We want to organize a match urging the continuation of peace talking about. Who wanted to create this atmosphere . Turkey blamed the p. K. K. For violating a ceasefire and killing a civilian and 21 security personnel over recent days. The game is clear, three terrorist organizations are targeting turkeys democracy freedom and public order. Their actions in june were messages to us and a declaration of war. The turning point was not when we declared war on july 23. The turkish government says there can be no talks if the attacks continue. Turkey began a campaign of airstrikes on p. K. K. Bases in Northern Iraq and isil in syria over a week ago. Officials call it a synchronized campaign against terror, but the campaign has caused a divide among kurdish Political Parties across the region. In the Iraqi Kurdish city, kurds are angry not just about turkish airstrikes but at a call by the president of the Kurdistan Regional government for the p. K. K. To withdraw from Northern Iraq. He is a former Intelligence Security chief and a close ally of the president. His death comes just over a week after the president won a controversial third term despite weeks of violent opposition. A journalist said he was seen as an enforcer of the president s policies. Just last year, he was until then when he was removed from official office as the intelligence chief. He may be having some hand in the killing of the italian nuns last year. These were allegations made by the opposition as well as the protestors the killing could destabilize the country which is struggling to get back on its feet. We have this report from bujumbura. A popular Restaurant Owner in burundis capitol said the recent violence and political crise have slowed down business. He is optimistic about the future. It is improving little by little. Of course, people are still fearing and the economy is still down. I can see but hopefully maybe little by little, we will come to situation at before. The crisis began months ago when the president announced he would seek a third term, despite a constitutional limit of two terms in office. He has since won that election. Losing Children Family members during the civil war he believes the solution to burundis political problems wont come from the International Community. To find peace. Its not through obama or through to make under when we were in the war what makes what governed the peace was after months of unrest, the capital bujumbura is now relatively quiet. A few months ago grenades were thrown into the market and several People Killed. Many people chose to stay away. Now look at it. They hope things stay this way. A lot of work needs to be done. The opposition is divided on shaping power with the president. There are other things to consider. The army and the police are divided. We saw this during the recent protest against the president. All arms of security need to be united. We also hear there are people, militia who want to start a rebellion from outside the country. These are uncertain times. African leaders and International Players are trying to resolve of the crisis, but even they disagree on some of the issues. It could take weeks or months to set up a unity government, if its ever formed. Al jazeera bujumbura. A u. N. Peace keeper has been shot dead in Central African republic. They were trying to arrest a wanted person. French riot police moved may go grants away from the motor way near the french port of calais. 200 spent another night trying to cross into the u. K. The may go grants broke down several layers of fencing by the tunnel entrance. French riot police sprayed them with a chemical irritant. On the other side of the channel, the church of england is criticized britains Prime Minister for what it called his lack of compassion over the crisis. Demonstrators have been out on the streets. They say politicians have to do more to save migrant lives in particular, the lives of those trying to get through the channel tunnel from calais in france by clinging to cars and trucks. Nine have died since june. There are a lot of people who feel the way i do, which is migration is a force for good and we need to treat our fellow human beings with respect. There needs to be a European Initiative that sets up properly managed refugee camps where people can be properly fed and properly processed rather than left to live like animals in the jungle. Afew yards away, protestors with an altogether different view britain first and English Defense League are both opposed to immigration of any kind. Noisy and with the usual symbols of english nationalism, but with an argument that resonates with some. Weve quite enough here at the moment. Our country is on its knees. We need to concentrate on our people, our veterans, our homeless, our natural service, allowing more and more people into this country is just going to deteriorate our system even more. Its just a few hundred yards from the entrance to channel tunnel and what many see as the front line in this countrys struggle with the immigration issue, colorful and noise these demonstrators might be, they are from both extremes, left and right of the political spectrum. It shows you just how polarizing this issue has become. In this corner of england migration is creating strain. In kent, more than 600 unaccompanied children are seeking asylum. 