Can see a brand new trading week has begun with spain edging higher. And gold its where nervous investors put their money in uncertain times, so why has this stuff lost its shine in the last few months . Well speak to the uks biggest bullion trader. And as one of britains biggest Property Owners predicts the death of the high street store, we want to know how much of your shopping do you do online . All of it . Orjust certain items . Let us know, just use the hashtag bbcbizlive. Welcome to the programme. It isa it is a critical week for spain with investors worldwide watching what happens in the next 2a to 48 hours. Over the weekend more businesses in catalonia said they are taking steps to prepare in case the region does try to break away and declare independence from spain. The Central Government has passed a decree making it easierforfirms to move their legal headquarters away from catalonia, with companies no longer needing share holder approval. One of the countrys biggest banks, sabadell, and one of catalonias largest Savings Banks casha, have done just that, in an effort to make sure they continue to have access to eurozone funds in the event of a declaration of independence. And there are warnings there could be a dent on investor confidence. The Ratings Agency Standard Poors has put catalonia on watch, saying the tensions could result in its debt rating being downgraded. Antonio barroso, managing director at teneo intelligence is here. The details about who we know is moving so far, it is interesting this morning we are hearing that one of the telecommunications are considering moving from barcelona to madrid. How significant are these moves . Madrid. How significant are these moves . It is very significant from a political message point of view. Some of these companies have said they will, but some of the banks have had to do it because the value of their stocks have fallen. As a result, they decided they will move their headquarters. It doesnt have a big impact on the structure of the bank, but the moment they move outside of catalonia, their stock prices went up. But it will have an effect on catalonia. This would have an impact onjobs . It effect on catalonia. This would have an impact on jobs . It depends on whether independence manifest itself, which i think is unlikely. In terms of influencing the ongoing stand off between the catalonian government and the spanish authorities, the banks are wanting to send a strong message. If you keep on pushing, i will pull out of catalonia. That message is similar to the brexit message, the uk leaving the european union. How many power levels, we are talking about economies of different sizes and different people. But there is a similar argument about independence are getting away from the european union. That is the difficult thing between the difference brexit and catalonia. The common factor here is, there is no win, win situation. The interesting thing is, the cata la n the interesting thing is, the Catalan Independence movement, they wa nt to Catalan Independence movement, they want to remain in the eu because it is best for the economy. The eu has been clear, if you are outside of spain, you will be outside the european union. It could be a crucial week this week . The catalonia independence movement, are ambiguous about what they will do. I think they will make some kind of declaration. If they say catalonia will have independence, i expect the Spanish Government to crack down significantly on the catalonia independence movement. Antonio, thank you very much indeed. Lets take a look at some of the other stories making the news. The accommodation website aianb paid just £188,000 thats around 250,000 in Corporation Tax in the uk last year. Thats despite collecting more than 800 million in rental payments for Property Owners. In a statement aianb said it follows the rules and pays all the tax it owes. The eu has been closely scrutinising the tax affairs of tech giants recently the uks leading retail trade body says brexit could lead to higher prices for shoppers and slower home deliveries. The British Retail Consortium says that companies and staff are lacking certainty about their future once the uk leaves the european union. It says 170,000 eu nationals work in british retail are a vital part of its success. Argentine airlines has suspended flights to the venezuelan capital, caracas. The company said it had concerns over security in venezuela because of increasing criminal violence and political uncertainty. Four other airlines have taken similar action as the country experiences a severe economic and political crisis. Lets take you to asia stocks in china are on the rise after the week long holiday. So hows it all looking after the break . Our Business Reporter leisha sa ntorelli in singapore. Nice to see you. Golden week, the first day of trade, they have decided to go for it . Chinese stocks seem to have a bit of a holiday glow. The markets in shanghai, 2 at the open. That has tapered after the pmi survey came out and it was disappointing. But the performance we are seeing is one of catch up. Last week there were closed for the golden week holiday. We saw us stocks log one of their longest record closes in 20 years. So the bullishness has carried over into the chinese market. We saw two area is doing well, banking stocks as well as consumer staples. Things like supermarkets and retail outlets. In terms banks, they did well, raised by more than 3 . This is the first chance have had to respond to move by China Central bank. It means