Independent teams will now investigate incidents involving Aurora Police officers
The move comes after an independent panel called APD's handling of the investigation into Elijah McClain's 2019 death flawed.

AURORA, Colo. — Following a critical report about the Aurora Police Department's (APD) handling of the Elijah McClain case, Independent Critical Incident Response teams will now be responsible for investigating shootings and in-custody deaths involving Aurora officers.
APD has now joined the Critical Response Teams for the 17th and 18th Judicial Districts. The two teams will conduct independent, multi-agency investigations into officer-involved shootings and in-custody deaths.
