Zimbabwes military has seized control of the country in what it is claiming is not a coup but a bloodless transition. President Robert Mugabe and his family were detained, but are safe, according to the twitter feed of the ruling zanu pf party. It also says the countrys former Vice President , sacked by president mugabe earlier this month, has been installed as the countrys interim leader. Jon donnisons been following events. An increase in military vehicles and soldiers on the outskirts of the capital yesterday raised alarm. Overnight, the military denied a coup was taking place. Insisting president mugabe was safe. We are only targeting criminals around him who are committing crimes that are causing social and economic suffering in the country in order to bring them tojustice. Suffering in the country in order to bring them to justice. But it came just days after the head of the armed forces had threatened to take action over the sacking of a senior politician. We must demand those behind the current treacherous shenanigans that when it comes to matters of protecting our revolution, the military will not hesitate to step the general was referring to president mugabes sacking of his number two, the Vice President. Once seen as number two, the Vice President. Once seen as a number two, the Vice President. Once seen as a loyal deputy, his dismissal was seen as a move by president mugabe to hand power to his wife, grace. But on the streets of harare, some welcomed the possible intervention by the military to block such a move. What is needed right now in zimbabwe is to re m ove is needed right now in zimbabwe is to remove this mugabe family in power. If there is this implosion, the implosion is good for the citizens of zimbabwe. At 93, Robert Mugabe is the worlds oldest head of state. In power since 1980. Mugabe is the worlds oldest head of state. In powersince 1980. His political state. In powersince1980. His political down fall has been predicted many times before and hes still standing. The question is for how long . Milton nkosis the bbcs correspondent in neighbouring south africa live from johannesburg. Whats going on . What we know is that the situation in zimbabwes capital harare is quiet, but tense. The streets are being manned by troops. There are armoured personnel carriers dotted around the city. The army has taken over zimbabwe broadcasting corporation. We know that president Robert Mugabe is safe, as far as the military is concerned and he is under arrest in harare. He hasnt issued any statement. Just a short while ago, here in south africa, president jacob zuma issued a statement calling for calm and said he hopes there will be no unconstitutional change of power because that would be counter to the regions stance and also the region of the the sta nce and also the region of the the stance of the african union. So, all countries around the Southern Africa Development Community is concerned about what is happening in zimbabwe. Imean, is about what is happening in zimbabwe. I mean, is the reading this that the army want the Vice President in charge because he seems to have been installed as the interim leader rather than Robert Mugabes wife, grace, who was pretty much next in line . Yes, indeed. That is exactly what triggered this set of events. The military decided that the sacking of the president , of the Vice President , by president Robert Mugabe last week was the straw that broke the camels back as far as they were concerned because they feel that the Vice President made a serious contribution in the liberation struggle against white minority rule and the idea that grace mugabe, who used to be a typist in president mugabes office, eventually marrying him, would then find herself succeeding president mugabe as president was totally unacceptable as far as they are concerned and thats why we are seeing what is happening today. Thank you very much, milton. Peter says, the fall of mugabe could be significant for zimbabwe as the fall of the berlin wall for germany. Democracy begins hopefully. Although the army taking over would not suggest thats democratic. Kevin on facebook, what next for the nation of zimbabwe . We will keep you up to dated, of course. Im not sure if im allowed to say this but probably australia you asked me im glad you put your neck on the line the army in zimbabwe say they have not illegally seized power, but it certainly looks like that. The military have taken over the state broadcaster, zbc, and made a statement, insisting that theyre not leading a coup but instead targeting criminals around president Robert Mugabe. We wish to assure the nation that his excellency the president of the republic of zimbabwe and commander in chief of the Zimbabwe Defence forces, comrade mugabe and his family are safe and sound and so so his family are safe and sound and so so security is guaranteed. We are only targeting the minerals around him who are committing crimes that are causing social and economic suffering to the country. As soon as we have accomplished our mission, we expect that the situation will return to normalcy. We wish to make it abundantly clear that this is not a military takeover of government. What the Zimbabwe Defence forces is doing is to pacify a degenerating political, social and Economic Situation in our country. Which, if not addressed, may result in violent conflict. At the moment its not clear whos leading the military action, and for exactly what purpose. The army insists that president Robert Mugabe, who is 93, and the leader of the governing zanu pf party, is safe and sound but exactly where he is is also unknown. Robert mugabe has presided over zimbabwe for the last three decades he has often used violence to maintain his grip on power. His critics are dismissed as traitors and sell outs. During his time as president , the county has experienced really severe economic problems at one point it was the worlds fastest shrinking economy with annual inflation of 231 million percent. Last week mr mugabe sacked his Vice President as part of a row over succession. It means Robert Mugabes wife grace mugabe had wanted to replace him as president. The rivalry between mrs mugabe and the Vice President has split zanu pf. We wish to assure the nation that his excellency the president of the republic of zimbabwe and commander in chief of the Zimbabwe Defence forces, unread mugabe and his family, are safe and sound and their security is guaranteed. We are only targeting criminals around him who are committing crimes that are causing social and economic suffering in the country. Thats the same clip that we played you earlier, as you realise to for the latest lets talk to wisdom mdzungairi is the editor of the Zimbabwe Independent newspaper, newsday, in the capital harare. Senator David Coltart is a zimbabwean opposition politician from the mdc party and former minister in the inclusive government. He joins us from bulawayo. And alex magaisa is a former adviser to zimba bwes Opposition Leader morgan tsvangirai, and is now a lecturer at the university of kent. Wisdom mdzungairi, good morning. Robert mugabe, a dictator, is not in charge of your country for the first time in decades what does it feel like on the streets of harare . As usual, as in any normal. But i think with military in all corners of the streets, especially in the city. But it is business as usual. It is only ensuring that people can go to work and do their business. It is only ensuring that people can go to work and do their businesslj am go to work and do their business. am struggling to hear you a little bit but i think youre telling me that it bit but i think youre telling me thatitis bit but i think youre telling me that it is business as usual even though the military are on the streets . Though the military are on the streets . Yes, very true. Where is Robert Mugabe . He is at his home. Why is he being detained there . He is not being detained. I think the military statement is very clear, when they say that they have made sure that there is maximum security to keep him safe, even tense atmosphere prevailing in our country. 0k, atmosphere prevailing in our country. Ok, but who is he being kept safe from, the people who are keeping him safe, the army . The army protects the president. And they make sure that they protect him. In a situation like ours today, there can be skirmishes and these guys are ensuring that there are no skirmishes. I am not clear who they are protecting him from, though . From. Who is the army protecting Robert Mugabe from, why do they need to keep him safe . Because the situation is tense in the country, and from the military statement, they express their disquiet over zanu pf on monday, they indicated that. Zanu pf on monday, they indicated that. What zanu pf on monday, they indicated that. What do you think about the Vice President being installed as leader effectively . This is speculation. There is no preparation at the moment that we are aware of. The Vice President is out of the country and in south africa. And i will not confirm that. Until and u nless will not confirm that. Until and unless this is confirmed, then i will be able to speak to that. 0k, let me speak to an opposition politician, david colta rt, let me speak to an opposition politician, David Coltart, a former minister in this government. Who is running your country . It clear that the military are now in control. They have not deposed Robert Mugabe, they say that they respect him as president. But its clear that theyve captured the broadcasting corporation, the zbc. As my colleague said there are soldiers on the streets, and we have credible reports of senior cabinet ministers having been arrested. So, the military are clearly in control. Why . | military are clearly in control. Why . I think it is the result of months, years, of economic degradation and quite frankly foolish economic policies, but what has brought this to a head, of course, has brought this to a head, of course , was has brought this to a head, of course, was the removal from power of the Vice President ten days ago. And his dismissal from zanu pf. And the clear intention stated by zanu pf and Robert Mugabe to promote his wife, and i think the final straw was the fear of people that the mugabes dynasty was in the process of being formed. Let me bring in alex magaisa, who used to work for the Opposition Leader how do you assess what is going on, give us the context . As my colleagues have indicated, there has been a succession race in zimbabwe, the race to succeed president mugabe, who as you know is now 93. The two me protagonists have been the first lady, mugabess wife, and the former Vice President emerson. And it is the sacking of the former Vice President that has brought things to a head, producing a reaction from the military. Is at least some of it has been closed to Vice President of Emmerson Mnangagwa and the response which we are seeing, which is quite a radical response, we