A year after Johnny Depp's defamation trial against Amber Heard ended, the Aquaman actress paid the Pirates of the Caribbean actor $1 million. A source close to Depp told People he is planning to donate the settlement money to five different charities: Make-A-Film Foundation, The Painted Turtle, Red Feather, Tetiaroa Society, and Amazonia Fund Alliance. After a settlement was reached in December of 2022, Heard issued a statement announcing that the "very difficult decision" was "not an act of concession." The Rum Diaries actress said at the time, "It's important for me to say that I never chose this. I defended my truth, in doing so my life as I knew it was destroyed. The vilification I have faced on social media is an amplified version of the ways women are re-victimized when they come forward." People also reports that Heard is expected to make her first public appearance since the trial ended at the 69th Taormina Film Festival in Italy later this month.
