Radio. Thank you good morning. B.b.c. Radio Merseyside driving in this morning really cloudy and saw a real kind of lie. In red in the distance oh well that doesn't look good and skies will quickly cloud over this morning outbreaks of rain will start to move in from the west those winds will strengthen into the afternoon right across little Merseyside into Cheshire as well it's going to feel a lot cooler than it has over the past few days particularly with that wind breeze that's going to blow as well there will be some dry spells at times but it will stay on the cloud besides just going to be one of those one of those days today 21 degrees Celsius 17 Fahrenheit quick travel line for you busy but it is moving it is slow but it is moving traffic on westbound same tolls will street Rathbone road in those never ending rough. Weather online. B.b.c. Radio. Has this thought ever crossed your mind who's going to look after me when I get a little bit older. The reason we're talking about this worrying new figures this morning suggest that by the end of next year they'll be a big shortage of home places difficult enough now to try to find places but it seems to be getting worse and that's expected to grow over the next 10 years as well when to put some figures on that we'll talk more about in a few minutes time and get away on holiday something that most of us take for granted you may have already been away you may be looking for a holiday in a few weeks time but it's not easy for people who are full time carer is to just say she we need p.s.u. We need their it's not as simple as that but there's a special scheme here on Merseyside that ensures carers can get a break all reports are generally Somas has been to meet one couple offering respite holiday so we're going to head from there just before half past stay with me in the b.b.c. Radio and there's the. Rub. Who's awake it's like an early Surely if you like will do here is the ending what's the song and if somebody manages to get it will play the song about 5 minutes time so he's the ending what is the song. Like that Ok 70993 double 3 The ending was a song. You did alright with it Monday Tuesday let's see how we do on a Wednesday one more. Before 7 o 9133 station. Radio. Now up to 3000 elderly people won't be able to get beds in care homes because of growing demand by the end of. Next year research commissioned by b.b.c. Radio 4 s you and yours programme has found a huge sure fall in the number of beds available now the information from property consultants j l l suggests that in 9 years time is short for could be more than $70000.00 beds based on expected growth of demand and also the research shows that a present $7000.00 new beds are made available every year but demand is twice that so you can see where the figures are going to go here so what's it like for those with family who are in care homes will some care because Nan Jean is in home view care home and the local council told them in June but we're going to close it because it's just too expensive for them to mend sane and Sam explains Nan is a little bit worried a few 1000 father cry in and saying there are this isn't of a bad tree and so she has got some realisation of moves going to happen as of yet we aren't really British subjects until we found the next place for to move into well in Meadows is an associate director in the health care team of property consultants j l l which carried out the research joins me now Amun morning to you what do you think we're heading to move forward with such a short fall of it seems like there's a perfect storm brewing here yes I mean it can on the face of it can be quite worrying because. Over the next 2 years we're predicting a shortfall of up to 3000 birds and this is based on the aging population. Over the next 20 years they'll be another 1700000 equal. Rights and once you get past the prevalence rates of dementia is around one in 3 so when people reach that age they become more frail and they have a greater Mencia. They have no choice but to make a move into a home which quite necessary supports around 24 hours why we building. Fewer care homes we hear more and more. Homes closing this must be in the cold like today from an accountant's point of view it's not as much money in it is it as simple as that and I think there's a lot of certainly from an investor's perspective there's lots of let's look and there's lots of interest and lots of demand for the sector I think where we're reaching a tipping point in the u.k. Where historically build rates have been around 7000 beds year but because of that greatly increased number of 85 year olds over the next 20 years we're predicting an increase demand around $14000.00 new beds on average per year and that's something equivalent to the size of the town of West Kirby each year and so there needs to be more to incentivize and encourage investment and development of new services many people worry that their life savings their property the things that they've worked for and loved and cherished seen the children grow up in these houses as well will be sold in order to pay for their care leaving nothing for their families also what about those who don't have the money or the assets to form a care what what's going to happen to those people who say you know it's really important point and I don't know if you're aware but the competition in markets also works is currently on staking a year long study into the care home markets and how fees are calculated and that's ensuring that they make recommendations at the end of this year which will actually feed into the government green paper put the social care funding model onto a more trips fair transparent and sustainable setting. I'm just finally a man well where do we go from me a what should we be doing to prevent this from from happening because we've got a little bit of time here might. We do have some time with this shortfall here is an extra thousands well I need 3000 in the next 2 years but if we do not do more what's your encourage planning and actually letting local authorities and sense of always promotes and encourage states by them it's new this valuable social infrastructure I think in 10 years time could be an even greater problem than we're suggesting in the next 2 years I mean we'll leave it there but thankfully time this money there's a meadows an associate director in the health care team a property consultancy j l l which carried out the research and he's only on the program 12 minutes past 7 How did you get on with this one. a little bit I'm loving these great guitar endings this way well we'll do another 1 in the morning. Side on a bit of a Wednesday morning the headlines the presidents of the prison Governors Association has written an open letter criticizing the government's management of its jails in England and Wales and the teenager is due in court later charged with the manslaughter of a pensioner who was attacked in St Helens and research suggests more than a 1000000 women in the early sixty's a worse off financially as a result of the increase in the state pension age. Played last night came on and scored and then almost immediately picked up a Liverpool fan not again well Liverpool be by Munich 3 male in the latest pre-season friendly last night so. Really I didn't see the whole