saw a robust fitment on monday, and that was followed up by the ubiquitous presence of armed forces on the streets of harare. And, of course, the statement that we have this morning, with the army saying that they are targeting criminals. Effectively in my opinion they are saying it is not a coup, but it is a coup. Let me go back to david colta rt coup. Let me go back to David Coltart as a politician in is a bubbly what do you think about what is happening . As a human rights lawyer and someone who believes in out lawyer and someone who believes in our constitution and the ball of law, i need to say at the outset that we dont like the abuse of the law in this way, and the constitution is disregarded. So, we hope that whilst we have to deal with this practical situation, that the military will return to civilian government and to respecting the cost of jewish government and to respecting the cost ofjewish and as soon as possible. Having said that, of course, the fact remains respecting the constitution as soon as possible. Having said that, if the military are genuinely determined to stabilise the country, then we hope that it may yet be a good thing. Thank you very much all of you. Live pictures you can see from harare. As the editor of the independent newspaper newsday told us, it is business as usual running what has been going on in the last 24 what has been going on in the last 2a hours or so. Business as usual on the streets of the p people going out their Business People going about their business. Commuters are being urged to step in if they see Vulnerable People near railway tracks, as part of a campaign to prevent suicide. British transport police say engaging someone in conversation could make all the difference. Earlier we spoke tojonny benjamin who almost ten years ago sat on the edge of Waterloo Bridge about to jump off, and neil laybourn, who was walking by and engaged him in conversation. Anybody can approach, you dont have to worry about saying the wrong thing. It can be even something about the weather, anything to start up about the weather, anything to start upa about the weather, anything to start up a conversation, really. Something to get that person talking if youre concerned about somebody. And jonny benjamin, what do you think that could do, some of those simple type of questions . I think when someone is in that kind of suicidal frame of mind, theyre in their own bubble. I know i have been in my own bubble whenever i have been suicidal and it is about breaking that bubble and breaking that person out of that his own. Just someone coming along and asking those questions can really break that person from that intense cycle of thoughts and feelings. And then get that person engaged. And it might take a while. I know for us on the bridge it took me a while to finally talk to niall, because i didnt want him there, i was embarrassed, i just wanted didnt want him there, i was embarrassed, ijust wanted him to go away. But he stood his ground and he was very calm and patient, and i think that is really key, being patient. Because at first they might not want to talk, they might just wa nt not want to talk, they might just want you to go away. But if you remain calm and grounded and engaged, then eventually i think people will start to engage with you, but but it might take some time maybe. And neil, what did you say to johnny all those years ago when you saw him on Waterloo Bridge . What i said tojohnny saw him on Waterloo Bridge . What i said to johnny was saw him on Waterloo Bridge . What i said tojohnny was pretty much what ijust said ben said tojohnny was pretty much what i just said ben jefford said tojohnny was pretty much what ijust said benjefford member walking up and saying, hi, mate, are you ok . I said why are you sitting on the bridge . And when he told me that he was going to take his life, who i just that he was going to take his life, who ijust said, ok, can you tell me why . Just not being afraid of simple, open questions, which allow that person to just kind of communique. And another thing is, that person to just kind of communique. And anotherthing is, if youre going to approach somebody personally i would always tell them why, just to make them feel ok. The reason im approaching you is because i was concerned and i thought you were looking uneasy, or a little worried or distressed and i just wanted to check in and see that youre ok. So, just backing it up with why is well. On that day, thats exactly what happened. Neil laybourn and jonny benjamin. And you can find charities which offer support at bbc action line. Still to come on the programme we are going to meet the wrap and grind artists who say they are being targeted u nfa i rly who say they are being targeted unfairly for videos which are being accused of glamorising gun crime and knife crime. And one of the spector favourites Alexandra Burke and her partner Gorka Marquez will be here. Zimbabwes zimba bwes military has zimbabwes military has taken control of the country. An Army Spokesman said that president mugabe and his family were safe, but it was targeting people close to mr mugabe who caused social and economic suffering. The move came after mr mugabe sacked his deputy in favour of his wife. In the last hour, our reporter in the zimbabwean capital harare has given us this update. Well, the wages is quiter than usual, but some people have well, the situation is quieter than usual. Some people have decided to go to work or school, there isnt the fear for panic despite the fact that the military have taken over. In the Central Business district, there are signs of security, as well as military checkpoints by have been installed at the stream court and the reserve bank and there are checkpoints at the airport and some people were seen to be led away by gun pointand people were seen to be led away by gun point and the military are still in control of the capital. On the line is our africa editor fergal keane. Is this about a fight, about who succeeds Robert Mugabe . Thats what its about. And the military say this isnt a coup, but when you have a man in military uniform appearing on Television Late in the night declaring that the army is acting for the stability of the country, it sounds like, it looks like, it is a coup. Now, an important caveat. If the army is taking power i believe it is only for the short term this. Is about facilitating the exit of Robert Mugabe and bringing in somebody whom the military trust. They loathe grace mugabe and it is worth reminding people of what she represents to people who fought in the revolutionary war in the 60s and 70s that brought Robert Mugabe. They see her as somebody who goes around the world on lavish Shopping Trips buying diamond rings, becoming involved in public scandals in south africa where she attacked a model who was seen with her two sons and as somebody who has no revolutionary pedigree and somebody who does not belong in the zanu party. It was a matter of time before something gave and the decent by Robert Mugabe pushed undoubtedly by his wife and the faction around her to remove the Vice President , a man close to the military, that was the last straw. And if really is the end of Robert Mugabe as president of zimbabwe, a country he has run for decades with an iron fist, how significant is that . Ah, ithink an iron fist, how significant is that . Ah, i think weve lost him. 0k, that . Ah, i think weve lost him. Ok, apologies, we will try and get back to fergal keane later. We will continue to bring you reaction from zimbabwe. Next, as youtube comes under increasing pressure to remove music videos which may be seen to glamorise or encourage knife and gun crime, weve been to meet people who make rap and grime videos and say theyre worried that theyll be targeted unfairly. Pacman makes videos which get millions of views. He says theyre just portraying real life for many people and theres a difference between rapping about violence and condoning it. This report from andyjones does contain flashing images and footage which some people may find offensive. Ive been filming videos, ive seen. Ive seen people pull out some serious weapons. Ive seen guys get shot. I cant rap about anything positive, because like i havent seen more of that life yet. Rap, its imagery and its lyrics still has the power to divide. Critics say it glamorises violence and criminality. Fans say rap music is just that music, and a vital expression of the lives some young people lead. Weve spoken to those on both sides of the argument, and weve had rare access to the youngsters starring in videos and been on location with the underground film maker producing them. Hello. How you doing . Good to meet you. Good to see you. Thanks so much for having us in. Its cool. Come through. This is the studio. Pacman runs his own youtube music platform. In the past, hes worked with gangs, but he wants to show us another side to the scene hes involved in. Its all about them just broadcasting themselves, showing that, showing what theyve got to offer, what they bring to the table. Thats it. Everyone wants good exposure at a high standard, and thats what im offering to them. I know that when ive shot videos, all of them have said to me, pacman, thats why i like him, because you come anywhere. Other cameramen, they try to get through to them, either theyre scared or they wont come or theyre picking sides with someone that that persons not cool with, but. 0k. I dont care about all that stuff. Although pacman says he is careful not to get involved in rivalries, his video shoots are not drama free. Ive been filming videos, ive seen. Ive seen people pull out some serious weapons. Ive seen guys get shot. But the thing is, thats always like a personal, a personal sort of in house issue in the areas, its not anything to do with me. So im not particularly scared. But obviously to a normal civilian or a bystander, obviously is going to be a scary situation. Yeah, seeing someone get shot is a scary thing. Yeah, of course. So what happened when this guy. Someone was filming with you, and somebody came past and shot at them. What happened . Well, i will show you the video. Someone got shot, and the guys just carried on filming like nothing happened. But i think. I think obviously thats the environment, so thats what theyre used to. So a guy got shot, and they were just like, weve paid for your time, pacman, we want you to carry on . Yeah, yeah. Pretty much. There is concern from the london Mayors Office that some of the videos posted on youtube in particular can incite violence and build up tensions between rival gangs. Although they say they are not targeting general rap and music videos, they do want online outlets to do more to quickly remove videos which include extreme graphic content. Sophie linden is the deputy mayor for policing and crime. She didnt speak to us about pacmans channel, but did talk to us about their campaign to tackle Gang Violence online. Well, the met and ourselves are taking this very seriously in terms of what is being put up onto youtube. Gangs are using youtube to make very specific threats and intimidation and harassment, and sometimes incite violence. They are putting videos up that possibly to people who just look at it that dont know or arent a member of a gang, they may seem to be fairly innocuous, but the metropolitan police have experts judging these videos, and they believe and have asked youtube to take some of them down because they do insight violence and they are causing tensions. And these are tensions in communities and amongst gangs that are very, very able to take violent measures. Now, weve had conversations with youtube, and youtube are taking some action, but what we want them to do is to take much tougher action and much more quickly. The Mayors Office is clearly concerned, but pacman argues the videos he makes are just an expression of his clients lives rather than something more dangerous. What does your mum think of all of this . Shall we call her and ask her . Well, we can do, yeah phone rings. Hello . Im with the bbc. They want to ask you some questions. 