And the hunt is on for a missing lynx thats on the loose in mid wales, after escaping from a wildlife park. Good evening and welcome to bbc news. Donald trumps former president ial Campaign Manager has been charged with conspiring to defraud the United States. Its one of 12 criminal charges brought against Paul Manafort and one of his business associates, including conspiring to launder money. Both men have pleaded not guilty. Its alleged they received 75 million in all from pro Russian Politicians in ukraine. Its also emerged that George Papadopoulos, another adviser to President Trump, has pleaded guilty to lying about his links to russia. Paul manafort, are you handing yourself into federal authorities today . This is not how it was meant to be. Mr manafort has no comment. Just over one year ago, multimillionaire Paul Manafort was Donald Trumps campaign chairman, a figure of huge influence. Normally talkative, today, more tight lipped. The indictment runs to over 30 pages and details of a complex web of Financial Arrangements to keep vast amounts secured from us authorities. It details how Paul Manafort was working as an agent for the pro russia party in ukraine from whom he received tens of millions of dollars in payments for decades until 2017. Its alleged he laundered 18 million through various accounts and companies, and by any means. Almost 1 million was funneled through an antiques rugs store in alexandria, virginia, millions laundered through a mens clothes store in new york. It adds a substantial layer of complexity, just the ukraine and the russia connection could add months and months to this investigation. In response to the indictment, the president has treated angrily. Sorry, but this is years ago, before Paul Manafort was part of the Trump Campaign, but why not crooked hillary and the democrats the focus . And another tweet on russia. Also, there is no collusion. That is the line taken by his lawyer. The allegations in the indictment are focused on their business activities, not campaign activities, not campaign events. But today, a separate, deeply damaging disclosure. This man, George Papadopoulos, a Foreign Policy adviser to the Trump Campaign, who President Trump once described as an excellent guy, secretly pleaded guilty earlier this month to lying to the fbi about his contacts with russian officials during the campaign. And this former state Department Official and International Lawyer said that could be much more significant. Manafort is a bigger figure, but we expected the charges and indictment against him to come at today. This guilty plea by papadopoulos discloses facts of communication between the Trump Campaign and russia that we didnt know about and that could be a much bigger problem for trump. The charge sheet against papadopoulos says he is cooperating fully with the authorities. In other words, it looks like hes prepared to reveal more information as part of a plea bargain. That might give other white house officials lawyers, and quickly. Earlier, an attorney for manafort spoke at a Media Conference in washington. He told reporters that there is no evidence of manafort or the Trump Campaign colluding with the russian government. Well, i think you all saw today that President Donald Trump was correct. There is no evidence that mr ma nafort there is no evidence that mr manafort or the Trump Campaign couuded manafort or the Trump Campaign colluded with the russian government. Mr manafort represented Pro European Union campaigns for the ukrainians. And in that, he was looking to further democracy and to help the ukraine. Those activities endedin help the ukraine. Those activities ended in 2014. Over two years before mr manafort served in the Trump Campaign. Today, you an indictment brought by an office of special counsel that is using a theory to prosecute regarding a prosecute mr manafort, regarding a file. The United States has only use that offends six times since 1966 and it only resulted in one conviction. The second thing about this indictment that i myself find most ridiculous is the claim that maintaining offshore accounts to bring all yourfunds maintaining offshore accounts to bring all your funds into the United States as a scheme to conceal from the United States government is ridiculous. Thank you. Jane 0brien is in washington. Two separate cases. Paul manafort and his associate and George Papadopoulos, how and his associate and george pa padopoulos, how has and his associate and George Papadopoulos, how has the white house been reacting to these two bits of news . The white house is trying very much to dismiss them. You heard the statement earlier from donald trump in a tweet, saying that this happened long before paul ma nafort this happened long before Paul Manafort was part of the campaign, that was were treated by the white house spokeswoman Sarah Sanders this afternoon. Reiterated. But the most significant details to emerge today those surrounding George Papadopoulos. Who was very much a pa rt papadopoulos. Who was very much a part of the campaign, the Foreign Policy adviser, and the allegations surrounding him go to the heart of this probe into whether or not anybody colluded with