True. We have a trail of dna inspired sculptureing will bring millions for charities. And michel pl latini will run for fifa president. More coming up. The envoy for syria has proposed solutions to end syrias civil war. The new proposals have been made while keeping the Syrian People in mind. Before he began his briefing ban kimoon outlined the needs of syria. 250,000 people have been killed since the war began four years ago. And 10 million have been forced from their homes. And he added that atrocious crimes are almost an hourly occurrence. Here are some of the u. N. Special envoys briefing. The deepening tragedy to not leave any stone unturn to the ongoing syria conversation that are taking place were hearing them which may require more time and maybe linked on developments. We just tried to develop recommendations guided by the views and analysis shared with us during the consultations. The Syrian People have been consulted. This was their opportunity. In the briefing in new york at the u. N. James bays joins us life now. Anything dramatically different in what they had to present . No, they tried High Level International conferences theyve tried peace talks. Now there is syrians discussing the issues. There are other things going on in the region. And they believe that they need time for those to play out in order to have opportunity to have talks down the line. Theyll wait until the time is right until a big push on peace. Now those things going on in the region some of them are the military situation on the ground where president assad is certainly loseing some ground. The thought is if he continues to do badly on the battlefield his government might be more willing to compromise at peace talks. There is the iran nuclear deal. The talk now is that the deal has been done, it has to be readified by some of the governments involved, then a conference can start between iran and some of the others countries that find themselves on the other side of the argument in syria. The last piece of the poz is the change of the position of turkey. The thought is all of those things are moving, and the special envoy and his team wants to see how they play out before starting some new peace talks which they calculated at this stage would fail. Thats why they have a holding plan for these groups for the next couple of weeks. The opportunity or possibility of a transitional governing body but the problem it has always faced that possible solution the past four years, anyway, is now president assad still resolute. Anything youve heard on that front from the u. N. . This problem one that is talking talked about all the time. They have a phrase for it untying the Assad Nottingham foster, and it is a real problem. It should be transitional governing body, which would have full executive power in syria in a transition to a new syria they say that president assad is the president of syria and it is nonnegotiable. Thank you. Rebels in syria say that theyve gained ground against Government Troops in the north close to the turkish border. Theyre claiming to capture several villages and check points from the syrian government. We have reports now on the fighting in the countryside around the city of idlib. They hold on to the village for years but along with several others its now in the hands of the so socalled fattah army. Theyre trying to topple the syrian government. We started to use heavy artillery in the villages and area. We managed to control the hills. We also control areas. They show us damaged Syrian Army Tanks and the power station they have overrom. Theyre claiming these as major gains that will allow them to breach breach president bashar alassads control. With the support of allah well be in their strongholds. If they make it that far its unclear who they will find there. Four years at war many have fled to other countries. Some rebel groups are calling the fighting around idlib the battle of victory. In this drawn out conflict victim is harder hard to define. Israeli forces have fought in the occupied west bank. Successful broke out as forces began demolishing two partially built apartment blocks. It comes after Israels Supreme Court ruled the two buildings were constructed illegally on palestinianowned land. Stephanie dekker has more now from the occupied west bank. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has publicly stated in the la few days that these buildings should not be demolished. But the appeal at the high court has failed, and this demolition has been going on for the past several hours. The reaction that weve had is that the Prime Minister has come out and said he has reapproved the building of 300 more unites in this senate. This is seen as a move to appease the settlers. He also has a shaky situation in the israeli parliament. He holds 61 seats and hes coming under fire. He seems to have imposeed settlement construction freeze over the past year. And people monitoring the situation on the ground say that is not the case. Its always been i dont know going but perhaps the planning has slowed down. This is palestinian land. This is proven that the israeli high courts has those documents. The Palestinian Family who owns it will not be getting it back. If the settlers gave permission to build structures then they can rebuild it. It just shows the situation in this region is extremely difficult. It goes to show that this government the Israeli Government not genuine partner for peace. Israels parliament is due to vote on the force feeding of prisoners on hunger strike. Kiddeddics say that palestinians held without charge could be targeted under the legislation. The turkish government has been holding emergency parliamentary session to discuss its involvement in the fight against isil. But prokurdish politicians say similar attacks on pkk targets targets are threatening the peace negotiations that