A turn out before the election are much lower than this. And it seems that to turn out has passed those expectations that theyre made in the past. Thats why i think this tablets them and then the government is quite happy with this result. Because uh, despite the calls for the buy cards, as well as the economic grievances, as well as this engagement from a significant part of the population. This to an us, it seems to be somehow satisfactory to the government. Um on the yes, the counting is on the way in mind some, lets say uh cities including to ron, there might be significant number of a candid this going to the run of election. So its not over. But as it was expected, we are seeing conservatives consolidating their base and their seats in the parliament. We are seeing that we, executive, the 3 branches of the government are held by the conservatives on the this, you know, results that were seeing today for the parliamentary election was something that could be somehow expected. This means that there could be maybe rivalry in future among the conservatives for a feature alexis, including the president ial election as a stay without the 0, the stream with emilys board. This is up next landmark day in the race for the president s march 5th. Well see millions votes across the 15 states as super tuesday looks set to move joe biden. And donald trump a step closer to a re match. Stay with alger 0, so it continued coverage of the us selections 2020 would you join up protest if it would land you in jail . Would you criticize your government . If you could get you killed . They say young people are the future, but in the system dominated by one man, 10 russians, jen z, bring about any, well change. Im on. And these forces in this is the street. The passport is a part of your credit because i no longer wants to be a citizen of the country, the permits or crimes against your premiums, and thats the russians will had to the polls in march. But the results are a foregone conclusion. With most of the opposition and exile, jail were killed. Today we focus on what keeps young people in the country hopeful in a different future. Here to discuss this with me are 3 russian political activists uphold scenario early to nova, who joins us from the u. E. U nat geo silva, who joins us from montenegro and on or was joining us from an undisclosed location in russia and has asked us not to show her face for fear of the repercussions of joining this conversation. Thank you all so much for joining us here. On the stream on the ill start with you what youre doing. Joining this show is quite dangerous in todays russia. Um, can i ask you why you still believe it was important for you to come and talk to us about your vision and for the future of your country . Um, i joined you today because uh if i have a serviceability to speak even with the research load too much of my face. Uh, even not to mention in the location. And that might show name uh i want so to speak. And i want to share the real you much. Whats happening now and brush me pulling are and you were turning 21. 00 later this month. But you actually started your active isnt even earlier. Can you tell us about how does this all come about . I think the point of entering a world of politics sort of me started there isnt a lot of me how it was a lot of uh for a lot of people of my generation. So i would say when i was for 2 years old, i was uh, you know, like in my school they lived close, close the school, closed all the doors so that they put, and i was living in the board as well so that they couldnt go out and go through the process and i remember i was jumping from my school to go enjoying the students to i think thats how thats how it all parties, even from the age of i could see that something was going wrong in my country. And i really wanted to miss lambs, its somehow. 5 you and your, uh, what about you . Um, when did you start disagreeing with the political establishment in russia . I did something particular happen for you to say, right . I need to get involved here. Well actually i was quite a political flood for a very long time and i own this, not a football kind of protest and it will be an interested when i was already like, think or something. So um oh, when basically when the wiley ran from an in moscow, so that was 2013 to the for me. Uh well, uh i uh before that moment i always told that people who are protesting they just have nothing to do or Something Like that. And uh, hes gonna band changed everything. Um, youre both mention devonie. Hes definitely been a source of inspiration for many people. A long generation, arguably, the most prominent opposition figure in russia, in the aftermath of the announcement of his death, this video resurfaced and went quite viral. Lets take a look. Is just coming in for us to watch tv movies. News though, i mean the other news just that what so yesterday at the police us look at those my change the week. Yeah. Book and i agree and me see me with my me. Im going to send you to shooting me. You will be there mostly sports image of a single. Yes, no, thats a permanent tungsten. Wait. A girl may use your daughter. Yeah, no. But can you tell me what they took, what she walk, if the wife least almost when you moved