400 migrants made it across since june and relative to london, this is not a rich place. When theres trouble in calais the aftershocks are felt here. Tunnel disruptions led to traffic chaos and thats bad for business. More fences have been built to control migrant access to the tunnel. There were problems all summer. Europes migrant crisis has reached the u. K. Shores and its politicians are beginning to feel its effects. Simon mcgregor wood, al jazeera. Charles stratford is live for about us in calais. Whats the situation like there now . Well, weve been speaking to migrants in this camp, and talking to them about how difficult it has become for them in recent days to try and cross via the tunnel. They are saying that it is becoming increasingly difficult but very determined voices here, as we heard in that report, nine People Killed in recent months, the last one last week believed to be a sudanese man. I spoke to one gentleman who said that he tries on average around 40 times a month. He says that he will not give up trying to get across to what he sees at being a better life in the u. K. I asked him why he thinks that, he said its easier to get a job, in terms of language, he said its easier there. Pointing the finger of blame basically at the u. K. And front here in some of what are described as pretty draconian measures. We heard of pepper spray last night used by Security Forces here on at least 100 migrants trying to cross. Security is increasing. We know that the french government here has deployed more riot police in the area. There have been more Security Forces put on stand by. In fact, this fence behind me has appeared certainly in the last couple of months, but its the stories here from the people that you meet that you realize just how desperate a situation its become here. This particular camp, around 5,000 People Living here and the roads around this camp, as well, you see people lying in fields. Nightfall is when people try and get across, and we hear reports that thousands tried last week. Those numbers a little less in recent nights, but it goes on night after night and that use of pepper spray so speaking to people here, people here tell us is almost a daily occurrence, so its a desperate situation here, and one that obviously hamasive political ramifications in europe and u. K. Now its interesting, of course the u. K. Back in may was opting out of any sort of e. U. Plan to deal jointly with this crisis. What is it that the u. K. And france now want the European Union to do . What are they asking for charlie . They are asking the e. U. To get for more involved, saying this is such a serious problem that its something the u. K. And france cannot deal with on their own. They are saying that these migrants have traveled through other European Countries to get here so other European Countries are responsible for dealing with this crisis. That proposal put forward by the e. U. In may that the u. K. Rejected germany and australia said yes to it, a Court Decision based on the size of the economy, the size of individual countries, taking in 20,000 people that dispersed across the eu but certainly the u. K. Enough is proposing boosting security here with france, putting in as we heard in simons report there more secure private security firms here operating on the entrance to the tunnel from this side, infrared Security Systems and greater also cctv abilities to be able to track and stop people trying to get through. You speak to people here and no matter the kind of efforts that are being made by the u. K. And france to physically stop people crossing this is a nightly attempt, a nightly affair, and certainly we expect more people to try and cross even this evening, people that weve spoken to today say yes theyre going to give it another go tonight. Well wait and see how that transpires. Thanks so much, charles stratford. Plenty more to come here on al jazeera. Joanne Egyptian Court postponed toe verdict in the retrial of three al jazeera journalists for a second time. Its been delayed until august 29. Mom familiar and Baher Mohammed are on bail, peter greste is in australia and being retried in absentia. Peter greste said the delay is frustrating. The lives of no one whos involved in this can move on until we get the verdict. Everything hinges on that day. For me obviously it really defines how my life works from here on, it defines what my career is but particular or baher and fahmy, they walk away as free men or go back into prison. It really defines everything and to be in this position where you build up, you say goodbye to your wife and kids as baher did earlier today, not knowing whether youll see them at the end of the day or go back into prison, that makes an incredibly tough way to have to live. To have another adjournment is really difficult. I was just talking to them on skype as we watched it. For the whole family, its tough. Everyone has built up for this moment. Its been such a long fight and its been a fight thats engaged everyone, everyones energy. It sucked out all the time that anyone in the family has had over the past 18 months, and so we all thought it would be over today. We all thought that we would at least know the situation and at least be able to plan and move on with our lives. It just hasnt happened and again for this delay, its really difficult for all. Secretary of state says the recent nuclear deal with iran will make the world a safer place. John kerry is on the way to the middle east to ease fears over the agreement. He met egypts president and now will meet ministers from the Gulf Corporation council. Let me be very clear. The United States has labeled iran the number one statesponsor of terror in the world, and the United States has taken steps over the course of the last years to try to deal with the reality of the destabilizing choices