started in in 2012. Turkish jets have been bombing kurdish fighters in the southeast and inside northern iraq. To simultaneously fight not three terrorist groups but 33. We will fight until public order is restored. Bernard smith joins us live now in southern turkey. Tell us more about what was said in parliament. This is the first time in recent years that they had a vote called for by one of the main opposition parties. Once all the parties were sat in parliament all the opposition groups uniformly took the opportunity to attack the ruling party, blaming it for its approach forwards isil for the Current Situation in turkey culminating in the attack on the border near syria. They say the failure to address the isil threat early on, ignoring it, and even allowing isil fight tours cross back and forth has allowed the security situation to deteriorate. As you could imagine the party defended its position and said it has registered and logged isil as a terrorist Organization Since 2013 and has carried out operations against it. Interestingly, though, no particular criticism in parliament from the opposition parties about the airstrikes on the pkk, saved for the prokurdish party new in parliament, they have spoken out against the threats of to the peace process. Tell bus the peace process. It started in 2012. I assume it was a pretty strained moment then. Where are we at with it . S been strained for some time and now its almost in tatters. Thethere have been no further talks with the pkk until they put down their weapons and leave turkey. Another party member did say there could be talks if the right conditions were fulfilled. The problem is that the pkk was once very well unioned unified organization from the top down put but these days theyre not easily controlled. Theyre responsible for a lot of lowlevel attacks taking place in turkey, kidnappings killings even road check points. Its not clear whether the main pkk leadership can control this one state as well as they once cooed. Bernard smith joining us live from turkey. Thank you. Still ahead on the al jazeera news hour well tell you how children as young as 13 are drafted in to fight isil in iraq. The British Government hold as crisis meeting as more migrants try to access the tunnel. And in sports rory mcilroy could lost his number one golf ranking as early as next week. Well have more details. Now this confusion about the fate of Afghan Taliban leader mullah omar. The afghan leaders say that he died two years ago. But that is being denied by the taliban itself. There have been rumors of his death in the past, but none were ever confirmed. The u. S. Said that they believe the latest reports about omars death are credible. Lets go to kabul and speak with al jazeeras jennifer glasse. A very confusing situation. What else are you hearing . Thats right barbara, well two sources sources in the Afghan Government. The afghan president s office and the spokesman for the intelligence saying that they believe that omar died in a hospital in karachi in 2013. The Afghan Taliban denying that to al jazeera saying that mullah omar is alive. Mullah omar has always been a reclusive figure. He has not been seen in public since 2001 and there are only a couple of photographs of him as well. So hes always been an elusive reclusive figure really the only confirmation of his leadership in any kind of tangible form has been audio recordings released by him. Of course, after the 2011 u. S. Led invasion here he went into hiding and said that he was staying reclusive because he didnt want to be able to targeted by International Forces or the americans here. But now conflicting reports about whether he is alive or dead the Afghan Government claiming not only is he dead, he died in 2013 the Afghan Taliban denying that. And just two questions if you can jennifer, first of all where do the Afghan Government say theyre getting their information from, if theyre revealing it, and what impact will this have between the taliban and Afghan Government peace talks that is meant to kick off in two days time . Well, barbara, we understand that the source of the information, the Afghan Government has been pakistani authorities. Those peace talks scheduled for friday are to be held in pakistan. The impact of this announcement and denial by the taliban is unclear. Members of the High Peace Council didnt even know who from the taliban were going to be at the negotiating table on friday. They were hoping that whoever it is will have broad support among taliban fighters because the fighting continues. Were hearing also that another district has fallen in the south today. Now that district in hellman province fighting falling to the taliban. The Afghan Government, mullah omar the spiritual leader of the taliban they believe hes dead. What kind of impact it will have on peace talks is difficult to say right now. Thank you. Now lets cross to the u. S. Washington, d. C. And speak with roslind jordan. The past half hour or so weve had some kind of reaction from the u. S. Tell us a little bit more. The Deputy White House press secretary eric schultz simply said that the administration believes that the report of mullah omars death is are credible. But when pressed a half hour into the briefing he said that intelligence officials here in the United States are reviewing those reports. So basically there is no confirmation from washington that mulla omar is alive or dead simply that they dont have any reason at this moment to doubt the credibility of the reports. So, of course, it races the next question what did u. S. Intelligence know about mullah omar if anything, and when did they know it if they ever did know it, and mr. Schultz has not been able to answer those questions during the daily White House Press briefing. Roslind, thank you. A former pakistan high commissioner to the u. K. And hes with us in the