Apartments to be constructed near Sault EDC SmartZone

SAULT STE. MARIE — The city commission unanimously voted to authorize the city manager to develop and execute an agreement for the sale of 13.41 acres of city-owned land for the price of $50,000.
The land has been up for sale since October 2018 and while there have been numerous inquiries and interest, no offers have been made. Five lots are slated to be sold, adjacent to Sanderson Field and are next to the Sault Economic Development Corporation SmartZone, Precision Edge, Dr. Ranta’s medical office, AGX Imaging and Andrzejak Family Chiropractic.
“The request (to sell this land) is coming from a developer that would build out, over the course of several years, market-rate apartment housing units,” said City Manager Brian Chapman. “The request itself would include the five lots for about $50,000.”
