A declaration to that effect but suspended it to allow for talks. Now it is time for our newspaper review. Harvey weinsteins fall from grace is continuing to dominate the headlines around the world. The Philippine Star reports on the growing number of female actresses who have spoken out against the hollywood producer whos accused of sexual assault. There was a blackout on that story. It was supposed to be the philippines start. Apparently we cant show you what is going on in terms of graphics so we have the philippines start, we also have the guardian. The guardian is reporting on the International Monetary funds half yearly fiscal monitor. This is a high tech here. If we have a look at the japan times story, they are focusing, because of a scandal around the still company, they are wondering if the company and its reputation as a world leader is being marred by scandals. That is the line being taken by the japan times. Now, hopefully the new york times. Now, hopefully the new york times. Let me tell you what it is about. They say the east african nations wish to ban used clothing imports. They say country is, their countries have become dumping grounds the unwanted goods. And the Daily Telegraph will look at that as well. Leading with an argument in the uk over the governments so called dementia tax. The conservatives say that pensioners should not regard their homes as assets to give to their offspring and there could be sold to help pay for their care needs. We got there. We did. We have cornelia with us, good morning. Shall we start. We thought the Philippine Star, the whole wide world has picked up on this Harvey Weinstein story, which says something about the nature of the story out of the way in which it is perceived in hollywood. Gets everyone. Hollywood does get eve ryo ne everyone. Hollywood does get everyone and hopefully this will help. This is notjust a hollywood story. These sort of Sexual Harassment issues are in many industries. It is good to sensitise. It is difficult for mist weinstein hull it is probably good to have something that focuses so much and gets people thinking, maybe changes attitudes. Yesterday was the International Day of the girl so lets hope for the girls, for the next generation that comes, they will not have to put up with this. In any industry anywhere. Do you think it is another of the chauvinist fortresses coming crumbling down and we are moving into another era was to mark or is this a i off . Into another era was to mark or is this a 1off . The mood, the zeitgeist is moving towards getting rid of these things. But then you have an american president who got elected who just shortly before this election was bragging on access hollywood tapes about making advances to females. So i do not know. I hope will change. Lucker said yesterday, the international of the girl, so, for the girls, i hope this will change. I do hope you are right. Moving on now to the guardian. What do you make of the International Monetary funds latest idea to tax the wealthiest 1 in the world and make them pay more tax in order to help the rest of us . This is their big plan. Absolutely. Goes against what donald trump is trying to do with this tax reform. There was, indeed, reagan economics, which i tend to call reagan comics was based on something cold a curve, something that when you tax the rich lest they will invest more create more jobs. That is proven not to be the case. So a progression in terms of earning more and paying a higher percentage of tax makes a lot of sense. The issue with this is that the top i of the wealthiest people in the world pay very little tax because, actually, their business and the operations are domiciled in countries. So regardless of the tax rate . Do you think it will make any difference . They will move muggy and operations elsewhere. The story goes on to all sorts of other proposals, people earning more than £123,000 pay 53 tax and so forth. It is notjust the top 1 . It is getting a progression in there. You will always get those who are super wealthy but it is to get the whole syste m wealthy but it is to get the whole system to be fairer. Lets move on. Japans reputation as one of the great industrial, notjust powerhouses are innovators. They have been at the forefront for so long, being knocked by the latest scandal, there was the airbag case where the company went bust. And it is all in the car industry. Remember the Diesel Scandal from the germans . Another great manufacturing nation. This is all about governance and making sure that what you say you do, you really do do. That you walk the talk. It has been. The government says it is partly the car industry, partly the government. It isa industry, partly the government. It is a certification issue. But is one of the people quoted here said it is a good sign that these stories are coming to light because it means that there is more emphasis put on it. I would still say that japan is a great manufacturing nation and you will always get the outliers are hull it is good to focus on corporate hull it is good to focus on Corporate Governance on hull it is good to focus on Corporate Governance on walking the talk of quality