Resíduo correspondente a 22% do grão do arroz, a casca (foto acima) vem deixando de ser um problema para a cadeia produtiva do alimento e se incorporando a outras atividades econômicas. A sobra tem vários usos e entre eles estão os de fonte para a geração de energia e componente de material da construção civil e de artefatos de borracha.
