STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — More than 40 people gathered in the parking lot of the International Christian Center in Graniteville Monday afternoon to voice concerns amid the ongoing conversation about the role of school safety agents.
“Most people don’t really know what school safety does,” said Harold Wise, a school safety agent for the past 18 years and an organizer of Monday’s event who conducts community outreach on Staten Island. “There are school safety agents like myself that run programs after school and we don’t get paid for it. And when the kids need someone to speak to, they speak to us.”
