On standby for operations in war torn libya and on World Refugee day we consider the plight of the millions of people displaced by violence in the democratic republic of congo. Im legal means with the sports news including an update on the motor sport and power alex so noddy hes in a serious but stable condition following surgery on a severe head injury suffered in a crush on thursday well hear from one of the doctors treating him in history. A tell all memoir by the former u. S. National security advisor john bolton will be released next week after a District Court declined a request by the white house to block its publication the trumpet ministration had argued the room where it happened contained classified information and it not gone through the necessary clearances but was more than 200000 copies already distributed alton argued it was too late to stop its release donald trump has called the memoir a compilation of lies and made up stories well despite that donald trump has welcomed the ruling and says bolton will have to give back any money that he makes. Give me back in my opinion they are going to give it back i think its very smart and very good at what. I think is a great. Obviously the book was already out. But in the by the way so we got to. Well mike hanna joins us live now from washington d. C. For more on this is interesting hearing the president they are calling this a great ruling mean the judge technically ruled against wrong but he was also scathing about bolton tell us a little bit about what the judges reasons were to come to the conclusion that he came to. Well in summation the judge said and these were his exact words the horse had left the bomb what hes referring to is the fact that excerpts from the book have been printed widely in the us media in recent days the judge apparently regarding this as now taking away from the administration any right to argue that harm would be done to it by the books publication or indeed the administrations argument that harm would be done to the public so that was the judges ruling in terms of rejecting the injunction by the administration but as you say he was highly critical of john bolton as saying that bolton had gambled with National Security as he put it and had laid himself open to civil and perhaps criminal prosecution now that is what President Trump is referring to in terms of his reaction to the case saying that it was a great Court Decision and that is that the administration could now well decide to take either civil or criminal action against john bolton certainly put a freeze on any proceeds he may get from sales of the book so this is not over yet but because of this judges ruling one thing is certain at this stage and that is that the American Public as a whole will be able to read john boltons allegations in detail on tuesday. And that like weve also had a bit of a development in the Jeffrey Berman case the man has a new u. S. Attorney who was meant to resign and then he said he wasnt going to but whats the latest. Well what happened is that the attorney general william barr later issued a statement saying that Jeffrey Berman was standing down by had apparently offered him a different position berman had said no berman then issued his own statement saying theres no way that he was resigning also that he was not appointed by the senate or nominated through the senate he was in fact appointed by a bank of judges in new york so there is argument about that in the course of the day william by then sent a letter to berman who incidentally had a rifle work today and waiting for him was a letter from william barr saying because of your Statement Last night i have asked the president to fire you and he has immediately done so but thats not the end of the story the prosecutor is likely to seek legal advice saying that it is not within the president s right to fire him and certainly not if in the attorney generals right so theres a lot more going to be going on here but in the in interim the deputy has been put in place until President Trumps favorite nominee takes over now that nominee is going to be handling the number of cases dealing with President Trumps interests not least. Confidant Rudy Giulianis foreign dealings investigation into some of giulianis a. Tax evasion Campaign Funds for donald trump and then of course theres a major case which links to john boltons book and that is a turkish bank that has already been indicted on 6 counts that is connected to president according to john bolton so a lot to still uncover a lot of twists and turns there am i can do with the latest from washington d. C. Mike thank you. Well staying in the u. S. The president is now on his way to oklahoma for his 1st major public rally since the Coronavirus Crisis began its being held in tulsa where in 1921 a white mall but killed 300 africanamericans the rally follows weeks of anti racism protests across the United States in response to the Police Killing of george floyd state officials are also concerned that the number of people at the event could lead to a surge in coronavirus cases well jay gray joins us live now from tulsa so jay this is obviously a highly anticipated dissipative event for a Trump Supporters but controversial for so many reasons the coronavirus situation bilocation in a way narrowly avoided the date being controversial as well tell us a little bit about whats going on there. Barbara i think you describe it perfectly and it really has created whats an uneasy tension on the ground right now i want to give you a real time look at what were seeing at this point crowd starting to trickle in to what is a security zone here as they make their way toward the arena were still hours ahead of the rally here tonight the president on his way as you talk about what you see in this crowd is a lot of people walking through the atmosphere more street party than it is rally right now early theyre all given facemasks at the gate and if you as you can see or wearing those mass some carrying them in but but few people have been wearing these mask in many say they want