Occupied with bank police one. Palestinian has been to the its 7 g and t. That is 10 am in gaza, senior you and sources tell lounges era the trucks from the red prison will move through the roof of crossing into guys that admittedly, but thousands of a trucks stuck on the egyptian side of the crossing. Theres been International Pressure to allow human to submit a terry, an aide into gaza lofton more than 2 weeks old as are of his riley bombardments. Theres no sign of any lives up. The army has once you men to terry in groups to evacuate. A Major Hospital in northern cancer, the out codes hospital is sheltering more than 12000 displaced people and 400 patients. And the overnights as well, boomed this trip. Once again at least 53 people were killed. And the strikes on going into the morning. We arms group, hamas has released to us citizens taken captive. We launched an attack on israel on october the 7th. They were afraid following mediation, if its by comp time. Well ellen fisher joins us live from occupied East Jerusalem. And i know things are changing quite quickly the but can you just bring us up to date with the latest on the roof of crossing, potentially opening imminently of the votes just over an hour ago on the twitter feed for the American Embassy here in israel. That they decided that they were going to, uh, i noticed that the rafa crossing could be open at 10 oclock nickel, which is right now. But weve had these the last before, remember im the blinking the us secretary of state when he left egypt last sunday. He said that the roof of crossing would be open on monday at thousands of people gather dep fuel nationals who are hoping to get out into egypt. But that didnt happen. And in fact, over the last few days, the roof of crossing is actually being bombed by these relays that know. Initially we were under the impression that it would simply be a case of kill nationals being allowed to leave. But it never appears that somebody will be allowed to dan and joe biden, when he was here on wednesday, talked about how he expected 10 trucks to get into guys a very soon indeed. And his comenity, nebraska has been working on that with all the interested parties. So theyre hoping theyll be able to move some of the truck. So that would suggest that the grand invasion that people have been expecting is not going to happen. Admittedly, it was unlikely that there would be the start of this ground war and then the aid would be allowed in. But people consent because the one of the is a load it. And then that clears the way for these release to go ahead and wants to go in defense of that. People have been predicting over the last few days. Okay, thank you so much for that update. That is ellen fisher for us an occupied East Jerusalem. Oh, were joined now by ill just say it was diplomatic. Is it a james buys . And i know youve been talking to you and officials about what is happening at the roof of crossing this one. Can you just bring us up to date with what you understand this happens . Yeah. And it backs up that tweak that we were mentioning out on was mentioning from the us embassy. Ive heard from 2 senior, you and officials that something is imminent. Im told that that should be trucks any moment coming across. Rafa crossing, im told initially this wouldnt be the un convoys. This will be the egyptian re read, present will be bringing surprise, and im told the you and come voice could come as early as monday. Whats not clear to me is how many trucks are coming in and what the carrying, because we know what is needed. Its most of medicine, food and fuel will all of that be on this initial come void that comes in. If it comes in, i mean we, we, you know, weve had so many false stones on this. Weve got to be very, very careful. This is only the information on getting, it doesnt mean its necessarily going to happen. But also, if that happens, does it mean that some of those who are waiting the roof of crossing to leave could they also leave today and were talking about jewel nationals, the us particularly keen on it citizens. We believe theyre opt us citizens, jewel nationals, 5. 00 to 600. 00 us who could potentially be crossing that boat at any time soon. Remember, this follows the un secretary general taking a pretty bold move. Im going to the edge of an active was open and pleading for this to take place and i can tell you from you inside. In addition to adam was saying clearly that the, the us of got the new top ambassador that but only you. And so i do go the secretary general, the United Nations, the political chief executive mentioned, humanitarian to speak to you for the United Nations, the guy who deals with the middle east Peace Process, the you in special coordinator. And the commission with general of im about the old in colorado, theyve all been working this and i think the hoping for a breakthrough. But of course theres no to break through until we see something happening on the ground. And remember of the initial deal with president barton was the 20 trucks. Yes. Now some a, some humanitarian act to say, well, i can start with some choices whats really needed. Again, thats exactly what were hearing from guys a at this point in time. Were actually taking a live shot from the crossing and it doesnt seem at this point in time that there was Much Movement if any movement at all. We had heard that it was, she was a wife and about 5 or 6 minutes ago, but we will keep watching uh at the roof of crossing to see if there we and hopefully a movement is coming you use. This was thing. Tell me when you look at those live pictures, but it is now clear the roof across soon. We sold outlook. We sold all that equipment. That was that clearing up the crossing that is completed. So theres really no excuse from the egyptian side that theyve got to deal with the damage, right. And what of that seems to have been done . So what is the delay now . Its only a few minutes, so i dont think we should worry too much about that. But what has been the delay in the last couple of days ive been speaking to you and officials. They think that mainly its about israel wanting verification of what hes going to be on those trucks. But also theres been a lot of discussion about whether it is just 20 trucks or whether its sustain data such. And i think that that is being the sort of negotiation thats been going on behind the scenes really 24 hours a day for the last couple of days. Okay, thank you so much, james. Thats james buys a diplomatic. It is a couple it spring and posting the engine list honey shiva. He joins us live from a hospital in con eunice in the gaza strip. And tiny, weve been watching. A smoke billowed over guys once again this morning as they were more Early Morning from 5 minutes. Can you just bring us up to date with the latest on this round of attack . The yes tom, well relentless mass of air strikes continue to cross the gaza strip, which are about the within the the, the early hours of this morning. Massive airstrikes, particularly on the vast majority of them, took place in the city of rough in the southern part of the gaza strip. 