Incumbent Bastrop school board member Kellye Seekatz and challenger Joseph B. Thompson faced off in a candidate forum Monday night and discussed their priorities for the district over the next four years.
The Place 2 race is the only contested school board seat in the May 1 election. Rick Rivera, who is running for the Place 1 seat, is running unopposed. Rivera was appointed to the Place 1 seat in January to replace James Allen, who resigned in December after accepting a job in Arkansas.
During the hour-long candidate forum Monday, Seekatz and Thompson discussed a wide range of school district-related issues including improvement plans, the $183.7 million school bond proposal also on the ballot and priority issues over the next four years.