even though covert 1000 is on the rise here and tolson across the state of oklahoma and even those 6 advance that team members who are working on the ground here in tulsa have mounted positive for the virus you can see behind the gates here all so its a part of the National Guard thats keeping watch over whats going on here you mentioned the tensions and the racial violence here in the early 1900 there are other rallies in other areas of the city to support groups like black lives matter and other groups pushing for systematic change and policing across this country but to this point theres been no real confrontation between those 2 groups a few pockets of protesters mixed in with the crowds preparing for this rally but again no real Serious Problems to this point where we talked a little bit about the virus just to get back to that in a sense there will be hand washing sanitation stations and side of the arena theres a private vendor here today the t. V. Giving out these face shield so there are about 40000 of these that are are being given out to those going into the arena but again weve seen few people that are wearing them when you asked some of the Trump Supporters why they say they they dont fear the virus at this point that they have the right constitutionally not to wear. Any protection and in fact the state Supreme Court here in oklahoma has verified that there was a lawsuit filed before the event that would have required those going to the rally here to at the very least. Follow the c. D. C. Guidelines for social distancing you mourn facemask they ruled you dont have to do that bar will be interesting to see what happens here 2 weeks later perhaps in the early grave with the latest from for the moment jay thank you. Well dr frankly on roberts is the founder of the black lives matter syllabus at New York University he joins us now by skype from new york sir thank you so much for joining us here on aljazeera we just heard from our correspondent there in tulsa about the preparations for this rally obviously as we were explaining to our International Viewers as a very particular history of racial violence how do you interpret the fact that the president chooses toll so of all places to hold his 1st rally since the pandemic. Well 1st of all thank you for having me and happy juneteenth weekend. Donald trump understands their White Nationalism cannot survive with a black in need to position itself against him so this rally its also is in many ways an attempt to position what many would call White Nationalists make America Great again movement against what is clearly a rising black freedom black protest movement happening in the streets of America Today and so donald trump understands that because if nothing else donald trump is a master of metaphor and symbolism so by symbolically having a rally on the very good of juneteenth this is symbolically an attack on the very principles of black freedom that the dream team pollinate represents and i think thats intentional it did you say its intentional do you think i mean i dont whether he ever tried to get the black vote in the United States but the think that President Trump pads assuming that he tried kind of given up on that. Absolutely i think that donald trump in the Republican Party more broadly have more than given up on their own actually having black voters as constituents they are interested however in using black people and black issues as props as mobilizing issues to mobilize a largely White Working Class base and so thats what this is this is not about speaking to black people this is about using black people. As a way of actually inciting his base so i think thats whats going on this week and today its also. We introduced her as the founder of the black lives matter syllabus a New York University and i think its one of the 1st of its kind isnt it trying to explain the movement and i guess of course the history of africanamericans in the United States tell us a little bit more about that and especially because of tulsa because its a story a call as significance just how important you think that knowing the historical facts is for both black and whites in the United States absolutely so the black lives matter syllabus is a National Grassroots organizing campaign that in for size as the relationship between radical organizing and radical study all of that means is that essentially if you want to be a good protester or a good organizer you have to be a good student of history and to your point its very important for us to understand how when we see rallies taking place in these historical sites like told of it is not by accident its a part of a long claim both by the republicans there really begins with the Nixon Administration of really trying to use blah issues black social justice issues as a way to issue for White Working Class voters the Republican Party has been doing this again for decades but donald trump has based his entire presidency on this also just want to say this i think its important for us to understand at this rally is also an act of desperation donald trump is an american president imperiled and this is a prayer. Didnt see that may very well be on its dying leg and this is a movement the make America Great again movie that they very well be on its dying leg and so this rally is a bold attempt to greet life into a dying presidency and a dying White Nationalist movement is so i dont want to put words into your mouth but you seem to be quite optimistic that this very divisive president and i guess you know the weeks of protests of the start of protests that weve seen in the usa do you think its a turning point for the better when it comes to Race Relations oh i only have pulled in young black people because of the story historically they have been the constituency to pave the way and to keep their eye stayed on freedom so long the whole fall that they are going to continue to do that now in terms of america at large i do think were on the track were at a turning point i think that this is a moment that i think americans are starting to understand