PLANS being submitted for Basildon’s £8.4million youth zone is the “best Christmas present youngsters could ask for”, according to council bosses.
Long touted proposals for the youth zone, off Ashdon Way, in the town centre, will now be debated by councillors and it is hoped work could get underway next year.
The development will also see a charity launched under the banner of the “Basildon Youth Zone”.
It will feature a sports hall, a floodlight 3G pitch, a climbing wall, a fitness suite, and entertainment facilities, if the plans are given the green light.
But senior councillors warn the approval could take up to 13 weeks due to the coronavirus pandemic.
