Plus. Im in kuala lumpur where an ancient river is getting a new leash on life. Fears of a slow down in the worlds second biggest economy china are continuing to spook markets across the globe and shares plunged across asia and europe and currency is also falling. Chinas shanghai complex went down 8 wiping out the entire gains for the year and its the biggest oneday fall in years and beijing deployed the billion dollar fund to pump up the market with 400 billion of assets to buy stocks failed to stop the decline, from malaysia to brazil oil and commonty exporting nations have seen their currencies hit multiyear lows and as chinas economy slows its not importing the Raw Materials to power its factories and sent the bloomberg Commodity Index to its lowest level since 1998 and neglect in crude sent Oil Prices Tumbling to 44. 55 a barrel, the lowest since march of 2009 and more from adrian brown in beijing. Reporter the share shell off began within minutes of the Shanghai Stock Exchange opening and fell by 9 recovering only slightly. Some of chinas Biggest Companies and means some of the worlds biggest are listed here. On monday the government announced a new and risky intervention to try and prop up the market using billions of dollars from the state pension fund but it the failed to stop the slide. Translator how can the market drop everyday like this . One, two, three, four, five. The market dropped for five days and it never rose back. Reporter many borrowed to buy shares and are now being forced to sell those shares to pay back the loans. Translator the Chinese Market aims to eliminate the middle class. After eliminating the middle class the middle class will have no purchasing power and the market wont be flourishing. Reporter worst is value of pensions could be at risk if the markets decline continues. Translator i think they did not consult this properly and wont spend all the pension money on the stack market. Reporter the government is reensuring investors and what it tried so far to rescue the market has failed and since june the shanghai index lost 30 of its value and analysts warn the decline is likely to continue. Once more the drop in chinese shares dragged down markets across the asia pacific region, the main reason a fear that the slow down in chinas economy is worse than the government is letting on. Hong kong index followed the mainland sharp decline closing down more than five points. The regions stock market tokyo ended the day almost five points lower as well. South korea closed down by more than 2 , its sixth consecutive lost and australia suffered the biggest oneday fall in four years, down by more than 4 . What all these markets desperately need but dont have is investor confidence. Adrian brown, al jazeera, beijing. Lets talk now to simon smith, he is the chief economist for fx prolondon and joins us live now from london. Thanks for being with us so it seems pretty clear at this point that the drop in chinas markets is dragging down the markets in europe this monday morning, how bad do you think it is and how bad could it continue to get . In terms of how bad it is we have seen a near 30 drop in the shanghai composite from the peak so its a big correction and taken u. S. Shares to negative on the year. We are very near to being that for european shares overall and its certainly a big correction. How bad can it get . I think you have to look at how China Integrated with the World Economy in the last a 57 years and take certain countries and uk we have seen exports increase 300 and exports to china is up and japan over the same period and integrated with china more recently as they move to consumerled economy and the west benefitted from that such as commonty exporters such as australia and it puts them in a more vulnerable position than was the case 57 years ago. So it can get quite a bit worse if china continues to fall and we dont see any corrective measures from the government. Yeah, and when you talk to a lot of investors right now they say a big reason for the panic selling is they dont have a whole lot of faith right now in the chinese governments attempts to prop up the stock market and what they have done so far isnt really enough, is that a fair criticism do you think, could they be doing more . If the chinese stock market is not like any other stock market anywhere else in the world, its more like a casino than anything else. A lot of the companies are state controlled to varying degrees, a lot of retail participation versus institutional pension Fund Institution in the europe and uk and its a very different market and chinese authorities certainly key in the increase of what we saw and leverage that was offered and its much harder to sort of then offer that on the down side as many investors have been under water because of that. So i think people are more looking to do measures for the economy in terms of what they can do with Interest Rates and changing to banks and many are zero in western and china is around 4 and where investors are looking, less the stock market and going to the over all economy and moving to what we saw on the Exchange Rate earlier in the month. We should put this in perspective and focus on how much the market has dropped over the last few weeks and months, but when you look at the figures more broadly going further back they are still up quite noticeably from this period last year. Yes, if you look at developed market of course continue to do well, the u. S. Was slowing anyway as investors thought and same for the uk and a Little Europe have done well and European Central bank moved to the states of easing the program and over all the stock market has done very well but its a long rally now and we see in developed markets well over six years which in historical terms is actually quite a long period so its dependent of a catalyst of a strong reversal when economists geared themselves to the growth in china so i think that is where the fears lie and the risk going forward. Indeed, very interesting to see how this does play out. Good to speak with you simon smith, chief economist from prolondon joining us from the british capitol. The u. N. Says 7,000 refugees have arrived in serbia from macedonia since saturday. The influx comes after macedonia reopened its southern border with greece. Earlier it declared a state of emergency sealing the crossing and couldnt cope with the number of refugees trying to enter the european union. To turkey that is difficult. The mountain each one like mt. Ev everest. We didnt see anything and almost dying there. Its difficult to stay there and no future for my children and i lost my job, i lost everything. Im in engineering. My wife is a teacher. No income. No everything. Reporter lets speak now to yanukovich who is on the serbia side with macedonia, what is the situation there on the border right now . Reporter well, ive just been here and around for the last several hours, trying to see what is happening with the refugees and migrants. I saw actually one camp which is roughly one kilometer behind me being guarded by the police but i have not seen any barb wire or fence and no tensions of roughly 1 100 Serbia Police and several hundred migrants and what is happening is those people are being gathered there at that location and then being taken on foot to the location right behind me. As you can see there is a one u. N. Hcr