game play myself and came out in the same game was always like the last minute and a bit of a fight and. Thought No if you can have a fight all through the game. You know. Doping in athletics must stop or the sport will die cancel the travelling. B.b.c. Radio. Well we've just got some slow traffic on actually drive on a surprisingly westbound That's an awful story and it's the road. The lane closure which is slow when you write down yet again motorways seem to be off to in or out start so far this morning so it's just. Borrowed in their head as well want to look out for their traffic so a little bit slow travelling into town just before that's the border Road flyover on the a 58 Liverpool Road that same passion to make you feel we have got some heavy traffic there already this morning on road Millfield lane Aston cross again it's road works the traffic lights which are in operation there seem to be catching you out this morning as well but the wrong call with this bridge off to a great start doing fine for the time being I'm no issues on you or your trains either but of course if you know otherwise and you can date please do call us as long as it's safe and it's legal the number to ring 151-794-0953 b.b.c. Radio travel every now and again come back Donald I get a phone call from Northwestern program on the phone call goes like this listen the problem. Is really changing Phil and we've asked everybody you know. Give it a little go so Joy was yesterday and I never thought I would have to be in an archaeological trench with a trial with a pair of boots on the pedal. Or did you feel like it. Honestly it was brilliance big. Because it was like I mean why wouldn't it was like an archaeological dig that you see on the time team but you don't ever see they haven't real life here a life I thought oh this is me this will put it was there and they took it all out and they did out which string and they have those those poles are red and white to give you scale and. I was with a lady called Margaret in the trench. And she had a trial and I did trial she knew what she was doing this is a castle by the way fabulous it's going to be on the telly in September and they found 2 Schelling tins not skeletons to scaling with a. Couple of years ago and they thought they were going to be more moderates like this. And she's going. Yeah. That's a rabbit. Ok I think. That's a diamond of the over that wasn't but I was just fascinated with the things that they found bits of pottery and she's gone yeah that's probably about $500.00. Straightaway and I'm thinking this is just a lot of soil you know what it was actually give you the trial then yeah you were involved Yeah but you know they found a best tooth a brown bear. And I said not when I was there yesterday by I said well what's the score with this and they said well they used to do bear baiting these take the bears into the towns in the villages in the hamlets and they'd burb in the most a kind of a skate or wandered off and made its way up the hill and then just down I. Believe that's incredible you know and so you can see on the telly in September. I'm really impressed and I share everything I. Can where those nice shoes and the phonetics I don't care where the from get the boots on so it was good so yeah I was really really interesting of course with it being the tele it's going to be a 10 minute piece but it took 4 we. God bless that selling. Your voice your story I'd like to talk about my son. Of a chief even if. He was 40 when he came out no problem after we get everything that you really always knew we always knew he would like to make you say your son is very lucky to have parents like you not to allow I now see that mom and I break fortunes for to pay if you know mom and dad don't want to make the house anymore go . On Change your wife that's a long time thrown in with the wonderful it's weekdays to 12 and 2 to hear that call and you can hear on judgement day today on b.b.c. Radio miss the site now from a Raja to Robin Robin Island is with us director of research at food active always good to see you welcome along with the front pages morning Him only time well I was one who was so unusual in the middle of well there will be a mid-level this is the beginning of August I'm already talking myself half way through the month. Interesting to see gas prices and how that's being covered by 3 different newspapers who are on the front page but a slightly different angle so unfortunately the latest of the Big 6 of announced a price rise of British Gas 12.5 percent rise the Guardian has a sort of 30 so you take on it and it's the firms who warned the price cap after 12.5 percent British Gas rise that idea mirror shameless British Gas is hiking electricity bills by 12.5 percent despite its boss seeing con admitting the wholesale cost of fuel and you go and so on you discover Mr Khan is being paid a package of something like 4000000 quid a year or something like that so yeah that was I mean numeration was in it and it's easy to say and I've heard this over the last couple of days since this news broke yesterday since it will just move to another company just move just switch if you will remain debt. To complete your with at the moment you can rightly so you may own up to 300 quid lost you a little bit with the payments you can't move then no that's actually a really good point and you're right also to cite I for some people moving is obviously an option and the Daily Mirror just doesn't like that up some people yes absolutely you can get some decent terrace the days Telegraph has a completely different take on it and it's more or less quoting industry and putting the industry perspective they Telegraph says green tax as $150.00 pound home energy bill but and they're saying you know the editorial in there says their opinion pieces is not for government to cap prices but I frankly believe that we do have to have some kind of control over Didn't they say in the manifesto well you're doing something about it well you know we're going to do this we're going to look at doing something and looking at some depleting different his name well you're absolutely right and you also write to make the point about the inequality as a result because you know again it's always a push to get hit hardest and you know you've got to pay for your energy happening so that's that's a really quite scary for some period particularly if you're in debt but yeah it is interesting to see a completely different taken very different papers but outside of that there is a there's a complete going to stuff I mean the Guardian again on a very sobering story really main headline is revealed tycoon Jonah 1652 homes in a ground floor area I've had no we haven't got London might still have very own Sure plenty of people going to London every now and then and the conspicuous wealth in contrast to the conspicuous poverty I mean who the hell kind of all are we can see going to fall to live in London actually they don't live there they have an occupied territory occupied properties 1650 to top this is occupied in Kensington and Chelsea include a Ukraine billionaire fighting actually listen to the us a former mayor of New York a luxury property developer and a senior t.v. Executive I wonder how many of these people actually realize that they have these