For the country post brexit. North korea vows to complete its nuclear programme, as the United States once again warns pyongyang of military action. In sport its go, defoe. Bournemouth have their first points of the season, thanks toJermain Defoes first goal of the season. And stav has got the weather. Good morning, sunday is looking like the better day this weekend. We have more showers and will feel on the chilly side. All the details in about 15 minutes. Thank you. Good morning. First, our main story. Armed police and military personnel are being deployed at key locations across the uk after the Terror Threat level was increased to critical the highest possible level. The hunt for the person behind the Parsons Green attack is continuing. 29 people were injured, with many suffering from burns orfrom being caught in the crush as people fled the station. The raising of the threat level means that the government believes a further terror attack may be imminent. The device went off as a District Line tube train pulled into the overground station at Parsons Green, in south west london, at 8 20 yesterday morning. The bbc understands that the bomb, described as a homemade device, had been fitted with a timer but failed to fully detonate. Lets get the latest report on the situation now from andy moore. Curiosity overcame fear as passengers filmed the device still burning on the floor of the tube. That bag is on fire. Security sources have told the bbc the device used a home made peroxide type explosive very similar to the Manchester Arena bomb. Police said they had a very detailed briefing on the device, but refused to make that information public. They said there were many covert components to their investigation. But what is clear is that there is a major man hunt under way, involving hundreds of Police Officers. The man leading that investigation repeatedly spoke in the plural about suspects and those responsible. I have asked the government ministers earlier on for permission to use members of the military to free up extra police resources. What that gives me and my team is an extra thousand Armed Police Officers largely from Nuclear Constabulary and extra Defence Police who are freed up by being backfilled by soldiers. So called Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it was carried out by a detachment of its soldiers. No one is allowed through here. Initially, the Terror Threat level remained the same but, last night, the Prime Minister confirmed it had been raised to critical, the highest possible level. The joint terrorism Analysis Centre, thats the independent organisation which is responsible for setting the threat level on the basis of available intelligence, has now decided to raise the National Threat level from severe to critical. This means that their assessment is that a further attack may be imminent. The public have been warned that they may see more Police Officers on duty this weekend both armed and unarmed, especially at crowded places and transport hubs. Andy moore, bbc news. Andy is live for us at Parsons Green. Andy, the tube station re opened in the early hours of this morning. Yes, it reopened at 1 30 a m. , the cordon has been lifted, the forensic investigation has finished. The Police Officers behind me, they are there for reassurance and i think we will see Police Officers both on and unarmed at a lot of the transport hubs in london today. You could see passengers at short time ago on the tube, we had a word and one woman, we said, what was it like to travel on the tube today knowing that there could be another attack, another device on the tube . She said, the message from the authorities was to remain calm and vigilant, and that was exactly what she was doing. When you look in the hallway, very small and confined and cramped and you can see why so many people were injured in the crush is hundreds straight to get off that train yesterday. 29 people taken to hospital and eight have now been released. 0vernight, we have had a message from the mayor of london sadiq khan who says london stands together today, as always, we will never let those who look to divide is when, we will never be intimidated or defeated by terrorism. We know there is a major police hunt under way, what the authority saying . We had an update from the assistant commissioner mark rowley last night, he said they were making excellent progress. He said he had been given a detailed briefing on the device, how it operated, how it worked, but he did not share that with the media. There was not a lot of information shared. He said there were hundreds of detectives working on the enquiry and trawling through cctv images, but none of those have been put in the Public Domain and that suggests that possibly the police know who they are looking for and they do not wa nt to they are looking for and they do not want to share that with the general public because that mightjeopardise any ongoing operation. It was very clear that he kept on talking about those responsible, the suspects. That suggests they are not looking for a lone wolf in this attack, they are looking for a number of people. For the moment, thank you. Borisjohnson has set out his vision for what he called the uks glorious future outside the european union. Writing in todays daily telegraph, mrjohnson, also revived the controversial claim that leaving the eu could mean an extra £350 million a week for the nhs. 0ur political correspondent, leila nathoo, is in our london newsroom. It is interesting timing because we have got the Prime Minister heading to italy later this week to talk about brexit. That is right, we are six days away from what was billed as theresa mays big intervention herself and brexit and the process of the brexit negotiations and how she wants them to progress and here we have Boris Johnson, she wants them to progress and here we have borisjohnson, her foreign secretary, setting out what some may see as a bit of a rival vision. A 4,000 word epic in the saturday telegraph setting out his stall really. 