bus and another one is coming this way and these buses are taking and shipping these refugees and Illegal Migrants from this place to the town which is Something Like five kilometers north from here. Ive seen a number of relatively people among refugees and migrants and they are happy because they crossed another hurdle on their trip, on their way towards the eu. They feel macedonia is behind them. This horrible ordeal which happened a few days ago at the macedonia greek border and feel relatively safe and know from here to eu there is only one more border ahead and i think that is the very good sign for them and they are happy because of that. Reporter and are they crossing the official Border Crossings there or just basically anywhere they can . Actually we came from macedonia just three or four hours on official Border Crossing and have not seen a single illegal migrant and i have spoken to the Police Officer there from the macedonia side and serbia side as well and they told me there is a number of roots and small paths between serbia and macedonia which are used frequently by these people who are trying desperately to go or come closer to the eu to get into the eu countries so they are using those channels and they are using these, according to some people there a number of locals are helping them for some amount of money or not, that is something that nobody wanted to tell me about. But they are using exclusively, of course, illegal Border Crossings and i have not seen a single illegal migrant stopped by the police or being returned back. So these people are gathering here and from here they in an organized manner being taken to belgrade and hitching a ride to other towns hoping that in a couple of days they will be across the border to hungry. And just as a reminder hungry government is building an incredibly fast pace building a fence between serbia and hungry and they hope that fence will be over by november 30th. Yanukovich joining us on the serbia macedonia border, thanks for that. As we mentioned earlier macedonia has reopened its border with greece. Jonah is in the town where more people are arriving everyday. Reporter here on the greek side of the border it is busy but for the moment there is a system in place and the system seems to be working. New arrivals coming here all the time. At this point they are able at least to access basic aid, food, water, medical attention if they need it, sit on the ground under the shelter and have a rest before continuing their journey and on this side you can see up there on the rail way tracks a group of people waiting, Macedonia Police in front of them, razor wire across the borderline over there and the Macedonia Police allowing people through in groups of a couple of hundred erperhaps once an hour go to the track up to the rail way station up to the town. This is an unrelenting flow of people. To give you an idea of what is happening in the south of the country a few hundred kilometers away on the islands here we are told there are some 9,000 people sitting in makeshift camps, a number that is growing by a thousand people every single day. A passenger ferry with capacity of 2500 making shuttle trips to athens every single day and those people arrive here within hours of being dropped off at the athens border of perez, unending flow of people making their way through greece into macedonia and on wards to serbia. Hundreds of rightwing south korean protesters held an antinorth rally near the border with north korea and charted slogans against the leader kim j junun as he faced the flag and blaming them for bomb blasts that killed two soldiers and we are following this from seoul and harry how unusual is it for talks to last this long . Reporter well, it is pretty extraordinary. There have been talks in the last couple of years, lowlevel talks that lasted 16, 13 hours and now well over 24 hours now on top of the first session of talks which lasted ten hours in itself and they are still going and obviously there have been pauses and you hope these guys are getting sleep now and again and hoping to get in touch with their capitols but the fact they are still going suggests both sides are at least unwilling to walk out on these talks and abandon them. Nevertheless it wont be easy for them to Reach Agreement and it is shown in the length of them particularly given the fact that the president has essentially made her sides bottom line in the negotiations public, saying she wants north korea to clearly apologize for land mine blasts in the dmz, the military zone which two south korean soldiers were seriously injured. That is at the heart of why south korea restarted its loudspeaker propaganda broadcasts again two weeks ago which is what north korea has been protesting so vehemently against and denies having any part in the land mine at tack and says the loudspeakers must cease and had issued a threat to destroy them. Given the fact they want an apology and north korea unly unlikely to give it. What are they saying about military movements . A couple of interesting developments on monday. The news agency reporting that some 20 north korean hover craft and landing ships have redeployed in the northwest of north korea further down nearer the maritime border. The defacto maritime border and the Defense Ministry has not confirmed when it was put to the spokesman in the briefing early on and it was a bit of a truth but not a full rejection of the claim. What he did was confirm what had been reported on sunday attributed to unnamed sources in the military that the artillery range north of the border had been doubled in size while talks were going on and also of 50 of north koreas 70 submarines according to the side have left their bases and remain undetected and south korea is seeing significant military maneuvers north of the border. Unicef estimates 7,000 of the girls have been trafficked to india every year. In the past women and children trafficked from nepal have ended up as sex slaves in india, an estimated 200,000 of these are still in india. The scenario is its changing here and a number of people are mobilizing from their local hometown to the capitol and its not keeping in an official manner so we can also say the number of trafficking people is increasing. Many of the girls are being trafficked in the name of foreign employment. What has the government done about this . The government has their quality in law and there is like a right according to many of the people are mobilizing from here to go to the country but some of the women and are particularly using a different way like india and they do not have proper documentation so illegal migration. And the right to movement of women has been compromised by the ban on employment for women in certain countries and that is contributing to more trafficking. Should the government not have agreements or some kind of coordination with these countries so that women are safer . Actually the government also needs to be coordinated because International Say no one can ban the women. The government can make sure how like their legal document and the government can make sure the Legal Process and even the way they are going and the government to have a check and to prepare all those legal documents but many people are used to the different channel and route and the government also cant know where the citizens are going.