these properties probably don't even know they've got to meet certain investment. They by their organizational order how terribly depressed I'm sure you're absolutely right I hear that little place in one part of your know what we got a couple of flats Mayfair darling I'm not sure did we get rid of them I was not sure. It is I mean I saw the rubbish and it is it's what he and I believe and you're absolutely right you know the the extreme wealth in the extreme poverty in that square mile is all yours incredible the number of people begging it's just it's desperately depressing it's now and that's our capital city the other headline I guess and you can read this and different ways as well the Daily Mail has it it's a big one but it's covered in others as well shambles are you poor holiday make your queue for hours as Brussels imposes top passport checks and British found myself well I'm not because I'm not answer but if people are getting caught in huge queue I actually went through ski pole last week and to be honest it was it was fine but it was probably the time of day and I wasn't coming through Palmer airport which clearly weighs one of those who were singled out it's partly to do with. Security issues and we have to cope with that and also we didn't sign up to showing and which is the free one as the others are going to get treated different it's only going to take you know the 2 minutes but times that by $10000.00 people that's a lot of time isn't it when you got to be proud to May have stopped taking sugar in the coffee hour go merrily every season so you have a misstep while you're trying to take or could indeed. Look at what a full time it was when he felt others wait if you. Come back before I will talk some more of other places Robert thank you b.b.c. Radio. 727 good morning now let's turn to the summer holidays means many of us will be heading off for a well earned rest I'm sure but what about those who are full time care is how do they manage to get a break we'll hear on those he saw there's a scheme called Shared Lives and it gives those in care the opportunity to take a holiday or a. Spy break in the home of another family now this means the person in care has a chance to widen their social experience if you meet new people feel part of another community and see a new place while also giving the family's care is the chance of a bit of a breather as well Paul Bergen and his wife Elaine They live in moved certainly here in Liverpool and they're just one of the family's SUV open up their home for a rest by the holidays great idea this they've been hosting these special guests now for nearly 2 years and Paul explains to Jenny Lee Summers how they got into the scheme. By the way who should live cinnamon and some temporary respite work people this was addressed by from the families and then this is a new idea think about 2 years old now made a project so when we one of the 1st project there and trial it like situation. We 1st was of being everywhere in Liverpool Now last year and the sheer move of the people and new places to find because Jason finds lots of places he's interested in the past you know we here we go in and have a look. And how long do people usually come in it's normally a week but we've had people for 2 weeks. So it depends on the individual you know tell us about some of the people that you have what sort of needs to they have the hall have special learning needs and some of them are living in a home of parents or will carry some selves so most of the physically able and they can move about quite easily. But their response from them you know when somebody comes to the city and they may never get to the city before like Jason they may come back you see them open up a little bit yes it obvious to. Anybody if you go to anybody's house it's a little Bashar you know as if you were for the 1st day a book because Jason's got a great personality and a great sense of humor and a fantastic laugh we have a sense of humor is the same so. On a good note straightaway you know a lot about did you get any training when he started on this journey yes we've done I don't know about 20 training courses online and nationally physical training you know in person so it's not only Chase's getting the experience of coming to a different place on his own and travelling by himself but obviously the people at home they get a little bit of a break and. Gives them a chance to share their family life with the children and family members you know and what about you there what do you get out of it well we obviously get the pleasure of entertaining Jason and Jason and sending those because we're watching different movies and going to different sites so we have a good laugh don't we just push on the bosses. You know go around the city we can start laughing in the military me. Jason Smith from Telford is a repeat guest a pole and Elaine's home he came last year and then Joe had so much that he wanted to come back open to the same people. Get on with them so you actually came here last year and it was so good you had such a good time that you wanted to come back yeah yeah in front of us here we've got this wonderful file and it's full of all the sights and the things that you can go and see in Liverpool is more about this because you point at this you've got one of the think this is when they move guys from the cinemas and Spider-Man's on their Soviet trip to the cinema last night it really could it was what did you see. A putting a full apes. It was really good interest and we went to. The people who couldn't believe me explain to you I couldn't believe people in the town hall in the town I couldn't believe I was shocked like health food from all different men to move to the Space Museum with no space pools. We went under very we went on the ferry and. It was super. Really good really fascinating because the super was and what do you like about coming away on the shared life. Of a play you know because that's kind of thing. I can have a break and look out we can have a break as well and what would you say if there was somebody listening who might be like yourself needs a little bit of care but might be frightened to go away and go away on their own what would you think. Dolphin to be fighting them up to Shari. If if. And. When I came and after that life it's good for that actually and it's really interesting to be back again next you think might be. Lovely pays there and and a simple simple idea there's Jenny the storm has just reported on the screen where everybody gets a break really late on a well deserved one to 28 minutes before 8 o'clock let's get the latest b.b.c. Radio mostly side views now his fork over the morning they had the president Governors Association has told the governments that the service is in complete decline and an open letter Andrea Albert says many jails in England and Wales are currently in crisis and her members are facing unacceptable stress and anxiety research commissioned by the b.b.c. Countries but if you just put it in simple terms it's because we as u.k. Citizens are out of something called the shine going agreement which means we are no longer just waved through as we used to be and this is led to long queues at popular e.u. Ports Adam currently is in the queue waiting to talk to was this morning Adam just