that were not going to get another opportunity to get this right and so its now or never but ultimately to be honest none of us will know until november this is all about what happens in the member will tell us whether or not we have to deal with 4 more years of a truck presidency or or if we can begin to at least shift to have a conversation about how to actually make America Great for all people not just a White Nationalist shows and looking forward to november it has been an incredibly eventful Election Year thats for certain dr frankly on roberts founder of the black lives matter syllabus at New York University so thank you so much for sharing your views with us thank you thank you. And coming up on aljazeera this news hour in the d. R. See the president s chief of staff is sentenced to 20 years of hard labor for embezzling millions of dollars grieving for their missing loved ones and families plead for the release of syrian detainees. And the race for the spanish football ties will is heating up and so are the mind games between barcelona and real madrid. Libyas internationally recognized government has rejected a decision by egypts president to become involved in the libyan conflict during a tour of an air base near egypts western border with libya president that the c. C. Said he told the are told the army to be ready to carry out missions abroad including in war torn libya he also warned Government Forces backed by turkey against attacking the strategic city of see it saying that would cross a red line and trigger a military intervention from egypt turkey says that will only be a sustainable ceasefire if warlord. Withdraws his forces from syria meanwhile the head of libyas internationally recognized government has been in an area for talks with the president said our president of the midget to borneo who has been trying to mediate in the conflict in libya but that the a funny is an associate professor of Political Science at long Long Island University and the senior fellow at the center for Global Policy in washington d. C. She joins us by skype from new jersey madame thank you so much for joining us here on aljazeera what do you make of these comments from the egyptian president to and what do you think has been us has the Tipping Point that has made him change his mind effectively about the potential involvement of egypt in libya. Its been a tough week for presidency see he started the week by making overtures to turkey by having this initiative which was refused by the u. N. Backed National Government National Accord and turkey and so he finds itself in a situation today where he looks weak in on the International World stage and in order to make up for that he wants to put his troops on high alert hes also declared that there is this red line that if forces pasties to strategically cities that egypt would have to get involved and lets look at the Bigger Picture its been a coalition of egypt the u. A. E. And russia on the side of have to are and this is the egypt is of these countries the only one that actually shares a large border with libya so egypt has done is unfortunately put itself in a strategic position where its weakened on the interNational Security stage where its actually become a play a weaker party doing the bidding of countries like the u. A. E. And russia russia today enjoys a very large base in the eastern part of libya so by sisi putting himself in a weaker strategic position hes undermining Egyptian Security and also allowing for russia and the u. A. E. People to play larger roles that wont hurt them but russia will strategically have to be in the in the powerful position now what he finds himself in his in one of 2 places if those lines are crossed he actually either has to go to war without International Approval or seize more territory 2 forces that are not in keeping with history teaching position so hes between a rock and a hard place. Sisi is also not really paying attention to the southern border and whats happening there in terms of the feeling of the national dam. Egypt is suffering from a major covert crisis one of the top 10 worst countries in the world today and theres also been a clampdown. On covering these stories and so we see c. C. Is strategically weekend on the inside of egypt but today very apparently on the outside where he cannot secure his southern or western border but the sort of language that hes used you know speaking of red lines when it comes to see if the media think the president is realistically considering proper military involvement in libya absolutely not because he will not have support a mass the International Community is not want to and youre going to see that if in within one week he was making overtures to turkey which supports the u. N. Backed government and then rescinds on that when the when the when the offers were rejected youre seeing someone who is not really serious about going to war but is strategically trying to make himself strong look stronger on the International World stage because he has compromised egyptian National Security. Hes been acting like an agent for other states and put egypt in a position where its weekend on its borders and so hes making these overtures and we know he wont follow through egypt has not gone gone to war in over 50 years its not going to start today. That the a funny associate professor of Political Science at Long Island University im sure will be discussing this topic again soon and fortunately because jewish in libya libya does not seem to be stabilizing at all but for the moment thank you. C. Thank you very much for what you need to in the dearest prison or 520000 refugees from ronda from saucer. And Central Africa republic mostly. We also have over 5000000 internally displaced people this congolese who do cross the borders and even move. Or see and tell us about the situation on the ground for the refugees the things they need which i presume are pretty obvious you know what all of us need but but crucially you know how much is available. The situation on the ground in the d. N. C. Is very tough