that have been made, but i have one simple fact to put in front of everybody. If iran is destabilizing, it is far, far better to have an iran that doesnt have a Nuclear Weapon than one that does. Israels Prime Minister is promising to fight what he calls hatred and extremism after two separate attacks have been internationally condemned. Jewish settlers are blamed for an attack that killed an 18monthold baby in the attack. Israel prime Benjamin Netanyahu addressed his cabinet. His language remained strong in response to recent attacks. He said israel has a zero tolerance policy when it comes to what he described as despicable crimes. Thousands turned out in telaviv to protest violence. One Opposition Leader who attended said terror is terror, period terrorists are terrorists period whether muslim or jewish. Netanyahu vowed to find the killers of the baby and bring them to justice. We are determined to fight vehemently against the phenomenon of hatred from any quarter. The fight units us all. It is not a fight of one particular camp or another. It is a matter of basic humanity basic be. Issue values that are a Guiding Light for us. The palestinians say even though the language out of israel has been strong, the faction on the ground tell a different story. They say the arson attack in the occupied west bank is a byproduct of this governments policy of settlement expansion. If that is not stopped crimes like these will happen again. The World Food Program has been forced to cut assistance to refugees in jordan. The most vulnerable will receive 14, half of what they have used to get. The rest will receive only 7. From september, 2,000 refugees will be left without any Food Assistance at all. We have this report from south of the capital amman. Shocked and frustrated, hes just received a text message from the World Food Program. It says the value of the Food Assistance here received every month has been cut by half for the month of august. If thats not enough, he and his syrian family who live outside official camps in jordan wont be entitled to any assistance starting in september. How is it possible that the entire International Community is unable to cover the food needs of Syrian Refugees . It can end the war if it wants. This is nonsense. Hes the monthly Food Assistance was everyones lifeline. He says it was the only support they had after losing their Health Care Services late last year. We have no choice but to call on donors, friends of syria and specifically the gulf states to see how refugees are living and to help us. Losing the food vouchers has been disastrous. Every syrian family in the small unofficial tent community has been notified of the cuts in Food Assistance. Only a hand. Of the children here go to school. The rest of illiterate. With Food Assistance for refugees being cut by half, some syrian families tell us they will have to skip meals and reduce their food portions. As a result. Aid agencies expect more syrian children to go to work or to the street to beg. The cuts do not affect Syrian Refugees living inside official camps, only the hundreds of thousands who live in towns and cities. They make up over 85 of Syrian Refugees in jordan. The World Food Program was going to entirely suspend assistance to all refugees living outside of camps because of a lack of money but a last minute donation from the u. S. Loched it to provide significantly ruled assistance. We need more countries to follow suit. This donation is not enough, unless we get more funding the least vulnerable families will have to be cut off as of september. The lack of money is forcing around 86 of Syrian Refugees in jordan to live under the poverty line. Its affecting their well being and the ability of International Organizations to help them. Al jazeera. Its been 25 years since the invasion of kuwait by iraq. Iraqi president Sadaam Hussein sends his troops into its tiny oil rich neighbor, accusing kuwait that forcing all prices down. Seven months later, u. S. Led Coalition Forces launch an operation to drive the iraqis out. Iwe have this report. Forcing about half the kuwaiti population to free, some 400,000 people were on the move. The United Nations passed 12 resolutions demanding iraq leave kuwait. Sadaam hussein refused, saying he had the support of the kuwaiti people. By mid january, 1991, a coalition headed by the u. S. Launched operation desert storm, a moment that many say was the beginning of a long end for Sadaam Hussein and his government. Iraqis living in kuwait fled including this man and his family. There was no border left, and when the bombardment started the most important thing for us was to go back to safety. My children were young back then. I drove the car straight from kuwait to iraq. Since that invasion, iraqs had a turbulent history, years of sanctions between 1991 and 2003, followed by the u. S. Invasion and occupation and their civil war between 2006 and 2008 and now isil fighters taking over a third of the country. This man mourns the state of his country and worries about the future of his children. Life in iraq has become a living hell now. Kuwait was much better for us. No one there would dare to bother you there. We even keep our doors open due to good security. Its a sentiment echoed by others who fled. When i returned to iraq, i was 12 years old. I found a huge lifestyle gap. I was shocked and my dreams got shattered. The situation in iraq is still deteriorating after all these years, while in kuwait, its stable. They remember the sacrifices of those who died and hope the violence in iraq doesnt spill over into