0verall, telegraph setting out his stall really. Overall, it is a big piece and he goes back to be stating the case very strongly for brexit and talks about the possibilities for after we leave the eu, talking about investing in infrastructure, technology, cutting taxes. Improving regulations. But i think what will raise eyebrows in some of the specifics that he mentions. He revives this controversial claim that the brexit will mean getting back £350 million a week from brussels and he said it would be a fine thing if that was spent on the nhs. Not quite as far as the promised to spend that £350 million on the nhs during the referendum, but i think people will be surprised that that number is being revisited considering it has been widely discredited in the eyes of many. And many other leavers have distanced themselves from that claim. But borisjohnson themselves from that claim. But Boris Johnson clearly setting out his stall ahead of theresa mays speech potentially hoping to persuade her of the merits of his view and many will read this is a bit of a pitch for a leadership borisjohnson, very bit of a pitch for a leadership Boris Johnson, very much bit of a pitch for a leadership borisjohnson, very much reviving speculation that he wants to be the one in charge. Interesting. Thank you very much. Campaigners are calling for a 50 reduction in air Passenger Duty to boost the uk economy, after britains withdrawal from the european union. The fair tax on flyers group says air tax amounts to an extra £400 million a year for uk passengers. A day after its latest Ballistic Missile launch, north korea has said its final goal is to match the military power of the the United States. Last night, the Un Security Council described yesterdays missile test overjapan as highly provocative, but no further sanctions were imposed. North korea is celebrating another successful test for its Ballistic Missile and dprk was there to congratulate the scientists. He said his aim was to establish a balance of force for the United States so it cannot threaten his country with military action. But on a visit to an airbase near washington, President Trump said the us will never be intimidated. After seeing your capabilities and commitment here today, i am more confident than ever that our options in addressing this threat are both effective and overwhelming. In new york, the Un Security Council discussed the situation for the second time this week. This time, there was no new resolution. 0nly week. This time, there was no new resolution. Only a press statement strongly condemning the Missile Launch and urging compliance with existing sanctions. And russia says the us has to get serious about talks with north korea. But as russia and china urged patience, the us says its running out of time. It wa nts us says its running out of time. It wants an end to north koreas missile and nuclear programmes, but with those programmes making rapid progress, the choices facing World Leaders are becoming more difficult. Gamekeepers have expressed concern at 11,000 farmed salmon escape to the local rivers. They say they have genuine worry about how cross farming could affect wild fish so anybody any area has been told to kill farm salmon if they are caught rather than returning them to the river. The american actor harry dean stanton, known for his roles in the godfather part two, alien, and twin peaks, has died at the age of 91. He appeared in over 100 films and tv shows over six decades, and was well known in hollywood circles for his showbiz lifestyle. His most recent film, lucky, is due to be released later this month. Back to our main story. 0ur reporter dan freedman is at new Scotland Yard for us this morning. We had a number of updates yesterday, bring us up to date. Assista nt yesterday, bring us up to date. Assistant commissioner mark rowley says they are making excellent progress, but there has not been an arrest as yet and that is why it is widely thought that the Terror Threat level has gone from severe, the critical, meaning an attack might be imminent. We saw that in the wake of the manchester bomb when 22 people were blown up at the Manchester Arena in may. It stayed at the highest level for a week before Security Services and the police were confident they could bring it down because there was no imminent threat from a Wider Network or other individuals. Similarity in terms of the threat level being raised but abedi was caught up in that situation but somebody has set offa bomb that situation but somebody has set off a bomb and gone on the run so they may have access to other networks, something the police keen to get on top of. That will be the primary concern is the trawled through cctv and examine this device fore nsically through cctv and examine this device forensically and try and establish where this bomber or a network, they we re where this bomber or a network, they were referring to bomb us in the pleural, suggesting there might be more people than just the one who planted this device. In terms of what you will see across the weekend, we know that mark rowley has asked for increased resources, getting military officers to backfill, to allow armed police from the Nuclear Constabulary and the minister of defence to go out on the streets both armed and norms, covertly a nd streets both armed and norms, covertly and over league across transport hubs, the focus particularly on the capital which has seen four terror attacks this year. Thank you for the moment, and we will keep you up to date throughout the morning. Youre watching breakfast from bbc news. The main stories this morning the uk Terror Threat has been increased to its highest level, after the Parsons Green tube