6 Residential Homes where completely destroyed with people inside of them without warning. So far it 26 people have been reported killed right at the spot. 8 of those cold people are 88 of them are children. Now, with, with the, with the ruffles is still not been cleared. The numbers highly to the increase in another major air strike in the city of their behind the mid of areas. A Residential Home was also destroyed by an ears try killing a mother and hair shy is her only child that was the words of the father who was a way of getting some bread and water for them and to their mother, brothers and one sister, seriously injured in a different location, jeff valia has also seen a major air strike on one Residential Homes. Its also important to point out that 5 United Nations, 5 honor was a school designated. The shoulder for people have been warned by d is regular. We spoke with 11, volunteers in one, and one of these is schools about what happened. They said they received the warning, the United Nations, its quarter, protested the decision of these really army, but nobody was listening. And the how to move people away from these a school. These are schools as d a are not safe any, any more. We have one hospital, one Major Hospital in gauze and sit down with the hospital was also more and last night its do evacuated completely. There are so many people inside the hospitality of patients and an injured who were transferred from a ship, the hospital complex, the the as well running for kind of the, the codes hospital has been told to evacuate. How worry to people there that and now the Major Hospital could actually be boltons, but bones and cancer. Well since they bombardment of ela, lee, a hospital in a sense of security has been shot or hosted those works the, the last resort for palestinians. Uh, to uh, to go to an a do to protect themselves from uh these massive relentless areas strikes, but with, with hospitals being worn with one Major Hospitals being abundant, destroyed. And it just, it, its not, its not safe. And there is that the phrase that people are, are talking about now theres like a communist thread among palestinians and goes up there is literally no safer place in gaza to hide or to protect yourself. Uh, i mean were, it, were not going to talk about it. Sure. Its just because the, the church was bombed yesterday, just adding a lot of pressure and people that there are no safe place to hide. And like, i thank you so much, honey. We really appreciate it is honey. She bet for us and con eunice in gaza. As the miller tripping off the moss has released to us citizens taken captive during the groups attack on israel. On october, the 7th. The mother and daughter and now with is ready on thursdays because um for guide says they will release following mediation if its by kata. She hyper townsend has more. Judith and natalie went on the 1st reduced into the custody of the International Committee of the red cross, the mother and daughter from suburban chicago with i dont have that over to these ran the army from gauze and before meeting with relatives, i think his rating of the tree base in a statement President Biden expressed as joy but release of this administration has been working around the clock to free over us. Captives held a sentiment underlined by the secretary of state. In this particular instance, i want to thank the government of cutter for their very important assistance. In a statement, the military wing of how must said we stress that we are working with all media is to implement the movements decision to close the civilian folk. If appropriate, security conditions are available in an interview without a 0, how much space and it said it was impossible to release more people unless the is really bombardment of goals are stopped. We really, as i told you, if we, if the good guys vision, we will not release any better. So we are lazy to really, as long as the videos we are ready to reduce their bus where you want to from, cuz i really its all the stuff that i think she of the 2 americans with vacationing at a kibbutz, a kilometer and a haul from gauze on october, the 7th, natalie contacted her brother, has come off the attack. She sent a text saying, hey, im here in gunshots and explosions. Ive locked the door, breaking news. Now this is a live picture of the roof of crossing with the 1st aids trucks. Finally, making their way from the egyptian side of the crossing into gas or where they will be inspected. So were going to bring in a james, buys of diplomatic hit us at once again, just can just talk us through what it is taken to get to this point, the aides, what it looks like now to finally get into kansas. What a great deal of diplomatic negotiations to see these pictures. This is where the un secretary general made his appeal 24 hours ago at that crossing to see these pictures of the trucks heading from the egyptian side over alpha and into cause that you see on the side of those trucks, says egyptian red present. This isnt as it is that a body that is, is coming out this 1st convoys that all you and convoys waiting to go, im hearing from you and sources. They are more likely though, to have to wait until probably monday, also hearing from sources within gone. So from the health ministry, what might be on this 1st, this 1st trunk of 20 trucks with the u. N. And the, the m, the red crescent and International Committee of the red cross hoping its suppose to launch. We believe its 20 trucks, which is what was agreed with president 5. And then in the deal with president by did im, were told that its mainly medical supplies and some limited food supplies. Now given what was whats needed in ga. So the 2 things that don told me that list of water and fuel, from what we, we, we, we, we can tell. And clearly those are areas that are very critical to people in gaza. Were hearing that people are in some places are having to drink from agriculture. Well wells that having to drink sea water, which is obviously very, very unsafe and weve got to fuel the hospitals rely on fuel for that generators. And weve already heard reports in recent days. Some been to like to is having to be switched off because there isnt enough fuel to keep people on the deal. We heard from the Health Industry spokesperson yesterday saying that that is one of the most important things to get into the kaiser as fuel to just keep authorizing as a, as they can. Now you said that, uh, these a not United Nations trucks. They wont be able to go in until monday potentially. Do you know why that is . Why the change . No, i mean, i know that the, you and have been involved in these negotiations as have the us, the us have to new ambassador force. You might as have turned f as in goals that they be sasa field. Hes in colorado. Lots of people happen to be in colorado because its big conference organized by present cc, which is kicking off in the coming hours from the un inside the un secretary general, who youd heard make very bold appeal, making his way to the edge of an active was on to do that 24 hours ago, but hes also got his political chief. So to see monetary chief, hes got the coordinator for middle east Peace Process. Hes got the commission to general