Just after 7 am on Saturday, meteorologists reported dense ash plumes from the La Soufriere Volcano affecting Barbados.
In response, Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS) issued a severe volcanic ash warning for Barbados until Sunday, April 11 at 6 am.
The ash plumes have severely compromised the visibility in several parts of the island. The north and north-central sections of Barbados were in darkness, resembling nightfall, from as early at 3 pm. Residents across the island have also complained of heavy ashfall.
Due to the ongoing situation, the Grantley Adams International Airport been forced to close. Authorities stated the airport will remain closed until at least Sunday at 6 am.