russian interference into the president ial election. So that is a very significant development. It also shows that bob mueller the special counsel is prepared to go after anybody, for anything, as he goes down this road of trying to uncover who knew what, exactly what happened in the 2016 campaign. Jane, we are going to leave it there, thank very much. Joining me now is renato mariotti, who is a former federal prosecutor and candidate for the illinois attorney general. Thank you very much indeed for joining us here. What strikes you, looking at the charges that have been brought against Paul Manafort and his associate . Well, regarding Paul Manafort, a couple of things. First, there are a number of charges that very narrow and straightforward for a prosecutor to. For example, that very narrow and straightforward fora prosecutorto. For example, mr ma nafort fora prosecutorto. For example, mr manafort and mr gates were both charged failing to make certain disclosures. Id you make the disclosures. Id you make the disclosure or you dont, that is a very straightforward thing for a prosecutor to prove. Similarly, these offshore accounts that the lawyer was talking about a minute ago. There is nothing ridiculous about them and frankly, that is a simple thing to prove. Either you have these foreign accounts or you dont and you made the disclosure about them or not. And the second thing, there is this wide ranging conspiracy that was charged. That, i felt, was very surprising to me because mr manafort was charged in a conspiracy with gates to conspire against United States in those wide ranging allegations. If you asked me a week ago what i thought the mr manafort charges would look like, i would say very narrow and very careful. That charge was a much larger, broader based charge. As a takeaway, i would say in terms of a conclusion, if i represented paul ma nafort conclusion, if i represented Paul Manafort or mr gates, what i would be hoping for is my client was not going to get a pardon, i would advise my clients to consider cooperating with mr moller. Andrew advise that because . A couple of reasons. They are facing very significant criminal power naughties, ten years or more in prison. That would be the recommended penalty from the government. In addition to that, some of these crimes are very straightforward to prove. And it is very ha rd to straightforward to prove. And it is very hard to believe, for example, that manafort made the disclosures that manafort made the disclosures that he is alleged to have not made. It is possible that bob mueller, this is a big mistake, but i would bet strongly that he has not. Just looking at this as somebody who was a prosecutor for a looking at this as somebody who was a prosecutorfor a decade, a federal prosecutor, and now represents people on the other side is a criminal defence lawyer, these are the sort of charges i think that very ha rd to the sort of charges i think that very hard to mount a defence against. Typically in the United States, federal prosecutors tends to win their cases most of the time, the majority of the time. These type of charges are fairly easy to prove. The statement we had a moment ago, it is fine for talking to the press, the statement by his lawyer, but frankly, i think that it is a disservice to his client. Because i would be more professional and respectful of the prosecution, given the strength of the charges here. Im looking forward, and is looking forward to the rescue of the task that Robert Mueller has, can we expect further charges or is this likely to be at . I would be very surprised if there were not further charges. The pa padopoulos surprised if there were not further charges. The papadopoulos charges may be receiving less attention but in the long run, they could be more important because mr papadopoulos in the long run, they could be more important because mr p with ipoulos in the long run, they could be more important because mr p with mr ilos has agreed to cooperate with mr mueller and his team and what that means is he has agreed to testify against other people. Hes providing information. If you look at the allegations in the document filed, those were very serious e mails that showed that he was looking for assistance from others, surrey, from the russian government. And he was e mailing others in the trump team about that. One of those individuals it has been reported in American Media a moment ago, that was the co chair of the Trump Campaign. That could be muellers next target, so i think he will continue this investigation and mr papadopoulos will be on his side while he does so. Well have to leave that, but thank you. And well find out how this story and many others are covered in tomorrows front pages at 10 40 this evening in the papers. Deputy editor of the express, and the political commentator daisy mcandrew. The government has called for action within days to deal with allegations of Sexual Harassment at westminster. The leader of the commons has told the house that she wants to see a new grievance procedure as soon as possible and a fresh code of conduct introduced, following claims of misconduct by some mps. 0ur Political EditorLaura Kuenssbergs report contains flash photography. What really happens within westminsters walls . Its work for thousands of people, but often, for young staff making their way, it is a place where they fear they could face harm. With suspicions in the air about politicianss behaviour. Order . The speaker told the parties it is theirjob to clean up. There must be zero tolerance of Sexual Harassment or bullying here at westminster or elsewhere. Andrea leadsom. With a stern faced theresa may alongside, the leader of the commons promised a new complaints system for staff and vowed the parties will Work Together. 