of under a theyve all been working round the clock to make this happen. It is significant because it might be the start of a flow of more age, but i have to say 20 trucks given the gauze a used to get in terms of a coming into gaza before this complex starts in about a 100 trucks a day. And some, some humanitarian professionals say to, to try and just stabilize the situation, needed a 1000 trucks. And so this really is a drop in the. Yeah, and thats exactly what weve been hearing from our correspondents inside gas or the 20 trucks isnt even going to skim the surface. Can you just explain to us if, if youre able to what happens once the trucks in gaza, they obviously get inspected . Who do we know at this point in time . Who is doing noise inspection, caring those inspections out . Certainly this has been the Sticking Point from these really side. Yeah. They have very, very wide one to go into gaza in these trucks. And theyve asked the verification and is that a valid concern . Well, it certainly these really concerned that something could be brought in with this aid. So the inspections clearly i think of taking place as well to the satisfaction of his route. We know his residents involved the roof of crossing, but i would assume the inspection some taking place on the chips inside before that gets inside cause the problem then. And were only talking about 20 truck. So, and theres not a problem probably with this initial homeboy, but if you, if you all going to get a steady stream of a coming in, which is what were looking at that terms. So you need is then distributing this a full across concept on every single humanitarian that ive spoken to. And certainly the, the settled position of the u. N. Is to do that. You need some sort of least temporary, c spa humanitarian, of course. And you remember that idea was put before the Un Security Council earlier this week. They said we need a humanitarian pause. The presented is put forward a resolution for this very purpose. And that would have gone through the security council. It had 12 votes in favor. The only reason it didnt go through was the u. S. Cost is vito and said no humanitarian pause is why the us said that diplomacy was taking place and you couldnt. And they didnt want to vote for the resolution. Really. I dont understand, but still didnt understand the logic of how humanitarian pause gets in the way of diplomacy. Know exactly exactly as well as i going. And we know that there are hundreds of foreign nationals inside gone so that it will. So trying to get out. We see that happen at the same time today it is going is thats a very, very big question. And clearly the start of some of this diplomacy was the secretary of state entity blinking going around the region, going to the key parts of the region, particularly going to egypt, particularly going to cut off because weve also seen those 2 hostages released today. And he has played a key key role, and in that, one of his things was not only to get some of the captives fried, and weve had to so far out of about 200, but was also to get the us citizens who all the in casa we think most the deal nationals, we think the numbers are between 5 and 600. Remember the us ordered all of assistance order to suggest its one of the citizens they should go to raffle cuz the board was about to open a few days ago. And since then, the russell area has been palmed. We dont have a very accurate number for other for nationals, egypt has said all along that from that point to view the border is or should be open. So if this is now open enough to get a didnt, is there any real restriction to get the people out . One of the problems clearly was that if you look to that pulled up 24 hours ago, then that was rubble left. And we sold the heavy equipment come in to clear to go to, to, to, to try to, to try and clear the areas with israel had from the border. That is not a problem now. So can those people leave . I think its a big question and well see you in the coming out here. If, if youre just joining us, i just want to explain exactly what you watching in the large box. The launch picture this set is the saw this from a shot from the guns, a side of i coming in. And then in the small box at the top right hand side of the screen, that is the picture from the egyptian side of those trucks. As you can see, coming through and, and, and going through into gaza, you know, the same time that this is all happening. Weve also got some of this that is due to begin at some stage today in egypt. Can you just explain who is involved here and guess what they are trying to achieve as president cc, who is involved here . Hes the one who called this International Conference on golf. So what are they trying to achieve . I think it is just the talking shop, but some of those who been invited say to me its a useful talking shop to have all of the key players in the same place. At the same time, to talk about the situation. We know that the members of the Golf Corporation council, theyre all going to be that egypt clearly is going to be represented european nations. All going to be represented the us with this new humanitarian ambassador david sat to field is going to be represented up. But im not quite sure i can have the, the level of diploma representation. Presidency will tell you that. I dont think all of them going to be leaders. Theyll be lower level that the just some, some of the delegations. Okay. Just uh, going back to the pictures that we uh, seeing in the, in the small box. Uh that is from the uh, guys inside you in trucks. Um. Now leaving, uh does that going into egypt . No, not exactly a not entirely sure exactly what is on those at this point in time. Hopefully we will find out once they have gone through that crossing in the large box, the main picture that you were saying that is on the egyptian side of the border. That is the eye. That is the medical lights that is going in from the rid crisen into gaza taking that much needed me to collide into gaza. I guess the same size that all of this is on folding. 0 is bombardment going on right. Throughout guns we saw some huge explosions just in the last few hours. In, in garza how much of a 5 year hasnt been that all of the site is getting involved that bombardment is still continuing to the extent that it is age. It clearly is, is very, very worrying thoughtful for those that to involve trying to do the humanitarian well because they know they come due to what they want. If there is this constant bombardment threatening those that are doing this, i think this will be seen by the u. N. N. Fight by the red crescent. As a breakthrough. Yeah. Because theyve managed to get something straightened out. They know that what theyve got here 20 trucks is, is telling me its, its not gonna really do do do much for a population of 2300000 peoples thoughts. They hope its the beginning of a flow of a they hope this is testing the water that these rates are going to see that this is not doing any harm in terms of bringing any, any weapons, which apparently is the, is what israel keeps saying that concerned about what something delaying all of this. And i think the