RALEIGH â Unemployment rates (not seasonally adjusted) increased in 99 of North Carolinaâs counties in June and decreased in one. Scotland County had the highest unemployment rate at 9.4 percent while Orange County had the lowest at 3.7 percent.
All fifteen of the stateâs metro areas experienced rate increases. Among the metro areas, Rocky Mount had the highest rate at 7.1 percent while Durham-Chapel Hill had the lowest at 4.1 percent. The June not seasonally adjusted statewide rate was 4.9 percent.
When compared to the same month last year, not seasonally adjusted unemployment rates decreased in all 100 counties. All 15 of the stateâs metro areas experienced rate decreases over the year. The number of workers employed statewide (not seasonally adjusted) increased in June by 53,513 to 4,790,820, while those unemployed increased by 24,549 to 246,934. Since June 2020, the number of workers employed statewide increased 376,701, while those unemployed decreased 185,399.
