CADIZ — Time flies when a group is busy making a memory of the coal industry that was a big part of Cadiz and Harrison County for years. The group of interested former miners, owners of mines and those interested in mines, stories and tales of the mules hauling out the carts loaded with the black substance, are kept alive by the Harrison Coal and Reclamation Historical Park Inc. at the annual dinner, auction and historical displays.
It was more than 25 years ago that the coal owners, coal workers and coal-minded gave thought to keeping the history of the industry that had gone on for years and made small communities of areas as such Robyville, Herrick, Piney Fork and many others. The younger generation might not have heard of the gigantic shovels, crawlers and all types of equipment that had been used to remove soil from the earth before their presentations and history of the machines.