0k. Are you free to talk . I wanted to ask, what do you think of the crazy life he leads . Oh, the guy has worked hard. I am ever so proud of him. It must be quite scary knowing that hes driving to some dangerous places sometimes . Of course, of course, im always scared. Im his mother, i have to be. Doesnt i . You know, hes alone out there, and you never know whats around the corner. Youre worried about him even if sometimes he isnt . He knows what he does. You know, he knows the people hes seeing. He feels quite safe, really. Hes always telling me theres nothing to worry about. And do you ever watch any of his videos . Of course i do. I comment on all of them. If i could tell the queen about pacman tv, i will, because hes done so much. Hes taken so many kids off the street, doing something that they love and they enjoyed doing, and im proud of him. Very much. Tell him. He listens to me in that video sometimes. When people arent clued up on the situation, when they dont know whats going on, thats when they make assumptions and form their own opinions. But its only when you show them that they realise that there is actually something constructive thats going on, and thats not a negative thing, that actually people trying to either show themselves in a good light or trying to make a business from what theyre doing. And thats whatj gangs doing now. Im going to show you this video. Hes got a track called choices, and its about choices growing up in brixton. Girl, did you know its me. I know that you know its me. Its us when you Say Something late and youre looking at me. All my exes, they say im drugs. Me and bandal, you know were thugs. Ive got a lot of music talking about the streets here. It is bad stuff, but its stuff that is in the public eye anyway. Its reality. People are taking drugs. People are using guns, people are using knives. This is stuff that we see on the news, stuff that we see in the south london press. This is stuff that we see anyway. And ive seen certain things thatjust by chance ive seen certain things. You could have been in the same position as me and seen it. So why not rap about it . What do you get out of putting the videos on youtube . I love doing music. At the same time, theres a lot of people blowing up from music. So its a way out at the same time. Because everyone, like, the people that i know thats bad theyve all wanted to turn good. Sometimes its too late. Sometimes you end up injail. And then you cant get out of the situation that youre in, and then you wish that you just went legit. Yeah, man, thats a wrap. But is there a danger that even by rapping about gangs and violence, people could get wrong message . In 2015, marcel addai was murdered after a chain of video exchanges between gangs in london erupted into violence. His four killers got a combined 97 years in prison. The met have told us that social media platforms are awash with videos that glamorise Gang Violence, and these have been on the increase since around september 2015. The met say that they only want videos removed if they raise the real risk of violence on the streets. And they continue to work with youtube and other platforms to get better results. They recognise that theres more work to be done. However, the met tell us that they flagged up 16 videos this year, and only seven have been taken down. Even though they might rap about it in their videos, none of the people we spoke to condone violence, and say they arent members of any gangs. Pacman says he knows where to draw the line when making videos. If you see anything thats too graphic, anything that seriously targets the individual or nudity or anything thats seriously controversial, youtube just take it down. If the police ask youtube to take a video down, do you think they should take the video down . I think it depends on the actual content. If it is within reason, then fair enough. But if somebodys simply rapping, and the contents not violent or doesnt attack anyone, its unfair for that person, for them to have the content removed. So, what are we doing tonight . Whats happening . Basically, were in beckton right now. About to film a guy called s rose, hes got a track called last night at the six. Were doing it because this area is in e6, in beckton. So, hes got a few luxury cars coming to show that its a transition in the music scene, going from filming on a block to filming in a nice sort of atmosphere. 0k. This sounds like its got a bit of money behind it. This isjust you messing about with a camera and him. Where does the money come from . Young entrepreneurs, man. The moneys coming from spotify, apple music, youtube adds. That sort of stuff. Oh, yeah, oh, yeah, thats the lambo and the range. Ooh s rose has his videos on pacmans channel. He raps about gang life and spending time in prison. My name was scumz, but obviously ive changed it to s rose now, because obviously i feel like ive risen from the person i was, so. S rose may have hired the lamborghini, but for him, rapping in front of it represents a new life. Im going to turn my negative into positive, you know what im saying . I cant rap about anything positive, because i havent seen more of that life yet. But im going to rap about what ive been through, and actually let it change other people, like that, dyou know what i mean . Thats the only way i can express myself. Throughout the shoot, neighbours come out to see whats going on. Some are happy and want to pose with the cars. Others want the group to move on. The people who live here, theyre worried. Do you think theyre going to complain about the noise . Noise level, yeah, its high. Very, very high. They have gone to their beds. They are working. I just saw, when they know whats going on, theyre kind of curious, or they might not want us to be around the area. But weve told them its going to be fine. Surprisingly, no police have come at all, so its been a good shoot. Is it a result when no police turn up . When police do turn up, it distresses the neighbours. They sort of think that theres an issue going on, when really its just a bunch of guys trying to make some good music. Its early evening, so its not a problem. I dont think, anyway. Ive lived here for ten years, and this is a great place to take pictures. You know, the guys are just trying to make a living. Theyre trying to make some positive attitudes to the music scene. So, the residents that have a problem with that, i dont think they will. Theyre trying to make their lives a little bit better. So, ten minutes of a little bit of high music, lets roll with it. Youtube told us its always been a place for creative expression, but it also has rules that are grossly enforced. They dont allow videos which promote violence or harass, bully or threaten, and to help them understand local context, they work closely with the met police who flag up any videos police, who flag up any videos which are genuine threat. Tallest trapstar is a regular face on pacmans youtube channel, and says the contents of his videos are based on his experiences. He denies glamorising violence, even though his videos feature guns. Im not using the guns to cause any violence. Im not shooting anyone in my video. Im not shooting the guns. Itsjust like a setting, itsjust a scene, just like in a story, theres different scenes, different settings, so thats just part of the settings related the tune. Im just trying to get somewhere which is far from the negative side, like all these things that people probably think of me, you get what im saying . Thats not what were here to do. Were here to help people, to bring everyone together, so i dont think these videos should be taken down, because itsjust peoples work, peoples energy. Some people are trying to tell a story. Some people are actually just acting it out, do you get what im saying, because its a form of entertainment, just like movies are, like when people make horror films, nobodys complaining about these, and these directors and creators of these movies, they get millions off this. Just because a guy from the area is making a tune about his upcoming and what hes been through, i dont think thats a bad thing. I think its just a step forward in life, like an people to understand that people actually need help, do you get what im saying . Somebody save me. Save me. With the met and the london Mayors Office claiming more needs to be done, pacman knows that its more than just his own fans who will be watching his videos closely. I dont really think music has that much of an influence on how people behave. I think because i actually ask these guys, why do they make music . Most of the guys told me they are just trying to express themselves, or trying to make some money and get out of their circumstances. And this is the best way how. After 10am, well hear from someone whos made videos for stormzy and those who want to see youtube remove more videos. The Supreme Court in london is due to announce any minute now its ruling on whether the Scottish Government can finally introduce minimum pricing for alcohol, to tackle binge drinking. The case was brought by the Scotch Whisky association, which argues that ministers at holyrood should increase tax on alcohol, rather than discriminate against products because they are cheap. Whatever the decision it will have implications for other part of the uk which are looking at doing the same. Well bring you the ruling as soon as it happens but how much could it affect the cost of alcohol . You can buy a cheap bottle of wine for £3. 75. But with the new minimum pricing, it would cost £11. 50 so thats an extra 75p. A mid range bottle of vodka would currently cost about 15 quid. But if this new pricing is introduced it would cost £18. 75 thats an additional £3. 