tell us exactly what has changed was nearly was happened is that and the requests to be fair to the European Commission at the request of. All e.u. Member states they have bumped up security or what is required at the border post of e.u. Countries now what that means in practice is that there are now more security checks for non Schengen countries now this gets a bit confusing to put simply you've got the e.u. All 28 members soon to be 27 once we leave but at the moment we're still in 28 members freedom of movement of people absolutely but there are a few e.u. Countries the u.k. Being one of them that are not in something called the Schengen agreement and there are some non countries that are in the show going to be like Norway and Iceland for example now not that these new rules tighter security running your passport through a machine rather than just wafting through that applies to non Schengen countries not e.u. Not normally you are not e.u. Countries so the u.k. Is in his weird position of being part of the e.u. Freedom of movement should be waved through but non Schengen So now all we have to have our passports put through a reader you've still got all the ear European union rights you still travel where you want but we're not showing and so we have to go through a computer that doesn't sound very draconian Does it trouble is it's 2 minutes a passport think of death thousands and thousands of people that for example Parma Airport in New York where I went for the b.b.c. Last year and suddenly you're British passport can no longer be wafted through what I can tell you having been there snarly that half the passengers at Palmer airport are going to Liverpool airport Manchester Airport even Blackpool is probably a flight from Parma to Blackpool for all I know so half the passengers are going to the u.k. And all of them now have to have their passports run through machines and which airports are affected by this well technically every airport where where there are international travelers but where the gum up seems to be happening are the ones that are popular with Brits so Barcelona other other southern European ones mentioned Parmer York Amsterdam and Brussels which are very popular as weekend us. Donations and I know also Hobbs where you go to abse them and you change planes and go somewhere else so those seem to be some of the main one Lisburn as well Leon or Paris Milan now the e.u. Commission is saying 8 you asked for this Europe and it's up to each individual country to start off and resource its airports probably one of the eyewitnesses what about people who are at the airports they've been talking about this haven't they I should imagine is pretty grim Yes and you can go online and you can read the papers today and see grim pictures of some of these airports with long queues you know even been eyewitness reports in the very hot airports of people fainting taking 4 hours to get through disrupt you know children getting very upset and disruptive and all of that sort of stuff but the says hey the commission says you asked for it because for very sensible reasons we have to tighten security now what I can't quite work out and it may be a logistics thing why they said it's Schengen countries rather than either you can treat could they not have said well the u.k. Part of the e.u. Therefore things as normal but they haven't or now has led to some people suggesting there had been a go at us they know it's going to affect us more than anyone and it's you decided to level it is what you get I'm not saying for one minute that's true that's what some people think and we'll leave it there for now thank you it's just going to be easy to go to Robin Hood campaign real for a for a night and think in a. Way there's Adam currently reports in Israel today the headlines now this Tuesday morning on break for the head of the prison Governors Association has told the government that the service is in complete decline and research commissioned by the b.b.c. Has found up to 3000 elderly people won't be able to get beds in care homes by the end of next year because of growing demand and Liverpool's Alder Hey Children's Hospital has doubled the number of clinical trials it's carried out this year and it's now in the top 10 in the country little more Internet story just after 8 o'clock and in sport down. Bit of a thaw. In a little pools 33 male win over by Munich last night in Bahrain says it's in a better prepared for a run in the Europa League this season thanks to the signings they've made so far. B.b.c. Radio Well the busiest motorway is the end 60 lb If you are headed towards Manchester it's got some slow traffic junction 10 where the m 6 for the croft interchange apart from that is the usual stick in spots which are slowing you down Edge Lane drive we have got queuing traffic now there westbound into town it's an awful street and congestion back you know to the rocket strive as well. On the lane closure at catching you out this morning the strand is very busy as well as street just by the live build and it's picking up there already and again it's some roadways which is slowing you down a national make you feel heavy traffic on the a 58 Liverpool Road. Road a mill feel like it's a temporary traffic lights there which are catching you out but the wrong call witness breach still looking Ok no issues reported through the tunnels and trains seem to be fine as well but of course if you know weather wise and you can update us please call us as long as it's safe and it's legal the number to ring is I want 517940953 b.b.c. Radio messy so I travelled as a little. Song on film after film after film after film The song was released I think 3 or 4 times before and it was in the America but it ended up on quite a few films in the United States so we'll tell you that is just with Rushworth draper's shop which closed 17 years ago today it's 17 years ago to look a little. Including the Beatles you know they got their instruments from there as well and. It's I think it's a mishmash of different shops and I was not you know the building is what you did where he experienced. Henry the. This was in the year 2000 when it closed down but. Also the whole reason why. Such. Drama. In the. Song featured in the film throughout the decades is even better financially I'm sure it's great but you know it's a it's a lasting legacy. And there she goes and it's 30 years since there she goes. This going to be an exhibition at the Florey in the south end of the city all of. Them is going to be pictures there are some of the demos as a demo was recorded in. The bedroom. Little bit rough around the edges. Recorded in a bedroom on a cassette back in the 1st release scratch the. 50. Second release. On film it's been in the parent it's been in fever pitch. And it was in. Madras Well now it was ironic that in 1990 it was a play favorite. Thank Yes the actual mission and the Florey it's in September will tell you more about a close of the time and purely by coincidence lead single as it's his birthday today as well Robben Island is with us director of research at food active looking at the papers as we go to. The last number of different stories we should be through it's. Hard to find older stories one in the Daily Telegraph I found quite interesting crossroads are not the solution to