u. N is hopeful that its own trucks will start to come in from monday potentially some of. Ready fuel nationals will leave but, but that also raises questions if you do get those deal nationals out because im sure the western governments, im sure the us will be very, very pleased to get his people out. But really, why just because they have a different possible from the other people than garza should they leave and the remaining more than 2000000 people can get bombarded and remember, just people in garza who are humanitarian cases. There are we believe 9000 cancer patients, for example, in goals and hospitals that con cove, im, you know, on able to give them the chemotherapy, on able to give them the other support. There are people who are very worthy of humanitarian support. Who should probably should come out of golf, so now im going to be coming up. Exactly. Exactly. Thank you so much, james. We really appreciate you coming in that pricing it all down for us. Were going to go to ellen fisher, who joins us live from occupied East Jerusalem. And can you just give us the perspective from the as riley side on the roof of crossing that test . We have seen over the last few minutes has just opened up to humanitarian eyes. Or both of you certainly have been anxious to point out with the new aid will come from israel in together. That is simply not going to happen. And of course, somebodys really ministers have said there will be no age allowed in gaza until the place is essentially flattened. Im slightly part of phrasing them, but they were making the point that while this military operation was ongoing, while they were still pursuing her mass, there was no possibility of a going into the country. That position is changed because of the representations made over the last few days by and to me blinking during the shuttle diplomacy around them at least by to bite and himself here face to face with these really war cabinet on wednesday. And then rush you soon as the british Prime Minister when he arrived here on thursday, all of them making the case that the you might have to be in situation in gaza was beginning to leave israel with a lack of international support. They were aware of the solutions of people that were coming out on capital streets around the world. And so the families felt that the, that having bomb dropped our crossing at ellia this week after and to be blinking. It said it would be open to a lot of jewel nationals to leave. It was clearly in their interests to a lot of these. Yeah. Yeah. And that was james and many people have been pointing out. 20 trucks barely scratches the surface here, but it is significantly important. So theres actually, there is a trickle of 8 going through. And the United Nations will be hoping that they will be able to add to that number. What this also does on a macro scale, is it reduces the possibility that these really should have both to launch the growing defensive. Many people thought that while the 8 was going in, that would be much too dangerous. If there was a growing defensive ongoing. Then the United Nations have lost the number of employees during this conflict. Were not about to risk more employees by putting them into that situation. So if the r u n. A trucks to come on monday that would suggest that the entire ground operation that everyone is expecting will be delayed for a number of days yet. Okay, ellen, this will comes on the hours of to, to us hostages were released it certainly changes the face of what is going on ever so slightly. The fact that 2 people who are being held captive were released on humanitarian grounds. And how much the said in the last 24 hours that more could follow if israel stopped its booming, im certainly that has been pressure on the is released from the United States and also from the European Union and others to at least wait for some time to see if there was the possibility that more negotiations could lead to the lease of funding for the captives that are being held. And what is interesting is that to bite and said they were using often using only verse of the American Government to try and release the some of the captives. And that appears to have worked. And so we are sure that there are other negotiations on going. Its why joe biden has spoken to the adoption president. It is why the british Prime Minister has been in saudi arabia and also spoken to the palestinian authority. There are you looking to use what ever leave those, whatever pressure points begun to try and negotiate the release of those that are being held captive. And youll have to remember the captives from stuff the 2 countries, its estimated. So there are lots of people around the world invested in the process of trying to get these captives before there is a growing defensive, because then that might make it and almost impossible task. Okay, thank you so much, ellen. That is ellen fisher for us and occupied East Jerusalem. While it spring in mach own jones, hes an assistant professor of middle east studies at home. Ive been kalissa university. Thank you very much for being in studio with us. As weve been talking about over the last half an hour or so, we finally seeing the 1st round divide it go through the roof of crossing into garza. Obviously that is extremely vital, but as weve heard, no, were near enough on the 20 trucks. So. So yeah, its an absolutely insignificant number when it comes to the amount of people in gaza, which is over 2000000. And even about 1000 tons of 8 is probably enough to sustain people, a half a 1000000 people for a week. When you consider this to 1000000 people that need a portion of the aide is going through, whats that going to do . Its really insignificant. We have to bear in mind that theres also been a depletion of resources in goes up to now. So the 8 thats going in is also in addition to the fact that the existing stocks and supplies in gaza, ive already been completed. So really its, its a dropping the ocean of whats required. And i think this particular allow me because i think this focus on the rough across an open opening. Its important to have few minutes every night. But i think seeing this is a victory for gaza is problematic because really all its going to do is sustain a certain level of relief from suffering. And its not actually going to mitigate against the suffering it. So you know, especially when those best prospect 7 is ready, Ground Invasion hanging over, but theres no ceasefire. This age still has to be distributed and the infrastructure and gods is also been destroyed. So thats gonna make the distribution difficult. And theres also the fact of a tax on that 8, right . So the distribution of the aid, which is already in a very, very small number, is also another problem thats going to be faced by those distributing it. So this is, this is something to bear in mind, i think in a few uh, just joining us and you wondering what you were watching on your screen right now in the large box that is the, from the guys and sides of the roof of crossing where you in trucks have actually been leaving casa, and so thats the picture youre looking at right now. Thing. Weve got another