or massage night and this, what could you please let me send me your story. News my let this to us lie at the door. But if you buy some of these, these 13 that im on, i wanted your take here. Um, would you agree that ivonya was a symbol of hope in a different future . And how did his death affect you and the people around you . Oh yes. So he was definitely the symbol and role model for most of the russian people. Um, who are engaged. Uh, go to the system. Uh and uh, i know uh lets now they are step 3 and then they, uh they basically lost their home. Uh beds uh after the is uh grief. Uh i, i am pretty sure that it will uh, come more stress for all of us because uh as uh nobody is just because hes setting this video and they are afraid of people. And so uh, uh, such a big National Loss will leads to the rates and there, i think a lot of people, thats our interaction. Now they ask us. And even if they believe some how our governments now are, they are pretty sure that they do something really bad. But the stakes are also very, very high. Usually what about the Pro Democracy Movement more generally . Are you worried that you might dont know, crumble without in a valley or as i just mentioned, do you think were witnessing the birth of a legend here and this will actually reinforce people to fight for a different future . Me. I dont know. Actually, i know that optimistic, i mean i do believe that the people who are being who, who have been following the law in his uh, investigations and everything. And just uh, well who they put me in watching closely was getting on that. Definitely a few reason they want to do something, but uh for most people i think its just lots of holes and Something Like that. I well for example, i was contacted by one of my followers almost around just yesterday. And she said that she never went anywhere to any kind of protest. And on friday when the wrong, his death was announced, she went to put some flowers to some memorial or something. And after the few days later, she was contacted by the police officer. Now she said it was cad and she told about its too old the fence to her husband to the brother to everybody. And of course she says that i know im going to just stay at home and all of my relatives, all my friends, were going to stay quiet because this is just nonsense. Like i didnt do anything wrong. And they saw how they found me like 2 days later, and i loved it to delta Something Like, oh, dont worry the brain just go put more flowers, but it said the phone because i know the rush anymore. So i know the ultimate stick to be honest. And before and of all these deaf, his daughter dosher, i spoke about her fathers wish for russians to unite against me and put in tickets in one of my fever chance my dad used to do during the 2011 to 2014 protests. And moscow was one for all and all for one. This is the phrase that were all familiar with. But most of us often forget dictators like who didnt want us to forget it. As they want us to forget how strong we can be when we work together, they want us to forget how much we can accomplish when we stand side by side. A pulling are you are joining us from the you a today. Um, are you also . Um, lets say no so optimistic about the future of this movement. I mean, how much more difficult have things gotten for activists in and outside of russia to continue campaigning for just a different reality. I completely agree that a lot of people in rock shot a lot of people, the doctor sent me a from inside of much of my family. They still stayed there, my friends, and then told me to, to be honest, they dont have any hope left, you know, theyre just tired. But nobody knew that it really i would say it gave me more energy into the sense that i will be as oh, like as a lot of pressure people they feel infuriated the fuel do reach and i feel like for the people now this range is the source of action, this region stuff can be converted, the actions against the functions produce government. You mentioned leaving russia in march 2022, thats shortly after russias invasion of ukraine and many of the activists. We have been speaking say that that was a watershed moment. Really that things have gone much more difficult since then on on. I want to get your take your would you agree that things have gotten significantly more difficult since russias invasion of ukraine and how people are just today unable to go outside protests, even if they are carrying a white piece of paper. Uh yes its uh became uh definitely uh, worst um because uh there are some really crill lot now and uh shows um it is uh becoming, it has become worse and its uh we will be a worse i think, but also uh i can agree with that you know, ends up with an ira as it so people now they are afraid. So because of the money may be and presents even for, as you mentioned, taking the, just the sheet of paper. So, um you yeah. You, you mentioned how much more difficult things are likely to get in your opinion. If you guys are part of a generation that have known nothing but life under log me a put in is that because of the narratives that were around you guys taught in school, etc. And how do you go about changing that . Do you have any hopes that people, the people of russia could choose