Auckland construction company fined $3100 for employing illegal workers

Duty lawyer Owen Martel said Mr Zhao was a shareholder of the company before he became the director, and “didn’t understand what he was doing”, but now understands the requirements.
Martel said he has learnt “a big lesson” and now has two regular employees on work visas.
Immigration New Zealand laid the initial charges against Zhao and his company in late June after illegal workers were found on building sites in Point England.
They were operated by Tāmaki Regeneration Company in conjunction with Kāinga Ora.
