Iam back i am back with sally and a few minutes with a look at all the international papers. Before that, well as this report. World business report. Drama in the high skies european Planemaker Airbus takes a majority stake in bombardiers c seriesjets. Is this enough to dodge us sanctions . Video streaming pioneer netflix has done it again. More people are paying to tune in to programmes like the latest season of narcos. Welcome to World Business report. Im sally bundock. Also in the programme, a special report on why the Chinese Government is pushing so hard for electric cars. European Aerospace Firm airbus is to take a majority stake in bombardiers c series jet project. The c series has faced a series of problems, most recently a trade dispute in the us that imposed a 300 import tariff on the plane. So how will it work . Well, airbus will acquire a 50. 01 stake in the new company. Its called c series aircraft limited partnership. Bombardier will retain 31 and investment quebec will own the remaining i9 with the companys headquarters and bulk of assembly remain in quebec. Airbus chief executive tom enders said the company has offered to assemble some of the narrow body jets at its us plant in alabama for orders by american carriers. The us Assembly Line would mean the jets would not be subject to us anti dumping duties. Rival us plane maker boeing quickly responded to the announcement, saying this looks like a questionable deal between two heavily state subsidised competitors to skirt the recent findings of the us government. Adding our position remains that everyone should play by the same rules, for free and fair trade to work. Here in the uk, all eyes are on bombardiers factory in belfast, northern ireland, where wings for the c series are made. Its not clear how this latest deal will affect the uk plant, but local politicians have expressed cautious optimism. We will have more on that story later here on the bbc. In the run up to the start of Chinas Communist Party congress, weve been looking at three Major Economic challenges facing its leaders. One of the biggest is how to deal with the environmental consequences caused by years of unbridled Economic Growth. The government believes one answer is electric cars. Robin brant reports from the city of shenzhen in the south. Chinas economic boom has been a dirty business, with wealth and progress has come in and is pollution. Chinas leaders think this is part of the solution. More cars. Electric cars, to be specific. The southern megacities shenzhen is at the heart of the governments big green push. This sprawling complex is the home of byd, the Worlds Largest manufacturer of electric vehicles. This is notjust about trying to ensure a greener, cleaner future for china. There is an industrial strategy at play here, because china is trying to become the worlds dominant manufacturer of what is tucked away under here. But there is a price to pay in the bid to become the battery kings of the world. An environmental price. This is late in 2016. Protesters outside the byd factory, claiming poisonous gas was being pumped out of the planned. Government inspectors ordered new, sealed facilities. Just over the road, some of the neighbours who live high up are still worried. The Summer Nights are hot in shenzhen, but this mother has not been opening the windows in her childrens bedroom. Translation we bought the apartment, the developer told us the plant would move elsewhere in a couple of years. After we moved here, little seems to have changed. The factories and really saying it is going to move. The smell is very strong. It has severely affect of our lives. But is it the price of progress, i asked . Yes, she told me. Chinas challenges to sustain Economic Growth and detoxify its air land and water. In shenzhen, like in every province, inspectors have punished polluting firms and caught lying officials. Chinas had ideas include carbon trading, online pollution monitoring, all of it aimed at reversing the effects of decades of gritty growth. But that will not help those prematurely finding their final resting place now. Now, what we watch and how has changed radically in recent years. So too has how we pay for it and the big disrupter in the market has been netflix. House of cards, the crown, 13 reasons why are among the original content it offers and the latest numbers from the company show it is still hitting the mark. Netflix says it made a profit of 130 million its revenues ringing in atjust under 3 billion thats in the three months to the end of september. But the crucial number to watch is the number of users. Thats grown by 5. 3 million in the Third Quarter and netflix says there will be an even larger pickup in the fourth quarter. And whilst the United States remains its biggest market, the rest of the world is increasingly subscribing too. With me is amit pau, managing director, ariadne capital. Good morning. Good morning, sally. These figures are pretty good, i stay . Markets celebrated, shares of netflix went up in outer balustrade in the us. They are blocked us the results. Blockbuster results. We are results. Blockbuster results. We a re really results. Blockbuster results. We are really at the start of the journey from linear tv to digital streaming. That means there will be a billion consumers paying for digital tv, and the results are absolutely spectacular. They are crushed the results. Bear in mind, quarter to results, they increased their expectations. The executive tea m their expectations. The executive team did a fantasticjob. Their expectations. The executive team did a fantastic job. How have they done it . They have increased prices very recently. We have seen the impact of that in the next set of results. Is itjust about the amazing content . Or is it because it is still relatively cheap compared to many competitors . There are a number of factors. Firstly, unlike some other us tech companies, they have really been very aggressive from day one on international expansion. International expansion growth has been phenomenal, far greater than us growth. And you are absolutely right about regional content. They are spending an obscene amount of money producing original content, house of cards, oranges the new black. They are going to go for spending 1. 8 billion in the regional content to 3. 5 Million Dollars this year. How are they going to fund that. That is the worry. They have said 50 of the content on netflix will be original netflix content, partly in reaction to some of the people they have had relationships with in the past, like disney pulling away their programming from netflix. Absolutely. The funding at the moment has really come from the bond markets. They will not be Free Cash Flow positive until 2021. They will have to tap into the bond markets, and considering in the next years alone, they are going to spend another 18 billion, the key challenge netflix faces now is, can they continue that stella subscriber growth . Can they continue to produce blockbusters through their original exclusive content . And can they make the economics of production, because, still, producing content is very expensive with a low subscriber base. We will have to do leave its there. Thank you for your analysis. Really interesting. Netflix, for now, seemingly doing extremely well.
