Least 45 people and on a mission to mars china sends its 1st unmanned spacecraft to explore the red planet. The sport has once again marks one year to go to the dealing in the pits. Thank you for joining us 5 west african heads of state are meeting in mali today to try to resolve this deepening political crisis 6 weeks of mass protests have demanded the resignation of president. At least 14 people have been killed in recent days the m 5 Opposition Movement activists leads the protests accusing the president of corruption mishandling the economy and failing to improve security they rejected a unity government. Goals from the Regional Organization echo us. Rebel groups linked to al qaeda and i so gain strength using mali as a launch pad for attacks in neighboring nations as there is nicolas following the story from senegal he joins us live on the newshour so nick a regional effort stepping up to try and resolve this crisis in mali tell us 1st of all who was in bomb ago today and can they achieve a breakthrough in this crisis. Well among those that are attending this meeting is president bihari from nigeria we have the president of ivory coast from senegal the president of a neighboring country that has been 3 where theres been lots of attacks from armed groups coming from all the into the air there is also the president of ghana we havent seen such a high level delegation coming out to west african country since. They refused to concede defeat during the president ial election of 2016 so that shows the seriousness of this delegation as they gathered at the hotel in bamako to hold discussions with president. There were a group of supporters. That were outside the hotel and they were drowned out by a crowd of protesters many of them women chanting mali needs peace setting the tone of this mediation efforts because in the last year and since it has come to power theres been an uptick of violence especially in 2020 this year where groups such as. Someone loosely mean an alqaeda affiliate. In the greater. Have really launched several attacks away from the north in the center towards the borders of brick enough so really affecting the region as a whole so peace in mali will be one of the issues discussed during this mediation effort and on the table is the discussion as per the recommendation of the government of National Unity and the future of the Prime Minister. A lot of stake naik not just for mali but for the region as a whole because what happens in mali has of course repercussions on the other countries in the region and france it is also present in this region the french have some 4000 troops in mali what role is france playing in this crisis. Well france for the moment is supporting the eco us mediation efforts and remember echo us is not recommending that. Steps down from office good luck jonathan reminded the press on sunday that if he was removed from office that would be unconstitutional and so the president so the ecowas would not agree to that what they want to see is a stable mali because contingent to the stability of bali is the stability of the region for president in my cold hes mentioned this in in a meeting in po that the security of the borders of the European Union starts with the stability in mali remember this is not just the french troops there from this month there is also european troops presence in the north of mali trying to bring stability in that region and despite their presence and the presence of 14000 Un Peacekeeping troops this situation is just deteriorating millions of people fleeting fleeing the north in the center of the country and so and a half of the population dependent on humanitarian aid and what really angers are protesters is the power and the government being absent in the north in the center of the country seemingly doing little to bring back peace to this region and to and to the country last week we saw on social media videos of the son of the Prime Minister whos also an elected m. P. Holidaying vacationing in the yacht in spain while its half of the population here in mali are really dependent on aid and so that has really built up the anger towards. A way of governing remember some of the demonstrators some of the leaders of this demonstrating the demonstrations are former allies of theres a former minister of communication theres a former minister of infrastructure that have now joined the protests. Movement that in the absence of someone who is the opposition figure of mali well its Mahmoud Dicko the influential. Does become the figure of the opposition until then he has no political ambition he has a moral clout over mali and so what he says is of of importance he doesnt say that tito should step down but there should be a change in the way mali is governed fully thank you very much nicholas live there in the kind of off course continue to follow the mediation efforts in mali with you nic cock in the car. Not to the u. S. In the white house says this fundamental agreement on a new coronavirus stimulus Package Senate republicans are set to unveil a one trillion dollars a bill on thursday but theres more evidence of the deepening economic pain caused by the pandemic with another 1400000 people claiming Unemployment Benefits in the last week as bringing our White House CorrespondentKimberly Hockett committee job numbers are starting to rise for the 1st time since march tell us more about this stimulus package and how it will help people. Well i think what we need to talk about 1st is how the white house is going to react to it were watching very carefully because the u. S. President does not have any Public Events on his schedule today but certainly he is watching these numbers carefully he was so overjoyed just a few weeks back when the jobs were coming back but things are not going in that direction in terms of the number of infections here in the United States it what were seeing in this is why were seeing these jobs jobless claims rise is the fact that there is a resurgence of hope at 19 in factions in the United States