studio. Thank you for joining us here on al jazeera. Very confusing picture. What do you make of it . Well, what do you make of it, there is a lot of confusion about mullah omar. But do you think that the reports are credible . I think he had been roaming about for medical treatment. But this news has come as a surprise because it said that he died two years ago in karachi and our sources have made no comment so far. So that mines well, the pakistani Government Security services have always denied that omar was in pakistan. Yes, they have denied that he was in pakistan, but again if he needed some medical aid he could have easilyhe had been treated in hospitals when it was nearby and pakistan seems to have knowledge of him where he was. But again at the home because we were trying to hold talks between fall taliban and the government, and the americans were there. It was a very good talk after it had been blessed by omar, and they began to move forward. Our perception is that by the timing of this news is rather intriguing because it comes at a time when the talks were go into into the second phase, and some of our adversaries. What are saying, that this news that was put out is meant to destabilize the talks . Defuse some of the talks. Create confusion and division. As far as weve heard we heard a correspondent in afghanistan saying that as things stand the talks are still due to go on. The they will stand. They will continue the talks. The talks will continue. There was no word that the talks have been intercepted. We heard that talks would continue and there were comments that the talks would be held. Now let me bring you down. Ultimately ultimately it would be the taliban who would confirm if their leader has died or not and neither parties have confirm. Do you think these reports are credible . Again, you cant make it out unless someone has seen it. This is the first time that we have a name. There is someone in the Afghan Government spokesperson for the security that put their name to it. That means that that he died there. If they know it, then its through. But karachi pakistan, we have heard no reports so far and i would think they would come out. Thank you. Thank you very much. Pakistani police say they shot dead the leader of the banned group that has been behind hundreds of killings in the country. Shot in a shootout with the Security Forces in forces forces in punjab region. The migrant crisis intensifies at the tunnel entrance. 15,000 migrants have tried to get in calais on tuesday night. A migrant from sudan was killed when he was hit by a truck. Hes the ninth person to die near the tunnel entrance since june. Migrants have been jumping on lorries on their way and others on trains. Theyre hoping to get to the u. K. Well the channel tunnel between calais france, and folks in the u. K. It understand under the English Channel and 400 trains pass through it each day carrying on average 50,000 passengers. There are two types of trains that go through the tunnel. There are shuttle trains that are filled with cars and vehicles. That has been the weak point in recent nights where migrants have tried to storm on to trucks into cars, which then load on to trains. Then there are the passenger trains, which come from paris and go through to london. Some of them dont stop in calais at all. Much more difficult for the migrants to try and get onto those trains. And no migrants have succeeded in walking the entire length of the tunnel. Politically the atmosphere is increasingly acrimonious. While the french and British Government are talking about cooperation, there is a lot of bad words between euro tunnel officials and the french government. The euro officials saying we need law and order restored. And the french saying that the Company Needs to do more to secure the perimeter of the tunnel entrance. Well, were joined now in studio by the asylum aid organization. Thank you for being with us here on al jazeera. You have two major countries in europe. One of the wealthiest countries in the world that have good relations. They dont seem to be able to handle all of this, the u. K. Saying its on france territory, now they have to deal with it, now were hearing from Barnaby Phillips that the tunnel itself is being blamed. How do you think this situation this should be handled . Calais is viewed by the u. K. In particular the focus of the entire u. K. European migrant crisis but it just represents one part of the Bigger Picture. There is a real need for british politicians to take into account this Bigger Picture and act with more bravery and foresight. Meaning what . What i mean we keep getting new announcements that were going to build a higher fence cordon off the area in calais. None of these measures anyone truly believes will address the fundamental causes of the problem. And this is just one of the hot spots between france and the u. K. There was another hot spot between france and the media obviously we have lampedusa sicily and now the thoroughfare of greece to the balkans. In that light do you think that this should be a special way of handling the situation in calais . Well there, is a special way of handling it. We have european asylum, which includes legislation that governors which member state should be responsible for protesting in the asylum operation. This is commonly known as the regulation. They should apply when they land which usually tends to be italy, so france would say this is not our problem either. What the french has done they have the foresight we cant expect italy to shoulder in burden alone. Apart from the fact that there is not the will to do t but theyre not capable of doing it. Theyre completely overburdened. Well, some stand up and say well relocate some Asylum Seekers from italy and greece, and in exchange we can expect them to be more rigorous about controlling the it has been a lot of