Incumbent ousted in Athol Royalston Regional School Committee race

ATHOL — There will be three new faces on the Athol Royalston Regional School Committee when it reconvenes tonight. Two political novices comfortably out-polled 12-year incumbent Deb Kuzmeskas in Monday’s annual town election in each community.
Elaine Gauthier topped the balloting in Athol, garnering 260 votes, while another political newcomer, Lonnin Bonenfant, finished close behind with 244. Kuzmeskas trailed with a total of 87 votes. Gauthier and Bonenfant handily carried all three precincts in Athol.
Vote totals were as follows: Precinct 1: Gauthier 102, Bonenfant 93, Kuzmeskas 31; Precinct 2: Gauthier 101, Bonenfant 94, Kuzmeskas 34; Precinct 3: Gauthier 57, Bonenfant 57, Kuzmeskas 22.