attack in south west london. A bit topsy turvy, it is getting cold at night and then sunshine during the day makes it during the day makes it seem a lot better. Thatis that is right, it is cold for the time of the year and the nights are chilly. Things looking warmer towards next week thanks to the south westerly winds. Good spells of sunshine across the country, the detry central areas, but there are showers across parts of wales. Most of the showers along the coast at the moment generated by this area of low pressure which is pulling away. This area of High Pressure will nudge and from sunday onwards to settle things down. We have some showers around the Channel Islands across western and eastern coastal areas, the central size of the country, it lovely morning. Quite cool country, it lovely morning. Quite cool, mist and fog clears away. Some sunshine in the northern parts of england and central and southern scotland, but the clouds thicken across Northern Ireland and across northern and western scotland. A weather front sinking south so getting more pleural belonged rain as the morning continues. Elsewhere, showers develop late morning onwards. Sunshine here and showers. For the north, for much of North Western scotland, Northern Ireland and in the wales in the south west, this weather front brings a wet day and we could see quite a bit of rain across the south west of england. So a disappointing end to the day and it is cruel, 12 16d, not particularly nice when the rain showers arrived. Staying wet for a good part of the night. Elsewhere, it turns dry with clear skies and light winds, it is going to be chilly. These are the towns and cities. In the countryside, low single figures and a touch of frost in northern areas. Sunday starts chilly with mist and fog which lives through the morning. But a better day with High Pressure bringing lengthy fine and sunny spells, a couple of showers but a much better day across western areas. And a touch warmer because the winds will be 70 90d. We hold onto this fine weather on monday and tuesday before things turn wet midweek, but warmer towards next week. Thank you very much, not looking forward to tonight if it is cold. I am back here tomorrow as well. Frost overnight. Three years ago, prince harry founded the Invictus Games an International Sports event for wounded servicemen and women. And next week, 90 competitors the uks biggest team yet will take part in the games in canada. Pa ralympian steve brown, a former wheelchair rugby captain, has been to meet one athlete whos determined not to let his injuries define his life. That was the vehicle where i was on patrol and obviously, i was found 20 or 30 feet away, face down. With the amount of injuries that i had. With the amount of injuries that i had. But life goes on. Stuart robinson graduated from the raf one day after his 18th birthday. He proudly served his country in Northern Ireland, iraq and afghanistan. However, stuarts life was changed forever when his vehicle drove over an improvised explosive device, or ied, while on a routine patrol near camp bastion in Helmand Province in 2013. My only overriding memory of that whole time was the fact that because i could open my eyes and because i was still seeing, i was alive. And that moment when your wife and yourself locked eyes, it must have been quite a moment for her, as much as you . Even though when she saw me for the first time in hospital, despite the number of injuries and limbs that i was missing at the time, she knew it was me. I managed to get out of hospital, i am walking about, and now trying to get involved in sport and using the Invictus Games as a massive tool to getting on that road. Its a process i know well. After i was injured 13 years ago, i was introduced to wheelchair rugby and captained the Gb Paralympic Team in london 2012. Its crazy to think that you watched me play in 2012 as captain and now youre the Invictus Games captain, going on for your second captaincy as well. If only wed known back then what happened, yeah, but it was great to watch you guys play and obviously maybe subconsciously, i might have kick started that fire to play the sport and just difficult circumstances led to playing. More than 300 people applied to join the uk squad. Thats the biggest number since prince harry founded the games in 2014. I think 2014 was a really exciting opportunity. We had no idea what invictus was going to be, what the outcomes would be and how it was going to grow, and what have seen over the last three years is such a public appetite for what we are doing and such an interest from the guys and girls and a really positive recovery impact. Stuart was part of the team which won bronze last year in orlando. Now he has the chance to serve his country again and he wants to do even better. That was wheelchair rugby pa ralympian steve brown reporting for breakfast and you can catch coverage of the games when it begins next sunday, on bbc one. Youre watching breakfast from bbc news. Time now for a look at the newspapers. Anne longfield, childrens commissioner for england, good morning. First, lets look at the front pages. 