0ur constituents will be rightly appalled at the thought that some representatives in Parliament May have acted in an entirely inappropriate way towards others. Parliament must take action in days, not weeks. A new support team for staff is planned, but how to tackle the more complicated question of culture . No woman, or man for that matter, coming to work in this house should be subjected to unwanted sexual advances from those in a position of power over them. No one should have to work in the toxic atmosphere of sleazy, sexist or homophobic banter. Dont think for a moment that much of this is really new. This place is about power and it has been an open secret for years that too often, its used for the wrong reasons. Suspicions are running high once more, but its too early to say if this is the start of a turning point, ora refrain of the same old story. Concerns about westminsters boozy culture where alcohol, ambition and long hours collide are long held. In 2014, the tory mp nigel evans was tried and cleared of sexual abuse of young men. But his lawyer described drunken overfamiliarity. And the then boss of the liberal democrats, lord renard, was accused of behaving inappropriately to female party members. He was never charged, yet eventually admitted he might have invaded their personal space. One of those who accuse tim said that kind of behaviour was hardly rare. I also can see this behaviour being seen as quite normal, to bum pinching or inappropriate kissing, or any of the kind of social norms that you think on the one side might be ok suddenly goes into the wrong direction. One of the problems mps employ their staff directly. Who can easily complain about the bass to the boss . As a rep for commons staff summed up. If there is an issue and you have nobody to go to, youre just going to slip away with your tail between your legs because you dont want to get a reputation as a troublemaker and the member gets away with it time and again because nobody will stand up and say, do you know what, there is a problem there. But whether victims are willing to spill this places secrets could change the view of this place. Laura kuenssberg, bbc news, westminster. Well, Harriet Harman whos a former caretaker leader of the labour party, and the first ever minister for women in tony blairs government described the kind of reform shed like to see introduced to tackle sexual at harassment at westminster. I think that what is really important is that has to be anonymity in the process so that complainants can make their complaint and complainants can make their complaintand a complainants can make their complaint and a fairly, independently investigated. Ive been for decades, this has gone on and its absolutely time that it stopped. John bercow seemed to suggest that the house must put in place procedures, but it is also up to the parties to get their house in order. Why do think it has taken until now for parties to look properly at their procedures on Sexual Harassment and bullying . |j think Sexual Harassment and bullying . think there is two things, one is it is difficult for some at the bottom of the system to complain about somebody at the top of the system. But also, the tribal Party Divisions in the house of commons mean that people going up in support of their own side. And actually, i think what weve got to do is to be even harder on our own side than we are on the other side. Certainly, i on our own side than we are on the otherside. Certainly, ifeel on our own side than we are on the other side. Certainly, ifeel even worse about accusations made against labour members of parliament because it reflects on all of those labour mps. Also, expect there to be Higher Standards from labour mps than mps generally. So it big we have to get out of our party tribal trenches, weve got to Work Together to have a process to sort it out, and weve got to be very unflinching on our own side and not going up to defend those of our own side who carry out misdemeanours like this. Who should decide whether or not a case of Sexual Harassment or harmless behaviour . Well, there is a thing about hamas, innocent behaviour because people are not stupid. Harmless. If they find something uncomfortable, it is not innocent and mps should bear on the side of caution. Id think we are fed up with the idea that people cant take a joke or it isjust with the idea that people cant take a joke or it is just innocent banter. Its not, we are here to do a job banter. Its not, we are here to do ajob and banter. Its not, we are here to do a job and really, it is for