Something Different . Mm. Not, not, not now. Definitely. I dont know. I, i dont, i dont believe in some kind of a change like, uh, 02 men you, protesters will go out on something. You will change and button will look down from travelling and he will say all of that. So he had too many people are going on very happy with what im doing. Okay, ill retire. I dont believe in the us. I, the only option is like some kind of coded or some something we lease or i dont know since all of which is death or Something Like that. Because people want to scan even that there is right. Very many people who are not exactly very happy with what theyre getting on. People are a twos gant, and i believe they have some kind of a wrong picture about the basics. I mean, i dont want us say that while everybody do, all this is completely safe. I wouldnt be outside russia if it was the case, but to get into real trouble, you need to be a, it needs to be either. No, its very lucky, like really not lucky. Or you have to kind of do lots of things like id, like ive addressed it many times and this is why, well, my next case might be, uh, like um, i mean, real present. So this is why i left. But you could just go out if you just, um, well, but while you can get a fine, you can get the rest as for, i dont know a few days and then youll get in trouble. Maybe when the Police Officers will come, come by every now and, and well ask you like i, you okay, im going to probably test again or Something Like that, but its it, but its not like youre going to get right away. Oh, there was, there is the 400. 00 plus people that werent detained for, i dont know, just laying flowers for and of all me. You say that they are not risking that much, at least if that is the 1st time that they are out. But if this is the 3rd or the 2nd, the 3rd, the 2nd or the 3rd time, maybe that that will be dangerous. Uh, and also the previous, um, the previous decision of the court uh, shoot already to kind of take place. Uh should i dont call him coming to paula whatever the time is the legal time. So its not, oh, well, i can even get to rest a few times like you 5 or something, but you have to kind of have but 3 uh, real Court Rulings against you so that it becomes a real or 2 to yeah, the 3rd one is the the 3rd one means game, so thats my case. So i was arrested to more than uh, 2 times. Oh, but optimized. And no, im sorry, good to official decisions. I had to leave because next time would mean game. That sounds quite so real though, to live in an era where you have to calculate how many times youve been detained for. Yeah, going out in the street. Oh yeah, im pulling are, you are also detained. You also got yourself into quite a lot of trouble. You actually got married, the day russia invaded ukraine, then you went out to protest once again. And again, you took the difficult decision to leave your family behind and leave russia. Would you say that most russians, Young Russians of your generation today want change or are they just i dont know just so lost and so hopeless about um, what you just said. There is not a possibility that many people will look down at a mass of protests and resign. So theres really no change coming anytime soon. To be honest, so things like Blood Pressure are like any other people in any other country use some of my friends and people who stay in the shop. Um, theyre like me, you know, theyre full of reach and teeth for the go to love for the country and they do want to change other people. For example, for example, my family to do it from. Of course, this time its the most connect some pictures work and people there. Um oh, they leave in the actual property and even so my young friends from there, you know, they dont have their interest and dont like the will of politics or do your politics speak just want you not to eat to the been you know, to take care of their family. So of course it depends, but i would say that the majority of young people, i know, of course the one change because of that i said people from russia, theyre like any other people from any other country. They would also be one to the freely people under normal future, youre going to be normal people, if you dont want to be shumate. So thats how the people here to, its interesting you, you bring a picture of a rush or that we rarely see. But obviously this, this russia that is struggling to feed their children kind of thing, but im not, what about this change that weve been talking about here . How do you go about making it a reality then . Because i mean, there are president ial elections coming off on march 15th, would you are you planning on even going out to vote . Oh yeah, im going to go to it. So and im definitely going to vote. Thats i know thats youre looking for my friends. So they just are, they are not a political, but the, uh, you dont see any sense in uh go in and vote for many young people. Uh, just uh they are. They gets used to leave in the ceiling or uh, they can do nothing. Hm. Even if they want us to be against uh, the actual government. Um youd, yeah. What would you say it would take for the russia on the, her dreams and aspirations, the russia youve been fighting for when you took to the streets and took those risks and were detained multiple