states like california massive state of the west coast of the United States big driver of a caught me it also states here in this region like the just south of washington d. C. The u. S. State of virginia so with these infections rising what were seeing are businesses closing restaurants closing and the people that would. Ive been working there are getting pushed back out of their jobs so this is a big problem for this president one that so wanted to try and win reelection on his job creation but thats all been wiped out by covert nighty now you talked about that stimulus package that the republicans have agreed on the white house backs it but heres the thing it has to be passed in the house of representatives controlled by democrats and its not clear that thats going to happen but something needs to happen quickly folly because the bottom line is that 2 really important programs that have been keeping this economy afloat workers afloat for the last few months are set to expire Paycheck Protection Program that allows Small Businesses to keep workers on their payroll and also that federal payment of 600. 00 a week for employees thats also set to run out and the goal was to try and get people back to work maybe really continue this Program Using a 70 percent of your previous paycheck to encourage people to go back to work or problem is there are jobs what are they going to do thank you for that kimberly how good life or is there the white house as weve said the number of people unemployed in the u. S. Has risen for the 1st time since march as gabriel is under reports from new york many jobless americans are still waiting for money they were promised before sunrise hundreds of people lined up outside an Unemployment Office in midwest city oklahoma people lost their jobs i mean the economic recession caused by krone virus and are now waiting to get help and be laid on employment tracks dieter blakely used to work at a hotel casino in milwaukee wisconsin she was laid off in march and has yet to receive for Unemployment Benefits its been over 3 months with no income ive been really stressed lately. Bills are piling. I worried all the time. Sometimes i went it got to be a little bit of a habit to when i woke up in the morning to look at my front door and see if there was an eviction notice on there but Deidre Blakely is just one of more than 50000000. 00 americans whove lost their jobs since a pandemic hit the u. S. In march Congress Passed a pandemic aid package that included an extra 600. 00 a week for anyone left unemployed by the pen demick the problem the money still hasnt reached many who need it so why are so many Americans Still waiting for their unemployment money i posed that question to jesse ross dean the former chief economist at the u. S. Department of labor he said the federal government and state governments are facing an tidal wave of Unprecedented Demand and that the systems set up in the 1970 s. To distribute unemployment money simply have not been updated and cant keep up when you triple or quadruple the volume of claims that come in the system the Computer Systems cant keep up and to the extent that people need to be involved we dont have enough people to keep up with that and so the whole the whole mechanism of the system is set up for a time thats very different from now and that leads to difficulties in getting payments out in times like this and with the pandemic still spreading across america and more states closing down again after reopening its feared the unemployment lines could grow along with the frustrations of those still waiting for help gabriels on dough aljazeera in new york. Now the world news frances president emmanuel micro has warned turkey against maneuvers in the Eastern Mediterranean and is calling for the e. U. To consider sanctions it follows on crowes move to send ships into the waters on an Energy Source in mission and the conflict in libya has also proved to be another source of tension between france and turkey turkey bags un recognized government of National Accord in tripoli while france has been accused of providing military support to warlord tali for have talks. On if he. Doesnt let me be done. In this part of the mediterranean which is vital for all of our countrys energy and Security Issues are central today and they are at stake in the power struggles of turkey and russia in particular which are increasingly asserting themselves and against which the European Union still carries too little weight would be a serious mistake to leave our security in the mediterranean in the hands of other players this is not an option for europe and it will not be something france will it happens lets bring in our paris correspondent. More tension between france and turkey and weve heard some strong words from president micron today tell us more about what he said. Yes a french president was meeting his counterpart from the republic of cyprus at the lease only made some statements before the 2 leaders went in for their discussions now he said that he believed that the e. U. Needed to respond more strongly to what he called provocations in the Eastern Mediterranean now he was talking about turkeys continue drilling for oil and gas off the coast of cyprus the republic of cyprus is part of the e. U. The north of cyprus a breakaway north is pro turkey now the e. U. Says this oil and gas drilling is illegal it has called on turkey in the past to stop and there are e. U. Sanctions on ankara for this france would like to see more sanctions imposed and tensions flared even further just on wednesday when turkish warships actually accompanied a turkish submarine being used for this oil and Gas Exploration in the area again violating what was said was violation i should say of maritime law and their own saw friction between france and turkey over the situation in libya natasha. Yes president matt grass saying that any country or foreign powers as he called it violating the u. N. Arms embargo on libya should be sanctioned he called again for sanctions