0ne story very much dominating this morning. The daily mail. Looking at issues around yesterdays terror attacks, specifically where the information comes from in connection with bomb building and suggesting some against net companies, the information is too readily available. The sun also covering the story and talking about a potential second bomb and they sayjihadist talking about a potential second bomb and they say jihadist terrorist was last night appeared to be planning to strike with a second device. The guardian reporting from yesterday evening the Terror Threat raised the critical. That means that the authorities believe that an attack may be imminent. We will talk more about that throughout the programme. The times going with a different the private sector to secretary to the queen, saying a power struggle is going on between Buckingham Palace and the prince of wales. And the telegraph which is where we will. This morning, an exclusive, borisjohnson is writing in the daily telegraph. He is setting out in 4,000 words, so a long piece, what it will be like after brexit. That is the big vision. With this, the size of the peace. Am struggling to open it, to be honest it made me think it is poster size, as in billboard size. 4,000 words is no small piece. It is the start of the Party Conference season so there is much speculation about why this is now. But the vision for brexit. Myjob is all about children and young people and they have a particular view around brexit and what that means, the uncertainty is a big thing, they hate it. There are eu national is thought they were here for keeps and they just need somebody thought they were here for keeps and theyjust need somebody to make up their minds. Im holding up the paperas their minds. Im holding up the paper as best i can the telegraph has highlighted the battle bus and that pledge he has gone back to, linking the £350 million some to the nhs. I guess that is an attempt to bring it back to domestic things and brexit cannot be the only thing that dominates thinking, the country needs a lot of intervention and domestic fronts. I assume that is pa rt domestic fronts. I assume that is part of that move that something is needed. It will cause arguments, that 350 million figure again. Yes, that 350 million figure again. Yes, thatis that 350 million figure again. Yes, that is not a move that will go unnoticed. Social media is a big pa rt unnoticed. Social media is a big part of the work you look at and you picked this story. I had to pick this, it is something any parent knows. It is interesting to see that, that we know that this is saying that children are offering a sanitised version of their lives on facebook. They call their parents. So we know a lot of parents run facebook. Parents have been asking children to be their friend on facebook and there was resistance from this. Children have now given them and they offer a version of their lives which parents can feel they get enough from but really, the action is on other social media. That is interesting and that is quite clever. A lot of my work is about raising not only concerned about raising not only concerned about social Media Companies doing more to make sure it is a positive place for children to be online but children needed more help to be resilient online. It is a fact of life, but it is something we need to look at. Yes, children have always hidden things from their parents and this is just the hidden things from their parents and this isjust the new hidden things from their parents and this is just the new incarnation of that with technology as the avenue through which that is done. Yes, every pa rent through which that is done. Yes, every parent will know because they have a conversation with their children about, what is instagram . You dont need to know that, you know about facebook. But the instagram and the snapchat, that is what the parents need to keep asked about. I downloaded snapchat to try and work out how to use it. And i intend to find a young person to tell me how to do that. It is a dilemma because there is a point at which commit is it always the right thing for parents to know everything about their childrens thing for parents to know everything about their child rens lives . Thing for parents to know everything about their childrens lives . Space is good and you have to give your children space to have time without even and have their own environment. But given that this is notjust space, it is virtually another community, so it is good for parents to keep in touch. When parents turn up to keep in touch. When parents turn up in that community, they will go to another place. Clearly, that is the problem. Happy places to live, i a lwa ys the problem. Happy places to live, i always wonder about these surveys. I hate them, people always combat andi i hate them, people always combat and i always think it is really rude to say that column in bottom. This is the list. This is a little bit flimsy, how many at times they have had happy. Brighton is the happiest place and edinburgh, which is very surprising, at the bottom. The weather plays a part in this and the weather has not been great in the weather has not been great in the north. The views and how we discuss this is interesting. For instance, for many years, hull has been described as a bad place to live or a place where there is not much going on and now it is the city of culture. It is frustrating we do not hear all this. Number one is bright and beat off competition from leicester and portsmouth, rich 0xford, norwich and bristol in the top ten. Manchester, belfast and cardiff taking high positions. But edinburgh came out very bad. Very strange because we think positive things about edinburgh. I think it is about the weather, it must be. And also, people live in these places. I have been to hull loads and it is a great place, it is mean to say it is not a happy place. There are not on the bottom in this one. You will be back in one hour, we will see you then, thank you. Coming up in the next hour. What is wrong with him . He does that now when he eats ham the comedian rob beckett has been telling us how moving back home in his twenties provided plenty of material for his new sitcom. Headlines coming up. Hello, this is breakfast with Charlie Stayt and steph mcgovern. Coming up before nine, stav will have the weekends weather for you. But first at 08 30, a summary of this mornings main news. Armed police and military personnel will be at key locations across the uk, after the Terror Threat alert was raised to critical the highest possible level in the wake of