'Launchpad' short film collection coming to Disney+ in May

Disney+ is giving a glimpse of the Launchpad short film collection.

The streaming service shared a premiere date, May 28, and a trailer for the series of short films Wednesday.
Launchpad consists of six live-action short films by young filmmakers from underrepresented backgrounds. The filmmakers worked with mentors from various Disney divisions, including Disney+, Lucasfilm, Marvel Studios, Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios.
The project is meant to diversify the types of stories being told and give access to creators who have historically not had it.
The Launchpad collection is based on the theme "Discover." Disney will begin accepting submissions for a second collection, based on the theme of "Connection," in May.