in that case he didnt say much more didnt give much more detail but this again is all part of this war of words is really escalated the past few weeks and months between paris and ankara back in june we saw france accuse turkey of using one of its warships to harass a french naval vessel in the mediterranean that was taking part in a nato operation to enforce this u. N. Arms embargo on libya a france complained to nato pulled its ship out of this operation and said that turkey should be punished weve also heard the whole from both president of turkey president micro in the past both leaders accusing each other or fueling instability in libya so this continues and again present markhor really would have to say once again adding more fuel to the fire thank you very much for that live for us in paris and more now on the situation in libya and turkey is one of several foreign powers involved in libyas conflicts backing as he said the u. N. Recognize government in tripoli and providing weapons such as militarized drones an air Defense Systems warlords highly for her to his base in Eastern Libya has a supporter of egypt the United Arab Emirates and russia the u. A. E. Provides have ties fighters with armed drones while russia has sent mess neris sprit to. This his the founder and director of the sadic institute and joins us live from skype in london thank you so much and being with us on aljazeera the french president highly critical of turkey over the situation in libya russia we know is also involved in libya frances role is a bit murky do you think why do you think mark or hasnt condemned russia in the same way as he has with turkey whats motivating do you think his call for more sanctions. Well france supports russias role in libya and it has done you know if we kind of take a mirror image of this time last year when the governor of National Accord was being attacked in tripoli around this time last year in july of 2001 seeing the New York Times the government French Special forces and. U. S. Antitank missiles were with the helicopters forces in the city ability where they launched friends of russia is also working alongside kind of up those forces in a support mercenaries as youve said so i think they sit on enlarging with you know with that with russias moves and so they dont want to criticize then russia and the u. A. E. And egypt dont use the naval borders of libya to bring in their weapons that use the land border or they use the transports to egypt so its much more about trying to assert any kind of Foreign Policy particularly european lead because it can that gives the illusion of a brand that is not just that wouldnt just be you know motivated by whats happening in libya that gives the illusion of having a broader european problem but the reality is this is much more of an investment policy in libya that stands much longer than what is happening is the military and this goes back to 2015 what if arthur launched his operations in Eastern Libya and relied heavily on egyptian amorality and for support for doing so very well the french have been very ambiguous about their role in libya they say on the one hand that they want a political solution but as youve said theyve been accused of giving military support too highly for have to tell us more about what france is looking to gain from this conflict. Well they have strategic alliances with both the egyptians and the in ratus i mean these surgical lines are so deep that it goes beyond just a few contracts there is a french base and military base in saudi u. A. E. Those are they have jointly cooperated and worked on building and now an emirate to run. In the call that hurt them and so these these strategic relationships also at times have been ideational are good logical synergy they both seem to favor authoritarianism for Different Reasons and they both seem to have got in this kind of man of islam as a minister mr monsters the hide under the bed i mean the definition of islam is in the so wide mode that includes Civil Society actors women drivers atheists or atheism is considered an act of terror by many of these actors in their own region so its the pickle to determine exactly what it is but its all forms of opposition against the actors that they support and all 3 of those actors havent supported it after it was you know unashamedly looks a power grab and in tripoli right its last year has that really and the last 5 years or so there are these deeper strategic alliances that its a way of viewing the world beyond just contract and so you wonder with all these Different Actors internal and external whether a political solution is really possible today in libya. No its not i mean it in an ox libyans you have to wipe and then i mean the easiest way of looking at this is that cutting off the arm supplies to both the both the g m a n l n a would force a resolution because there would be no more bullets left to fire each other but the more that these weapons are being flown and obviously that keeps the conflict going but will persist at the diplomatic level is the ambiguity in this ascension that there are going to support the government actually record that they would never allow anybody to attack this government up until 2019 and up until kind of after is that theyre not only shown that this is brutal but theyre destroyed i mean these are you know without being sheepish or what were saying here they have destroyed the credibility of the United NationsSecurity Council that no longer looks like it does what it says in return it no longer functions in a way that suggests that it can bring peace order and stability and resolutions to conflicts especially in a country like libya where it kind of goes its credibility the responsibility to protect civilian lives and match those 11 i think but in less than a decade its gone full circle and its been shown that by stronger powers like france like russia you can manipulate the wheel to a beach oh and break down the most basic tenant of the 20th century 21st century terms of