Watching all of that happened allan. Huge huge news here which it seems is not being accepted by the trunk campaign. Thats right were just in a statement from trump in the last couple of minutes remember hes currently playing golf with his golf course everett jr spend a lot of time in the golf course during his time in office even though before he was elected he said he would never have time to visit his properties because hed be too busy working for the American People and they had been some pressure on him to be seen doing something president ial to send a message to the country that even though there were recounts in a number of states are slowly coming to going on in a number of states that it was still business as usual but he decided to take advantage of this glorious saturday in november and head off to the golf course certainly he says that from monday his campaign will start to prosecute the legal case in a number of courts. But speaking to all the experts it seems that this really is a long short but the case is that the forward so far have been dismissed by the court they have talked talked about voter fraud and havent produced any evidence theyve talked about ballot stuffing and havent produced any evidence theyve talked about dead people voting in pennsylvania and havent produced any evidence so the pressure really is on them know to start producing the evidence to back up their legal case we always knew donald trump was going to take this to court remember how many times was he asked before the election will you concede to a peaceful transfer of power and he said he couldnt guarantee that because he wanted to see how the election pando which everyone then said it was a case of him setting this up for a legal challenge so were now in the position where 4 years ago donald trump unexpectedly won the presidency and became the 43rd president of the United States and here on a saturday in November Joe Biden has been elected as the president elect to become the 46 president of the United States this election it seems is over but the fighting theres still a long way to go and well be watching that very closely for you here on out is there alan fischer there in washington d. C. For us amongst all the celebrations as we get this this historic news thank you so much allan lets now go straight to bidens home state of delaware where jamal joins us from wilmington jamal were hearing from the Biden Campaign that he is already saying hes calling for unity. He tweeted in the past few minutes there that he is on or that americans told him to leave what you described as our great country the work ahead obviously it will be hard but he says i promise you this ill be a president for all americans and. No you are central to the message has been coming in throughout from the Bombing Campaign is a call for unity and a commitment that although run as the democrats would rule on govern as a president for everyone he says whether they voted for him or not he will keep the faith that the people have placed in him so this you know every time he came to speak over the past couple of days his supporters at least were really hopeful that he was fine finally going to announce that he was. The victor of this charleston contest the presidency he finally has done not all here in the face of the denials that have come from donald trump that hasnt stopped more and more people to come if you are converging on the trade center where the campaigns have quarter is where it seems some sorts of celebrations will be taking place at some point probably today where a stage has been set up for him to address not just obviously his supporters but his entire country there is security cordons all around the area whenever a car passes by there will honking the celebrations are starting but theyre expecting them to be a lot bigger later on today to. Tell everything happening in delaware for us where joe biden is thats his home state were getting all the reaction from there thank you so much jamal right now lets move on to speak to Michael Isikoff he is the chief investigative correspondent at yahoo news and he joins us now from held island in North Carolina michael thank you for being with us what do you make of what were hearing now from the campaign and the suggestions that there wont be a concession but rather a whole lot of litigation instead. 6 we were certainly talking like that but it is far from clear where any of these lawsuits are going to get anywhere the trim campaign ends. Been unable to produce any evidence of actual vote for on people changing votes for. Dead people voting anything that would go to the integrity of these vote totals most of the most of the alleged irregularities they are citing relate to poll watchers and access to ballots on the handling of provisional ballots none of this challenges on raisins any questions about the the actual numbers that weve seen that have elected joe klein as president so no i am not expecting that any of these lawsuits are going to go anywhere michael we have seen huge cleavage is in voting behavior this am mean as much as joe biden won there when any 17000000 americans who did vote for donald trump and we already seeing some of them come out and gather to support trump and what he wants to do now as we see biden supporters come out to celebrate what do you make of the polarization that messing now and potential tension is Going Forward from this man. Yeah well look we are a divided country theres no question about that and one of the real surprises of this election is how well republicans did down ballot they gained seats in the house of representatives they gained seats in state legislatures which are very important because they draw the congressional the maps of the congressional districts that. Indicate future future victories and losses for the 2 Political Parties so yeah the republicans gregoire you dont have a lot to complain about they may have lost the white house but they could still maintain control of the senate we have those 2 runoffs in georgia. January 5th that will determine whether Mitch Mcconnell will stay on as majority leader or not and may god a while nancy pelosi will remain as speaker she has a much smaller majority in the house so all that points to a divided government i should point out that joe biden on like donald trump is making it clear from the start that he wants to be president of all the people not just those who voted for him and that suggests hes going to go many looking for compromise hes looking to move republicans and try to get something done but it does suggest that you know keeps some of these agendas some