75. You can pick up 20 bottles of beer for around ten quid in some shops, but under minimum pricing it would have to cost 13 pounds or more. And finally the big one. A two litre bottle of mid range cider. That would normally cost £3. 99, but in the future, it could have to sell for £7. 50 thats an extra £11. 51. The minimum price would be set at 50p per unit of alcohol. Weekends beep to dr peter wright, chair of the Scottish Health action on alcohol problems, sam bowman from a right leaning think tank and alys, whose mother was alcoholic throughout her childhood. Dr peter wright, why do you think the minimum pricing is a good idea . We for this ten yea rs pricing is a good idea . We for this ten years ago in the medical profession in scotland because we saw the impact that some of these very cheap tanks that youre talking about, the mid range cider, described as a 7. 5 volume, the same alcohol as half a litre of spirits, and we were hearing from our patients with liver disease, addiction, families being affected by the drinking. We did not hear the strings being discussed in policy circles and we really wanted to shine a light and what was happening on the front line with these very heavy drinkers and we wa nted these very heavy drinkers and we wanted to call for action. It was focused on the very cheapest drinks which do the most harm. We had good support from the Scottish Parliament. Is there a link between a minimum Price Per Unit of alcohol and pricing problem drinkers out of the market . There is certainly a link on influencing their behaviour. People are sensitive to price, and that includes the heaviest renters. And we believe that minimum price. But if you are dependent it doesnt matter what the price is . Not true. I have spent many years working with heavy drinkers and they are heavily price dependent. These heavy drinkers drinking increased as the prices fell and we have very good grounds to believe it will fall as the price rises. Sam bowman, there is the evidence . You can look at the evidence but i think the evidence is junk and some of the figures are bogus. One being that problem drinkers are notjust bogus. One being that problem drinkers are not just a sensitive to price but more sensitive than anybody else. That seems totally counterintuitive. If you look at the general evidence around problem drinking, it is actually that they are very insensitive to price. They are very insensitive to price. They are the least likely people to reduce drinking because of price. The people who will get hit by this are people like my dad, who drinks maybe one or two cans of lager in the evening, people like me, i quite enjoy those £4 bottles of wine because i am a cheapskate and i like to have a glass of wine in the evening, and people watching at home, who might be on tight incomes and might not have had a pay rise in the last couple of years and enjoy being able to have a glass of wine or being able to have a glass of wine ora being able to have a glass of wine or a couple of beers watching the match. And pricing is unjust because it targets the bottom of the market only. Rich people cause problems when they drink and they spend more money on alcohol and they actually drink more than people. But this policy does nothing to affect middle class and rich people. Policy does nothing to affect middleclass and rich people. Im going to bring in alys. Hello, thanks for talking to us. What role do you think cheap drink played in your mothers alcoholism . do you think cheap drink played in your mothers alcoholism . I think that having alcohol that was so accessible in a period of time when my mother wasnt working, she could still afford to go out and buy alcohol because it was so cheap. I understand what sam bowman was saying, if you have a drink problem, then you are still going to go and buy it. However i think it is going to deter you, youre going to think twice about the fact that the drink is more expensive. Especially for maybe people who are more, like people who are on the streets, for example. Who have got alcohol problems. Its going to be more difficult and it might make people wa nt difficult and it might make people want to get help more. Is that fair, dr peter wright . Absolutely. I think what we are talking about is making the slippery slope a bit less slippery and a bit less steep. For the latter part of my career i worked with many doctors with alcohol problems, and they drink the cheap stuff. Once they got into heavy drinking they gradually went down the same way as everyone else. So the notion that well off people dont drink cheap alcohol is just not correct. Well off people also drink expensive alcohol. Poor people only drink cheap alcohol, that is the point. What is impossible for me to a cce pt the point. What is impossible for me to accept is that people in glasgow, blackpool, middlesbrough, rhondda valley, but cheap alcohol is doing these communities a favour. Alcohol can take people at the age of 55, so these communities are losing many people in the middle of their working lives. Families are losing individuals. The death rate went up considerably in the early part of the century on the back of cheap supermarket alcohol and i cannot see that you can argue that these cheap drinks have been doing these deprived parts of our country a favour. We are still waiting for the ruling. We are expecting it any moment. As soon as it happens and as soon as moment. As soon as it happens and as soon as it is handed down in the Supreme Court, we will bring that to you live. Thank you very much for being on the programme. Lets have a look at the weather, with carol. Good morning. We really have mixed fortu nes good morning. We really have mixed fortunes in the weather this morning. Some of us have drizzle whilst others will be starting off ona whilst others will be starting off on a sunny whilst others will be starting off on a sunny note. The cloud across wales, South West England and Northern Ireland will continue to break and we will have sunny spells developing in the afternoon. We will hang on the cloud across the midlands and the south east. Later in the day, a new band of rain will come across scotland accompanied by gusty winds. And that will be sinking southwards across all of scotla nd sinking southwards across all of scotland and Northern Ireland through the course of the night, with colder conditions following on behind. Tomorrow will be brightening up behind. Tomorrow will be brightening up and the weather front will continue to trundle down towards the south east. Ahead of it weve got sunshine in the south, still in milder conditions and behind it, cooler. Some of the showers in the north and west of scotland will be wintry in nature. Hello, its wednesday, its10am, im victoria derbyshire. Our top story this morning the army in zimbabwe has seized control of the country but denies it has staged a coup. President Robert Mugabe, the man who has ruled the country with an iron fist for decades, has been detained. As soon as we have accomplished our mission, we expect that the situation will return to normal assy. We wish to make it abundantly clear that this is not a military ta keover of clear that this is not a military takeover of government. We will bring you all latest on the story in the next few minutes. Well be taking a look at the films being shown in schools warning about the dangers of Child Sexual Exploitation. They are so graphic and realistic that some say theyre traumatising children. One day i woke up naked in a strange town. No money. No mobile. Nothing. Life became a blur. Well speak to one parent who said her daughter was left traumatised after she showed her one of the films. And in a few moments we are joined by strictly star Alexandra Burke and her dance partner Gorka Marquez. If you have got a question for them do get in touch. Our top story today is the breaking news from zimbabwe, where the military has seized control of the country in what it is claiming is not a coup, but a bloodless transition. Reports say zimba bwes president Robert Mugabe and his family have been detained. After taking over state tv, an Army Spokesman said president mugabe and his family were safe, but that it was targeting people close to him who had caused social and economic suffering. The move came after president mugabe sacked his deputy a rival to his wife grace in the struggle to be the countrys next leader. Our correspondent milton nkosi is in neighbouring south africa. So this is a battle to to see who ta kes so this is a battle to to see who takes over from president mugabe, the worlds oldest state leader . Yes, indeed. The 93 year old president was clearing the way for his wife, grace to take over as Vice President and in the process he sacked a liberation struggle hero who has his deputy and that is what has triggered the events we have seen has triggered the events we have seen coming from the military. They felt that it was unacceptable that grace mugabe, who was once a typist in Robert Mugabes. Problem with sound u nfortu nately, problem with sound unfortunately, the, as you can see, the line has frozen. I do apologise. We will try and get back to milton as soon as we can. We we will try and get back to milton as soon as we can. We will keep you updated. In fact, we can go back to milton. I apologise, updated. In fact, we can go back to milton. Iapologise, you updated. In fact, we can go back to milton. I apologise, you were half way through the answer. This is a battle for who succeeds Robert Mugabe . Yes, indeed, what i was saying victoria there, the military found it unacceptable that grace mugabe, who was once a typist in Robert Mugabes office was likely to become head of state, pushing away a liberation struggle hero and thats what triggered the events that weve been seeing in the last few hours. What does grace mugry represent . What does grace mugry represent . What the army is concerned about is the people who fought against white minority rule in the liberation struggle. They want those people to keep going because they feel that this struggle has not yet ended. Remember, there were land invasions in zimbabwea remember, there were land invasions in zimbabwe a few years ago because they felt that White Communities still owned too much of the land in comparison to local indigenous communities. So, they want the liberation struggle momentum to keep going and they felt that grace mugabe who does not have liberation struggle credentials could not be the head of state. Thank you very much, milton, thank you. More on zimbabwe through the programme. In the meantime, heres annita in the bbc newsroom with the rest of todays news. The uks highest court is due to give its verdict shortly on whether scotland can finally enforce its policy of minimum pricing for alcohol. Legislation was approved by the Scottish Parliament five years ago, but it has been tied up in Court Challenges amid claims it breaches european law. The family of the british explorer, benedict allen, say hes gone missing during an expedition to papua new guinea. His wife says he missed his flight home and hasnt been heard from in three weeks. Mr allen, who has made numerous documentaries for the bbc, had been trying to track down an indigenous tribe for a new programme. Thats a summary of the latest bbc news more at 10. 