BACOLOD CITY - The city government here is set to receive a lot donation of 3.5 hectares in Barangay Vista Alegre to become the site of a medical complex that will include the Bacolod City General Hospital and new City Health Office building. Mayor Evelio Leonardia on Monday said he has been granted by the City Council the authority to sign a memorandum of agreement with the donors, the Gensoli family. "Allow me to reiterate my heartfelt thanks (to them) for this generous gesture and unwavering commitment to serve their community. We cannot overemphasize our sincerest gratitude for their civic-mindedness," he said in a statement. Leonardia has been authorized to enter into an agreement with the Exellion Agri and Realty Corp. and Bukid Agri Ventures Inc., represented by Gloria Gensoli. The deed of donation, which was approved by the City Council on Dec. 9, includes a provision that calls for the local government unit (LGU) to name the whole integrated property as the Teofilo M. Gensoli Sr. Memorial Medical Center. It also stipulates that the LGU will develop an additional 5,000 square meters for road access to serve as the entrance and exit to the medical complex. Leonardia said the medical complex in Barangay Vistas Alegre once operational in the next few years will spur economic growth in the community and the outlying areas. He again thanked Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri and Senator Christopher Lawrence "Bong" Go, chair of the Senate committee on health, as well as Bacolod City Lone District Rep. Greg Gasataya for their roles in the passage of the law creating the city hospital. Gasataya authored House Bill 6731 while Zubiri sponsored the counterpart Senate Bill 1647 for the creation of the city's own hospital. Last June 24, President Rodrigo Duterte signed Republic Act 11564 for the establishment of the Bacolod City General Hospital. (PNA) }