of those Progressive Agenda that he articulated the Green New Deal and higher taxes you know may face some really tough sledding giving them given the makeup of the congress well of course its not just john biden has one today where also saying americas fast female Vice President it can you go to see the symbolism of that format. In the out im in its enormous effect 1st woman ever. To. Serve as Vice President that is and and she is an africanamerican and. Asian as well that speaks to the diversity of this country and so thats a historic moment its a moment of pride for millions of americans and. Its its an important moment in American History i should also add one other point we should remember you know donald trump these bad storm hits or you clearly see hes already said hes going to continue to try to challenge this result in the records but also. Hes going to be president taylor january 20 m. Arizona law that he could use during that time period to be sure that dances agenda to do so to this rock to work joe biden can do. To you know move could see executive orders we could see firing them with federal officials like tommy found she passed perhaps the f. B. I. Director perhaps the defense secretary and we could see pardons for those who were convicted in russia investigation many other matters so theres where we are nowhere really disruption is donald Trump Presidency and we wont be until january 24th i am curious how you think of a country is and foreign leaders are watching all of this play out youve done a lot of whack on the u. S. Relationship with russia friends michael and im i wonder what that imprison is thinking watching all of this happen as well as not just our bidons when but what happens now in terms of the transition of power. Right i will look other countries no know where what the results are they know theyre going to be dealing with a biden presidency and its worth remembering that a lot of the people around joe biden are known quantities to foreign governments to foreign leaders. Theyve served in high level positions before tony blinken was the deputy secretary of state under barack obama hes very close to Joe Biden Jake Sullivan another top advisor to joe biden was a top aide to Hillary Clinton so many of these people you know according to a centrist Foreign Policy. Dont want to emerge a biden presidency would be reaching out to foreign leaders and trying to reach accommodations to set things off for a new 4 day means i wouldnt be surprised if we dont hear about sun surely russia musette down when you allude. To as barack obama tried many 1st came into office i think you could also try to see some accommodations even to rain and he said to try to restore alluring and nuku to read president obama trying to do its also about paris climate of cool word thats one including a totally expected by the presidency will we be up for a little get us back at the United States back into the paris climate corage so youre going to see some changes very quickly in. Biden Foreign Policy but i would not expect a radical change because as i pointed out many of the players around joe biden have been known before theyve served high ranking positions before and can. Generally be described browns centrist Foreign Policy mainstream figures Michael Isikoff chief investigative correspondent for the young king is speaking to us from North Carolina thank you so much for being with us michael bay to get your insights found if you are just joining us here on out is there at the time is just off to 1700. 00 g. M. T. And were bringing you the mentalists breaking news this hour and we are projecting that with 284 electoral votes joe biden has won the u. S. President ial election he is now the president elect of the United States but lets bring in the host of aljazeera bottom line Steve Clemons from washington d. C. Great to be speaking to you steve at this very has started our of the. We start by asking no confession from donald trump no surprises. That is a kind of predictable you know depending on which side of the aisle youre on thats just what we all expect is the president is not going to give up his perch easily he tweeted an hour ago that he won big and and is just simply discounting this very historic moment where people are out honking horns and you know hitting pans and making all sorts of noise but its an Inflection Point in american political history and i dont see a pathway for donald trump to remain in the white house and were going to see a change a group of might get sick off that donald trump has a lot of room to run in these days still left in his presidency but it will be a concluded presidency at least for these 4 years all these niggas hollanders that he has already mounted on them that this prosecution that he says is going to begin on monday what do you make of that could that potentially lead on rare or or is the result the result. I suppose professionally i should say theres always an outside chance of some unexpected moment but ive looked at the legal. The comments about the legal strategies they have thus far and no one of you know serious seriously informed political standing gives those legal challenges a chance to affect anything but at the slightest range which means that what weve seen throughout the United States in the multiple states that have been part of what appears to be joe biden this win and remember hes going to get at least it looks like right now 306. 00 Electoral College votes which is what donald trump often got calling it a landslide so he will be well past im guessing that 270 Electoral College vote threshold so they would have to undo in disavow votes across the board in multiple states where states are sovereign with regards to. Theyre all like cruel rules and processes and frames this is not a federal this is not a National System of voting it is a federal system of voting so in that case i honestly am just to be you know you got candid with you dont see any chance for the president to overturn what we have seen happen today the city we have 306 Electoral College votes as you said tom call that a landslide still though if we look at the popular vote and it was a huge margin here by a huge amount still there where nearly 17000000 americans will basis but some how does a narrowing move forward in terms of the level of polarization in the country i mean what were seeing both biden supporters and some supporters come out very different outlook than miles let me tell you a story about joe biden is whom i happen to have followed for many years traveled with and you know there was a time when harry reid was the minority leader in the