shots from the egyptian side where the from the read prisons as being prepared put on trucks and has gone through a still going through the roof of crossing the. Im like, how do we make sure how, how does that you in and, and everyone else involved in all of this . How do they make sure that this isnt the only allotment of age that goes through the, the crossing that this becomes a constant stream of much needed i the gets to the people inside guy. So i think this is obviously seen as a positive step. I mean, theres been a lot of discussion about negotiating for negotiation of opening the back the crossing. So its clear that some progress has been made, but we also know that theres been some, you know, to us citizens released from the us. And so theres obviously some sort of quick pro, quote going on here where it seems that theres an element of a delivery to humanitarian. A delivery is contingent on the release of a captive living and gaza. So my concern here is that if there is going to be this contingency, it is quick per cro and as well, for example, the table and to share a ceasefire, we might see drying up at this age. So theres going to be pressure on the increase negotiations, but the problem is that theres a, theres a bit of a budding of heads now between thomas and obviously as ro, how must have said, if you stop, you know, if you called a ceasefire, we might be willing to leave more captives that the same time as ive seen very unwilling to do that. Yeah. So you know, im a bit, im not necessary. Optimistic about the future supply of aid at the same time, if the aid goes to a piece meal, even though thats obviously a good thing, its still going to be a drop in the ocean about to cried. And you know, as far as i can see as well, havent shown any signs of any backing down when it comes to this Ground Invasion. So if the Ground Invasion is launched, what does that actually mean . That the potential of a constant stream a during through or theyre going to have a situation where the ground evasion as its going to push more and more people from the northern zone of garza into the southern zone. And theyre going to allow 8 to go through with a ground evasion in place. So, you know, i think the, the, the possibility of a continuous stream of idle depend on whether this ground evasion goes ahead or not. And i think it is realistic sheets, political pressure for that to take place. Yeah. So im not necessarily optimistic to be honest. Yeah. It was in regards to the, the 2 hostages, the 2 of us hostages that have been released that you, that you were talking about before. Do you think that this is a this could be the 1st sign of more hostages being released to allow more item that this was part of the deal to select those to us hostages, to the captive scott, i think it was an indication, i mean, it does show a level of the ground negotiate is taking place and there is some willingness to compromise at the same time the 2 american hostages. And we know that in this particular case, in the case of, ill explain that as well to us arent necessarily the best all buy to it, right . So it seems that bad looking after their own as a priority. So i think we might see more cap just being released, but the priority will be on us, jewel, nationals or citizens of another country. Once. If, if that does happen, its more release then what does that mean . It will still be captives, but that will be less political pressure maybe to have them released because theyre not naturally seen as being a us responsibility or, or europe and responsibility. So my concern is that this level of negotiation and quote unquote, good faith. The discussions about hostages is only limited to the nature or the, the, to the background, a nationality with the captive themselves. And it just can you to, to just the amount of work that it is taken just to get these trucks out through the crossing. I mean, its being more than 14 days now since im us, we tend to as ro, huge amount of work just to get to this point, isnt it just to get 20 trucks in . You have the shuttle diplomacy of the us, like just say antony, blinking. Okay. Its not the only thing you wanted, but it was the 1st thing. Youve got the personal involvement of the president of the United States. It was the one who said he got this deal for the 20 trucks. Youve got the un secretary general himself going to rafa and making a play. You dont normally send that un secretary general to the edge of an active role. So. So it is a breakthrough in theyve got some 80 and then perhaps this is the beginning of something. But its also worth looking at this. Although we need to look at the humanitarian situation in ga. So we need to look at touch the insights from the political point. If you remember israels comments straight after october, the 7th, they were gonna have a complete siege and theres no way they were gonna lift. And the thing and the thing in any will to any food, any medicine until all the hostages were released. So i think some of the hard line is, and these, right, the government will not have wanted to see this. Im sure some of the military kind of will be concerned about this. And thats because of the big political situation already. You have to you and security council, which would have voted for you who monetary impulses, if it wasnt full, the, the single vote which happens to be a veto because the permanent member of the us. And this is now going to go before the un general assembly, or 193 countries of the United Nations, where the votes more lightly stack up on the palestinian side. Then these riley side, theyll be great deal of pressure in the already is it right here, the pressure for the global south to stop the war . And so i think israel be worried that this stops the momentum of the efforts towards a ground intervention. Yeah. And is that why we saw the un secretary general there and quite a remarkable press Conference Held right on the roof of crossing like you say right on the edge of a was on. Is that why weve seen him in the, you know, like his boots on the ground. You know, he is there trying to make this happen . This is a lot of pressure on the you in to, to get this does a lot of pressure on the un secretary general because, you know, he is by cooling and it took him of quite a long time to do it cooling for a spa. He is buzzing heads with a permanent member of the Un Security Council. The already has positive headset of the last 18 months with russia of the will of ukraine. This is an area where the u. N. Is intimately involved. Remember, there are so many you and workers on the ground, and you and workers from monro who lost their lives. He has staking this, and the number of people hes got involved from of under operates on the westbank as well. If this war was to spill over, you have a Un Peacekeeping force on the blue line between lebanon and is routes the un very, very, you know, very, very closely involved in all of this and very high stakes, i think, for the United Nations, its always very easy to say the you and that fails. It does nothing when you look at the security council, but the you and is a much bigger, more