European Countries have refused to have the socalled quotas. It is an interesting idea that maybe there should be support centers for migrants in niger. Going back anded and using applications and sending them back to place of origin. This is something that looks like theyre doing something and making an announcement that doesnt do because we already have a an asylum program. Ifif they fall under the requirements then they can stay and if not theyre already subject to be removeed. Thats the procedure we already have in place. This is the home secretary trying really hard to look like shes doing something and not addressing the problem in a longterm way. May be have tried to address this problem over the last few months and years. Thank you very much. Well, still more to come in the al jazeera news hour including traveling in trucks, commuteers stranded in el salvador as bus drivers say Gang Violence is making it too dangerous to work. Plus in sport we will have more later. What did you see when you went outside last year . There was a dead body in the middle of the street. For 5 hours. Theres a lot of work to be done. They need to quite talking about what should be done and do it. Now a reminder of the top stories here in al jazeera. A special envoy to syria has new proposals for the end of the civil war. The Supreme Court ordered the destruction of two veh atlanta apartment blocks after the government failed to legalize their construction. Afghan government says that mullah omar, leader of the taliban is dead. But the taliban deny it is. The investigation of the downing of the Malaysian Airline plane over ukraine one year ago. Russian president Vladimir Putin has indicated that moscow will veto the resolution. Manyukraine blame the separatists of shooting down the plane. Moscow deny those charges. Part of an aircraft wing was washed up on the indian ocean is part of a wreckage of a flight mh 370 which went missing march march 2014. Theyre convinced that it is part of a wing from a boeing 77, the same type of plane as mh 370. Lets go to iraq where children as young as 13 are being recruited to help fight isil as the offensive against the armed group continues. I ami amimran khan reports. Theyre learning deadly skills. Theyre being taught to fight. The teenagers have answered the call by the cleric, its not just about weapons and surviving in a war zone. Its also about indoctrination, believing that their fight is justice. Were here at this camp answering the call to defend our lands from terrorism. Were getting courses on weapons, rules of engagement and first aid. Were also getting islamic doctrine lessons. They use the same mix of battlefield tactics and religion. Both sides are entrenched, and both sides say theyre right. Not all the recruits buy into the doctrine. This is hamza not his real name. Hes asking that his identity be concealed. He believes speaking out will bring revenge attacks against him and his family. Look at sons of officials. Most of them are living abroad in safety. Why dont they come back and defend our lands . I used to fight at one of the fronts in fallujah. My friend was seriously injured and died a few days later. My family did not allow me to go back. I lost interest in fighting because i saw many young men dieing in vein. I saw many living a prosperous life elsewhere. That anger against iraqis who dont join the fight is typical here and feel its the militias, in particular the shia ones that are leading against isil. The number of casualties is high. The haas is prohibited by law from supplying military aid to any regime with underage soldiers. Prophetics of the militias say that theyre recruiting people so young is because of losses on the battlefield. Thats a charge that the militias deny but by no means is this a new thing. Saddam hussein used to use young recruits. He called them his lyon cubs. This was simply a continuation of that tradition. This is a show of loyalty from the young for iraq in the fight against isil. Nigeria recently elected president is in cameroon for talks about the fight against the armed group of boko haram. It is part of the group set up to fight the armed group. With the Nigerian Military pushing boko haram out of many towns its fighters are instead starting densely Populated Areas in large scale attacks such as car bombings. We traveled to one hospital in northeastern nigeria to meet some of the victims of those attacks. Floating in and out of consciousness for a week now one of the victims of the last suicidebomb attacks in gombe. He and his father are the bread winners of the family are fighting for their lives. There istheir businesses are completely destroyed. His recovery is a long way off. As in many areas of the northeast similar cases occur after the recent rise of suicidebomb attacks. The injured have all sort of trauma. Physical and mental, and there is something that theyll have to manage. For now that is a predicament facing many in hospitals here. Most of the patients in this ward are victims of boko haram attacks. Over the last six months hundreds of dead and injured have passed through here. The hospital has seen an significant increase in the number of victims as boko haram fighters increase suicidebomb attacks. The father of seven who was injured just as he finished work. Hes afraid of going back to work or going near a crowd. The risks are just too much. You are a target at home or on the highway. There are threats everywhere, but you have a family to feed. If i could get a job away from here, i would just leave. He is not alone. Many traders and businesses have been destroyed by these attacks families impoverished. The priority now is to avoid being hit. Fears of another attack continue. Al jazeera. Gambe, nigeria. The verdict in the retrial of three al jazeera journalists is due to be handed down in a cairo court on thursday. Mohamed