ALMOST half of people in Basildon and Southend have battled loneliness during the Covid pandemic, with one woman describing lockdown as “Groundhog Day”.
An Office for National Statistics survey from October to February asked people if their well-being had been impacted by the pandemic in the past week.
Of those in Basildon who said it had, 40.1 per cent attributed this to being lonely.
In Southend, 43.2 per cent attributed this to being lonely. Across Britain, the average was 38.6 per cent.
Stephanie Thompson, a 43-year-old of Clickett Hill, is one of many Basildon residents who say “lockdown loneliness” has impacted their well-being in the past year.
