[cheering and applause] you see thats freedom. The kind of freedom thats the cornerstone of the american dream. And so weve got a plan to help people live that dream the plan to help people create more jobs and higher weadges and you know what it wages. And you know what it starts with . We got to repeal obamacare once and for all [cheering and applause] we need to repeal the socalled Affordable Care act and put patients and families back in charge of their Health Care Decisions not the federal government. [cheering and applause] many of you here know whether i first became governor i literally allowed the state to join the federal lawsuit against obamacare on my very first day. We need a president who on the first day will call on the congress to once and for all repeal obamacare entirely [cheering and applause] then, then we need to rein in the out of control federal regulations that are like a blanket on the economy. Lets get rid of the federal red tape. As governor i called for a block and we can get this economy going again. [cheering and applause] next, we need to put in place an all of the above energy policy, to say were going to use the abundance of what god has given to us on this continent. [cheering and applause] thats right. We are an energyrich country and we can literally start refueling our economic recovery. We need a president who on day 1 will approve the keystone pipeline. [cheering and applause] thats right approve that pipeline and put in place a plan to level the Playing Field for all the forms of energy and then, we need to help the people get the education and the skills that they need to succeed. Because we know if we can do that we can membership people find careers that pay far more than the minimum wage. Here in wisconsin we reform Public Education and we provided more quality choices. Quality choices for families because you see i trust families and i trust parents to make the right decisions for their children. I believe [cheering and applause] i believe that every child every child regardless of zip code or background or what their parent does for a living, i believe every child deserves access to better education, be it a charter or a clois or a private choice or a private or home school generation, every child deserves access to great education. [cheering and applause] thats why i want to work and you know what, along with that i want to make sure we have high standards. But those standards should be set at the local level. No common core, no nationwide score board. [cheering and applause] thats why ill work so hard to take power and money out of washington and send it back to our states and our schools where its more effective more efficient and more accountable to the American People [cheering and applause] now, think about this. If you were to take a dollar out of your purse or your wallet, where would you rather spend that, in washington or at your Childs School . Id rather spend it at your Childs School and if you give me the chance well send those dollars back to your Childs School. Cheern. [cheering and applause] and then we need to lower the burden on our taxpayers so you can keep more of your hardearned dollar. [cheering and applause] we need to do that for individuals. We need to do that for individuals as well as jobcreators because we need to make our john creators competitive in the world so they can bring more jobs back from overseas to put more of our fellow americans to work back here in america. [cheering and applause] and you know what . We can do it. We can do it because we did it in wisconsin and we can do it in washington. Now, some people wonder why i spend so much time focused on lowering the tax burden here and why i want to do it in washington. Some of you know that tonette and i like to shop at kohls i go to the rack where it was 29. 99 and now its 19. 99 and we go to the Cash Register and get the insert from the sunday newspaper or the flier back at home where you get 15 or 20 or if youre really lucky 30 off right . You know what im talking about. And then as the clerk is ringing it up tonette scoops into her purse and pulls out some of that kohls cash and next thing you know theyre paying me to buy the shirt right . [cheering and applause] well account not really but it seems well, not really but it seems like it right . How does kohls make money . They make it off of volume, right . They lower the price broaden the base and make more money off of volume. Thats what i think about your money, the taxpayers money. The government could charge you a higher rate than some of us could afford, if you lower the rate, expand the volume, we expand the number of people who are able to participate in the economy. [applause] years ago, years ago we used to call that a similar plan was successful under president Ronald Reagan and back then we used to call it the lafer curve. Laugher curve. Today i call it the kohls curve. If you can spend your money the economy will get a whole lot better. [applause] to prosper however we need to live in a safe and stable world. Thats why im for true safety. Commander in chief has a sacred duty to protect the American People. In my lifetime the best president when it comes to National Security and Foreign Policy was a governor from california. [cheering and applause] under his leadership we rebuilt the military. We stood up for our allies. We stood up to