30am. Breaking news to do with the minimum pricing of alcohol. And the Supreme Court which as you know is the uks highest court has rejected a challenge against plans to use minimum pricing for alcohol to use minimum pricing for alcohol to improve Public Health in scotland which means the Scottish Government have won. They will be introducing a minimum pricing for alcohol. It was the Scotch Whisky association that we re the Scotch Whisky association that were challenging it. That has been thrown out by the highest court in the land. In a unanimousjudgment. Seven supreme justices said the holyrood legislation did not breach european law and they ruled that the measure was a proportionate means of achieving a legitimate aim. It is likely to be introduced as quickly as possible. The legal battle is now over. Heres some sport now with will. Martin oneill will speak to the irish Football Association about his future. The republic were thrashed by denmark last night. It started really well. Sha is shane duffy putting the irish one up, but poor defending let the danes back in. Look at that, 4 1, Christian Eriksson ended up with a hat trick. Thats denmark celebrating their place at russia 2018. A young england side played out a nil nil draw this time against brazil at wembley. There were few chances, but that one late on came close to marking his debut with a goal near the end. A youthful welsh side impressed in their friendly with panama. Tom laurence putting the welsh ahead in cardiff, but in the 94th minute, the visitors who, unlike wales, are going to the world cup, equaliser through hooper. The countdown is on to the first ashes test. Eight days to go until that first game and chris woakes took six wickets on the first day of englands warm up match. A couple of wickets for craig overton. Picking up wickets today is always nice. Ifelt like i was better last week than i was the previous week in perth. The adelaide game was a pink ball so thats different. I felt like today it came out pretty nicely. It is good for me. It gives mea nicely. It is good for me. It gives me a little bit of confidence. I felt in decent rhythm. Yeah, i could ta ke felt in decent rhythm. Yeah, i could take a bit of confidence from that. It is the second innings. Continue to work on that and be ready for next week. Thats all for now, victoria, i will have the headlines for you the 10. 30am. Around ten million of us watch strictly come dancing each week and this years series hasnt disappointed so far at all. Weve had shock exits, amazing dances and accusations of over and under marking from judges. Alexandra burke and her partner gorka are amongst the favourites to win this year and im delighted to say theyre with us here this morning. Far away from the cold night air with one enormous chair oh, wouldnt it be lovely you make me feel. Like a natural woman are you all right . I know. I wish my mum was here. I know, baby. I know. And here they are alexandra and gorka. How are you . Good to see you too. How are you . Good to see you too. How are you . Nice to meet you. Right, take a seat. Ok. Well done so far. Thank you. Incredible. Every week incredible. Argentine tango, skill, passion, how difficult is it to learn Something Like that . Its hard. Ifound to learn Something Like that . Its hard. I found it to learn Something Like that . Its hard. Ifound it quite difficult. I loved it. I absolutely enjoyed every single moment of learning the routine, but it is, its a hard one. They are all quite challenging, arent they . Every dance is different, but i think yesterday talking between us, the argentine tango it was the hardest up until now because we had a section of the stairs which it was very hard to do it. Why do you put a hard section in there . This is the thing. To make it different. Every week is better and better so i have to come up with better so i have to come up with Better Things to make her improve. Yeah, absolutely. It has paid off, youre going to blackpool what can we expect, gorka . Fast footwork. Faster steps. Running around. A lot of fun. 0k. Faster steps. Running around. A lot of fun. Ok. We are doing the quickstep and im loving the quickstep and im loving the quickstep because i have too much energy most of the time. So the fact that we get to run around the stage andjump up and that we get to run around the stage and jump up and down, im in my element. How many hours a day are you rehearsing . Ten hours a day, today we have only got seven. Thats ourfault. Today we have only got seven. Thats our fault. Sorry. Not at all because we are doing another show later, but we are doing another show later, but we try our best to get as much time as possible. We are committed to making sure we can be the best team that we can. Really. I am having a lot of fun. Really eventful. We say that every year, there is always stuff going going on. There is a new head judge, shirley. Stuff going going on. There is a new headjudge, shirley. Lots of stuff going going on. There is a new head judge, shirley. Lots of people adore her. She is warm. Shes got some really good technical advice. Some people said though she has been under marking some of the co ntesta nts, under marking some of the contestants, what do you say . always say to alex, the judges are four different persons with different opinions. All of them have knowledge and they know about dancing and they know what they are talking about, but it isjust opinions, you can take it positively or take it negative. Its up to you, but it isjust for opinions. or take it negative. Its up to you, but it isjust for opinions. I think constructive criticism, i crave for it, im always asking for more ways that i can prove and thats me as a perfectionist. Gorka we are the same starsign, perfectionist. Gorka we are the same star sign, but for me, when they give a mark or they give, whether it is high or low, its great when its high, but if its low, you have to ask them what the reason is and try your best to improve on that and i think im just happy getting whatever we get really and i want to enjoy the experience and enjoy the dance and remember what were doing. My dance and remember what were doing. My concern is remembering but saving mollie, not aston. A shocker. I was very sad because i love aston. We used to train together every day. But they have their own reasons and i have to judge on that dance and if mollie was better than aston. They are both amazing people and everyone knows my history with aston. I have known him for nearly ten years now. So it was very, very sad to see him go, but at the same time, mollie danced beautifully well and they were amazing and for them it was a hard decision, very hard. X factor has x factor had its day . dont think so, i went in for it when i was 16 and then again when i was 19th and ally won the show. It is the reason i had my career. So for me, it gives so many people a chance in music to be creative. And i say that it is a fantastic show. But why do you think strictly beats it every week . I have no idea i think it is because may be strictly isafamily think it is because may be strictly is a family show which can involve all the different ages. But x factor isafamily all the different ages. But x factor is a family show yeah, i think it is. But sometimes when using, if you dont like the style of the music adulthood what it. Dance, everybody likes to dance, do you know what i mean . Gorka, can i ask you to set the record straight on this rumour of romance with gemma . There is nothing, friends. Its like ifi of romance with gemma . There is nothing, friends. Its like if i ask alexandra to go for breakfast or a coffee, nothing else. And can i ask you to set the record straight about weather you are cross about those rumours . The thing is, i wasnt cross about the rumours, because rumours are rumours. And in this industry it is what it is. But i think what is more upsetting and hurtful is reading how so many things can be so negative, and im such a positive person. And i love life and regardless of whatever i go through in life, i try to have the best outlook on life, because thats what keeps me going, really. So, to read negative things about diva and all that stuff, its upsetting to read. But then i have to go, hopefully people wont believe everything they read. Youre not a diva . not at all you have dealt with adversity incredibly over the last few months. Thank you. And we can see from watching you on the programme, you wear your heart on your sleeve. We saw the clip where your sleeve. We saw the clip where you were crying about your mum how are you . Im ok. Taking each day, andi are you . Im ok. Taking each day, and i dont sake each day at a time, i say each hour at a time, to be honest. But i have a Wonderful Foundation in the sense of my family and friends of boyfriend and of course gorka. And i am surrounded by amazing, loving people who care. And i care about them, and thats what gets me through the day. If i need a moment, gorka can see it in my eyes. Yesterday he was like, are you all right . I was going through, mentally, you know. But gorka is a lwa ys mentally, you know. But gorka is always good for me, and were having the best time, and thats keeping me happy. You do have to be sensitive about that with your celebrity dance partner pata, dont you . Of course. And each week we get to know each other better and better. So i know what she needs and she knows when i need anything. It is just communicating with each other. Sometimes it is not only dance. Maybe sometimes we have an hour breakjust to maybe sometimes we have an hour break just to talk to maybe sometimes we have an hour breakjust to talk to each other. And a biscuit i want to ask you about the accusations of racism amongst the voting public, so about viewers, with black dancers getting knocked out in this series and in previous series very early on and some people on twitter saying, it is because the Great British public is racist. What do you say as a black woman about that . I think that is really harsh to be honest with you. I dont think that is true at all and those kind of keys asians against amazing shows like this i think is wrong. For a black person who is in the industry and. For me, ive had a wonderful nine years of being in this industry, and hoping to achieve more with hard work and determination. And i dont think it comes down to colour, i dont see colour when i see music or tv shows. I think that is so important not to see that. At the end of the day we might be different colours but we are all the same, was in all human. And humans have the same emotions and i think it is wrong to project that out there to