dementia says h u k s a bit of a sort of soft headline merely because. It's a story essentially where a lot of. Magazines are promoting themselves to mention crosswords I don't think anybody saying that ready. Or not to mention is a very to do crosswords Well thought the cross was in pseudo code keeping your brain active is a way of sort of yourself going as you go almost as one elements of. Exercise a Suppose as well as well I think. Of course course was going to be fun for a lot of people not just older people yet they do keep your brain active but I think the serious story in here is you're absolutely right into his eyes you get older and keep me ourself going he's actually often the Chinese new things to keep yourself physically active consider studying the real thing I think which is partly within here of course you know you're going to do crosswords on your own predominately on ice some people are doing it with a. Parno whatever but actually getting out and finding company can be really important to medicine in itself absolutely and that's a lot about that which I think is important. There's a story in The Times issue the classic story this time of year again isn't it on worth every penny says $220000.00 pound University chief pictured George Jones with a Rolls Royce Jewish possibly not the why Amish when I'm not going to take an extra rolls my is not a good idea. But a little bit here suggest boys chances are getting the message on per year students faced the prospect of annual tuition fees rising beyond No $1250.00 quid and as the thought of. You can hit a moment Yes I'm a little bit suspicious about you know it's funny what it says Julie. How we have heard of a university go now a business that means that going Well yes well possibly there is a lot coming on tuition for George so it will be at the irony of this with the Jewish in phase is to plug the pensions deficit Oh my god the Ok and if he's having a huge impact on tuition fees are there and I know in our city and over Perl there's a lot of kids now going local to save money and you can see that's going to have a big impact upon their university experience on their parents' experience there's a lot more kids at home so there's some very serious stories around that and how we truly are you know our higher education so yeah yeah get rid of the Rolls my probably isn't the best of. All he's a nice story for your holiday time isn't there yet lovely picture great big picture on show tiny nice picture of it all couple from a long way back I've had some a break to live in sight and for 84 years I who hasn't how lovely it is that I just met So who's the picture actually is a couple with the baby and the baby is a picture of Barbara Johnson who went there as a little while with her mom and dad and she said. We'll go in before 3. And a message from Carol before as well and she said if we holidayed more and got rid of the hassle at the airports in our country in this country or in the u.k. It would boost the economy but it's so expensive you try to get a count of them tomorrow night in Devon or comb or you're talking thousands Fortunately it's not the reason why of course people are flying so much equal I think it's cheaper I mean whether things are going to change is clearly not at all for fun or you got to spend hours Kiran and frankly you know the exchange the route you now get in it's going to get worse guys I'm sorry sir yeah whatever local or foreign money you've got to know all together well by huge toll road. And sharing that's not going to last. I got time for more money well I'll take a Cyberwoman I think it's quite an interesting story but I are looking at putting a Holocaust memorial in London and it's a bit about remembering history and and these very difficult times where people are being challenge there and obviously there's all sorts of issues about how we all get on with each other and how we get on with the rest of Europe I personally would think that having a Holocaust memorial is something we should be aware of Warsaw where there's more anti semitic activities at the moment which is really upset thing and yeah I'm concerned about racism and lack of tolerance frankly I'd be in favor so we'll see how that guy over there just talking about building one and looking at designs and you know good to see you you know you'll faces and you're going to crack in life I have to tell you that it is director of research food active Good to see you have a Thank You know rich city for the coming season what you think. Interesting yeah I mean I see so that's following your Liverpool's example which on the go now you've got a sponsor now list those responses tiny. Pays I don't say any more happening. Just News now good morning the present Governors Association has launched a scathing attack on the government's management of jail sin England and Wales arguing that many are in crisis the association's president's Andrea Albertz said her members had seen nothing tangible from the Ministry of Justice to population precious and the burden on staff the government says it's dealing with long term challenges in prisons and its reforms will make them safer. Hurst is the acting chairman of the prison officers association and works at h.m.p. Liverpool He's also a commander in the tornado team a group of specially trained officers who deal with rioting from my experience when after all with their riots going on to a wing where prisoners are from pool balls I was thrown television sets I was over the lanterns being damned with table legs and homemade knives so it is really a critical situation research commissioned by the b.b.c. Has found up to 3000. People won't be able to get beds in care homes by the end of next year because of growing demand the data from property consultants j.l. Suggests that in 9 years the shortfall could be more than 70000 bands and meadows from the company says there needs to be more incentives to encourage investments in the industry we're reaching a tipping point in the u.k. Where historically build rates have been around 7000 a year but because of the greatly increased number of 85 year olds over the next 20 years we're predicting an increase demand around $14000.00 new beds on average per year and that's something equivalent to the size of the West Kirby each year research suggests more than a 1000000 women in their early sixty's are worse off financially as a result of the increase in the state pension age the Institute for Fiscal Studies found that raising the age from 60 to 63 was saving the government 5000000000 pounds a year but those affected were losing more than 30 pounds a week on average the Department for Work and Pensions says the change is fair because of rising life expectancy a 17 year old boy charged with the manslaughter of a pensioner in sin Helens will appear at Liverpool youth court today 65 year old that Len Saunders was with his friend when they were asked for cigarettes on board street in the town 10 days ago when he said no he was punched in the head and fell to the ground he died on Sunday a 15 year old boy has been released without charge Liverpool's although Haye Children's Hospital has doubled the number of clinical trials it's carried out this year and is among the top 10 in the country the research activity league table has been