A MUM has described how she broke her spine in a desperate attempt to save her nine-month-old baby.
Sophie Turner, of Melbourne Street in Barrow, was carrying her baby boy Kobi down the stairs when she slipped.
Intent on protecting Kobi, the 25-year-old fell backwards and took all the weight onto her spine, resulting in a compression fracture.
She said: "I'd gone to get my son up from his morning nap and was nearly at the bottom of the stairs when I misjudged the step.
"Instead of my son falling forward and causing serious damage to himself, I swung my body back to save Kobi and took my full body weight on the back of the stairs and fractured my spine.