International Peace and security its a really dangerous game of brinkmanship that theyre close but its one that could have much more dangerous for medication is beyond libyas borders and asked how the matter is always good to get your views on this thank you so much for joining us. Percy European Unions chief negotiator has warned a new trade deal with the u. K. A p is unlikely Michel Barnier made the comments at the latest round of negotiations in london he says the u. K. s refusal to agree on fishery industry issues and a level Playing Field are the sticking points the u. K. Did not show a willingness to break the digital. Undelivered. The u. K. Still refuses to commit to maintaining standards in the. On state aid despite the world particularly in very clear we have made no progress at all live in london neva caucus taking us in the 5th round of talks there needs to be a trade deal by the end of the year one of the prospects like right now. But the pretty slim by the looks of things according to downing street there hasnt been a breakthrough nor has there been a breakdown so the question is well what has been achieved the answer very very little according to the u. K. Chief negotiator david frost he says that the differences between the e. U. And the u. K. Are substantial nevertheless he is hopeful of a Free Trade Agreement being reached by september the east chief negotiator Michel Barnier bunch less optimistic he has slammed the u. K. Saying that britain has not shown readiness to find solutions to the e. U. s questions and in these e. U. Talks there will be an emergency round of talks next month but according to one british newspaper the British Government may already be getting ready to blame the e. U. For the failure of that forthcoming round of talks just to remind you where we are were in the transition period the u. K. Left officially the e. U. In january this period has been likened to a departure lounge and by the end of the year by the 31st of december the u. K. Leaves the Single Market of the Customs Union its hoping to have a Free Trade Agreement in place if it doesnt we could see trade barriers we could see friction on the border and we could also see a tremendous amount of uncertainty given the overwhelming im certain weve seen as a result of the pandemic you do get the feeling that Public Opinion is now putting pressure on the British Government to reach an agreement the governments official stance is that it doesnt heed wont one but its also said to the e. U. That we would be prepared to leave a Single Market on the Customs Union without one some of the sticking points you touched upon the idea of the level Playing Field nothing to do with sport its all about Economic Policy when it comes to a fairness in the way in which countries and Companies Deal with each other to avoid one company on the cutting another fishing is a major issue in. Well where the colonel fish in british waters are some of the issues we were talking about a couple of years ago about the status of Northern Ireland and how trade is going to work between that part of the u. K. The republic of ireland the you member the challenges of course are huge but the question is all the insurmountable thank you for that neve baka with the latest sam on brakes in negotiations in london. The United Nations is proposing an economic lifeline to People Living in poverty during the coronavirus pandemic in a report it says they should urgently receive a basic income that would cost developing nations a total of 190 9000000000. 00 a month to pay for this the u. N. Suggests a temporary debt freeze 432. 00 nations then they can a use that money to combat the effects of call the 19. 00 the un predicts this could potentially help 2700000000 people globally and it means they wont be forced to work and staying at home will reduce the risk of the virus the u. N. Says a pandemic has been particularly devastating for poor communities want to talk to us about this is a kames time now whos an administrator at the United NationsDevelopment Program and joins us from new york thank you very much mr sign of for being with us on aljazeera so you report the un d. P. I. Report makes a case that a temporary basic income would help 2700000000 people the poorest people in the world retain an income and helping them to stay at home which would in how to stop the spread of coronavirus but how do you convince rich nations developing nations those economies have also been hard hit by the pandemic and have been seeking bailouts to sign on to the spine. Well the interest of all that is a plan an analysis that is based on our assessments that we have undertaken as the United Nations across more than 80 countries now in terms of cope with 1000. 00 response but also on how to manage mitigation measures and as the pandemic is spreading now and it is graining in pace this particular also moving into the countries of the global south and there our Sister Agency the International Labor organization estimates that certainly a great percentage of people and their lives are still Informal Sector so the very measures we need to take to contain the virus that each country has to put in place also an immediate and particularly in poor countries with no social safety nets or Protection Systems a catastrophic impact so the ability to contain the virus in the absence of a vaccine for the next 6 to 12 months is clearly a major priority and based on what we have observed quite a number of countries in the developed world already have to improve basic incomes what we call Unemployment Insurance temporary laws that allow people to maintain their income that return to their jobs in many of the developing countries that Safety System is not there so countries must now look at options of how to enable people to follow the pandemic containment strategies without having to stop because that is the prospect at which youre hundreds of millions of people face it is principally a trust or an option for countries themselves to consider it is not a global fund