Baby in car with double murder suspect killed by Mississippi police dies at Alabama hospital

A baby in the car with double-homicide suspect when he was shot and killed by authorities in Mississippi died Tuesday morning, Harrison County Coroner Brian Switzer said.
The baby, born in January, died of injuries he sustained when his father, Eric Derell Smith, died of a multiple gunshot wounds following a vehicle pursuit with authorities in Gulfport, Harrison County and state troopers with the Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol.
The baby had undergone surgery and was in his father’s blue Nissan Altima at the time.
