But millions are desperate for help, too. First, to a developing story. Palestinian medical sources says a one year boy has died in an arson attack by jewish settlers. Stephanie, what more details are emerging about this attack in the occupied west bank . Reporter from what we are being told, a group of jewish settlers attacked a home of two brothers. They set those homes alight. The result of that, oneyearold baby boy has died. Also his family, parents and a fouryearold brother are badly injured. Graffiti was found at the scene saying long live the messiah. We have had a response from the israeli army. The spokesperson reads a statement, he said this attack against civilians is nothing short much terrorism. The idea that the israeli army condemns the attacks and heightened its efforts to locate those responsible. They will try to prevent things from getting out of control. Thats very Strong Language from the israelis, calling it a terrorist attack. It is Strong Language. This is unusual for the israeli army. They have used the word before, but it is rare. Its an indication of just how worried they are about any potential backlash to this. The news that a one and a halfyearold baby boy was burned to death inside his home by an attack will not go down well with the palestinians. Having said that, theres no reaction from the palestinian president s office. Hes Holding Israel responsible because of the situation because of the issues with the settlers. Its just to remind you, 350,000 settlers in the occupied west bank. Extremely sensitive. They are known to be violent and protective. They are under international law. And then the army will be incredibly worried and incredibly trying to things under control which is why we are seeing such a statement coming out. All right. Thank you. Now the future of afghanistan has been thrown into doubt by a change in leadership of the taliban. They have confirmed the death of their spiritual leader. Pakistan says fridays talks will not go ahead. More on that in a moment, but first, jennifer glass on the death. Reporter its not clear what changes well see under the new leader. Taliban sources tell al jazeera that he has been involved in making political decisions for the taliban over the last few years. There are obviously two different areas of the taliban. You have the political side and the military side. The fighting has been serious over the last couple of weeks just in the last couple of days taliban fighters have taken dozens of villages as taliban fighters continue to fight across the battle field. Taliban peace talks between taliban representatives and the Afghan Government have been put on hold, but the Afghan Government hopes they will be rescheduled sometime soon and people close to the new leader were involved in the first round of talks on july 7. And that may be reason why the Afghan Government is optimistic that peace talks will continue. The question is what kind of control the taliban leadership has on the fighters. The Peace Council says they hope when they get to the negotiating table, whoever sits down for the taliban will be able to speak for not just the political side, but the military side of the taliban when the fighting is at its most intense. So omar, the taliban leader, gone. A new leader in his place. A crucial time right now for the taliban and the Afghan Government. Richard barrett is a former chief of the monitoring team. He says the new leaders biggest challenge will be to gain the trust of his followers and the Afghan Government. Clearly running the group while omar was dead for the last two and a half years. He couldnt have enough authority over the military to be able to impose any sort of central Decision Making on them. Even now hes forced into admit that omar is dead and he is now leader, he will still have that problem. The problem is compounded because the military side will say you should have told us this before. He will have to try and get some of his military commanders back under his authority which may mean trying to replace them, which will cause infighting or slowly moving towards their position which will compromise the efforts hes been making to engage the Afghan Government. If hes just a political office, there is not very much point in the Afghan Government talking to him. What they want is to stop the fighting not to allow the taliban to come back into some form of government. Malaysias Civil Aviation chief has flown to france to look at a piece of debris which could be a wing flap that washed up on reunion island. They will join the french counterparts. They are due to arrive on saturday. Its almost certainly part of a boeing 777. This is the most credible lead that we have to date of any part of the aircraft that we can locate or we can identify. So pray that our visit to our investigation will come to a fruitful outcome. More important for the closure of this. We have more from reunion island where the debris washed up. Reporter this find could help solve one of the worlds greatest aviation mysteries. It disappeared without a trace last march. But if this piece of wreckage is linked to the flight, what will it tell us. Not very much. This is a part of the wing, it isnt the black box flight recorder and isnt part of the planes engine. But it will confirm to those scouring the bottom of part of the indian ocean that they are looking in the right place. Some of the original modeling shows that a part of the debris could have come this far by this time. And that will help dispel some of the quite wild conspiracy theories that swirled around this planes disappearance that in turn will lead to closure for the families. British workmen have been sent to france to repair fences. Hundreds of migrants have tried to scale the fences and jump on trains bound for britain. Reporter british workmen are in france reinforcing the fences around the eurotunnel complex. They hope this is enough to keep migrants out and stop them from boarding tracks and trains to get across the channel. In britain the newspapers are shrill something must be done to keep migrants out. The prime minister, sensitive to the mood at home, used perhaps insensitive language to describe the situation. This is very testing. I accept that. You got a swarm of people coming across the mediterranean seeking a better life, wanting to come to britain because britain has got jobs, its got a growing economy its an incredible place to live. We need to protect our borders by working with our neighbors the french, and thats what we are doing. Reporter this is the existing fence around the tunnel complex. Reinforced with barbed wire. It does look as if some people have forced their way through cut over the wire. Above there is a sign that says danger of death in several languages warning people not to go through. Beyond, there is more barbed wire and then a second fence. Again, reinforcements at the top of that second fence. You have to be really, really determined to try and get through here and try and board one of those trains like the one thats just going past right now. Shortly afterwards, a team arrived to repair the hole. And so the game of cat and mouse goes on. The real action happens after dark when the migrants hope it will be easier to get across undetected. On this occasion, the French Police manage to keep them out. Outside cali hospital i met a syrian man who wouldnt show his face.