control. Moving on to this story. The front page of the new york times. Interesting, one of their features, looking new york times. Interesting, one of theirfeatures, looking at new york times. Interesting, one of their features, looking at the hand me down battle faced in some countries in africa such as kenya and mozambique. They we are conscious of recycling and sending off to countries that do not have, childrens clothes that are virtually new, they are great condition, we sent them off. This tells us another story about where it arriving on the fact that it is not a blessing. Yes. These countries have young populations and they need to create jobs. If they receive everything, they can create jobs in the textile industry that they need. That is a real issue. If you look at the area that i deal with, the middle east and north africa, we need 100 millionjobs in the next decade just to stand still. How does it stop people from getting employment was to mark this stops people from getting employment because you do not start your own textile industry. If you do not start your own textile industry and you get a ready made goods, then there are no seamstresses to stitch things together, no weavers for weaving cloth and all of this. Me ntally weaving cloth and all of this. Mentally a makes environmentally it may make sense but i am not so certain once you factor in shipping and such costs. I need to stop you there because we have one more story. Homes are not an asset. I have grown up with being that an understanding, almost, that you leave something behind. Have we got to scrap that idea . It tightens into the imf story. Here, i think, what the imf story. Here, i think, what the conservatives are proposing, thatis the conservatives are proposing, that is difficult because we have an affluent older population so if they propose this, then good luck in the next election. Thank you for your company. Hello, good morning. The weather is much, much quieter now. It is actually turning quite chilly out there, under the clearer skies. But, for a while on wednesday, we had some quite Severe Weather in cumbria. Heavy cloud, low cloud as well, producing a lot of rain, feeding into the rivers as the water drained down from higher ground. And it was in the highest ground that we had some of the heaviest rain. Honister, for example, over 200mm of rain falling in about 2k hours. The rain was quite localised, but heavy for a while on what was a thicker band of cloud, a more active weather front. But, as that swept south eastwards, so the cloud thinned and narrowed, and the front weakened. Were into a bit of a flat ridge, if you like, for today, but this deepening low pressure is waiting in the wings by the end of the week. But a quieter day on thursday. A little bit chilly out there in the morning, one or two early mist patches in the south. But a lot of dry weather, and some sunshine too. As you had further north, though, the winds are that bit stronger, in scotland and Northern Ireland in particular. And there will be more cloud here from the word go, and a few showers, mainly around the highlands and islands. The heaviest showers for the northern isles. Now, the winds are going to be quite gusty and scotland, and picking up in Northern Ireland, too. Theyll always keep a bit more cloud around here from time to time. The threat of rain in the far north west, perhaps. Some patchy cloud developing in england and wales, but more sunshine than we had yesterday. Slightly fresher air, but temperatures will be very similar to what we had on wednesday, and it should be a decent day for most of us. But those weather systems arrive in the north west overnight, thickening the cloud, bringing outbreaks of rain, and the winds will be picking up, as well. The wettest weather always going to be over the hills. More rain over western scotland pushing into cumbria, perhaps north wales. Further south and east, get some sunshine and those temperatures are going to be close to 20 degrees. Quite warm air across much of the uk, and as we head into the weekend, were going to draw up some warmer air from iberia, from biscay, into some central, southern parts of the uk. Quite a difference in temperature, as you can see, either side of that weather front which, which having moved southwards, is going to start to move northwards again on saturday, and initially, not much rain on that at all. A band of cloud, drizzly rain over the hills. It may turn wet in the north west later in the day. But warming up to the south, and those temperatures getting up to 19, 20 degrees. Hello, this is breakfast, with Naga Munchetty and charlie stayt. A cap on energy bills for 12 million households. The government will release details of a law put a limit on some of the most common tarrifs. The Prime Minister hopes the move will keep costs down, but some in the industry warn it could drive prices up. Ill be looking at the details of the changes. Good morning, its thursday the 12th of october. Also this morning actress and Model Cara Delevingne becomes the latest woman to accuse Harvey Weinstein of inappropriate behaviour as the Oscars Academy considers taking action against the director.
