All 10 bargaining committee members of the Graduate Workers of Columbia-United Auto Workers have resigned, citing internal divisions following the failure of their tentative agreement and the conclusion of the strike.
The seven bargaining committee members who recommended the contract, which the unit ultimately rejected with 53 percent of the vote, resigned on May 6.
In an email announcing their immediate resignation, the seven bargaining committee members cited “toxic internal politics that have long been present in our union” as the main reason that they stepped down. Rank-and-file members also circulated a motion to reconstitute the bargaining committee, which received over 500 signatures.
