GP clinics are fully capable of distributing high levels of COVID-19 vaccines and are waiting on supplies in order to ramp up the inoculation effort, says Royal Australian College of GPs President Dr Karen Price.

“GPs are used to doing vaccinations, I mean last year with the flu vaccination we did six million in six weeks so given the right supply and the right timing we can get it done,” she told Sky News.

Dr Price said her experience and understanding was “we have got not enough supply compared to what we can do so we’re waiting for that supply to ramp up”.

“We’re a little bit behind on our vaccination schedule but we’re far ahead in every other respect so I think we’ve got a little bit of a breathing space but clearly we’ve got to get going.”
