Austin Head, an activist in the LGBTQ community and local progressive politics in Phoenix, died unexpectedly on April 8 at his home in Hollywood, California. He was 37.
Head was born on Dec. 11, 1983, in Phoenix to Jo Ramsey and Bill Head. He was a strong advocate for those in the HIV and the LGBTQ communities. He lived a rather adventurous life pursuing his acting career in New York City and Hollywood.
The cause of his death is unknown.
On Nov. 9, 2012, while Head was in Phoenix working as a DJ, he was assaulted by two men as he walked down Central Avenue. The men attacked both Head and his friend while yelling homophobic slurs.