mps to stay the right side of a very firm line. And what concrete steps to you wa nt to line. And what concrete steps to you want to see stake in both at party and parliament level to stamp this out once and for all . I think as far as the labour party is concerned, i think misogynist or homophobic abuse online, one strike and you should be out. You can either do misogynist and homophobic abuse or you can be in the labour party. You cant do both. As far as parliament is concerned, i want to see all parties sign up to a very strict code of conduct. I want to see independent adjudication said the complaint can know that it is beamed out with belly, and i want to see anonymity for the complainant because it is very difficult for a junior person to complain against people who very powerful. That was Harriet Harman there speaking a little earlier. Joining me is anne mcelvoy, Senior Editor at the economist. Thank you very much. How much you recognise the sort of behaviour that has been talked about at westminster . Not necessarily personally. Some of that sort are personally. Some of that sort are personally but i have not worked directly at westminster, i had one foot through the door, but you have the other but in the outside world as you should have for your leaders. Ido as you should have for your leaders. I do recognise it. Nothing has shocked me and has made me think that could not have happened. What we have to do quite carefully now andi we have to do quite carefully now and i think the Prime Minister has a whole, less, to try to work out the behaviour that is clearly agreed should not happen in any workplace and is comparable. And this bit is more contentious, if the bids where westminster is a particular culture and has its own way of doing things, there is banter and a lot more challenge and downright rudeness to each other, but which sort of those with the grain of westminster and political being slightly political debate, of being slightly cooked up together and political debate, of being slightly cooked |ways ether and those , political debate, of being slightly cooked |ways things ind those , political debate, of being slightly cooked |ways things get those , political debate, of being slightly cooked |ways things get conducted. , partisan ways things get conducted. You have to be quite careful that you still allow people to speak freely. Sometimes to have a sense of humour if it is close to the bone. Yourjoke is humour if it is close to the bone. Your joke is maybe humour if it is close to the bone. Yourjoke is maybe not myjoke and Something Else is Something Else again. Separate that from areas where people need protecting and in particular younger female staff, researchers, people who cannot say, shut up i am not putting up with this. Harriet harman has a point on that. I dont want westminster to be turned into a cleanse chamber with no sort of risk and no humour, but she has a point on that. Another political commentatorjulia Hartley Brewer has this evening about unwelcome advances she fended off. She also says people have to distinguish between potentially criminal action at one end and what you might describe as banter or even flirting, even if it is inappropriate. That is right. That is difficult as it is in workplaces. The problem with westminster, if things go badly wrong, you had been if things go badly wrong, you had been if you badly treated, the banter if you reject it turns into you not getting the next job reject it turns into you not getting the nextjob or being replaced and it is not banter and a lot of women and people interested in how the modern workplace should work will be aware of that. I am sure she has her stories and some are funny and some less fu n ny. Stories and some are funny and some less funny. I have had a large and people asleep on me during a large dinner. Sing some interesting things and then telling the women they were absolutely marvellous. Does that come into the condition of being harassment at . At a lower level, it could be because it is hard to get rid of. You need to draw a line between that and something you think is impeding people working. Not having something to complain to. In the end, i felt this having something to complain to. In the end, ifelt this had gone beyond the end, ifelt this had gone beyond the pale, i would talk to whoever was the news editor or the editor. I would have somewhere to go. Where do people go, at young women, women of any age, who find themselves in people go, at young women, women of any age, who find themse that1 people go, at young women, women of any age, who find themse that is difficulty at westminster . That is not clear and you see difficulty at westminster . That is not cl to and you see ieigz difficulty at westminster . That is not cl to address see ieigz difficulty at westminster . That is not cl to address that. Gag difficulty at westminster . That is not cl to address that. Practically, trying to address that. Practically, what can be done . It is not the hr department, like a regal chamber. You need to have somewhere to go. There is one good comparison. It has been clear away you go for instance on if you think something is wrong