yesterdays Parsons Green bomb attack. That means the government believes a further terror attack may be imminent. Lets talk now to the security minister ben wallace. Good morning to you. Can you tell us, first of all, why the threat level have been increased to critical . Yes, we got a recommendation from the joint terrorist Analysis Centre, an independent body hosted by the security service, which analyses intelligence and the progress of the investigation. It was felt that after the events yesterday morning, as the day progressed, that an attack was likely, or imminent, in the sense that we havent been able, at the moment, to catch the bomber. The bomber, or bombers, is still out there. We need to get at the bottom of that, follow up leads and hopefully get coverage on the entire situation and when that happens, thatis situation and when that happens, that is when the Analysis Centre will look again. That is why we do it, people need to be alert. Clearly these people who tried the attack yesterday are at large. It means that we should make sure, if you see anything suspicious, dial 999 or the Counter Terrorism hotline number, oh 800, 789, three to attack happened at 20 past eight in the morning, you we re at 20 past eight in the morning, you were ina at 20 past eight in the morning, you were in a cobra meeting at 2pm and at 8pm, the threat level was raised to critical, what changed in those hours . Its about the progress of the situation. We look at what other services are concerned about and whether they respond to that attack. We saw at westminster bridge, other people were inspired to carry out further attacks, we saw quick arrests after that and we had to bury mind those factors and the things that we do not know, the things that we do not know, the things that we are busy right now trying to find out. We keep it under review, it isnt ready for politicians to get involved. We do not interfere with the threat that with the threat level, we should not manipulated or anything else. But at certain times of the day, they will present findings or make a case for the threat level to be raised and if he needs to be raised, it is. Thats why that happens. There was a tweet by us President Donald Trump yesterday, saying it was a loser terrorist in the sights of scotla nd was a loser terrorist in the sights of Scotland Yard. What do you make of Scotland Yard. What do you make of that weed . The Prime Minister is quite right, it is never a good thing of that tweet. It is never a good thing to comment on rolling investigations, step back from the professionals doing a job. I think it was not the greatest or most helpful tweet but looking at least a minute later on, it was much more helpful, him basically saying it was an interNational Threat, we all face an interNational Threat, we all face a threat from terrorism, france, germany, britain and america and we all pull together to do something about it. We share that sentiment and thats what the Prime Minister does next. Lets not forget that the usa, asa does next. Lets not forget that the usa, as a country, and intelligence professionals absolutely help britain to stay safe every single day and not only in terrorists but areas like child pornography and everything else, the sharing in Crime Fighting is deep and helpful and that goes with our european partners, in france and germany. We will continue to share information with the usa, given its the second time that the us president , as you put it, has put out an unhelpful tweet. Whatever we have to do to keep uk citizens safe, if it with one of our oldest allies, and our closest friend, we will do that. Every day, i see intelligence that they share with us which helps us to catch bad people, and keep us safe. We do the same for them and the french, and spanish and germans, everything else. Thats how we get these people. By collaboration. There is no desire to stop that at all. Given what donald trump did say, is there a reason to believe that the attacker was known to Intelligence Services . that the attacker was known to Intelligence Services . I will not comment on that, enquiries are ongoing, i would comment on that, enquiries are ongoing, iwould be comment on that, enquiries are ongoing, i would be making an unhelpful comment on the police investigation, as we pointed out about his earlier tweet. The reality is we need to let professionals do their job, is we need to let professionals do theirjob, we are here as the government to support them if they request more authorisation is, like putting the military out or if they request. We are there to do the job, if they need more resources sitting behind them, the home secretary and i. Behind them, the home secretary and i, the Prime Minister, as this pans out. I will not comment on the individual parts of the investigation. Given we have had five terror attacks in the space of the year, are you concerned things are getting worse for the uk . |j the year, are you concerned things are getting worse for the uk . I am, the head of s0 15, and mark rowley, and the dg of m15, the tempo is at a level we havent seen for a long time. There are 600 lives investigations covering over 3000 people and another group of 20,000 people and another group of 20,000 people we are concerned about. We have a lot of people trying to do harm to this country either from syria, or inspired from syria and is but alqaeda hasnt gone away, nor the threat of republicanism. Dis republicanism. I am concerned, the government has increased counterterrorism funding by 30 across government and we give nearly £707 million to Police Counterterrorism and we invent in prevent programmes, persuading people not to follow this path. Ben wallace, the security minister, thank you. Lets have a look at the other news this morning. A day after its latest test firing of a Ballistic Missile, north koreas leader kimjong