their country. Imran kahn, al jazeera. I keep waiting for an end whatever it is, but we want im really disappointed. Another one month delay, one month of waiting, one month of just going to the Police Station every night so the whole suffering continues. As we heard earlier in the show the u. S. Secretary of state is in the middle east to ease fears over the recent nuclear deal with iran. He says it will make the region safer. Phyllis dennis joins me now live from washington, d. C. Lets start first with the stop over in cairo for secretary kerry. His visit, does it feel the impression for you that its back to business as usual with the military regime back there despite the lip service about human rights and democracy . I think thats exactly right sami the fact that secretary kerry is there focusing, he says about the next susbetween human rights and security, but in the wake of delivering just this week, half a dozen f16s fighter bombers apache helicopters, a host of other weapons that are part of the 1. 3 billion that the u. S. Is giving to egypt in military aid means that there is no accountability. Whatever he might raise in private in his top level meetings in cairo its clear that there is no conditionality for giving those weapons. In fact, the secretary went on to say that by what will make egypt better able to fight extremism is being wealthy and being strong. He didnt say anything about being democratic, when in fact its the massive repression going on in egypt particularly against the Muslim Brotherhood but massively against ordinary protestors human rights advocates, liberals, a whole range of people now somewhere close to 50,000 people have been arrested since president al sisi was elected in a very contested legitimacy of an election, and i think that its a very dangerous sign because it indicates that in the effort to win support for the iran deal, that the u. S. Is prepared to accept any level of repression of militarization in these absolute monarchys across the gulf and across the arab world. You raise an interesting point there because in addition to the arms supplies to egypt there have been other theres been news of other deals with regimes which have a very questionable human rights record in this part of the world. One wonders when secretary kerry sells the message that this deal with iran will make the region safer, will it make the region safer for regimes or for the actual people . I have no sound. Im afraid weve had a little bit of technical problems there. We apologize. Perhaps well try to get back to that one later. U. S. Firefighters are struggling to contain two fast moving wildfires spreading across northern california. The blazes have burned through more than 9,000 hectares of bush. Sunday is the anniversary of the mass murder of roma people by the nazis during world war ii. The killing of nearly half a Million People has been described as the unreported holocaust. Some europe that countries are reluctant to acknowledge the massacre. We report from hungary. The little town in central hungary, you wouldnt know a single thing about the secrets this place hides. Off the main street, the roads are suddenly unpaved, for this is the roma part of town. During the war, her father was taken from here. He did hard labor as a boy of 14. Her mom was nearly shot and killed on the trip to the shops. She eventually spoke a little about what happened to other family members. My moms grandmother was taken by the local police. The roma were digging their own graves. They were shot and put in them. She tried to escape, but was caught. They shot her, too. Her son agonizes, should he tell his kids what he knows. Its important, but its so shocking. Its hard to explain to the kids. My grandmother told me about beautiful roma woman who smeared excrement on herself so they wouldnt rape her. It was hard for my grandparents. The mass killings of the roma have been described as the unreported holocaust. It appears it might have been worse than countries in Central Europe have been so far prepared to accept. Evidence has been collected. It might be four times as many as thought. They found more than 900 locations from where the roma were taken. Nobody knew, they say, because the roma were never allowed to talk about it. After the war, the roma couldnt feel free. They were persecuted, oppressed, the culture and language was forbidden. Racism and White Supremacism was still there. The roma were taken here to die or be put on the railway line to auschwitz. Other places might have turned this into a museum. Here, its been left to rot. Just up the road, this man, the only roma mayor of the hungarian town despairs in the way the great devouring as the roma put it is air brushed out of schools. The young people i speak to dont know about it. They connect the holocaust with the jews and they dont think it happened to roma people. Im a history teacher and i tell my pupils, but it isnt mentioned in the books. The roma eventually managed to have a memorial put up in budapest, shaped in the black triangle they were forced to wear in the camps. Someone threw yogurt on it. Someone else took a hammer to its side. They are now europes most persecuted group and have neither the means nor the opportunity to write their own history. Al jazeera in hungary. Jerusalem said main highway has been closed because of a major forest fire on the outskirts of the city. Leaders from israel, jordan and palestinian are trying to save the river jordan. Its rare for the three sides to find Common Ground on an issue but the water source is badly polluted and theres a