complex, a multi dimensional thing than the security council. And they are alone with the red crescent. The only real people on the ground doing something full of the humanitarian situation in gauze. Oh, well thank you very much, james for, for breaking it down for us as well as you mike, we really appreciate you. Bye thing in the studio for us today. A lot of hospitals and goes uh, overcrowding and sizing. A severe shortage of medical supplies, tens of thousands of families are also seeking shelter and them to escape israel as relentless bombardments of just heroes who male site file this report from l. She the hospital in kansas city independent the other family members in the eyes of the word that here which is the search in industry for the doctor. We see in different amounts of casualties in the hospital. I can see him in the hospital, this completely pockets. The beds are everywhere in the receptions and all that. So what is going on, please tell me and push it the the number of pieces. Is it difficult for us to manage all of them in one time . So we have the tenants, do you think these, these keys, we have short electricity and also in the, if its 450 bucks and at the bottom is for the patient. There was no, was the shape of the the, the, the relationship in terms of humanity. Ill say most of them are to the to now lets go live now to hold an adult. I mean, she is in ramallah for us and whats the reaction thing like the 2 beside, finally getting into casa as well. I have been chatting with people here about that cold voice over the past few days. As you waiting for it to enter, garza and the reaction has been across the board. The say one more or less that this was merely a p r. Stein from the International Communities to show that it cares about guys that many people told me that they very much aware that this is nowhere near enough for the needs of gaza. And they said they pointed out to the fact that if really didnt do National Community care, then they would be negotiations. And they were be serious talks about, for example, getting all these children who had been wounded during the bombings out there to get the proper treatment they need. And did say that this 1st conway would be followed by a stream of daily convoys because people and guys are missing absolutely. Every thing they say that for them at this point is too little, because they have been going, they have been vilified, palestinian especially gardens, have been vilified around the world. And that now to show that really someone care, this needs to be a sustained effort and sustain support to the people in gaza and hold on a separate issue that has been ongoing a wrist in the west bank as weve seen over the last few weeks. So we understand that 93 people have been arrested just this morning. Do you have any more information on that to yeah, i mean these rays arent going every night and they have doubles if not tripled, since as october 7th. Now we dont have the exact number of how many are currently didnt detain by the overnight res, simply because some were released. But they were raised in hebron and rudo, which is a small town northwest run. My life is actually the hometown of a leader of how much who has actually been deported in 2010. And the people there say, well, we are going through is just collective punishment. But the exact number of tonights is not clear yet, even though the overall number over the past 2 weeks is at the more than a 1000 people that the, in some of them have mazda members, and some of them are simply been arrested for showing support. Uh, 2 guys that on social media is really trying to send a message that it wont tolerate any kind of support towards how im us, but also towards the flight. The people in guys. And this is infuriating people who i live here across the occupied westbank. Those meant anyone you speak to with that you what happens to the people and guys, it is a for me its like happening to my brother or my sister. We all one same people with one same struggle, even though they are a completely separated geographically, and very rarely would you be able to go from the occupied was back to gaza and vice versa. A really strong connection there. Thank you so much. That is for the adult to meet for us in ramallah of what were going to bring back to knock on jones and james by so talk more about this developing story as weve seen over the last half an hour or so or so. I trucks finally getting into garza, jims, can you just explain for people who might just be tuning in that these are rid crisen trucks and knots . You in trucks out the yeah, the u. M. Was involved in brokering this deal and theyre all un trucks ready to roll, im told, but probably they wont get in until it certainly is monday. But thats if this initial 20 truck come, boy, is not the soul come void is allowed in. Because remember, this is all that was specified by President Biden, was an initial 20 truck come boy, and then he said, maybe if that goes well, more can come in. So i think theres a big question mark of what the move will follow. Well, so was telling you what we think is on these trucks. This is from sources in casa, saying that they being told that it would be mainly medical with some food. Now of course, there are other needs uh, there are needs of a great deal of medical. This need for a great deal of food. People are running short of things to get to eat. But also volta is absolutely key because people are running out of drinking. Most of this limited supplies of drinking most of for a period of the day now allowed by israel to some pots of southern gossip. But when he and people have been drinking from agriculture wells, theyve been drinking c will set which clearly is very, very unsafe. And then the last bit on, if you look at the statement that came from these ready Prime Ministers office a couple days ago, what they would allow in this is when President Biden announced the initial 20 trucks. It said, well, took medicine and food. It did not mention fuel the fuel is absolutely critical for a number of reasons, partly because of the war set because of the pumping stations and the dissemination plans, but also more importantly for the hospitals. Those hospitals have called very limited, dwindling supplies of fuel to keep that operations going. You cannot do um a, a um, an operation operating status or without service bits of equipment that need to need that tricity to run. And so i think that is a real concern if there is no fuel on this convoy or any of the future convoys that its certainly something that was not specified. A bias rather, something they were going to, lets say you just own water and, and palate mach, this is real controls that going into cause it doesnt that effectively, as uh, as we saw a 2 weeks ago, they said that the switching both the pallet and the motor supplies completely off into guys. So can you just explain how that works and, and how easy those 2 things at the very least could be fixed. If is ro decided it wanted to turn them back on effectively . Yeah, i mean, we have to remember were talking about the distribution of 8 and cause a piece, mail distribution of