Like you create atrocities on the ground. You target cultural institutions and universities, museums, Cultural Heritage sites. And then you start to target the cultural creators. So the poets, the writers, the artist, the, basically the people who are reclaiming their own narrative and writing about the atrocities that they go through every single day. So every day im sitting here thinking about, well, how do you actually erase of people . And thats how you do it. So i do agree, i do completely agree with what . Well, im not saying that i dont its, its a very rude. And its a very powerful statement to serena. Um to say that the next into father could be cultural, could be i just stick. What is your take here in terms of whats been happening until now . And israels position with regards to policy and culture of palestinian arch. Everything that humanizes palestinians as ahmed put it to yes. So historically, this is not the 1st time that policy and control institutions have been targeted. In the 1940s alhambra sentiment was targeted in the National Museum in jerusalem and 1948. And then of course, the looting of post in archives, which included films, photos, and music to this day post to me and did you not have access to those . Theyre being stored in the, the, is really archives. So we, this is not the 1st time there is a concerted effort and intentional effort to target putting cultural institutions. Because if you, if you erase the people as one thing, but if you erase the peoples culture, you erase their, tied to the land. And weve seen that through various initiatives to build on top of pals to mean villages, historically and through the continued reading of custody and archives of, im my, are you actually been sharing your work on palestinian archives on social media . Im would you say that these archives just gained renewed importance in view of everything thats been happening well, so ive been sharing, posting in archives online, at least since 2015. And what ive noticed is, every time there is a conflict or something happens and occupied palestine or eliza or, you know, in the, there the re shares start to rise again. And mostly for a very long time that was from the palestinian community. But now id say its become a little bit different to where my video is in my posts. And whenever i post about historic power assign gets shared far and wide. And i think that because i think people, i mean i dont want to generalize, but i think a lot of people only see palestine as this. You know, wars zone or area where people there theyre not read like they dont really see. Posting is people, they just see them as their victims or terrorists. And now theres this. Theres this hungry to learn more about what palestine was like before all of this or, or, or what other students are like and what their stories are. And so i have been seeing a general, you know, should, which are sharing of my work, but i havent seen quite before. And i think that, that, i mean, its great. I think its interesting. Yeah, ahmed, i wanna go back to the freedom theater. Janine is known to be a center for validating and resistance across the westbank, where to the idea for the theater come from you know, its going to bump this energy and all this eh, b and stuff, the resistance we want to resist. The idea is exactly is about the i think that the so is about that as well as well. Earlier to mention of finding us is through everything to the account in a new phone that quote, and theres been a television this deal with this deal on history dispute all of this deal, a lot of dreams. Because that is precisely what was that was putting before the power of resisting through ours. Im obviously, and you mentioned this before as well. Whats happening to balancing and culture is not new. Weve been talking about it for a while, but whats happening to the co true heritage in gaza is enormous. The physical destruction as im it, but it is wide spread. What is going to be the long term impact of this . You know, the, theres an african progress that says when an elder dies, a Library Burns to the ground. And if we think the number of elders that we have lost throughout this genocide, its hundreds upon thousands of or thousands upon thousands of libraries at this point. And a half burned to the ground because we have not only lost these individuals, we have lost their stories. We have lost recipes their songs. We have lost everything that they knew of. 1948831948 palestine. There was a woman who was interviewed at the beginning of this genocide. Names had had the announcer and she was born in 1944. And she had stories of, of pre pre 9048 co sign. And unfortunately she was lost and she was killed. And i just keep thinking back to the stories that we lost with her. There was an academic cruise, named at the columbia shush, who was a folklorist, a prominent folklorist, who kept posted in folklore and a special rare books collection. Not only did we lose him, but we lost his knowledge, we lost his rare book collection, and so this reverberates throughout society and for generations to come. The one thing that i will say about how simians is we have, you can, you can destroy our books and you can level our buildings, but you cannot destroy our spirit. And you can see that through the various songs that have come up throughout this conflict, you have seen people singing, youve seen medical workers, journalists and children still sing and they sing songs of joy, not just resistance, but joy and love. Because the majority of post to me and folk work songs are around joy and love. Thats who we are, works. And so even if everything is destroyed, that oral traditions still remains. And were going to continue that real tradition and past me it down to future generations. Its very interesting because you also talk a little bit about the references that my are was making earlier about the power of the past and, and, and this history. I want to bring you a post that we found on instagram, basically saying before the age of social media, the victor has got to write history, deleting any atrocities they committed and removing any new orleans. But now we can post our stories, our videos and our truths about whats happening in palestine. Were not just implants are, is were historians my are. Do you think that the online space is an important space for this heritage to be kept in to be preserved or the other way around . Because we also seen youtube deleting some content about policy policy and history. So which one is it . Well, the thing about the internet is that via like the internet, and theres a saying that where people are mostly similar piece of people say that the internet as forever. What you post is in your digital footprint forever. And so i think when i think about that, i think its really interesting that youtube and, and instagram and tick tock. And all of the social media platforms are really adamant on either censoring people or on or, and Youtube Space deleting. And like deleting 15 years worth of documentation, and were not even talking about violent, documented like a violent documentation here. Were talking about just people documenting their daily lives under occupation. Uh huh. So when you, 1st of all, when you remove that, i think, what are you trying to do . Which takes me right back to how do you erase of people, right . You also try to erase them online. But i think whats happening now is theres so much theres, theres so many people post think thats one which is, which is great for the cause and then to now theres people who work in tech core coming out and saying guys, start downloading things, start downloading things. Putting them on a hard drive, the Palestinian Museum has a digital archive where you can go in and upload, upload family archives or archives that youre finding online. Essentially, there is a way to preserve these will to preserve everything thats being posted online now, and i think that we all need to do that. It has to be very and so i think very important point. And very important tip ahmed. What about our test . The role of those making our how do you guys go about trying to resist . I mean, 2 of your colleagues remain in detention. And can you tell us a little bit about them and about your message to the artists were presenting policy and culture today . Uh yeah, i think that does. Uh uh, does that make it or does the need for the box for them or the uh one that the white men thought itd be the right to teach us about democracy about elections, about this big thing women, this big thing that you mentioned the im for us yes, and we know that if you do, if you do, oh, it does cost you a prison to be given 3 big a big project on the usually the problem is about the but i seen the office, most of them facing all the difficulties if from days, well, any innovation, some of them like approved make a south coast where 3 like that to she got to imprison of these to use on have just because appointed, she lost in the facebook and the point it was, it was, this might be going to these guys, and they know that in fact, the way of they know they were 3 so much sure. We know that as im going to you even me, my says there is one street between the on my house and each day i close the street to youngster. I expect i put it in my head, and thats makes me even more strong. Im of the policy now. Were not happy. We are given the most valuable things that we have. Is that to give it to the top 3 and a lot of people on our move to that issue for us. And i think that that is, you know, ultimately the only way that were going to continue our traditions is through uh, making this effort to sit down and do that. Theres also, um, you know, we need to work with larger institutions to document outside. Uh, with unesco and um, with folklore museums around the world and universities, theres been a, you know, several universities have been destroyed. And we havent heard from the academy here in the united states. And so, you know, really pressing universities to take a stand 41 academics have been last 6 universities have been destroyed. And i think its worth crossing universities to really take a stand for their fellow colleagues around the world. Because ultimately a threat to their freedom is a threat to everyones freedom.