the amount of money that banks have two hold in reserve has been reduced, so we saw banking shares rise in response to that. A very good performance overall. Thank you very much indeed. Some markets are still closed in asia. No action injapan, are still closed in asia. No action in japan, south are still closed in asia. No action injapan, south korea was close, south taiwan but china was open and hong kong open. Hong kong taking and not following the Economic News from china. That is friday in the united states, lets look at europe. We have a busy week in terms of what is going on. I will fill you in soon. That is how the European Market have started their day. Earnings from four of the big banks. Jp morgan, citigroup, also Federal Reserve, the meeting minutes. The world bank have their annual jamboree. That is happening as the week progresses. It isa happening as the week progresses. It is a busy time. And Samira Hussain has the details about whats ahead on wall street today. The annual meeting for the world bank and the imf begins on monday in washington. Central bankers, ministers of finance and development, parliamentarians and executives will gather to discuss issues of global concern, including poverty eradication, Economic Development and aid effectiveness. On wednesday the Federal Reserve will release the minutes from its last meeting. In that meeting it decided to leave Interest Rates as is, but hinted there could be one more rate rise by the end of the year. Finally on thursday, some of americas biggest banks will start reporting earnings. Kicking it off will be jp morgan reporting earnings. Kicking it off will bejp morgan chase and citigroup. If they will be followed by bank of america and wells fargo on friday. She will be busy. David buik from the stockbrokers and Investment Firm Panmure Gordon joins us. Hgppy happy monday to you, i bet those us banks are being good, shares up 10 . We will talk about that later in the week. Another warning about brexit . Sir howard davies, who i think is a wonderful person in every respect. He is an intellect, academic and great experience in the world of business regulation, appointed chairman of the royal bank of scotland. Very stark warning to the politicians, stop messing around. Because if you dont, by the end of march, which is only five and a half months ago, you will find droves of people leaving the Financial Markets and heading for europe. This is a very sensible warning, because the government has made a complete dearth of negotiations. The arguments going on to agree the divorce bill are clearly damaging any progress. So a transition period for two years is fundamental. Personally speaking i think he has his tongue protruding through his cheek, because you cannot shift 100,000 people from one centre around europe, if you dont have the infrastructure to do it. This is a debate before we voted . Some will leave and there will be thousands, but not the numbers they are saying. Some have already relocated but very small. The great debate is whether they are concerned about that in parliament . We have seen the confusion within the conservative party, you can call it confusion, chaos. You are very diplomatic. But the eye is off the ball. I will use the word shambles. Absolute shambles. Amid that shambles, nothing is getting done. We need leadership, no time to be having little games of people sorting out changing the leader. We need to get this deal done and we need to get this deal done and we need to get this deal done and we need to do it in a friendly manner. A lot of people saying, to hell with it, we will leave. No you wont, because that is stupid. We need to get this sorted out and it needs to be done. I hope david davies, because ollie robinson, has gone to number ten to help the Prime Minister. David davis needs help as does sir tim barrow, with further negotiators, top quality people. Marks out of ten for how hopeful you are . Five. David, thank you. We will speak more later. David is coming back. Still to come and gold its where nervous investors put their money in uncertain times, so why has this stuff lost its shine in the last few months . Well speak to the uks biggest bullion trader. Youre with business live from bbc news. Before we talk gold, and feel the stuff. We have a bullion in the studio. It is very well protected. It is. How can the uk train enough new engineers to work on the countrys major Infrastructure Projects . By opening a new college dedicated to exactly that. The National College for high speed rail is designed to address the skills shortages faced notjust by hs2 but also the wider rail industry. Steph mcgovern is there for us. This doesnt look like your average college. There is a train track in the middle of this brand new Education Centre in doncaster. Hello, good morning. These are some of the students and teachers. They will be helping to make sure all the jobs we need to build high speed rail will be filled with lots of the bright young people who are here this morning. We have a chief executive of the college. Lets go ona executive of the college. Lets go on a tour. What you have got is our Virtual Reality classroom housed within our eurostar power car. So the front end of the power car has been converted into a driver, where we have Virtual Reality activities going on and that is a Virtual Reality classroom. Underneath the train we have the inspection pit, so you can inspect what is going on under the train. You can inspect what is going on underthe train. In you can inspect what is going on under the