un has said his goal is to match the military power of the United States. The United NationsSecurity Council described the missile test over japan as highly provocative. Washington has again warned pyongyang of military action if current sanctions dont work. But russia and china say diplomacy is the only solution. Borisjohnson has set out his vision for the uks glorious future outside the eu, he calls it. He campaigned for brexit and said that leaving the eu could save about £350 million a week which could be spent on the nhs. They come six days before the Prime Minister gives a major brexit speech in the italian city of florence. The pound has reached its highest level against the dollar since we voted to leave the eu. Sterling climbed after a senior bank of england official indicated that there could soon be a rise in interest rates. The pound also went up against the euro. A woman injamaica whos believed to have been the oldest person in the world has died at the age of 117. Violet brown was born on march 10th, 1900, and said the secret to her long life was to eat everything except pork and chicken and not to drink rum. Here she is receiving an award from the jamaican Prime Minister. The oldest person in the world is now believed to be nabi tajima from japan, who is also 117. Its remarkable. 117, you cannot imagine it. Born in 1900 . The stories she must have had. What do you have for us, mike . A sigh of relief for bournemouth, they are finally up and running after a bad start to the season. It was a really important win for bournemouth. It looked as though they were heading for a fifth Straight Defeat in the premier league, when they went behind at home to brighton but defoe gave them their first points of the season. Theyre still at the wrong end of the table, of course, but its a start. A lot of different emotions, and relief is the biggest one. Got to be honest when you start the season, you want to first win, ideally in the first game if not the second game and its taken us longer than we wanted. We had tough fixtures, we are aware of that so today is really important and the real achievement from the players is to go 1 0 down the start that we had to respond in a manner that we did was very special. So dan, who is here with us ahead of football focus, thatjust leaves Crystal Palace as the only pointless premier league club. Exactly, it was an important win for bournemouth, Jermain Defoe proving that hes a lethal finisher again. Crystal palace have a new manager, roy hodgson, we will talk about him on the programme again. And proper soiree, almost a year ago, he was involved in a serious car accident, it nearly snapped his leg. Almost a year on he returns to the first team. We will talk to him, but coming back from injury and him fearing his career was over at some stage. Is that a technical medical term . Maybe a broken leg. . Whats more acceptable . It was a horrible injury but the good news he is on his way back. Snap or break, he is on his way back. Also, the newcastle captain scored an important win for the team over swansea, lascelles talks about the importance of family and what makes him tick, as the 22 year old captain of newcastle, hes really highly rated. Theyve always been tough on me, my father would make me do 20 press ups a night from 13 or 14, they are my parents, they know what is best. Im a young kid and even now, you see a lot of kids now with a lot of talent. And the world at their feet. Because they havent had the guidance and somebody telling them what to do or what not to do from a young age, they have fallen off it. Although it can be hard for teenagers, always listen axel teenagers, always listen do although it can be hard for teenagers, always listen do they listen, mike . Not to me do you do 20 press ups a day . 25 every morning, yes. Itry 20 press ups a day . 25 every morning, yes. I try and do 100 today. We are getting off the point this is very impressive so yes, lascelles. Are you this is very impressive so yes, lascelles. Are you having a laugh . If you do 25 at different points of the day. But hang on, how does it break down . 25 breakfast, lunch time, evening and before bed. Do you ever do it . Yes, three or four times a week. What time do you get up for this programme . About four oclock. So straightaway . Even before i have a wash, ora so straightaway . Even before i have a wash, or a show. What an insight i suppose we have to accept that its true. Its really good for the tour so, i needed a lot of work on that at my age you completely distracted me from talking about what is on football focus. Charlton are doing well in league 1, a controversial owner but Carl Robinson is the manager. Some familiarfaces robinson is the manager. Some familiar faces and some robinson is the manager. Some familiarfaces and some big games this week, chelsea, arsenal, Manchester United and everton, alex scott will be talking about the recent controversy surrounding mark sampson as womens manager. They start their World Cup Qualifying Campaign next tuesday. A pertinent time to be talking about it and pertinent time to be talking about itand im pertinent time to be talking about it and im sure at some point we will have two mention mikes 25 press ups before breakfast. And it might help with the wrestling. There is a shot of your toes in it. They are footballers toes. What does that mean . Too much wear and tear there are people eating their brea kfast in scotland, rangers stand in skipper, Graham Dorrans came to their rescue. With his toes. He took the captains armband, when lee wallace, was injured early in the game and his goal gave them, a 2 2 draw at patrick thistle. That takes them up to third in the table. You could listen to him all day, and inspiring motivational speaker. We did not mention what im football focus was on. Midday today. I hung around to tell you that and watch the toe