the universe. In your time in the industry have you experienced racism . Not at all. So i cant speak from a place like that. Because ive experienced such positivity and love and im very lucky to receive that. Have you experienced Sexual Harassment . No. There have been so many edges asians in music and film and politics . Yeah, i was very sad to hear about that, especially for women and sometimes it could be men. But no, ive never experienced that thankfully. Gorka have you experienced it . No. 0k. Thankfully. Gorka have you experienced it . No. Ok. You have been a performer most of your life, i think been a performer most of your life, ithinki been a performer most of your life, i think i was reading you started doing stuff when you were five . Yeah, i started singing when i was five. There are other people on the show who have had performing backgrounds, dancing backgrounds what do you say to those who say it is kind of not fair because youre used to being on the stage . Being on the stage and singing is very different to what i do now. U nfortu nately i different to what i do now. Unfortunately i dont have my comfort kit which is my microphone when im doing my own show, if i make a mistake which often i do, i canjust stop make a mistake which often i do, i can just stop routine and what from side to side and sing in this show, of course, its not the same, im com pletely of course, its not the same, im completely out of my comfort zone. But what gets me through it is really having the support of gorka and the support of the show all round, trying to give me encouragement. All of us, notjust me, every contestant gets that encouragement and love and support. Ijust think im not encouragement and love and support. I just think im not trained. Encouragement and love and support. Ijust think im not trained. People have said that apparently i am but im not. Im just enjoying what im doing, loving the experience and the journey and ive got a great teacher gorka, exdancers have said that someone like darren gough or Mark Ramprakash could not win strictly now because so many people do have some kind of dancing background, like debbie mcgee, trained at the Royal Ballet School . I think it doesnt matter where you come from, because it is a completely different style. If a foot ball completely different style. If a football player, if you ask him to play basketball, he is a sportsman, he can play football but he wont be able to play basketball. Because he doesnt have the knowledge. She knows how to sing, how to perform, another one like debbie mcgee has ballet knowledge from before, but it is not ballroom. I am a ballroom dancer, if you ask me to do a ballet dancer, if you ask me to do a ballet dancer, i will not be able to do it because i have never been trained as a ballet dancer, it is different. Quick couple of questions. From twitter. This person wants to know do twitter. This person wants to know do you choose your own music . Twitter. And it is to do with the former cabinet secretary carl sargent from the what a sunday. His family have released a statement saying that they have been overwhelmed by the support they have received following his death. He was found dead at his home four days after claims of inappropriate behaviour. On the part of the family, carl sargeants sun has said, this has been the hardest week of our lives. It is difficult to imagine how we would have coped without the support of the community and dadsfriends from across wales. We have had so many messages of support from people who had met dad once or those who had never met him at all but knew from others what a kind, caring and genuine man he was. Knowing how much doubt was loved has helped us bear the pain. That is a statement from the family of carl sargeant. The Supreme Court has ruled this morning that the Scottish Government can proceed with its plan to impose minimum pricing on alcoholic tanks. It will have an impact on other plans to bring in minimum pricing right across the uk. We can speak to our correspondent now. So, this battle is over, the scottish governorate have won what does it mean . Well, i think it means that the Scottish Government is now free to bring in that policy which it has been arguing for for many yea rs, really for it has been arguing for for many years, really for seven or eight yea rs years, really for seven or eight years when they first put the first proposal forward. The legislation came through in 2012 and now, finally after this five year legal battle with the Scotch Whisky association, all the legal hurdles have been overcome and they can bring this policy into practice. How soon bring this policy into practice. How soon will it be . We do not know that exactly that. What the Health Minister in scotland has said is that there will be a consultation, in particular on the fact that the minimum Price Per Unit on alcohol is set at the moment at 50p per unit. That was what they set it at in 2012. They may decide that is no longer appropriate because of factors like inflation, but as soon is they can bring it in they will and they will see it as a major victory. It was one of the key Health Policies which the Scottish Government has had over the last decade or so and they have finally achieved it, against this at all with big multinational Drugs Companies and the Scotch Whisky association. So i think nicola sturgeon, the first minister, will be delighted that one of her flagship policies is actually going to come into force. Thank you. Films being shown in schools which warn about the dangers of Child Sexual Exploitation are being criticised for being so graphc and realistic that theyre traumatising children. The films shown in secondary schools are meant to serve as a hard hitting warnings about the dangers of being groomed and exploited. This is one such film called my dangerous loverboy, about a young girl who falls into the trap of a sexually exploitive relationship, heres a trailer for it which is in itself fairly graphic. Dance music plays. Love. Sex. Betrayal. Friendship. Trust. My dangerous lover boy is a hard hitting film that will raise awareness of the internal trafficking of vulnerable young girls like me into the sex trade. He was exciting, gave me presents, alcohol, and had a sick car. Wed been out one night drinking and having a good time when he asked me to be. Nice to his friend. I thought he loved me. Then one day i woke up naked in a strange town. No money, no mobile, nothing. Life became a blur. I couldnt see how the nightmare would ever end. Joining us now. Cath knibbs has taught in schools on Child Sexual Exploitation and is a cyber trauma psychotherapist. She has concerns about some films shown in schools. Jon brown is the head of development and impact at the nspcc and believes such films are important resources to teachers when covering Child Sexual Exploitation. Were also joined by clairejones, who showed one of these films to her 11 year old daughter, who then felt traumatised afterwards. Starting with you, clairejones, widely due show your 11 year old one of these films . I think we are all increasingly aware of the dangers of child sex exploitation. And i cant actually remember where i got the advice from, but i knew that this resource had been produced, in my case it had been produced by leicestershi re case it had been produced by leicestershire police. So i knew it was a legitimate resource and i knew it was targeted at her age group. And i thought it was a good way of starting the conversation, a conversation that we would need to have about this topic. So i showed her the film and she was very hurt by it and immediately turned around and asked me why i had shown her such a dreadful thing. Sabina you immediately that i had made a mistake in my parenting. Cath knibbs, you have concerns about these films, but as claire jones said, there are reputable organisations who back them, like leicestershi re organisations who back them, like leicestershire police, for example. And the and a species eat we know that there is a large proportion of children in classrooms who are the victims of sexual explication and also victims either historic or current of child sexual abuse. And also there are children in classrooms who will be victims of other kinds of trauma. And one of theissues other kinds of trauma. And one of the issues with these kinds of videos is that the way the brain processes images is, it goes straight through to what is known is the unconscious part of the brain. And i have been in a classroom when the company i was working for showed one of these films and i have witnessed three or four children have trauma response is partly to my dangerous loverboy. And it is about the context and how we actually show these films. So, it is not the films themselves, it is the way theyre being delivered, it is the talking from the adults around it . No. It is both. It is the actual content. From the adults around it . No. It is both. It is the actual contentm is the content, jon brown, it is too much . It can be. Our experience at the nspcc is that film and drama can play a really Important Role in working with young people, dealing with Sexual Exploitation and the impact of it and also helping to prevent it and helping to advise about warning signs. What sort of age groups, though . It needs to be age appropriate. Showing a film like my age appropriate. Showing a film like my dangerous loverboy to Primary School children could well be inappropriate. It is not being shown to Primary School children, it is going into secondary schools, but despite that cath knibbs still thinks it is too much. It needs to be across a range of other interventions. Thats what we do with our respect programme which is being evaluated, evidence is really important and we need more evidence to engage the effectiveness of the work thats being under taken and we need to engage the effectiveness more. The use of film appropriatelyjudged effectiveness more. The use of film appropriately judged and appropriately judged and appropriately assessed with young people can be used to positive effect. Kath, is there an age group where you would show the films . In secondary schools . In short, and the way i have had to work with clients in my therapy, no. I think what we need to do is produce films that talk about perpetrators behaviours. I think we have got it the wrong way around. What we are trying to do is. Problem with sound the line has gone funny. Im really sorry, kath, but we understand your message and clare, thank you very much for coming on the programme as well. Thank you and john brown, we appreciate your time. Thank you. John brown from the nspcc. Still to come the rap and grime artists who say theyre worried theyre being targeted unfairly for videos which are accused of glamorising gun and knife crime. The us secretary of state, Rex Tillerson, is in myanmar for talks with aung sang suu kyi and the head of the armed forces. Our top story today