risk it will dry out and thats going to affect all of them. Holding hands in prayer at one of christianitys most important sites. People have waded into the river from the eastern and Western Banks to connect with a core event in their faith the baptism of jesus christ. Israel, which occupies the palestinian side of this section of the river and jordan have long competed for tourists and dollars but now unesco has weighed in on the rivalry, designating the area as the site where jesus is believed to have been. A tides and shared by most christian churches. Just the fact that jesus walked here is astonishing. The jordan river also has significance for judaism and islam. The religious significance is indisputable, but that cant be said for the rest of the region, but in a rare show of cooperation, israel, jordan and the palestinians are working together to try to save it. The 251kilometer river forms a natural border between israel, Israel Occupied palestinian, syria and jordan. Al jazeera was given rare access to a military buffer zone where the impact of pollution and water diversion by the surrounding countries is clear to see. Over the past 50 years, the jordan river has shrunk by 90 . At a recent conference, israel jordan and the palestinians signed a rare agreement to rehabilitate the river by 2050. We invited all the politicians and decisionmakers from the three countries and we saw that there was political will. That political will ensures that none of the projects strengthen israels hold on sections of the jordan valley, which palestinian want as part of their future state. Peace building depends on these issues. I personally think, thats my personal view, so this would be helpful, the three neighboring countries using or sharing the jordan at this part from the galilee down to the sea. One river, three faiths and a commitment from neighbors with complex relationships to preserve their share of religious history for future generations, al jazeera, on the eastern bank of the jordan river. Welcome back now. In hong kong, two daughters have donated parts of their livers to create a whole new one to save the life of their father. As rob mcbride explains, its a medical first and uses a new medical technique. Thankful to be alive, the patient is surrounded by the daughters who saved his life. On their own, their livers were too small, but together by each donating a half, they were able to give their father a new one. I was in despair, because my liver was too small. My sister agreed to return home from overseas. She was our only hope. Double donations like this are rare. What surgeons did that was unique was joining the two halves of the liver before giving it to the patient. We are literally implanting a whole liver into the recipients body and that saves lot of time. It is a further breakthrough for a team that regularly achieves medical landmarks from transplants from living donors. Liver failure is a serious problem here, compounded by a traditional reluctance in Chinese Society to donate organs. Its meant that hong kong has become a world leader in living organ transplantation. The family at the center of this medical first just thankful for a successful operation. Leaked blood results indicated widespread doping over a decade long period. We have this report. Its a sport thats no stranger to controversy, but new allegations of drug use may be the most alarming yet. Test data leaked from the International Athletics federation indicating that blood samples from a third of medal winning athletes at major events were suspicious. These are wild allegations and well have to check them out, and well have that done by the commission as quickly as possible. German broadcaster a. R. D. In the sunday Times Newspaper obtained the results of 12,000 blood tests from 5,000 athletes between 2001 and 2012. Independent experts found that 800 athletes had results that would be considered suspicious under World Antidoping Agency standards. The report identified 146 medals, including 55 golds at the olympics and World Championships that were won by athletes now under question. This is athlete personal data and really, the manner of it coming into the Public Domain should concern every athlete who knows that their own personal data is stored by anti doping organizations across the world. The investigation reported no irregular tests involving the sports biggest name. Last month, he expressed his frustration at the sports inability to move away from scandal. It definitely does upset me because everybody started pointing fingers again and start speculating and it doesnt help the sport in any way. The time period under question, he will be replaced by london 2012 chairman Sebastien Coe that or another. We must continue to educate to educate athletes and work very, very hard and very tough. It will be strong and serious policy to clean sport, to clean athletics and not accept any cheaters. The question is whether it will be enough to prompt change in a sport struggling to salvage its credibility. Athletes will face more spotlight than ever in beijing in three weeks time. In kenya new doping allegation show massive corruption. A response was issued, threatening legal action and said the federation always welcomes any information which would help fight the vice of doping but we cannot fill to point out that the documentary is an attempt to smear our runners with unwarranted suspicion as they prepare to undertake duty for that you are country in beijing. South sudan athletes will be able to compete under their own flag at rio next year for the first time.