released today and all the hay has increased from 2300 to over 4 and a half 1000 the figures have been compiled by the National Institute for Health Research Greg Woodley works for them here in Liverpool and explains what sort of trials they conduct there are a number of different. Cesar all day focus on police do a lot of research into making medicine Safer So if you're a mom you know often you make a culpable dose there's an awful lot of research that's gone into another part of research that old had been involved in is it's sexist and they were actually involved in producing the gold standard for the diagnosis of sepsis a vigil will take place tonight to mark the 9th anniversary of the death of Michael Kors in a homophobic attack the 18 year old trainee headdress from western was attacked while he slept in 2008 and the Duke of Edinburgh will make his final solo appearance on Royal Duty the saf the noon Prince Philip who's $96.00 will greet the Royal Marines Buckingham Palace caps in general the Queen's Consols announced in May he'd be retiring after more than $65.00 here supporting the monarchy and attending events for his own charities and organizations to sport now and Daniel Sturridge is trying to play down fears over his latest injury scare he came off the bench to score in Liverpool's 3 no way in over by in Munich but immediately pulled up with a thigh problem Sturridge though insists he's Ok and put it down to a bit of fatigue brain says Everson a better prepared for a run in the Europa League this season thanks to the signings they've made so far the blues fly out to Slovakia today ahead of the qualify it with Bruce and Barack tomorrow the England women's head coach Mark Sampson says Shaun Chamberlain has the experience to cope with the pressure of playing in tomorrow's European Championship semifinal the lovable ladies' keeper will start against Holland after it was confirmed Karen Bardsley suffered a broken leg in the win over France and the 8 time Olympic champion you sane Bolt says doping in athletics must stop or the sport will die he's racing for the final time in his career at the World Championships in London which starts on Friday that's the news and sports I'll be back with more at 830 Eastern hour at breakfast . News just a little bit but we'll go into in a bit more detail in a minute clinical research is a vital part of course of the work of the National Health Service helping medics develop better treatments which can lead to real breakthroughs that go on to save lives and certainly change people's lives as well a report this morning shows all day hospital here in Liverpool doubled the number of patients involved in clinical trials going to say in a minute or so and children throughout the country being invited to celebrate their right to play today a special event is marking International played actually to play play way it's taking place at Liverpool's Princes Park. Summers is there for us this morning we'll hear from him just before half past 8 and scows now is on today too. The people of Liverpool would send these abroad but you had to be quick or they would run out that's the question that you couldn't get have another crack about in about 15 minutes b.b.c. Radio. Now every year more than half a 1000000 people help improve health care and develop life saving treatment by taking part in health and social care research but more are always needed new figures released this morning how many people are involved in clinical trials at hospitals up and down the country those figures been released and all the hay Children's Hospital here in Liverpool made the top 10 by doubling the number involved in research Vicki Wilkinson is research Delivery Manager for Clinical Research Network here in the northwest with responsibility for pediatric research she joins me in the studio along with Professor Matthew Peters director of research at Alder Hey professor to you in a 2nd but think I'll come to you 1st good morning thank you for coming in these these figures are published by the National Institute for Health Research it sounds sounds very grand What is it it does and to put it simply. Because that's. Where that research arm of the n.h.s. . Has been more you've doubled the amount of trials as well yes so that's more opportunities for patients and sometimes healthy volunteers to get involved in research and the research helps to make save ases and treatments better for people in the future but times for those who not been on a clinical trial we have an idea of what it's like and it's not like that all know that you know what I mean it's so wide ranging sometimes a trial could be as simple as a questionnaire sometimes it could be a bit more involved and it might involve taking samples if you go in for a routine appointment anyway to provide that extra bit of information or sometimes it could be a new treatment or a new drug and this is great news is now from a more than 4 and a half 1000 people are now involved in clinical trials I mean that's well up on last year's Yeah it is and I think I mean Matthew will probably go into that a lot more but I just think there's so much enthusiasm for the stuff all day and also the patients in the public to get involved why do you think it's it's gone up so much is it because we know it's Children's Hospital is there that element of it and I think perhaps it's because it's a children's hospital I think they're heavily involved they have a young person's advisory group which helps design some of the studies right so they know they are relevant to how they run to the children involved it was him for his own it's a I think there's a lot more awareness in the news as well about anything and how important it is and do things like this. Where would you be without clinical trials. Well for me you know now I want the confidence to know that me my family you know my my friends if they need treatment in the n.h.s. That is the right treatment and without the research you don't have the evidence to say it's the right treatment or kind of formalin in the dark as opposed to a certain degree stay with it I don't disappear because I wanted to be part of the conversation let's bring in the Professor Matthew Perry director of research and although Professor Matthew good to see you morning what's what's the reason for. For the increase we took briefly with that with thinking that the new hospital or staff actively promoting clinical research is it all kind of just mesh together so there's a combination of factors so as Vicki said there's a huge motivation for children and families and also staff to offer clinical trials we've got an expert research delivery workforce at Alder Hey so you might attend hospital and go and see a specialist Yeah but we firmly believe that our team which is a multi just the team of nurses pharmacists doctors and other health care professionals really are experts in being able to deliver clinical trials and of course you have to have clinical trials and research studies available for children families to participate in Liverpool in pediatrics and in children health is really strong in developing research studies and pediatrics and children's healthy it's quite a small community really so there are large national trials which although he's always ready to take part in and offer