Battle Creek-area recovery team trains under lake ice
Battle Creek — The temperature on Goguac Lake was never above freezing on a recent Sunday but for some not too cold for a swim.
Several members of Calhoun County’s Area Law Enforcement Underwater Recovery Team were under eight inches of ice and taking a look around.
“It is really nice. Once you get past the initial shock on your face, the water temperature is actually warmer than we are standing right here,” Andy Erard said, standing on the frozen lake not far from the Battle Creek Country Club.
Eight members of the team were on the ice, and some under the ice, for a couple of hours.