Senate Working with Mitch Mcconnell and joe biden was Vice President in president Obamas Administration and joe when they had a tough deal something going on joe biden would go over and try and help things out make things work and harry reid asked the president just stop letting joe biden come over to the senate this is the leading democrat saying dont let joe biden come over any more he keeps wanting to do deals with republicans and it is in his nature to reach across the aisle to listen to those people who did vote for donald trump to go meet with their leaders and to find some space where they can do something jointly and together and to neutralize and detox of by this environment its what joe biden is known for thats what he did in the United States senate and i suspect that what harry reid was upset about at that time is the strategy that joe biden is going to take when he proceeds forward to try to deal with those 70 millions of americans who are not in his camp indeed i know he has a very Good Relationship with Mitch Mcconnell. As the former leader of the senate for the Republican Party and if i recall mcconnell actually went to beau biden this funeral and was one of the only people from the other side of the aisle to do that so clearly both sides potentially wanting to reach out moving forward here i do want to interrupt now just to say that we are getting results coming in from the border and joe biden is now the projected winner of nevada as well with about 1. 9 points and 94 percent of the votes counted there so vote counting still ongoing but i mean it does look like joe bidens lead is growing in a number of different places lets talk about joe biden the man steve i mean this is now the 3rd time that hes hes run for the presidency and this is been a lifelong dream for him. Oh it has been i mean i think the 1st time you and i may be wrong and this may have been 1984. So go back and check that but but he was a very young guy back i mean he was the youngest guy to run for president at that time you know within one of the major parties and now hes one of the oldest that not the oldest so hes been at this a number of times look at anyone who wants to make a credible run for the present a United States that theres something inside them that cant stop running that doesnt want to do it that looks at it as practically unpatriotic not to put themselves forward i think i think to be fair to donald trump i think he probably has that scene but he cant imagine himself not having taken the steps to do this so yes joe biden has been at this for a long time but hes an extraordinary life of Public Service which is one of the criticisms launched against him was that he was a career politician hes been around for so long both in the house in the senate in the Vice President s role and so he has tons of experience but they were turned down around saying hes a careerist at this and and but there is something that is a little doubt and that is hes seen an extraordinary number of top circumstances in Foreign Policy and domestic policy in Different Levels of divide in the United States were all sorts of issues many contentious issues involving just about every major player politically in the United States but also globally and that is the rolodex we used to call them rolodexes but now their contacts on your smart phones but he brings an enormous rolodex an enormous contact list with him of experiences and people well joe biden is now going to be the oldest president ever of the United States and weve been saying how important it is for him to choose and running mates that will be able to get him to this point and come a harris is clearly about past an incredible symbolism and her election as Vice President today what do you. Make of her and her political movements Going Forward for him this is its hard to understate the historic importance of the 1st female the 1st woman having now a you know being in this role of Vice PresidentUnited States this is not happened before others have tried and run but nobody has won she will be there it finally breaks through a key ceiling not yet the president ial ceiling but it puts her in a prime place to to to do that i think republicans fall so have extraordinary leading women nikki haley comes to mind who might run in 2024 perhaps some people speculate so when you get begin looking at that this is change the dynamics you know huge way of for the role of women the just and fair place of women at the american political table in a way that just talking about could never do so this is an extraordinary moment but she happens to be both a black and south asian descent she is a person of rich cultural and ethnic background and that has been another part of the identity shift in america one of inclusion and embrace of everyone here as opposed to the triumphalism up one corner of that racial. Segment in the United States steve i want to just take a step back here and look at the country as a whole how its changed over the last 4 years and how both the democratic and republican parties have changed and were looking at an incredibly diverse country weve weve seen voting trends change so much even though they it kind of defied the polls as we were expecting right what do you make of the shifting demographics in the states and how thats how thats affected this election. Its a fascinating question you know youve seen america become less white but its not that way all throughout the country youve seen americans who. Are all there were traditional conservatives and were they they always i would tell you that you know the most powerful most reliable voter in america is the woman who is over 65 years old she says shes going to go and she goes in and and i sort of feel like you know be the issues about health care the issues about the Financial Security of Older Americans are going to be back on the table because they were out how they were out in both parties and ive got to look at the crosstabs and breakdowns you know another point but theyre always really to me that we talk a lot about the next generations but on the gens ears the millennial thats important but they do not vote in the bulk and weight of Older Americans so thats one key part of the demographic divide in realities that are out there but i think racially you see an american become more of a diverse country and youve also seen i think this is what georgia puts out there is a very interesting example a lot of people sat out previous races because they didnt think their vote would matter because they thought the system was stacked against them that they thought this fight being you know flattering