Parallels between the Hippos circa 2021 and Kobs circa 1999 have in one manner or another been established. It is easy to see why both age grade teams dovetail in the most powerful of ways.
For one, their performances in varying continental showpieces did not contrive to hold Fufa’s feet to the fire. The Hippos’ second placement at the recently concluded Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations tournament has been applauded broadly.
Many Ugandan football aficionados are stronger than ever in the conviction that Fufa is on the cusp of a great achievement.
This, however, is not the first time that Uganda finds itself at the vanguard of a productive shift. When the country’s vastly talented under-23 squad finished fourth at the 1999 All Africa Games, the ravenous appetite generated was for nothing but success.