into which one group of countries pays another story down ok but what is important is that the fiscal space in the relevant countries get is from strain it for the poor response and thats why we made also the link to global that the developing world com is developing countries will have to repay up to 3 trillion dollars in interest play and repayment of loans this year and thats one possible source right but if you say that debt structuring will be one way to ensure that the worlds poorest get a basic temporary income isnt that just going to kick the debt problem down the road any effectively keep the poorest countries poor for longer and giving them an additional 15 problem to to still deal with the pandemic after its been resolved. Well we have facing an extraordinary situation and the realities that so father developed well its largely been left to its own on its own to cope with this situation we have seen the i. M. F. And the world bank providing additional credit lines but the International Response so far in supporting the the poorest countries is so wanting and thats why i think we need to give countries an option of examining how to the National Budgets the navy able to put schemes like this in place and we have seen examples togo putting a Cash Transfer program in place in just 8 weeks august on over 190000000 people being reached with 1200000000 dollars from Pakistans National budget countries are desperately struggling to figure out how to protect the poor and to avoid many from falling into extreme poverty without some form of tempera basic income basically there is no scope for cutting the containment measures in place and so theres the virus will continue to spread this is why the same 1st of all governments themselves need to look at the viability of these schemes and basically a temperate basic income will cost on average less than a half to one percent of g. D. P. So in terms of financial viability it is not out of range the question is can it be implemented quickly could poorer countries in particular benefit from its status and yes maybe thats restructuring forgiveness but we are facing a situation where fiscal space the ability to spend through National Budgets right now is fundamental to managing this Health Crisis but also a rapidly escalating economic and social crisis thank you so much for speaking to us i came steiner with a un d. P. Joining us staff from neil thank you for your time. Thank you. But china says its considering ways to stop the recognition of British National overseas passports held by many people in hong kong its in response to the u. K. s decision to open a special pathway to citizenship for 3000000 hong kong residents starting in january the British Government and china accusing each other of breaching the commitments a majoring ago ca sions that resulted in the return of hong kong to chinese rule in 1997 you unify the country given the british side broke its commitment 1st the chinese side will consider stopping recognition of b. N. No passports as valid travel documents and we will reserve the right to take for their actions. Now ethiopia says its in a position to test its 1st 2 turbines after he started filling africas narges hydroelectric dam on the blue nile thats a spider ongoing legal negotiations with egypt and sudan many in the downstream countries are worried about what effects the giant dam will have on their water supply thats been in aljazeera morgan been covering this story extensively and joins us now live from damas scene in sudans Blue Nile State on the border with ethiopia tell us the concerns of the people who live in this area about this dam what how how is it affecting them. Well for you 1st of all the biggest concern that sudan as a country as a downstream country has is about the safety of the operations of the ground if you can run as on now the reason why they have that concern is mainly because of the dam that you see behind me that his research was in is just about 100 kilometers away from the ground if you can renaissance them if you dont have not been able to reach a deal that says that the dams are safe to operate now the reason why sudan is concerned is because the capacity of the dam is 7000000000 cubic meters if you compare that to the capacity of the if you have been down which is 17000000000 cubic meters there are concerns about how much water will be released now this is that is responsible for generating electricity more than 10 percent of sudans electricity its also responsible for for farmers and their and their production downstream especially in areas here in Blue Nile States. Planting banana trees is nothing new to has been in safer dont now his family has owned these farms in sudans Blue Nile State for generations has been managing some of the lands for years and has noticed changes in the landscape and not illinois are gonna move to a theater or firms or by the blue in about a decade ago the river was 500 meters away but since the increased highs of the day the flow of the nile river has changed and some parts of the water levels have gone down in others theres an increased production some ports increase and decrease in others it all relies on the dam and its operation has the means farm is on the banks of the blue nile river the water is controlled by there is there is down built more than half a century ago to irrigate farm land its also one of the main sources of hydro electricity the dam was extended into 13 with the aim of increasing water levels for farmers to irrigate their crops farmers see the river which used to cost seasonal floods is more controlled now but there are concerns about the dams future. This reservoir called was there with the 1st point where water from the territory is reserved. And experts and government Officials Say the feeling of the ground if you can renaissance them will have an impact on the rest areas down so dan has tried to bring together to reach a deal while it too is a stakeholder on the mile the 3 sides say the technical issues have been resolved