with mps expenses. You could have a setup where you have an office which looks into things. You do have to have that. It has to be set up and it has to be cross party. To get this done. But there does need to be a place to go. Number 10 will not be able to get it off their plate and i do not think theresa may has done anything wrong, she has responded quickly and any government struggles, at what point do you withdraw the whip . That is what matters, if you think you lose the support of your colleagues and this is very bad and it could end your career. Until it is clear at what i think a lot point that kicks in, i think a lot little bit fuzzy of it is still a little bit fuzzy and she will come under pressure on that in the next week. Many thanks. Power sharing collapsed injanuary, and westminster has warned that it will begin the process of setting a budget for Northern Ireland, unless the deadlock between the democratic unionists and sinn fein can be brought to an end today. Stephen walker reports. To this group of campaigners, today was about unfinished business. The victims of historical child abuse, they want politicians to release compensation which has been blocked due to stormonts collapse. If these people really cared about us, these two main parties would get together, forget about all their squabbling and do something and be more fit for government. There to meet the families were a number of supportive mlas who want to see devolution and who feel frustrated by the ongoing talks. It seems to me that stormont has failed. The two parties who are supposed to lead our government clearly cannot get on together. Weve seen that over the last ten and a half years, and i feel very sorry. I am also ashamed and embarrassed to be an mla and i think the only alternative to the stand off is rule from westminster. We need our assembly and our executive up and running as quickly as possible. There are too many issues like these historical issues of abuse and the compensation scheme. Too many things need to be addressed and we cant do that until we get power restored here. Today sinn fein and the dup met, but little detail emerged on their discussions. In response to todays deadline, the smaller parties held talks, and they want greater openness. We get the blame game between the dup and sinn fein, and they get away with that simply because there is no openness or transparency. If we knew what the sticking points were, we and the wider public could be the judge as to what is unreasonable. So another day has passed with no agreement, and if there is no devolution, some say the time has come for mlas salaries to be docked. At least six people have died in germany, poland and the Czech Republic after storms swept through northern europe. Winds reached more than a hundred miles an hour in the Czech Republic, while off the coast of northern germany, emergency workers are struggling to move a stranded freight ship off a sandbank. Hamburgs city centre is flooded, and hundreds of thousands of homes are without power, as Damien Mcguinness reports from berlin. Buffeted by heavy winds, this plane attempts an emergency landing, landing in salzburg. But it is just so windy that it is too dangerous. The pilot aborts the landing and is forced to fly back to frankfurt. Further north, the centre of hamburg has been flooded. The river elbe reached 10 feet above its normal level and a freighter carrying thousands of tonnes of fuel oil has run aground. The authorities are trying to rescue the crew and there are concerns that the oil might leak. Across northern germany, trains are cancelled. Mainly because of falling trees. In berlin, the fire service declared a state of emergency. In the Czech Republic, because of falling trees and branches, hundreds of thousands of households have lost electricity. Three children have escaped from a house fire in powys in which a number of members of the same family, including children, are believed to have died. The children, aged 10, 12 and 13, are being treated in hospital after fleeing the blaze at a home in llangammack wells sian lloyd reports. Total devastation. This farmhouse was home to a father and his children. The remote property in mid wales was already well alight when fire crews arrived not long after midnight. Three children aged 13, 12 and ten managed to escape but its known that others have died here. Ronald birchall is a neighbour, who told me at least seven children lived at the farmhouse, the youngest aged around five. Absolutely devastated. We just cannot believe this has happened and we dont know why it has happened. And that is the big problem, isnt it . Why has this happened . The house is hidden by trees, but across the hillside, wisps of smoke can still be seen. 20 members of the Brecon Mountain Rescue Team were called in by fire and ambulance crews and spent eight hours helping search the surrounding countryside in case others had managed to escape. There are a number of people unaccounted for at this time. We can confirm that there are known to be fatalities. Due to the severity of damage at the scene, we are unable at this stage to identify any of the deceased, or to confirm the number of