being in a community where they were there that they just never got a fair shake did the georgia win for joe biden that what Stacey Abrams and others were able to engineer in this vote has now given people a taste that their vote can matter create Inflection Points and shift and i suspect that not only will we continue to look at you know demographic in you know ships around the country but were going to see greater engagement in future elections now across these different identity groups in ways weve never seen before because they saw change happen steve stay with me i just want to have a look at some of these pictures that are in so. That we are around the country and in a number of places by saying well actually divergent perhaps what we see on one side of your screen that and a huge amount of Trump Supporters out with with flags and us. Waving them out on the streets thats in washington d. C. Well but on the other hand were seeing bible support us out on the streets in new york tearing weaver had pots banging as he was saying what were seeing celebrations all across the country and it makes me wonder steve you were talking about turnout and given the huge amount of turnout that we saw this election even in the midst of a huge coronavirus pandemic and all the potential issues around the dishonesty and questions being raised about the democratic process or all of that do you feel that in some way this is a vindication of the democratic process and a renewal of the democratic process in some form. Absolutely a jew and ill tell you why because. Both sides came out in big respect to both parties that were able to do this i think the polls were predicting a bit of a blue wave that turned out to be absolutely poppycock and that when you looked at it there were people who really do subscribe to a lot of what donald trump stood for what he stands for washington was over regulating a lot of their lives that they worried about law and security he continued to hold well about economic matters better than joe biden did and to a certain degree a number of them were fearful given a lot of the protests and tension that were going around the country thats ok that is a legitimate what is not legitimate in the american political race and we saw social Media Companies behave more responsibly we didnt see any case that ive seen or thats far of significant russian or chinese or arabian meddling within the election systems themselves at this time last year the department of Homeland Security 4 years ago the department of Homeland Security knew that it was 29 Electoral Systems had been penetrated had been played with in some way or another that didnt necessarily affect the outcome of the race but we had the intrusions by the coroner. Actors in our system those are the kinds of things that began to stress the questions of legitimacy of the outcome that we had none of that seems to have been a factor in this case we didnt have james komi the former director of the f. B. I. Days before the election come out and successfully a tilt this election so you saw a true struggle and contrast of views and while donald trump doesnt like this outcome yet and theyre going to legally contest it the truth is that republicans i respect at the highest levels of the United States senate and even republicans within the white house whom i have spoken to understand that this was a fair and free election and counting all of those legitimate votes as i tell everybody you know donald trump keeps talking about it as if it was an act of motion its really like taking you know all the numbers of jelly beans in a jelly bean jar that have already been cast that number is static you just need to guess or or count the number of those jelly beans thats what vote counting is at the static process that were watching and visualizing but no more votes added no more votes deleted and i think that process is one when you look at the struggle you look at the engagement you look at the robustness of the greatest number of votes in this country per capita in a century so this is a revitalization of democracy not a suspension other. Than have to what so you think is going through donald trump card right now what were talking about what do you think his closest aides some of him on members of the ballet what are they saying to him right now as he is out on the golf course. But dont trump is a. Driven results oriented obsessive and that is why he has been so successful in many parts of his life even when he had speed bumps when he said bankruptcy is when you have things go against him donald trump is overcome those who. Will and changing the environment of those around him bankers that let him have extraordinary deals even as he was not financially performing and allowing things to go its just the secret of his success and i think we should be acknowledge that but i think the best way to look for what those people around him are saying is you go to Laura Ingraham one of the top clocks news commentators anchors who regularly speaks to and supports alertly President Trump you know shes saying out loud leave with dignity take this moment reflect on democracy reflect on your game to leave with dignity its in your interest to mark your place in history at this moment dont drag it out in terms of the bitter and losing battle where the air will go out of his tires around him as more and more people distance themselves from his failing you know bandwagon if you will and i think well have to go through the emotion of these next couple of days well have to see how we respond to this in a possible guy to predict but i think the terrain that he controls is going to get smaller and smaller and smaller you can already see it in the tweets from leading senators who never ever allowed any distance between themselves and President Trump before but now they are clearly doing that and thats not something is going to be able to reverse Steve Clemons there the host of al jazeera as a show the bottom line speaking to us there from washington d. C. Thanks so much for sharing your your thoughts but thats right at this very historic moment well the time is just after 1730 g. M. T. Am i bringing you the mental breaking news this hour we are projecting that with 290 electoral votes joe biden has now won the u. S. President ial election that makes him the president elect of the United States pennsylvania it is the states that put him over the top and he has now also been projected to have won nevada well lets show you some of these incredible pictures of people celebrating around the country you can see crowds now its well actually these are the celebrations