is the breaking news from zimbabwe, where the military has seized control of the country in what it is claiming is not a coup but a bloodless transition. Reports say zimba bwes president Robert Mugabe and his family have been detained. After taking over state tv, an Army Spokesman said president mugabe and his family were safe, but that it was targeting people close to him who had caused social and economic suffering. The move came after president mugabe sacked his deputy, a rival to his wife grace in the struggle to be the countrys next leader. The foreign secretary has been speaking about the situation there. Well, we are monitoring the situation very closely as you can imagine and our ambassador has been in touch to say if uk nationals are worried, they should get in touch with our embassy. At the moment it is very fluid and it is hard to say exactly how this will turn out. I think the most important point to make is that everybody wants to see a stable and successful zimbabwe and i think we are really appealing for everybody to refrain from violence. Thats the crucial thing. Bbc africas Nick Ericsson has been monitoring events here, and hes with me now. Could this be be the end of president Robert Mugabe of zimbabwe . Victoria, it is a very difficult question to answer. As with much that has happened in zimbabwe particularly over the last 15 years, it is very, very unpredictable, the consensus seems to be that what happened last night and in the early hours of this morning was unexpected. Robert mugabe is in a very difficult position. It has come down to him versus the military. Him versus the veterans of the struggle for liberation in zimbabwe which is a struggle which i suppose key to the fabric of zimbabwean identity. The war veterans, those who fought for liberation in zimbabwe against colonial rule say that they have been pushed out of government. They have been purged in favour of Robert Mugabes wife and by extension, the youth wing of the party and they feel like they are not being given a say in events and you remember 15 yea rs war vete ra ns say in events and you remember 15 years war veterans raised a similar situation with Robert Mugabe about not being paid and what resulted was violent land invasions so i think we are ata violent land invasions so i think we are at a crisis point and whether or not it is the end of robert mg bee, it is certainly the end of Robert Mugabe we knew last week. We maybe going into a few fewer where Robert Mugabe is president in name only and certainly not in power and certainly with the power of his wife seriously severely curtailed. And in the meantime it would appear that the man Robert Mugabe sacked recently, the Vice President , who was a significant figure in the liberation, is, has been installed by the military . Well, we are not sure. Again, it is hard to say. Sorry to keep coming back to that. Thats my default position with zimbabwe. It is fine. He was in south africa in exile after he was sacked. There are a number of suggestions on social media that he is back in zimbabwe now. There are strong suggestions that the military support him and back him. When we talk about war veterans, he certainly was one. He was fighting in zimba bwes certainly was one. He was fighting in zimbabwes bush. He was side by side with Robert Mugabe for many, many years he was one of his closest allies which is why the shock of what happened last week continued to reverberate. So, in all likelihood, he is back in zimbabwe and in all likelihood he is about to become a lot more empowered than he has been of late. Cheers, nick, thank you very much. Any more developments on that story, we will bring to you. In the last half hour, the uks Supreme Court has given the go ahead for the Scottish Government to implement minimum pricing for alcohol by rejecting a legal challenge to the policy. Legislation was approved by the Scottish Parliament five years ago. Scottish government ministers say that pricing alcohol at a 50 pence per unit minimum will help tackle what they call scotlands unhealthy relationship with drink. Unemployment fell by 59,000 between july and september to 1. 42 million, official figures show. The jobless rate now stands at 4. 3 but the number of people classed as economically inactive those not in work and not seeking a job rose by the most in nearly eight years. The metropolitan police and the london Mayors Office say more needs to be done to take down violent music videos from youtube, and that lives could depend on the rapid removal of those showing gangs making threats and inciting violence. But those making content argue that the violence, drugs and gang life which feature are just a reflection of the lives they lead and shouldnt be removed. In rare and exclusive access, andyjones has been speaking to some of the rappers and directors involved in the scene to get their take. His film contains flashing images and footage which some people may find offensive. Ive been filming videos, ive seen. Ive seen people pull out some serious weapons. Ive seen guys get shot. Pacman runs his own youtube music platform. In the past, hes worked with gangs, but he wants to show us another side to his work. Its all about them just broadcasting themselves, showing that, showing what theyve got to offer, what they bring to the table. Everyone wants good exposure at a high standard, and thats what im offering to them. I know that when ive shot videos, all of them have said to me, pacman, thats why i like him, because you come anywhere. Other cameramen, they try to get through to them, either theyre scared or they wont come or theyre picking sides with someone that that persons not cool with, but i dont care about all that stuff. There is concern from the london Mayors Office that some videos posted on youtube in particular can incite violence and build up tensions between gangs. Sophie linden is the deputy mayor for policing and crime. She didnt speak to us about pacmans channel, but did talk to us about their campaign to tackle Gang Violence online. These are tensions in communities and amongst gangs that are very, very able to take violent measures. Gangs are using youtube to make threats and intimidation and harassment and sometimes incite violence. Theyre putting videos up and may seem to be fairly innocuous, but the metropolitan police have experts and they believe and have asked youtube to take some of them down because they do insight violence. Just because a guy from the area is making a tune about his upcoming and what hes been through, i dont think thats a bad thing. Tallest trapstar is a regular face on pacmans youtube channel, and says the contents of his videos are based on his experiences. He denies glamorising violence, even though his videos featured guns. Im not using the guns to cause any violence. Im not shooting anyone in my video. Im not shooting the guns, that isjust part of the setting is related to the tune, so i dont think these videos should be taken down, because itsjust peoples work, peoples energy. Some people are trying to tell a story. Some people are actuallyjust acting it out, do you know what im saying . Because its a form of entertainment. There is no suggestion the people we spoke to condone violence or are involved in gangs, but online rap, its imagery and its lyrics still has the power to divide. Critics say it glamorises violence and criminality. Fans say music videos are just that, music, and a vital artistic expression of the lives some young people lead. I dont know really think music has that much of an influence on how people behave. I think because i actually ask these guys, why do they make music . Most of the guys told me they are just trying to express themselves, or trying to make some money and get out of their circumstances. And this is the best way how. The latest from zimbabwe. According toa the latest from zimbabwe. According to a french news agency, the president of south africa, jacob zuma has had a conversation with president Robert Mugabe of zimbabwe. And president zuma says that mr mugabe is under house arrest in zimbabwe. This is a statementjust in. President zuma goes on to say that the zimbabwean military appear to have taken control of the country. President zuma has spoken to president zuma has spoken to president mugabe and jacob zuma says that president mugabe is under house arrest, the military say they are detaining president mugabe for his own safety. Clearly, much more to come on that throughout the day here on bbc news. Lets speak now tojermaine lawlor, is a former gang member and rapper. Hes now a youth worker. Sarah castro, who is the director of development and external affairs, safer london which is a charity working to prevent and address Gang Violence. Shan brown, who as well as making music videos for up and coming artists, has worked on videos featuring stormzy, krept and konan. And to madders tiff who is a grime artist. Sarah whats wrong with the content . They are violent and promoting violence and they are promoting violence and they are promoting violence on the street and encouraging Gang Violence in london. 0k. Is encouraging Gang Violence in london. Ok. Is that true . Encouraging Gang Violence in london. 0k. Is that true . I believe in some cases it maybe true, but in some ways i believe that artists are just expressing themselves the same way a director can write a film and it can be on netflix. I dont understand where if it has got a concept and fits in and they have changed their life and it is not promoting violence, i believe it shouldnt be getting taken down because the artists put mime and money. Do you think some of them, if you are being honest, do they promote violence . This is real life, this is what people are going through . Does that mean it is promoting violence . dont think it is, i dont think enough people know what is going on in the world. How is it promoting violence, in your view, in the world. How is it promoting violence, in yourview, sarah castro . In some case they are calling out gangs in other areas and in some cases they actually named people that they want to have violence with and those are the videos that we have real concerns about that we want to have removed. You used to be a rapper, and now you area you used to be a rapper, and now you are a youth worker, jermaine lawlor, what do you think about them but . Some of them are quite violent but it isa some of them are quite violent but it is a former self exposure in. These young men and are coming from real life, these are real life stories. Also we have to understand that a lot of these rappers dont deliver what they talk about, it is entertainment. Taking the video down is only tackling it at the surface. What about the radio stations that remote this music, what about the re cord remote this music, what about the record labels that make millions and millions out of this music . What about the example sarah castro gave where some gangs are actually