deceased. Fire crews have been working in the area for most of the day. The family were well known in this small, rural community. The children went to local schools and were often seen out and about in the village with their father, who is believed to be in his sixties. Although the scene of this fire is remote, the access road remains blocked off while scientists and fire officers carry out their investigations. The cause of the blaze is still unknown. They are looking for answers but there are many questions here from the local community. Sian lloyd, bbc news. The influential economic think tank the institute for fiscal studies says the chancellor is caught between a rock and a hard place as he prepares his forthcoming budget. It says Philip Hammond will have to abandon his target for getting rid of the deficit if hes to meet demands from cabinet colleagues to increase spending. The treasury says it will continue to adopt a balanced approach. 0ur economics editor kamal ahmed told us it has given the chancellor a triple headache. Government debts are higher, taxes are higher and also, weve of course had those Public Sector cuts as well. I asked pauljohnson, the head of the institute for fiscal studies, whether now was the time, given that pressure from cabinet colleagues, given that political pressure, to really raise borrowing to boost the economy. I dont think the chancellor wants to have a big stimulus at the moment, not least because theresjust so much uncertainty about where we are going to be in a year or two. If hes going to have a stimulus budget i think its most likely to come in 2019 or 2020 when we see what the shape of brexit looks like, when we see what the shape of its impact on the economy is, to do Something Big now, given how much uncertainty there is about where well be in a couple of years time, might tie his hands that bit too much. Does he get rid of or lengthen the period at which he says hell balance the books . That is where the pressure is going to be. Philip hammond is a fiscal conservative but his cabinet colleagues want a bit more money to best the economy. A Cancer Charity is warning about the amount of what it calls fake news about the disease on the internet. Macmillan Cancer Support is so concerned that it has appointed its First Digital nurse to weed out the false claims and unverified statistics that leave some patients terrified. Shes called ellen mcpake and her job is to provide online advice about diagnosis and treatment. James shaw has been speaking to her. A cancer diagnosis would be a devastating moment in anyones life, and according to the charity macmillan, two out of five people who find out that theyve got cancer go to the internet to try to search for answers. But how do you know if you can trust what you find . Well, im just typing in Prostate Cancer and a lot of the results that are coming back, well, they look ok. For example, nhs choices, that is a reliable site with a lot of useful information on it. But if you are looking in the wrong place, you might not be so lucky. For example, there are downright dangerous claims out there that baking soda can be a cure or that chemotherapy, even, is more dangerous than cancer. The Cancer Charity macmillan has appointed a digital nurse to provide answers that people can trust. We know by research that the minute somebody is told theyve got cancer they shut down, they dont hear anything else. Look, i know you are potentially going to go away after this and you are going to look at the internet and you are going to want to get more information, and i would give them a list of reliable, trustworthy sources and say, if you are going to do that, here are sites or here are organisations that have got that trustworthy, reliable information, ellen will be based at the charitys headquarters in glasgow, via social media and the macmillan website. Via social media and the macmillan website, she will answer questions from across the uk. The amount of Carbon Dioxide in the earths atmosphere last year was the highest for more than 800,000 years. The World Meteorological 0rganisation says human activity and the el nino weather phenomenon caused the dramatic increase. Theyre warning the results could make global temperature targets largely unattainable as Rebecca Morelle reports. Keeping track of our atmosphere. For decades, research stations like this one in the swiss alps have been monitoring levels of Carbon Dioxide. Their latest findings show that the Greenhouse Gas has hit a new high. This should be setting off alarm bells throughout the corridors of power around the world. We are talking about three parts per million increase, which is the biggest increase we have ever recorded, its the biggest increase we can find in the geological record for millions of years. Its the fastest increase in 2016. This record breaking rise has been driven by human activities and the el nino weather phenomenon. Every few years, the Pacific Ocean surface becomes warmer. This causes wind patterns to change and weather is dramatically altered. Its caused drought, stopping vegetation growing and preventing plants and trees from soaking up Carbon Dioxide. Its also led to forest fires, which have injected more of the Greenhouse Gas into the atmosphere. So how significant are todays findings . 