aid. But because of itself, as many of described as an open at present, thats already subject to essentially a siege where it is rel, controls, its a collect tricity. Its water. This has ramifications on health care. On even sewage means james mentioned that some people are resorting to drinking see what this is true. We have to bear in mind that the see what the nga and the see which is also controlled as well is also a place right as well. So it just dumped because they dont have the ability to or the electricity to efficiently process all that sewage. So even the sea water thats being drinking, which is you shouldnt be doing it the best of times is also contaminated with search. Isnt usually problematic as well if they wanted to and they have done at times of periodically switched on the water again. So they try to actually facilitate the access to water and basic essentials. The fuel thing i imagine is security is that during this because i think it could have some sort of security problem. But it also reflects the fact that israel a driving on the us of driving a lot of this, a lot of the nature of this distribution of aid report that just highlights it, but a highlighted that guides. And so this is a p austin site appears time because obviously it probably made us look like they were successful in the negotiations that made it look like they were willing to engage in these concessions. But the end of the day is an Occupying Force that even before the escalation on the 7th of october has an ability to control what goes in and out of gaza. Crucially, electricity and water. Yeah. So can i just have to not tell you later this, you know, ive, ive seen all given on social media oval, you know, its an independent territory. Run a by how mass goes as volt this on themselves. But if you dont control the water, you dont control the electricity mot mentioned to seal the exit to be the so you get shot by it is my its already gone, but its if he goes pushing in the sea, they have no control over the thing on the beach opening on the beach. This is a prison. Yeah. And one little of this is going on us. We continue to see trucks uh go through the roof of crossing into account and it goes up to the 1st time. In 14 days, there is. Busy a summit that is due to be health, hopefully license the diarrhea understands in kyra just can just took us through who is the what i going to discuss. Obviously i, my wife is going to be hi on the ive spoken to a number of delegations. This is the idea of presidency. Its very much his idea and i think he wants egypt to be taking a leading role. So thats the 1st thing you need to remember. Ive spoken to a number of the delegations who attended aisles. Well actually is the plan and once the agenda im one of those who i spoke to said. Busy if you find out, please tell us boss at the same time theyve said to me that actually is useful, having so many people in the same place at the same time where they can have conversations, even if the main body of the summits work, all those conferences work is just speeches saying what we already know, the positions of each countries on the solid lines. They are in the same place. And you can get much more diplomacy when youre done in the same place. For example, the United Nations. Theyve got all of that top officials on this issue who happened to be in colorado at the same time, the set country general, the political chief of the nursing nation to humanitarian chief, the guy who deals with the special coordinate, who deals with the middle east, Peace Process and the commission in general, if im right, so they on the sidelines will im sure well be having a little mini summit with a move in the same place. And then also be able to meet with David Satcher field, who is the new us very experienced diplomats whos being brought back out of retirement again to be the humanitarian says invoice a goes up for president a bite. And so i think theyll be important discussions, although im not actually sure what, what does that will be any Important Documents also, or any important conclusion coming out with this, i guess. Okay, thanks very much. And my cause as it was going to go now to ellen fisher, who joins us an occupied East Jerusalem in ellen. Can you just give us a, an idea of what the reaction has been there in israel to the crossing . Its finally opening too. I of the well, of course these really some said that they werent going to provide any the tools. The big consent on the is really side is teams as mentioned, was that the convoys could not be used to to allow arms and, and certainly there was a tentative agreement to allow aiden about a week ago, but it fell apart because they couldnt agree with the objections, how does the vehicles would be satisfied they would be checked before they actually cross the border. I and it so that the families were, were dead, set against it. And people have pointed out that the addictions could have at any point along with the aid and, and there are some people who, who dont understand why they havent done more to a lot of that. Its, theres also the question of security as well. So there has to be an agreement at that when this happened, there would be new air strikes because as ive said before and to be blinking said, raffle was going to be open when he left egypt plus sunday. And people went there. And over the course of 48 hours, there were a number of attacks in the window of people in that area. And so that was, that can sound as well. So they needed safety guarantees, essentially from israel, that these trucks could go through it. But as people have been pointing out, normally, if you take 600 trucks, a d as an average of the trucks that cross through rafa cutting you might have to do, you need an all the things that guides a strip deeds just present in 20 thats less than one percent of what they would normally get over the past 14 days. So you can see that this is barely going to scratch the surface of what is a mass of humanity the need. Yeah, and theyll, and thats exactly what weve been hearing from everyone on the ground to inside gaza. Now this who comes only hours out to, to us host captives were released by him. Us. It is certainly changing the picture ever so slightly, ever so slightly at 1st of all youre getting into the country, which is something that the likes of joe biden, which is so that can a near p and leaders have been talking to a lot of happen because of that, they the growing crisis in guys as well. And then there have been people using political and diplomatic lever is trying to get some of those who are being held captive and guys to be freed. And so this has what to bite and who said that his government was working very closely, can go into all the details. But there was what going on behind the scenes. And we know in these situations, a lot of it is normally like an iceberg. Does a little bit that we can see, but underneath is a great deal more going on. So it appears that this was successful and i must have said that if its real, israel stops bullying guys. Then other captives be will be freed. And certainly its in the interest of the interNational Community