but the legal aspects remain so dense government is also concerned about the safety of the new dam and says it has failed to provide any safety guarantees its true say was that is just 100 kilometers away from the if you can renaissance them or gird as its known. Sudans to be signing an agreement prior to the start of the filming of the good safety is entirely dependent on the operations of the good disagreements are currently concentrated on legal matters the degree to which the agreement is binding separation agreement to water sharing agreements and conflict resolution mechanisms as well as various other limited technical issues. Analysts agree that mismanagement of ethiopias grandam will affect the irrigation of farmland in sudan. The capacity of result is a 6 to 7000000000 cubic metres but the goods is 47000000000 if the water released by the good as above or is it is capacity that would lead to its destruction another issue is that the irrigation of land along the nile will reduce by an estimated 50 percent farmer and need a mix of the wit and dry seasons so the agricultural patterns will be affected. Has been in expects any changes to the Blue Mountains floor will further change the landscape of his home but he hopes to continue growing crops just like his ancestors have done for generations. Now that if european dam has thought it has been filled in some of the 1st ways and that if you can seem to be keen on moving forward the 3 sides if youre sudan and egypt say that theyre keen to work out an agreement sudans Prime Minister says that any unilateral move will not be acceptable because there will be an impact on people who live downstream both in sudan in egypt especially for farmers and especially for projects in sudan such as such as the risk areas them and agriculture projects which hundreds of thousands of people rely on thank you for that heber morgan reporting there live from the ethiopia sudan border saying in africa kenya is government is being accused of mistreating many people evicted from one of the largest tree covered parts of the country the forest Human Rights Watch says more than a 50000. 00 people have been forced from their homes in the last 2 years at least 6000. 00 are in camps with few supplies and no compensation for conditions in the camps and Police Violence during evictions is blamed for at least 7 deaths last year police are also accused of forcing villagers to burn down their homes while stealing from them and destroying their food and animals the government says no one died during the of actions and they had illegally settled on the land for years cutting down trees and causing deforestation lets speak to. This hes a Senior Researcher at the Africa Division of Human Rights Watch and is live from nairobi thank you very much for being with us on knowledge is there now i know that you spoke to the people some of the people whove been evicted in the face of police denials or dest tell us about what theyve told you and you know whether or not theres been violence and deaths. Thank you we did talk to. Close to 50 people. Most of them were people who had been evicted last year by the victims started in 2018 during which 40000 people last year another 10000 did. During this evictions kenyan authorities used excessive force. Torching peoples houses hitting them in some cases there were some shootings. For last year 92089 people died but last year 7 people died. Most of the 7 people lost because of the hostile conditions in the comes but the other 2 died because of the excessive use of force by the police who are a victim now the government says these people were on the land illegally but i know that some of them have been there for more than 30 years and theyve been periodic evictions for years now what is driving the government to do this and is there any Legal Recourse for these people. The government says it is trying to conserve the forests which is the largest water quarter cup scotmid area in kenya probably even the eastern horn of africa region. The encroachment on the forest was largely facilitated by government officials and some of those people in the forest even had title deeds. Legitimate total deeds which issued where they cannot govern itself so can a government has turned around diligent to most of those title deeds and is a victim of them without any compensation. Or even notice us required under current law under International Law right president kenyatta had announced a Cash Transfer scheme to help the people who have been paid by the pandemic the most vulnerable has have any of the people whove been affected received help what are the conditions like right now for them. The conditions are and the interesting thing is that can a government refuses to recognize the camps of. Those camps are illegal and therefore they dont qualify to benefit from any assistance because the government has declared those camps illegal it also means that any human to an agency that wants to assist the victim is hard to suit or. Official permission to go in there others are not allowed so that makes this situation even more difficult for the victims because they dont how farms or any businesses they used to survive on or jobs and probably donations from people but because of this Current Situation the carnivale us pandemic there are no people going there so theyre not donations on the odd jobs have also glowed up so the risk were basically looking like of being. Human he wanted and crisis out of our forests thank you very much for telling us about the situation there thank you orsino numb y. Is a Senior Researcher at the Africa Division for Human Rights Watch joining us there from nairobi thank you for your time now afghanistans ministry of defense asking for and carrying out an airstrike that killed at least 45 people a district governor in the Western Province of herat says at least 8 civilians are among the dead the government says taliban fighters were targeted and civilians werent in the area they toria funtown is a professor of peace studies