Bam Construct wins £30m hospital expansion
Bam Construct has been picked to deliver a £30m expansion of the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro.
The contractor will build a three-storey extension on the existing Trelawny Wing, which will include an MRI suite and a 24-bed haematology and oncology ward.
Enabling works were completed last month and the main building phase will begin shortly. Subcontractors appointed so far include TClarke on the M&E, joinery specialist Luscombes and groundworks firm WBM. The new project is scheduled to be completed in autumn 2022.
Bam construction director Graham Kingdon said working in a live hospital will present an extra challenge. “We’ve been on site conducting minor works for the trust over the last couple of years so we have formed a good understanding and relationship with them and our partners in advance of the major works commencing,” he said. “We will have to keep the hospital fully functional during this time despite the technical challenges.”