our enemies. And without apology we stood for american values. [cheering and applause] that led to one of the most passionsful times in modern american history. Sadly today under the obamaclinton doctrine, its not that way. A president drew a line in the sand and allowed it to be crossed. A president who called i. S. I. S. The jv squad iran a place we can do business with. Iran think about that [ booing ] when my brother david and i were kids, i can remember tying ribbons around our tree in the house during the 444 days that iran held 52 americans hostage. One of those hostages was kevin herman who grew up down the road in oak creek. Kevin was the youngest of the hostages. A marine who had just been assigned to the u. S. Embassy in tehran. Kevin is here with us. Today. [cheering and applause] kevin knows that iran is not a place to do business with. You see iran hasnt changed much since the day he and the other hostages were released on president reagans first day in office. Looking ahead we need to terminate the bad deal with iran on the very first day in office. [cheering and applause] we feed to terminate that we need to terminate that deal on the very first day in office. Put in place crippling economic sanctions on iran and convince our allies to do exactly the same thing. [cheering and applause] earlier there year, president obama declared he proclaimed that the greatest threat to future generations is global warming, climate change. [ boos ] well mr. President i respectfully disagree. The greatest threat to future generations is radical islamic terrorism and we need to do something about it [cheering and applause] we can start we can start by lifting the political restrictions on our military personnel already in iraq. And empower them to help our kurd and sunni allies reclaim the territory taken by i. S. I. S. Because you know what on behalf of your children and mine id rather take the fight to them instead of when they bring the fight to us [cheering and applause] we need to acknowledge that israel is an ally and start treating israel like an ally [cheering and applause] there should be no daylight between our two countries. Thats why early this year when i went to israel i not only met with the Prime Minister, i met with the opposition leader, to let them know that if i were president there would be no daylight between the United States and israel Going Forward [cheering and applause] we need to stop the aggression of russia into sovereign nations. You see putin putin believes in the old lenin principle that you probe with bayonets. If you find mush you push. Under obama and clinton. Putin has found a whole lot of mush over the past few years. [applause] the United States needs a Foreign Policy that will put steel in front of our enemies. [cheering and applause] we need to stop chinas cyber attacks, slow their entry into International Waters and slow their abysmal human rights record. [cheering and applause] and we need to have the capacity to protect our National Security interests here and abroad and those of our allies, that begins that begins by rebuilding the Defense Budget by going back to the levels proposed by secretary of defense gates. [applause] we need to honor our men and women in uniform by giving them the resource he that they need to resources they need to be safe and Going Forward by giving them the quality and Timely Health care that they deserve when they return home. [cheering and applause] but most of all the best way we can honor them is by fighting to win. You see, this is important our goal should be peace but there will be times when america must fight. And if we must, americans fight to win. [cheering and applause] Going Forward the world must know that there is no greater friend and no worsen my than the United States of worse enemy than the United States of americaamerica u. S. A u. S. A u. S. A u. S. A. u. S. A, u. S. A u. S. A. America, america is a great country. Its a great country. And you know what . We just have to start leading again. Its not too late. We can do it because we have done it before. Think about it. Veterans like claire condin and bob turner remind me that what makes America Great what makes us exceptional what makes us the greatest country in all of the world has been all throughout our history in times of crisis, be it economic or fiscal, be it military or spiritual, there have been men and women of courage who have been willing to stand up and think more about future generations than they thought about their own political futures, ladies and gentlemen this is one of those times in american history. Yes [cheering and applause] and so after a great deal of thought and a whole lot of prayer we are we are so honored to join with us here today as we official announce that we are running to officially announce that we are running to serve as your president of the United States of america [cheering and applause] tonette and i want our sons, matt and alex, and all the other sons and daughters like them, to grow up in a country that is as great, as great as the country we inherited. Americans deserve a president who will fight and win for them. [cheering and applause] someone who will stand up for the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness [cheering and applause] someone who will stand up for our religious freedoms and all of our other constitutional rights. [cheering