those important clinical studies to families if you were going to particular industry. With your industry for example and somebody said clinical trials instantly you know what it's all about you know how it works you know how the system works but for people who are not involved in that it's important to explain what happens really isn't it because a said to Vicki you know I'm going for a clinical trial who are mediately to be wired taught me going to be experimented on and that's that's almost like a default. Default way for some people to go isn't it it's not like that at all is it no not at all it really any clinical trial is just part of routine clinical care and often what we're doing in a clinical trial is offering an alternative or a new treatment which we hope where we're doing it is going to offer better outcomes in a better experience for patients so on the face of it Patients often you don't really notice a difference they know they're going to clinical trial they cared for by an expert workforce which is a combination of our research staff and our expert clinical staff of the head it's always important to explain to people what most. I happened really is an absolute am so I want to explain they go yeah go all of a then is not the way it were indeed so I should firstly say that all our research studies have been through an ethics process so they're safe and that's very clearly documented and our research stuff again or that the commission who the patient and family may be visiting can explain the opportunity to and to enter research trial and all the information about the trials explained at that point and farmers are given time to think about it and then we'll take informed consent and then the family can enter the trial at that point same question as mentioned. Before if we didn't have clinical trials we be as advanced as as we are now not also research in critical trials in particular law or fundamental ways by which improving health care. Develops So for example new drugs new ways of surgical interventions a whole host of ways to improve health care I think it's really important to say that we're talking today about numbers of children families eventa trials and one might say well what's the big deal about a number but actually there's been some very strong research published which clearly demonstrates that research intensive organizations offer better better health outcomes to patients so although it's a number the fact that research volume is increasing gives assurance to families and children that they are in research intensive hospital and therefore outcomes complex to be better and I'm sure of the years you've seen many many great outcomes due to their Absolutely so you know some examples so we're very interested in childhood infection so we've developed through research ways to detect infection earlier and quicker and manage it better we've got a lot of work into serious infections sepsis again which we hope and it has been also to the limits that horrible life threatening disease here we're almost out of time but last year old a lot of the new chair. It's a campaign to raise $6000000.00 pounds for research to correct how we and where so we're actively campaigning now so it's remarkable research we're looking to raise $6000000.00 pounds to fund our new research and education facility which is a fantastic melting pot of scientists clinicians academics which generates fantastic new research ideas which ultimately will benefit your family as it is really part of the furniture in this city and beyond as well because when I've been to do jobs that your place you meet people from all over the country really to just to finish with you Vicki if I'm a how do people get involved in volunteering for a clinical job when you are going for your routine appointment is something you can always ask the doctor or the naysayer who have you seen what we say has happened you know can he tell you what's going on in Iraq I think or you could google and I ate I am research Ok that would tell you about how to get involved that easy Ok pleasure to meet you both Professor Vickie thank you very much indeed and later. Crack on with all the cash as well thank you thank you very much it's b.b.c. Radio Merseyside just state the headlights. Of the prison Governors Association has launched a scathing attack on the government's management of jails in England and Wales arguing that they are in crisis and Research Commission mother b.b.c. Has found up to 3000 elderly people won't be able to get beds in care homes by the end of next year because of growing demand and care homes closing down and a teenager is doing called later charged with the manslaughter of a pensioner who was attacked in the same talents in sport Daniel Sturridge Cole but then almost immediately picked up a thigh injury at Liverpool be by Munich 3 male in the latest pre-season friendly didn't look like a friendly in the past 5 minutes I have to say Daniel Sturridge of clubs and he's Ok the smallest So everybody come down off red alert you're on amber alert now for Daniel Sturridge and the England women said Coach Mark Sampson says goalkeeper Chamberlain has the experience to cope with the pressure of playing in tomorrow's European chair. Ship semi final clip they go all the way. B.b.c. Radio. Are we moving along we seem to be fully the most I know it's a do it all right we have still got a queue of traffic and delays on major lane drive I'm afraid westbound and also road it is nothing new but it is backing up devouring Park Road at the rocket there so look out for the Queen's drive is busy generally moving. At the 5 ways roundabout there would have gone very slow traffic as you would expect now at the Strand coming into Liverpool I was the streets but elsewhere it is busy across the wrong call witness bridge but it is moving and just regular commuter traffic through the tunnels as well but if you have to take for us and we are missing anything please do call us provided it's safe and it's legal I want 517940953 b.b.c. On you Bill 21 is my state now the Duke of Edinburgh not felt the juke of Edinburgh will carry out his final official royal engagement today he'll attend the parade with the role Marines Prince Philip is the longest serving consul in British history his retirement follows decades of service is carried out more than $22000.00 solo engagement and Gage wins and has visited. $143.00 countries someone who's also attended many of those events since the 1970 s. Is the royal photographer the redwoods he sees as it is he's true to himself There's nothing false about him as what you see is what you get and you know when you think he's been serving the Alongside the Queen never let down once Rudy she is over 65 years so you know good luck. With Prince Philip is currently involved with more than $700.00 organizations most noted notably the other you'd fall into his game due to bad bad and or awards lots and lots of people have done that maybe kids grandkids maybe you've done the Musa elf now that scheme is very much in the image of the man himself a man of action according to the redwoods when he married the queen commanded his own ship I mean he was ship I mean he was a man of action and doing things and so you know the fact that he had to knuckle down to support the queen and