train. In the rest of the workshop, you have the new technology that is coming into the rail industry. To demonstrate how this has played a key feature in engineering. This station in front of us is where all the Power Equipment is, so this is about setting up power lines, how you tension them and repair them. We have different examples of augmented and Virtual Reality taking place around the workshop. How does this compare to other colleges in terms of facilities . We have benefited from the fact we are focused on the rail industry. We have had industry support so £8 million of kit donations from industries has taken place. Focused on making sure we have got the latest technology, we have got the latest technology, we have Cutting Edge Equipment so we can get training taking place for future skills. I am going to leave you with these guys using Virtual Reality. They are able to look inside the train there and move it along the table. It looks fascinating, doesnt it, thats it from me. Youre watching business live. Our top story some businesses in catalonia are moving their operations out of the region in case it declares independence from spain. Thats an announcement that could happen tomorrow, of course, everybody is waiting and watching to see what happens. News already this morning that another firm, a see what happens. News already this morning that anotherfirm, a spanish Telecoms Firm will hold a meeting later today to decide whether it moves its headquarters. Of all the many things we discuss here on business live perhaps the one we would all like to most get our hands on is gold. Despite all the excitement about tech start ups and Digital Currencies it is the one Asset Investors turn to time and again when uncertainty looms. And 2017 has provided plenty of that. Its up again slightly today amid renewed concerns about north korea. Overall its risen about 15 this year thanks to fears of inflation, and record high stock markets. One firm thats benefited from all of this is baird and co. Its the uks biggest independent bullion trader and the only company in the uk that actually makes and refines gold bullion. In fact, it makes 10 to 12 tonnes of the stuff each year which accounts for 75 of uk consumption. It was founded in 1967, baird has since diversified into silver, platinum, palladium and rhodium, which they sell to retail investors, jewellers and industrial users. Tony dobra is executive director of baird and company. He has brought some gold in which is inna prime he has brought some gold in which is inn a prime position. We cant touch it. While we are looking at that tony, just tell bus the fact that this is probably the most important week in the calendar year for the gold market. Explain why . We are approaching diwali which is the indian festival of light which occu is indian festival of light which occurs this weekend. We expect demand to be high this week. Historically it has been our busiest week of the year. For many, many yea rs. Week of the year. For many, many years. As far back as the business was founded. It was founded in 1867 and gold coins was the easiest way for the public to access gold. The history of the company this has been out history of the company this has been our busy, busy week for being able to supply gold. It is interesting with festivals like diwali, thats never changed. Gold is in and out of favour and before the financial scris of 2008 crisis of 2008, gold has back in favour. At some point it was very high because it was seen point it was very high because it was seen as point it was very high because it was seen as the safe haven. Things like diwali, every year you can guarantee you will shift a heck of that lot of that stuff . Demand can vary. Since 2008 it has been strong. We saw a big jump vary. Since 2008 it has been strong. We sawa bigjump in vary. Since 2008 it has been strong. We saw a big jump in demand actually on the brexit vote. That was probably our busiest time since the crisis from 2008 to 2011. How much does Something Like this cost . How much, that for a bit of prospective. There is my hand. It is not huge. How much does that cost . With gold under £1,000 how much does that cost . With gold under£1,000 an ounce, how much does that cost . With gold under £1,000 an ounce, five ounces is going to be under £5,000. The coin isa is going to be under £5,000. The coin is a sovereign £250, the current sovereign has been around 200 years and is worth, it has the same buying power as it had 200 years. Who buys Something Like this. Who buys Something Like that . Weve talk about jewellery. We who buys Something Like that . Weve talk aboutjewellery. We talk who buys Something Like that . Weve talk about jewellery. We talk about traders. This is the current gold price, it is down a little bit. People clearly investing, do people buy it as a way of putting their money . It is a way of investing money . It is a way of investing money and passing on wealth. Something like this sovereign, you see grandparents buying two or three to give to their grandchildren. It is typical or christening gifts or naming gifts. When you come to the investment bars typically the investor starts at £4,000 or £5,000 and builds their way up to the kilo bars and thats around £31,000. So we see investors from the £250 coin up we see investors from the £250 coin up to £250,000, even several million. Whats incredible about gold. It is an asset you can have in your safe and it may go up and down in value depending on the price, but it is something that, it is solid, isnt it . It will