This is a press release from the City of Arcata:
The City of Arcata’s Environmental Services Department encourages community members to consider going zero waste this holiday season.
Between late November and the New Year, the United States tosses out an estimated 25% more trash than any other time of year. This adds up to approximately 25 million extra tons of garbage generated from holiday-related festivities.
The Environmental Services Department has some tips on how to reduce waste this holiday season, including:
● Shop local. When you shop local you help support your neighbors and the local economy, which is more important now than ever. Plus, your food is guaranteed to be fresher and carbon emissions will be reduced.
