GUWAHATI: Assam Health Minister said on Thursday that the COVID situation in Assam should recede post-May 15.
The minister further said that if a status quo is maintained as far as the COVID cases in the state are concerned, then there should be no need for the government to announce a lockdown.
"When do you need a lockdown? When a state runs out of hospital beds and is unable to handle the situation. If we continue to report around the same number of cases or maybe a little more or less, I do not think we will have to announce a lockdown. Even Prime Minister Modiji has said that lockdown should be the last option. We should do everything to avoid a lockdown," the Health Minister told reporters after he stepped out of a temple in Biswanath. Sarma offered prayers at the temple just 3 days ahead of the result day.