at the American University of afghanistan she says the attack will impact future peace talks. The trust that has been built of between the different parties to the completely broken there has been no we ducked in violence in the past few weeks quite the contrary and so after this airstrike which was a supposedly target taliban prisoners who had been released by the government obtuse yet of this strike this is going to further damage the potential relationship that could have been established between the of the government and the taliban so it is not looking good for the future of any peace talks in afghanistan and the us tension once again in a cities in Portland OregonSecurity Forces have launched a gas and protesters have lit fires on the streets theyre angry because federal officers have been sent to control demonstrations which have been going on for 56 nights at present donald trump responded to deploy more officers this time to the cities of chicago and albuquerque he says to control what he calls rising crime others say its an election stunt. By cuba has sent thousands of doctors and nurses abroad to help combat covert 19 and the island is succeeding at keeping numbers down at home fewer than 100 deaths in just over 2400 cases have been reported so far at augusta and reports from havana. Every morning approximately student as the dumb era walks through soviet style apartment blocks knocking on doors. Are gone fair and i got out i was in the attic without going to. Cubas 28000 medical students have been told they must knock on doors every day if they want to graduate but the country also has the highest doctor to patient ratio in the world and across the island Family Doctors nurses and students are working to track down what the virus Health Experts call a gory hes preparing to reopen the cafe she founded said the islands preventative approach has been a success. Humor is doing it door to door every single place whether its a home a state enterprise a ministry everyone is getting checked down so its very block by block and its organized and it allows the Health System to take kind of a snapshot of whats happening and their holes of course you know maybe youre active screen or sick one day or something but in my personal experience every single day i think and you know for months that weve had active screening there have been a few days where they havent come by wearing face masks in public is mandatory those that dont wear them can be fined and those suspected of carrying the virus according to and after returning from the us in march journalist Monica Rivera was put in an Isolation Center for 2 weeks and i was a comment on our. It was like a boarding school they tested asked to see whether we had the wireless we had a temperature is checked 3 times a day and a mosque change daily to. The ministry of health detected no domestic transmission of coronavirus over the weekend but during the week 16 people have already tested positive students like us that are likely to get a break and its time soon at augustan aljazeera have on a. Time now for sports his speech for the thank you so much of the Tokyo Olympics once again marking a year to go on through the bid. Games they held a special ceremony at the main Olympic Stadium in the japanese capital tokyo 2020 was postponed because of the coronavirus pandemic but with the virus far from contained the games are still very much in doubt as david states reports. Back in the pool for the 1st time in months like so many olympic athletes brazilian swimmer anna marcelo has been unable to train properly because of the pandemic but with the reopening of facilities in rio she can now refocus on getting ready for the perspiring games in tokyo a year from now i wanted to. Its a good time for us to go back looking forward to the 2021 of them picks the field and starting over to philip dreams. Brazil is the worlds 2nd most infected country with more than 80000 deaths so athletes at the Olympic Training Center must follow strict biosecurity rules but it beats training at home. Yeah you dont present i came back from denmark with a knee problem in june and was in quarantine training at home is not the same as training here im very motivated to recover quickly and return 100 percent in preparation for tokyo a year to go but doubts and uncertainty remain about what the olympics will look like or if theyll even go ahead at all with a world wide containment of the coronavirus seemingly some way off it will be a huge challenge to stage qualifying events and then bring 11000. 00 athletes to tokyo not to mention spectators and broadcasters this is a member of the task because we cannot prepare or games as we are used to in fact there we have to prepare for multiple scenarios of games we have to take all these seem to work out what could happen what may happen the International Olympic committee estimates the delay will set them back 800000000. 00 but whats less clear is the size of the bill for. Japanese taxpayers before the perspire meant the games were already set to cost more than 12000000000. 00 all 42. 00 venues have been secured for next year but if it is stage without fans the loss of ticket revenue will hit hard despite the grim economic landscape though organizers remain hopeful they can keep hold of existing sponsors and maybe even attract new ones to think is that businesses are in dire circumstances because of coronavirus but still there are companies who are coming forward to say they want to sponsor the games which we appreciate very much its a break piece of news. Tokyo last hosted the games in 1964 if they do return in 2021 that unlikely to be such a grand affair with organizers already scaling back their original plan but given the Global Situation with 365. 00 days to go getting the flame lit it all would be a victory in itself providing some light at the end of a very dark tunnel david stokes aljazeera Chinese State television has taken the English Premier League off the air amid growing tensions between china and britain c.