fahmy, Baher Mohammed are accused of can lewding with the Muslim Brotherhood charges they deny. Peter greste is being tried in abstentia. We spoke to peter. After more than a year in jail in february peter greste was deported from egypt and returned to australia. Technically free. In cairo in abstentia hes still on trial. Sitting here in sydney do you feel like a free man . I think it sounds ridiculous sitting in this glorious sydney sunshine pretty much able to go and do whatever i want to, but the fact is that i dont feel like a free man. Were still caught up in this judicial process. Were still on trial im on trial along with my colleagues. We still have a campaign to fight. We still have a legal battle to fight. There is still the prospect of a conviction. So no, i dont feel free. What is your hope for the verdict . Im hoping that the judge will see lack of evidence and throw the whole thing out. There was no more evidence that the prosecutor was able to produce in this trial than the first. Its quite clear we were not involved in any of the things that the prosecute has accused us of. Were not involved in terrorism. We have no connections with the Muslim Brotherhood beyond the work of normal journalists. We did not broadcast any false news. As long as the quart court looks at the evidence. What is your fear . My biggest fear is that not just convictions but the sanctions will be upheld. The court cant give us heavier sentences, but it can confirm the original sentences. Obviously for me that would be an inconvenient. Im not going back to prison because im here but that is bad for mohamed fahmy, Baher Mohammed thats my concern. What are the consequences . It could well mean going back to prison. Were hoping that if they get a guilty verdict at the most they may end up with sentences for time served. That would be mean that they would be able to walk free immediately. For me it would an little more difficult because it would mean that i would have to be under the same restrictions as all the oar journalists convicted in abstentia in the first trial. Which means i cant go anywhere that doesnt have an extradition treaty with egypt and that would be difficult as a correspondent. Were expecting the verdict on thursday. Supreme court judges in bangladesh have upheld the death sentence given to a leading opposition figure. He was found guilty of crimes committed during the 1971 war of independence. We have reports from dhaka. For a man who used to be a trusted and powerful adviser to a Prime Minister, its been a hard fall from grace. He was sentenced to death in in 2013 for helping the Pakistani Army during bangladeshs war of independence. But these defending him say that the charges are all about politics. Helping the Pakistan Army to kill men and women of his locality. [ gunfire ] the 1971 war was brief but brutal. Several people who collaborated with the Pakistani Army are accused of orchestrating mass orders and mass rapes. It wasnt until 2010 that the war crimes trials began. But most of those charged are Senior Leaders of opposition parties. Their supporters have clashed violently with police. Claiming the trials are a way to go ahead writ of governments enemies. Hundreds of opposition activists have been killed since. Thousands have been jailed. The trial has its own vocal sets of supporters. He abducted, tortured, and committed killings and murder. In the midst of the politics. Issue of justice for victims has often been overshadowed. Even in the rain several visitors come to this memorial site where there is a mass execution in 1971. Those who did commit war crimes should be punish however rich and powerful they are they should be punished. But we should make sure that it is the people who committed the crimes. Even after 44 years the past continues to haunt the public and. The government says that these verdicts are necessary in order for bangladesh to move on from previous tragedies. As long as suppression of opposing voices continue, questions will be raised about how fair these trials are. Al jazeera. Bus drivers in he will sal have a door have gone on strike saying Gang Violence has made it too dangerous to work. We have reports now from the capital san salvador. Buses stop, people crammed in trucks and a morning commute. Gangs have ordered the killing of bus drivers from prison cells bringing chaos to the streets. It seems that there is little that the government can do. The gangs have shown that they have the power. The 18th street gang ordered buses to stop running or people would pay the price. More pressure from the gangs perhaps to, force negotiations for a truce as the government cracks down on them. More than half does bus drivers have been murdered since sunday. Some buss are still going out on their routes but only with heavy Police Protection because the drivers and the riders say that they fear for their lives. This bus driver is fearful but work is scarce and he has to feed his family. The question is who controls security, the government or the gangs and left it to the spokesman. Its not part of our strategy. Were not going to negotiate communicate or make any packet pact with these criminal groups. Its terrorism and sabotage of the public transpore system. This year dozens of Police Officers and members of judges families have been killed. This Opposition Leader said that the government is facing a crisis worse than the civil war and is in denial. The government has to be humble enough to recognize what everybody sees in the open. That what theyve done. One gang leader exclusively told al jazeera that the solution lies outside of san salvador. The International Community has to play an Important Role because in any social, political or mill conflict it is the International Community that can analyze things the best because were caught up in National Politics and that blinds us to reality.