to keep pressing for that because theyll be aware the subject to countries around the world have people who are commonly being held captive by how much. And so they are very keen to make sure that they can still work on getting them out. It will become a lot hotter if there is a growing war and guys to try and get captives or not situation will become close to an impossible task. Okay, thank you so much for that, that cell in session for us and occupied East Jerusalem. A were going to go back to my own jones and the times buys now. And as we heard ellen allude to the mock hotline is inside israels political system as well. As in the why, the population will not be happy to see this, i go into the guys will back. Oh, they wont be happy. But at the same time, if they believe the aid is contingent on the release of captives and that for more a piece meal, a because 20 trucks for 2 people. I mean do the math. That means no caps is released. What does that mean then . How much have no leverage over is rarely in the sense that they, they can say, well, you know, we have no captives left. Thats what that gives is, right . Were gonna weigh the hotline is the free range of sight. While were going to launch this ground evasion, and we dont necessarily have to worry about the backlash from getting captive killed, you know, captains blocked at the 2 different states, but they might not much anyway, as a plumbing guys into the ground and potentially killing lots of those captive, but i think actually the hotline is, they wont be happy, of course, because this represents some sort of compromise that might diffuse the momentum that youve obviously, that, that theyve used to, to allow this kind of indiscriminate for me to type vice. But at the same time, the potential for just having less captives is also plays into that. How do i think theres a tricky kind of balance going on here . So its just can you just run us through the, the pressure that is, i guess on it is riley. Uh me to actually go in uh into the ground on guys because almost immediately after him, us broke through the border and, and uh and, and went into as ro. Uh, 15 days ago they came out and said very strongly a Ground Invasion is imminent. And weve heard that over the last 2 weeks or so. What do you think is happening behind the scenes there . And how likely do you think it is now that weve seen i finally get into . Well, i think the 2 things im to 2 divided into 2, i think is the military pressures. And the political pressure is picking up on what just mocking out and just said, you know, those 32. 00 countries will now be thinking, well, weve got to stop this from defense and trump stopped the ground defensive because wed like to get people out as well. So that will be pressure and some of those countries weston countries that hope have been saying all along the israel has a right to self defense of many will question whether they are doing self defense or, or brutal revenge at this stage. So that will, i think i add to the pressure from some of those countries in addition to the global south, which is really, i think tiring of this, it realizes that this bombardment is collected punishment to the people of cause. And this i think is around is going to get a great deal more pressure now from the interNational Community. Then then it had in the 1st days of this, and i think that would be something in the military who were thinking we should have moved frost with a military operation that brings us. The 2nd part goes to the military side of this. Israel was taken very unawares by what happened on october. The 7th. They dont seem to have had a plan. We dont show they really dont even have a crime now for a ground incursion into goals are Ground Invasion. What are they actually going to do . Whats the end game . I think they havent sold that out. The perils of that operation. How much notice territory, which would yeah, comments. I just, thats like the battlefield. Theyve got very sophisticated weapons. Theyve got tunnels underneath it. Yeah. Theyve got high ground. Remember goals, the city is got a lot of high ground, even it says tablets can be destroyed. Its a very, very different, difficult place to fight which ends i can tell you exactly what the is rarely forces are doing right now. There is a bombardment going on inside guns, as you can see from these pictures. So as i, it is going in at this very same time, bombs are still being dropped inside guns. A mock . Well, i mean, it doesnt surprise me, im sure is right with legitimize this. What justify it by saying that . How much are exploiting this arrival of age to move that resources into strategic locations. But at the same time, i think is there, i also want to remind people just because that this aid is getting through. Were not necessary going to laptops with attacks. So i think of sending a clear message that this aid is, by all means doesnt mean that this is an end to this kind of the maximum build up for a potential granted vision. Yeah, we could say even more escalation from this point in time. Can we just yeah, i mean i, we dont know. I cant tell from that picture where this is in garza, but it doesnt really matter. Whoever it isnt gas, have you speak to the amount of terry and of course that get us a didnt then youve got to have a humanitarian pool, so we can safely distribute the site and they wont be able to do that unless you mentioned at the moment this little a, but thats not a big problem, but if that was to be a most sustained float, which is certainly what the un, the red crescent engine has to come see the right across the hoping that and this will become a very big problem. Yes indeed. Okay, well, thank you very much. Uh, both of us jim center and mike, we really appreciate your insight into this developing story. Well, that is old for this point in time, but i will be back in just a moment. And so the other side of the sprague with much more on else special coverage on the on garza, including the consumer compartments as well as the i finally getting in to the on site the, in the system. Youve been coming to add any International Anti corruption excellence award, nominates your hero now. The under cover of reporting, exclusive stories explosive results out just sierra investigations, thought provoking on. But the patient doesnt have time to wait for the extremely unfortunate script. There are no quick wins and events or research hard hitting interviews. You feel like america is the best thing to do since these days or is it just a different full . I think the democracy in the process basically entities do you feel that the fraction is already starting the g 7 in the us on one side showing that and the brakes on the other . I think there is a huge piece of that to happen via the story on talk to how does era the, the trucks carrying vitals, humanitarian. I begin entering kanza through the rasa, crossing with egypt, the until mccrae. This is al, just here alive from the also coming up. As the crossing opens, egypt is hosting a summit to discuss the war on cancer and seek ways to de escalate the complex a wanting to evacuate aid agencies. So tell us