he's done it brilliantly and along the way he's done some amazing things as well he's the World Wildlife Fund For instance. On the map you can read it or would scan which is probably 2nd to none a young person with a gold gold award almost certain to get an interview for any job application because they've dedicated themselves to doing good for others and a many things like that and so although he. Has been playing his life playing a wife 2nd fiddle. When you think what he's achieved its 1st Class Well there's been well documented times when Prince Philip has been how can we say. Blunt yet blunt to the point even on diplomatic as well he reportedly wants told a young boy who wanted to be a spaceman he said You're too fat so on to be an astronaut that's just the way it is says author Edwards who remembers a moment last year a mold when he was asked to take a royal family photo I was asked to take the picture of the 2 the queen and Prince and the toxic. I knew I had to be quick because. Prince of Wales is committed. But he won't stop after the 3rd picture he walks off he doesn't even say that's enough he just a picture so you know that you've got to get it right in 3 because the 4th he's. Been taking pictures roll family for many many many years roll photographer Arthur Edwards playing tribute to Prince Philip who retires the day and just walked off. The question that you couldn't get yes. Day before yesterday. A question that. The people of Liverpool would send the rules but you have to be quick. People would get them and they would send them abroad but you had to be quick to get warm weather wise they'd be gone where they it's not the pink. Is the pink which you did have to be quick together for. The playing of the people of Liverpool. And when they arrived to the person they were sending them to it was brilliant thank you very much that's a big help so what were they place. People of Liverpool. But you have to be quick they would run out. Passport or somebody said yesterday this is the number the regular number. Call. 70993. Email and. Can accept them on their sorry. People of Liverpool. But you have to be quick to. 70993. Go and I want to let you have a think the next 5 or 6 minutes or so. B.b.c. Radio. Hundreds of children are expected to flock to Liverpool's Princes Park for a celebration of play it's international play day did you know I didn't know why the kids will be able to take part in a range of activities including line dancing at the disco dome $74.00 the obstacle course I'm glad. Yeah b.b.c. Radio Jenny Lisa almost forever young of course is therefore is the small morning to you Jan. Well good morning Tony Yes You know what it's going to be so many moms and dads and grams and granddad to many of the people looking after the kids at this moment thinking what can we do what can we do to keep these little ones busy and happy and also is there any chance that it could be free as well I can tell you are in luck because what a day they've got in store for the little ones here at Princess Park now the skies get brighter it is all quiet now but later on this space is going to be filled with the noise of kids doing what kids do best and those running around and playing and it's because it's playing host to the international play they know one of the people in charge of the whole thing is Kevin McIntyre from the play action and he's here with me now Kevin this is like the calm before the storm isn't it is that the . Weather's going to reprove a little bit already since you. Guys look oh yeah tell us what exactly is international played. To the fact that the children of the right to play and to play. Which will. Keep us busy from 1 o'clock on with. The traditional activities and expect like inflatables and other creative activities storytelling will be lots of things going on many of them we are too many to mention at the moment now they're called to international play day but actually this is by no means the 1st time that Liverpool's held an event like this no play days are common to the little we've been doing this is 1974 this has just been by just international play day which is great because we get support for that as well and when did it become like an international thing so this is going on across the globe that is across the globe this has been going on now for a decade or so and when you talk about kids in play and we think that it's something that must come so natural to them why give it its you know specific day I think is just to highlight the fact that children need to be a place to play. The way we build and. Live these days the opportunities for children to apply are restricted now. It's not so easy to play in the street anymore it's not that easy to many more cars and they used to be so we're trying to make sure that we provide as much opportunity for children to play some of the things we're doing this summer is going play schemes in conjunction with. A lot of all the organizations we see Bond as positive about play and the Liverpool play partnership this involves a lot of organizations involved in funded and support and that will be looking on the phone didn't support in about 2500 children a day in activities properly supervised activities and this is all part of the play action do it is the play day is just one major event for that people to see that kind of activity and get involved and why is it would you say it's important you know tough days like this is it because there's been a lot in the news recently about a lot of the long suffering without you know obesity in this actually going to standing. For years to come it's always been something that we've we've thought about because this there's a lot of elements to play somebody creative some is physical and we want to make sure that children are involved in active play but equally the elements of play are simple so tell us some of the things that you thought people down if they were going to. A 74. Piece of equipment they can struggle through and climb over the inflatables we'll have some music go in almost Well the. Lots of organizations are coming down just to to talk about the work that they do with children the older people as well so there's going to be stalls settle down where you have a new. So lots of activities. But expecting somewhere between about $500.00 at any one time to $1000.00 over the day people and children attending the event and best of all it's all free and so if you want to come down here today is the entrance to Devon she road and Belvedere road it's on the corner Belvedere 00 and then you can walk straight into the parking lot is there everything will be free and hopefully. Allow say these guys like I'm already so if you are in charge of the ones that you are looking for something to do in Princes Park is the place to be all free as well all free today thank you very much indeed. The place came as well good idea play day could say 30 Let's get the latest news headlines now good morning the prison Governors Association has launched a scathing attack on the government's management of jail sin Anglin in Wales arguing that many are in crisis here so ca sions president Andrea Alberts said her members had seen nothing tangible from the Ministry of Justice population pressures and the burden on staff research commissioned by the b.b.c.