named, and she says it is leading to violence on the streets . and she says it is leading to violence on the streets . I believe they should be getting help instead of taking the music down, not giving them an expert nation or not doing anything. The same people who are targeting them to take them down should approach these people and give them the help they need, because they are trying to change their lives and do something positive with the music. their lives and do something positive with the music. I feel we are focusing too much on the negative. Just sitting here talking about it, were giving them thousands of views of. We need to talk about the positive role models in the music industry, theres a lot of us and we want to inspire. Instead of focusing on these and giving them more views, why dont we just ignore it, because it is ridiculous, some of them . Would you back youtube taking some of them down . I would say, you know, within reason. If there was a video that we nt reason. If there was a video that went viral of somebody being abused or attacked, 100 . But music, you dont know, you cant make a judgmentjust dont know, you cant make a judgment just from watching a video because of the video content. How about we go into these communities and talk to the people and find out what the real reason is. Rather than just removing them, because this is a way that people express themselves. My sun is 11 years old and sometimes he watches these little videos and we just kind of laugh at them. I have taught him right and wrong, i am a good parent, and it starts at home. If your child goes watches a music video and then wants to commit an offence, i blame the parents. What if you are a pa rent the parents. What if you are a parent who doesnt really care about your kid . That is where we need to do more as a theres a lot of people people struggling, people are poor out there and it starts from the government i would say. You can be poor and be a brilliant parent. Of course you can but people are struggling and turning to a life of crime just to put food on the table. We see our mums and dads struggling and working three or fourjobs. It is unfortunate that people go down the gangs route. A lot of the time i reckon people are a group of friends. We need to stop labelling groups of children as gangs, because who wants that . You dont ask to be born and then already youve been labelled. It is unfair. Also i think these young men need an outlet, they need a way of expressing the trauma and pain and day to day experiences of that lifestyle, and music is a platform to express yourself and have that outlet. The problem i have is that young people that watch these videos and cannot differentiate between fiction and nonfiction so they differentiate between fiction and nonfictic narrative, they believe in scarface narrative, they believe in it. Again, what has been discussed, we are tackling it at the surface by taking it down what about finding these communities and working with these communities and working with these young individuals . We dont know their story. Has anyone want to ta ke know their story. Has anyone want to take the time out and get to know their story and help them . Because i do. There are a lot of us in the industry, lets focus more on the so, is the International Community doing enough . Tun khin is from the Rohingya Muslim ethnic minority and has family and friends currently fleeing the country. Stephen twigg mp the labour chair of pa rliaments International Development committee, which has Just Launched an investigation into the crisis. And matthew smith, from the human rights organisation, fortify rights, whos just left coxs bazar, where hundreds of thousands of Rohingya Refugees are living. Thank you very much for coming on the programme. Tun khin, tell us about the situation with your family and friends first of all . What we are hearing right now is that the rohingya people are fleeing. The rakhine co operation with the birdies military and Security Forces raiding rohingya houses and burning them every day. Already hundreds of villages already since august. And there is no safety, security. And rohingya influential people arrested by the burmese military, many disappeared already. And extortion is increasing. People are dying. There is no food, the restriction of aid isa there is no food, the restriction of aid is a serious issue and so the situation is not Getting Better at all. Stephen twigg, why do you need to launch an investigation into this crisis, we know whats going on, you just need to do something about it . Absolutely, the scale of this crisis is breathtaking. More than 600,000 rohingya have fled into neighbouring bangladesh. But this has been building up for years. So, plenty of chance to do something . Absolutely, the world has failed. We took evidence yesterday from human rights watch, who highlighted four years ago evidence of ethnic cleansing. Why do you think the International Community is doing nothing . why do you think the International Community is doing nothing . I think the International Community struggles to cope with more than one crisis at a time. There has been a big focus on syria. You have also got governments like the Chinese Government which have been supportive of the regime in burma. We need to put pressure on the government in burma, both cheap but also the military to stop, stop it now. Matthew, tell us about the conditions in the camps, briefly, if you would . There has been a tremendous influx of people, 700,000 over the course of a few weeks. There are tremendous needs shelter, food, health care. There are tens of thousands of unaccompanied minors just roaming freely through these camps. So, there are tremendous protection concerns. And people are still fleeing, as stephen twig and tun khin said. We put out a report today documenting mounting evidence of the crime of genocide in myanmar. And u nfortu nately crime of genocide in myanmar. And unfortunately the abuse has continued. Does it help that Rex Tillerson is bringing attention to the issue . Of course it helps and i welcome the fact that the uk has provided a lot of aid for bangladesh but in the end we need a political solution, and we need justice for the injured people so in the end this has to go to the International Criminal court because people need to bear responsibility for their actions. Thank you all of you for coming on the programme. A british explorer has vanished on his quest to met the yarifo tribe in papua new guinea. Benedict allen hasnt been heard since he was dropped off in the jungle by a helicopter three weeks ago. His wife raised the alarm when benedict failed to arrive back in the capital port morseby on sunday. The father of three travels without gps or a phone so that he can live like a local. Ina in a blog post he read that he was looking to meet up with the yarifo tribe 30 years after meeting them for the first time. He has made document is for the bbc. And see this place, this sacred house. Now, my fellow initiates are honouring me by remembering the time when we have all made it together. Thank you he speaks their language. Incredible my heart is like this do you know. . Incredible my heart is like this do you know. . No i thought there would be a small. Yeah, i thought i would be lucky to get a welcome at all my fellow initiates surrounding me, escorting me. Wow what a day this is a day i will never see again. Benedict travelled to the jungle 30 years ago and returned there 2016 with our security correspondent Frank Gardner. Our very own security correspondent Frank Gardner is a close friend of benedicts and saw him just before he left for the trip. What are you hearing, you must be worried . There is a search party out looking for him right now. They have beenin looking for him right now. They have been in contact with the helicopter pilot who dropped him off. Theyve try to retrace his route, they have spoken to local police chiefs. Lets keep an open mind about this. Normal time schedules go right out the window in papua new guinea. There are torrential downpours, landslides, mudslides, it is perfectly possible he has been invited to stay for some kind of ceremony and it would be rude to refuse. He could have got lost, he could have got ill and he is in a dangerous part of papua new guinea. Frankly i am keeping an open mind about it. But he is a very experienced explorer . He is extremely resilient, he is a natural explorer. He doesnt seem to know the meaning of fear. He approached these yarifo people 30 years ago, they charged at him with spears, and he held his ground and eventually made friends with them. But he hasnt been in touch with them for 30 years, so he was very excited about the prospect of saying, im going to go back, i dont know what im going to discover. I think he quite likes frisson of uncertainty what will i find . Where will i go . Kind of thing. But he was due to leave on sunday and it is now wednesday. Obviously, no contact, because has no means of communicating with him. But as you say, there could be all sorts of explanations at this point . Yeah. Normally they dont target tourists or travellers from outside papua new guinea. There is a lot of intertribal rivalry, and the most dangerous situation would be if he had encroached on another tribes territory and brought some tribespeople from another tribe, and that would put him in danger. That is the worst situation i think. Most likely, lets hope it isjust a natural delay and, you know, he wasnt able to get to a certain place at the right time. It is a very unpredictable place. It is fascinating, it is one of the last rate under explored places in the world, and thats why heres there. He is not really at ease in our world. He is happiest out there wearing jungle clothes, living with people, learning their language and pushing himself to the limit. Thank you very much, fracked dagnall, our security correspondent. Thank you very much for your company today. We are back tomorrow at nine oclock. We have had a rather cloudy start to the day across many parts of the uk, with mist and fog lingering on in some places. The mist and fog will still be slow to clear away from mainly central and eastern areas. Further west, there should be some brighter skies in wales and the south west of england and Northern Ireland. Northern england. Later on there will be some rain coming in and stronger winds, too. In england and stronger winds, too. In england and wales a few spots of rain and misty and murky conditions again in thursday morning. But that should be fairly quick to clear in england and wales. There will be some sunshine after that before this zone spreads itself and eastwards. It will be feeling colder. This is bbc news. And these are the top stories developing at 11am. Zimbabwes military says it has taken control of the country. It says Robert Mugabe, president since 1980, is safe, but his situation is unclear. Their security is guaranteed.