not depreciate. All the gold thats been mined is still in circulation in one form or another and we talk about north korea and the possibility of complete economic shutdown. Your equities is worth nothing if you cant buy or sell shares. Your bitcoin is worth nothing if your mobile phone doesnt work. This is solid and one example of that is the World Trade Center . Yes. As i was saying earlier to you, i worked for a bank that had its vault under the World Trade Center in 2001. When the towers came down, fortunately the vault staff came out, but nine months later, the bank was able to extract all the bullion that was in the vault. Untouched . Yes. The treasure out there, i was grilling him about where the treasure is, all the rumours and the Hidden Treasures in the world. It is fascinating. Dont tell anyone we will bury that in new broadcasting house. That could become the new myth. This is dove and they issued a series of adverts and dove said it missed the mark after being accused of racism in a campaign. David, explain this. I thought Prime Minister ra hoy was guilty of the biggest pr shambles for want of a better expression earlier in the week, but it doesnt hold a candle to this. This is offensive and what i dont understand dove for viewers is made by unilever and it is a soap and theyve had a campaign whereby there is a black girl who peels off her shirt and it becomes white. Now you can look at that and say well, whats wrong with that . If you think about it, it is breathtakingly offensive. Its terrible and what surprises me, sally and ben is why the legal beavers at dove and at unilever didnt pick it up, even if it is not illegal, they know how important it is to be politically correct. They have apologised. But its too late. They are saying they we re its too late. They are saying they were trying to get across the message of celebration of diversity because when the woman with the white, the white woman with the white, the white woman with the white top takes her top off, there is an asian woman there and it continues the story, but as you say, it has been interpreted in one way as far as the masses on social media are concerned and it is something they are not happy with. Facebook, 3,000 clicks on it. It caused a lot of heartache. Damaging to the brand and we will see how they recover. An apology for many is not enough. Its too late. This is a warning that high Street Stores or Traditional Stores are at an end. This is aviva who has a substantial portfolio with shops. Our record is having sold £950,000 of commercial property. Why . Because shops are closing. Because people are dealing online. Theyre buying stuff online and the more life goes by, the more is happening. That photograph is like an Old Fashioned department store. I dont know which one it is. Its in manchester. I love wandering those stores until i had children manchester. I love wandering those stores until i had children i buy everything online. Now, i never go in thesmt there is another property company, warehouses. Amazon, love it. Sally, ben, thank you for having me. Nice to see you tool. See you again tomorrow. We will. Byebye. Have a great day. Good morning. Not too chilly, but for some of us grey patches with mist afog. The cloud is thick enough to produce some rain and drizzle. It will be a cloudy picture. Some outbreaks of rain and drizzle working their way from west to east and the cloud will thin and break. I think the best of those will be for eastern parts of scotland and for north east england. Further west, more in the way of cloud and patchy outbreaks of rain. Temperatures around 13 or 14 celsius. As we come further south, still a fair amount of cloud. Further east a few patchy outbreaks of rain. We could see highs of 18 celsius in the south east. A lot of cloud around. A lot of dry weather, but still one or two showers to look out for in the south west. It will brighten up with temperatures at a maximum of around 16 celsius. For wales, starting to see a few brighter intervals, particularly the further south you are. Temperatures in the mid teens. Into northern ireland, we will start to see more in the way of rain pushing in from the west into the late afternoon. Now that rain will continue to edge its way across towards the south and east as we move through this evening a overnight. A night to come. Further south, drier with clearer spells, where it the cloud will increase. Behind that front, we will see cooler air. An overnight low of between six and 13 celsius. So we start the day tomorrow on a cooler note in the north. It will be a bit brighter as well with sunny spells and one or two showers. For northern ireland, scotland and Northern England. For much of england and wales, a cloudy start with outbreaks of rain. It will brighten up with sunny spells, but in the north we will see more in the way of cloud pushing in as our next weather front brings rain for north west scotland. Temperatures between 11 and 18 celsius. As we move through to tomorrow evening, we will see the rain continue to work its way south and east and that will bring plenty of outbreaks of rain and the win picking up as well. A wet day on wednesday for parts of Northern England and into wales and the south west, but the further south and east you are, seeing more in the way of dry weather and temperatures ata way of dry weather and temperatures at a maximum of 18 celsius. Hello, it is monday, welcome to the programme. Pupils who have been sexually assaulted by fellow pupils are being forced to share classrooms with their attackers.