times. What will it take for that russia to emerge . I didnt know, i think uh, i think this and i, i dont really, i really, really believe in some, uh, a quick change that we guys make too many people into protest, but the elections actually is. Uh the what was the 17th of march is it is a good day up to, to do something because it is completely legal. You can go to the polls and just vote and know, but you can ask you to stay at home, especially with this uh, ideal um, visiting default at the same time uh uh at midnight. So this is quite, quite an unusual time add to it to vote because, well, ive been, ive worked and the elections and usually its not like the most popular time people usually a comedy about the late in the evening. And so, till 12 oclock, just in the afternoon, thats a good time for everybody who doesnt support what is going on to just come in vote. And just to see that there are, there are many people. So it will probably, it will not change anything. But at least people will feel some kind of unity, or they will see the neighbors for the 1st time and they will understand why they are there. So if, if i way rush, i would definitely do that. What about you . Im pulling aria. What do you think you will take for the russia that you hope will emerge on day . What . What will it take for that to happen . Definitely number the selections that are coming into the middle of march. And the think um for this bribes, russell future to call the 3 o 12. This is really the change the tactics and change. The attitude. Uh, richard kendrid oldest here says a position before the war because the thing that arbor comes to the regime has changed a lot. And now i believe it was, think we need to focus that much on then selection of that theyre coming in because you know, as it sounds like it will not change absolutely anything. And i dont think that we should even yeah, we should be able to focus on any type of um, word that we were doing because for example, i was also working on elections. I was working in political headquarters for a positional candidates. And now i think of our instruments, the need to change according to the change of the region. So i would say that um to see our beautiful restaurant, a few insured. I really need to sense this love for our country and do reach that we have and china to live in. Um i would say qualitatively on other options that theyve been doing before. And i take take, put in baltimore while im a products um, if uh and you people that can afford it so much more radical measures in your opinion on here. And i couldnt jump in place. Sure, of course we were out of time, but ill give you the final words here. Uh if you want you, you yeah, i wanted to say that uh, nobody wants violent processed. Um, nobody wants to risk anything and elections has a good chance just to go and do something. So for people who dont ever do anything that to afraid even to go in late slower, if they can just go with the boat because it is completely legal. So i think it is the good idea to tell, well, the elections will not change anything. Of course, it will not change. And it said it would have to who was talking about the russian elections. But the people who should should go out, people should see each other. People should just see that theyre not low. This is really what people lack nowadays because they, they think that everybody supports food and which is not true. So uh and definitely all right on, on the final word here im, im so sorry were really running out of time, but i wanna, i wanna get on to continue this conversation on a, your take more radical protests, more radical actions or quite the opposite baby steps and, and slowly lives towards a change, a more drastic change. Like its kind of the for, for me its a, its too too black and white. Its a visa and or you, because when the, when you are here, its not. So its not so easy to think thats i completely agree. Yeah. Both sides. You and the yes. So the selection will wont change anything as yes. Uh, so we shouldnt go and vote because that firstly its uh, its a really illegal we assume that says uh, suggest showing your position. And it says i also have agreed to wait to raise awareness because that i so all the like government. So the channels, they should be they, we will show the process that would show the process and probably as so they just they will have to show and whats happening on the election on the elections and the option to get. And so this really great idea to show your position before its uh, became that the legal. Mm hm. Yeah. So youve read something that is legal and helps you to show your position. So just, just to basically just so you have to vote at a precise time that will mean something else. And well send potentially a message to let me put in, but also to the international community. And to those around, you know, youre not getting this right. It is nothing about sending the message to food and it just is just about sending the message to each of the other. People can see that there are a lot of us, thats it, right . So they recognize that they are not alone. And so i want to thank you really, ill pull in aria and on a so much for joining us here on the screen today for this conversation.