0ver hundreds and thousands of years, Carbon Dioxide levels have fluctuated, but from 1950, levels have surged. Todays figures are the highest we have ever recorded. Its leading to unprecedented changes in places like the arctic, affecting the regions unique wildlife. The mother walrus still needs to find a place where her young can rest. Increases in Carbon Dioxide are causing temperatures to rise, and the ice is melting faster than the animals can adapt. In 2015, the world agreed to big cuts in Greenhouse Gas emissions to limit warming, but experts say todays figures should prompt a renewed sense of urgency. There is hope, but we have to change our behaviour in the coming 10 to 20 years to be successful in this mitigation of effort. So far, we have not been successful enough, the issue is that Carbon Dioxide lingers for hundreds of years this will be the focus of International Climate talks next week. So will the announcement that america plans to withdraw from the current climate agreement. Finding a solution now may be more difficult to achieve. For more on this story, we can speak to dr Colin Summerhayes from the Scott Polar Institute at the university of cambridge. The levels of c02 are being compared to if not to what existed thousands if not millions of years ago. How do we know that . We have ways of measuring the Carbon Dioxide in the atmosphere. We can use the Carbon Dioxide measured in ice cores, which ta kes dioxide measured in ice cores, which takes us back 800,000 years. Apart from that, we can use things like the tiny little holes that plants breathe Carbon Dioxide through in their leaves. If you find that the Carbon Dioxide levels are low, you get more of these holes. If you find the Carbon Dioxide levels are high, you get fewer. So we can count these in fossil leaves back through time. And what happened when the world was like this last time . Do we know . Yes, we have good evidence that around three to 4 million years ago in pliocene times, the temperatures we re in pliocene times, the temperatures were significantly higher than they we re were significantly higher than they were at the beginning of the 20th century, by two to three degrees. And the amount of Carbon Dioxide in the atmosphere of the time was between 400 and 450 ppm, similar to what we are seeing at the moment. The other in effect we saw at that time was a Sea Level Rise of Something Like 15 metres. So the geology is trying to tell us something, that is the Carbon Dioxide goes up, temperature goes up and so does the sea level. Dioxide goes up, temperature goes up and so does the sealevel. A lot of this has been contributed to the el nino effect. What can we anticipate will happen in the future . Well, what el nino events do is add a bit more Carbon Dioxide to the underlying increasing trend caused by our emissions. They add Carbon Dioxide coming out of the surface of the Pacific Ocean, along with its heat. Those dont last long, perhaps 1to1 heat. Those dont last long, perhaps 1 to 1 and a half years, and then we get back on a trend line. I suspect we will see a in the we will see a steady increase in the yea rs we will see a steady increase in the years to come in Carbon Dioxide, but perhaps not by quite as much as it increased in 2016. We must leave it there. Thanks for joining increased in 2016. We must leave it there. Thanks forjoining us. Police in mid wales say a lynx that escaped from a wildlife park may have been spotted in the area last night. People are being warned to be vigilant after lillieth, who is twice the size of a domestic cat, escaped from the borth wild animal kingdom, near aberystwyth. Armed with just a net, they patrol the railway line in borth, but without success. The last confirmed sighting was yesterday evening, spotted on a nearby hillside using a thermal imaging camera of a Police Helicopter. We are fairly confident that it was the lynx that has gone missing. After that, zoo staff have seen the lynx in the area where the Police Helicopter believe they saw it. The zoo is under new ownership and say overcrowding could have been the problem. When we took over five months ago, it left us with this not very big enclosure with five lynx in. And they have started fighting. So it is a priority that we build a new enclosure for them. Lynx are notoriously shy creatures, and it is not thought that this escapee would present a danger to people. But farmers have already voiced concerns about safety to their livestock. I am very worried for any poultry keepers within this area. I am also worried for people with domestic pets. None at the moment, but i shall be looking. The thinking is that the lynx is hiding somewhere on this hillside behind me. That is where the two confirmed sightings were last night. Today, so far, we have had no clear sightings of her. But the police who are coordinating the search say tonight, it will intensify around dusk. They will be laying baited traps on the hillside to try and lure her in. Time for a look at the weather. At long last, we have had ourfirst widespread frost of the season.