wrestling if you are like steph and dan, and you are eating breakfast, and you do not like toes. Look away now we are talking about the 14 time world champion, recognised across the world. Alan nash was recently crowned champion for the 14th time, and i went to meet him. 0na on a factory floor in stoke, still cap on a factory floor in stoke, still ca p safety on a factory floor in stoke, still cap safety boots protect a sporting dynasty by day. But as soon as he clocks off, alan nash can unleash his toe curling arsenal, the feet of fury which are renowned and feared around the world. Funky music grandad allen recently won the world toe wrestling championship for the 14th time. As a result, he has travelled top to toe across the world, whether a toe down is shown across the world, their reward for the daily gruelling training regime which starts at home. The thing about this, it stretches skin between the toes. I train all round the year. Im no good at other sports but at this im best at the world. The main supporters your arms and the core. If you keep your arms and the core. If you keep your arms and shoulders powerful, it gives you the edge over everybody else. |j never thought so much power would come from your arms and shoulders, through the core and three or legs, right down to those big toes. After you had your fees cleaned and inspected and you are on the toedium, you try and force the opponenfs toedium, you try and force the opponents foot off the wall. And it can last an hour. I have to try and keep the defensive leg straight. Put up some resistance. He is looking at my eyes. As soon as i go like this. There we go washed the feet all the time but also the eyes and the persons expression. Toe wrestling was invented by three guys in a derbyshire pub act in the 19705. They really wanted to find a sport where the uk would become world champions. The trouble is, one year later, a canadian came and won it. But you can see what it means ever since. It is a quintessential, bonkers english game that only the british could ever invent or play. At first it is embarrassing because people are like, what is toe wrestling . But i should be proud, i5 the championship. But even becky had her work cut out when she went toe to toe with the new world junior champion. Is nice that youve won something, it makes you happy. Make someone pull your toes. Does that make you stronger . Yes like most sports, athletes but isnt welcome but it takes an awful lot of leg pulling to make a champion on the toedium. 0k, ok, you can look again if you are squeamish about toes. Thats tricky with a dress on, but she might want to wear something different. Trousers are surely essential . I think if she goes for the world title next year. The outfit needs a rethink it was improvisation, i think shejust got a rethink it was improvisation, i think she just got the bug to have a go is not the sort of thing you wa nt go is not the sort of thing you want to do with doubts. Time for a look at the weather now. Good morning, it is going to be a wet day today, and cool as well. These showers are easing as the weekend goes on. Sunday will be the better of the two as High Pressure comes in. More in the way of sunny spells, at night it will be chilly. Showers across the country in western and eastern parts of the uk. Central areas are starting fine with some sunshine. Low pressure starting fine with some sunshine. Low pressure brings in showers again and northerly winds. This area of High Pressure in. We have showers stroked across western and eastern coasts this morning. The best of the sun shone through central parts, a chilly start with fog clearing away. Some sunshine across Northern England and into southern scotland. Some sunshine in eastern parts of Northern Ireland but generally, conditions go downhill across the northern and western half of scotland, and in towards Northern Ireland. This weather front sinks southwards, turning wetter for scotland, and this feature runs into wales and south west england. Its going to turn miserable and wet towards the afternoon. Elsewhere, the sunshine will be blotted out by bubbling powder in showers. There will be sunny spells between. Disappointing temperatures of 1216d, it will disappointing temperatures of 12 16d, it will feel cool. And then this evening, for the first part of the night, wet in the south west corner, gradually easing. Elsewhere, the skies are clearing. Its going to turn chilly. Town and city values in the countryside are close to freezing. Even temperatures with grass frosts in places. It promises to bea grass frosts in places. It promises to be a dry and bright day for most, especially west scotland, Northern Ireland, wales and the south west. Showers developing the afternoon, but there will be far fewer than today. Because of light winds and more sunshine, it should feel maybe 19 degrees. Its looking good into monday and tuesday, feeling warmer and picking up points from the south west. A mild night. Back to you too. , speak to you later. Older people who buy a specially built retirement flat can find it difficult to pay for their care if they need to go into a nursing home. Thats because, as we reported last week, these flats often sell for less than they were bought for leaving their owners with less cash than they expected to pay for care. Paul lewis from radio 4s moneybox has been looking into this. Hes in our london newsroom. I know you told us about this last week. Can you remind us about how the value can form . The value can plummet in some places. Last week we re we we re plummet in some places. Last week were we were in north east england, now we are in south west, this lady bought a one bedroom flat for £166,000. She tried to sell it when she had to go into care, two years ago. She tried to sell it for £120,000, and then put it on the market that nobody would buy it. Now it is £105,000. It still hasnt solved, two years later. It really has plummeted from 166000 and when she bought it, it was not cheap. She sold a three bedroom house and had to get more money to buy a one bedroom flat. In the mccarthy and stone development. And that can bea and stone development. And that can be a worry, because it is to pay for care . It is worse, if you have an asset like an empty home, its taken into account and the local authority would not normally give you any help towards your care. But because of new rules that came in a while ago, she can go to the council and say, look, lent me the money and i will pay yu look, lent me the money and i will pay you back when the house has been sold. The Somerset Council would only lend her £80,000. This is on a property she paid more than 44. At £800 a week, that is what she is playing in the care home, that money has gone after two years, £40,000 a year, £80,000. Now shes in a position where the council say that they cannot lend her more money against the property and keep her in the home. They will have too many of her somewhere else. She is very unhappy about that. To move her somewhere else. And why, they do more . They say that they are the rules, they can only lend money they can get back and £80,000 is what they think they are guaranteed to get back. You are entitled to keep a bid about yourself, they are saying that they cannot pay £800 a week, they will have to move her somewhere cheaper. And is there something that people can do if they are worried about this . They should look carefully at terms and conditions, look at the price and comparing two other properties in the area, normal non retirement homes, look at the Service Charges. Jackie pays £200,000 a year £2000 a year in Service Charges that she isnt getting any service from. Mccarthy and stone who did the development said that most of the homes sell for more than was paid for them. They help people to sell their home if they had to sell it. They also say people generally are happy in their properties. Paul, thank you. More on that story on radio for later, money box is on at noon. Hes known on the comedy circuit as the mouth of the south and rob becketts ability to make people laugh means hes no stranger to prime time telly. Idida i did a panel show with him once, he isa i did a panel show with him once, he is a hoot. His new sitcom, based loosely on his own life, sees his character move into his parents caravan after packing in a topjob in london. Hes turning his hand to acting. Rob is here now. The agony ofafamily of a family dinner i know, its a nightmare. That was weirdly to accurate for what it was like for me to go back home. Its strange watching yourself back. Is it not comfortable . Not really, you pick out all of the bad bits. The whole point is, it was derived from something that you found yourself doing. Going back home. It was based on my experience, me having to move backin on my experience, me having to move back in with my parents. Ive been there 30 years, i moved back in in real life, but in this they have moved into a caravan park in margate to make it more intense. Alison steadman plays my mum, a national treasure. And my dad, hes arguably the best actor of all time. Hes incredible. I cannot be the only person thinking he looks like you. To the point where i had serious questions for my mum she was a big quadriplegia fan in the days he looks more like my dad than my dad a lot of people are familiar with moving back home roger. Its a common theme in a lot of homes. A lot of people had to move back, even if they are successful, especially in london, in the sitcom i think especially in london, in the sitcom ithink im especially in london, in the sitcom i think im going back to london that they sell the family home, which is why im in margate. No, on the first day on set, i was like, dont act at me bert i think ive learned more in rehearsals than i would have done that three years at drama school is incredible. And you have an act, you make a lot of stuff up as you are going along. I assume that in a sitcom, youve got a script . Going along. I assume that in a sitcom, youve got a script . It was tricky at the start. I wanted to improvise but you cant, its unfair on other actors. I had to bring myself in the tycho wrote it with sean pike, and buti myself in the tycho wrote it with sean pike, and but i wrote it with sean pike. People get a laugh from the joke that you have written. You can really enjoy it. You get so stressed about the delivery of it, you do not enjoy it but when someone else says it, you enjoy it. This is an idea that you came up with, or did somebody whisper in your ears saying, have you thought about doing an acting or sitcom kind of thing . Ive spoken about my parents and family in my stand up. I wanted to make this sitcom about them. We did so many caravan parks as kids, i wa nted so many caravan parks as kids, i wanted to make a warm and funny show. Almost a love letter to the working class. Theres a lot of stuff about the working class on television which. Like shameless, is the far end of what it is like. 0ther is the far end of what it is like. Other people are normal, they get on with it. Not so shocking. I wanted to make normality funny. Have your family scene it . Yes, my mum and dad watched it, they love it but most of all, its all true, everything happened in real life. It may not have been to my mum and dad but it may have been aunts and uncles, friends, parents. Isoaked it up like a sponge, and channelled it through them both. They are my mum and dad but a hugely exaggerated version. Its not a biopic by any means. Thank you. Rob was here yesterday so we spoke to him then and stephanie was not here. That explains it. If you missed his new show, you can watch it on the bbc iplayer. We will have the Ongoing Police investigation into yesterdays attack.