and applause] someone who will stand up for america. You see it doesnt matter if you come from a big city or suburb or small town, i will fight and win for you. Healthy [cheering and applause] healthy or sick. Born or unborn. I will fight and win for you young or old. Or anywhere in between. I will fight and win for you. [cheering and applause] over the years ive met some amazing people. Many of whom have come here from other places around the world. I got to tell to you a person, the people i met told me the reason they came here was not to become dependent on the government. The reason they came here was because america is one of the few places in the world where doesnt matter what your parents did for a living or your place in the world in america you can do and be anything you want. That is the american spirit. [cheering and applause] you see you see in america the opportunities should be equal for all of us. But the outcome well, thats up to each and every one of us and across this great country. Thats why we just took a day off to celebrate the 74th of july and the 4th of july and not the 15th of april because in america we celebrate our independence of the government not our dependence on it. [applause] thats why i love america. Thats why we, we, we love america. And thats why working together, we can fight and win for america. Thank you for coming out. God bless you all for being here. God bless our military and may god continue to bless the United States of america Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker with his wife tonette and their two children on stage there. At waukesha center, it must be quite warm there because you can see the sweat on his brow. He says the United States needs a smaller federal government with more conservative social values. Jeannie zano professor of Political Science at new york state university. How did you think about his speech . It points a very stark picture of what he wants to do as president. When you contrast that with donald trump here scott walker is talking about drug testing people who are going to be getting food stamps. He is talking about concealed weapons, he has a number of things hes done in stark contrast with what the democrats are after. I think hes going to get a good play out in place is like iowa, with the conservative platform hes putting forward. He talks about for example the test scores going up, they went up before he went into office, he cant take credit for that. He talks about creating 200 thousand jobs, he created 150,000. We have to contest some of what he says. Michael you had an opportunity to watch there. What did you make of it and how significant were governor walkers efforts to reintroduce himself to the American People and try to get away from the image of him just being the unionbusting governor that made him so famous three years ago . I think the timing of the day and his speech when you listen to it david is not just a little bit ironic. Hillary clinton today giving a big speech embracing unions, taking an endorsement from randy winegarten. And you have scott walker criticizing a deal before it even lapse. Hes talk about issues that america is talking about distancing himself from the administration. As jeannie said, hes not afraid to say hes opposed hes a neighbor to iowa in wisconsin he before donald trump changed that equation a little bit he was winning in iowa. Not just like you said david not be just the unionbusting guy. Scott walker is a pretty good public speaker. He may have dropped off a little bit in the end as the energy in the audience dropped off a bit. But is that the reasons why hes breaking through so far . Yes, i do think so. I think people underestimate scott walker, hes been divisive in wisconsin divisive nationally but hes an excellent politician, hes good at his job, at the business of politician. Hes run so much for office, be he has a wide network of National Republicans who are able to fund that campaign. He comes into iowa with not just a geographic advantage he has a wide network that will i think help move his candidacy in iowa. Hes that guy. Behind jeb bush and rand paul and ted cruz when it comes to financing. How crucial is it for scott walker to use the Iowa Caucuses . They need to do very will in iowa thats when were going to see him on his winnebago tour. If he can propel himself out of there he does have the fundraising. He has support out of there. Thats a man who has won 14 times in his life and won 12 of those races many of them by wide margins. He has been a politician all of his life. He is definitely in the tom tier of these republican candidates. Jeb bush, scott walker and coe rubio are the ones to beat. He is an amazing speaker lets not forget his father is a minister, he grew up like this. He has been making speeches since he was in school. Perhaps starting with scott walker talking about july 4th as being a holiday where we celebrate our independence from the government, that the not quite what 4th of july means but it works for conservatives right . It does work for conservatives. And saying rond reagan two Ronald Reagan two or three times that helps and when he says i will repeal obamacare that works. Again, scott walker becomes the 15th prominent republican to enter the race. Well have more on our news at 7 00. Im david schuster. The news starts. Hello, everybody, this is al jazeera america.