because of the indiscriminate violence and also because of the Human Rights Violations just in the last 2 months in april or may we recorded more than 3000 Human Rights Violations that had to do with people being the internally displaced people informed us that some people were being killed by masha it is. Houses were being burnt and women raped so the situation is extremely difficult of course it has ruined the population even more vulnerable because they have been displaced over the since 2000 and been an increase in displacement just last month over 200000 people again were displaced to swell the numbers that are already indicated of 5000000 people there poppy metabolisms have been run down completely because people move from one place to the other sometimes to go and live in plan and oftentimes in spontaneous sites some even among their Host Community who themselves are displaced so we are dealing with an extremely difficult situation Young Children are not wrist and some of they havent gone to school for quite a long time now regardless of the cause of it which has also complicated the situation im not talking of it well here are situations where Young Children happy and recruited again by the armed forces you know that they armed groups not and forces the there are over 123 groups in east india risky so altogether a compelling situation what we have for this population we will never to give them a small distributions of. Of resources 150. 00 for distribution to those that are the most vulnerable so that immediate needs weve also been able to cover some shelter but its not been anywhere near what we ought to be truly needs a huge will eat foods forgive me for interrupting you mention the cove in crisis and you know the further strain that its putting on the country how is it affecting the funding of course youre speaking to us from the u. N. Has that had an impact and if so what kind it has happened massive impact or give you an example where you honestly have only received 21 percent of 168000000. 00 that we wanted or for the operation in india r. C. So that is a very very very little we thank the donors will give we are fully aware of the impact of course we dont know what has an International Community but we absolutely must have more or else the displaced people are going to is going to spiro out of control really his own un Regional Representative for refugees in the democratic republic of congo madame sank you so much for your time thank you thank you thank you very much for the 4th weekend in a row black lives matter protesters have been rallying in cities across the u. Black lives matter its a powerful slogan is intended for people here and an amiable truth but for some people in the u. K. Its a slogan that they struggle with taking it to mean for some reason black life should matter more than otherwise were thats not what it means what it does mean is a call for parity equality and a call to be heard but. Recent protests are prompted the reevaluation of british history stand choose upon the slave owners of toppled and National Heroes including Winston Churchill have faced scrutiny for their racist views. Its some subtle to many on the political right just because your skin color as you know something or you you know you are a woman or youre a man doesnt mean something that happened decades ago centuries ago to someone who looked like you its not it shouldnt affect you this is collectivism this is i didnt see politics that the governments been accused of downplaying the protests with the foreign secretary dont make facing criticism after saying the black lives matter action of taking the knee region ated in the t. Some of iraqs most Traditional Craftwork is a risk of dying out as cheap imports from china and india drive prices down the government hopes the direct state support will help local enterprises thrive and in turn help when the economy off its the pendency on oil one of fulton reports that from baghdad since he was a child. Has built for additional furniture from palm fronds his precise moves are the result of generations of expertise passed down from his father and grandfather but now the trait is addressed of dying out or not the more. My children havent learned it and i dont want to learn it my eldest son abbas he tried but he prefers to work as a porter at construction sites. During saddam husseins time chairs and beds made of palm fronds where household item in iraq their mesh designs suited for a country summer heat but out of the 20 shops that used to be here only 4 are left cheap imports from turkey and china have eroded demand for iraq he made goods if you want to see more than one customer he came to me and said why do you sell the chair for 10 us dollars while the imported plastic chair costs half i told him this is different its traditional it takes a lot of if it and this is stronger than the plastic but they dont care about that. Last year government officials visited the market and in an effort to save it they plan to employ the workers in a state owned Company Similar to this one which specializes in producing handmade carpets back in 1980 s. Most of the factories output was shipped to saddams palaces but designs have hardly evolved to suit modern tastes and demand has dwindled. The goal is to preserve our heritage and to tell the world what we have in our country we are not looking for profit we are ready to lose money to promote our heritage as iraq slips deeper into a fiscal crisis sustaining such state owned companies could become increasingly difficult the solution to reviving Traditional Craftsmanship like many other sectors of iraqs economy lies not for much in Government Programs but in the private sector and there is one company in baghdad that is trying to do just that. The selling point for this company is quality and the made in iraq label its workshop of a dozen employees who work on modern versions of traditional iraqi furniture. But convincing customers to pay extra remains a challenge and lowering the price would require scale and an environment that supports private Sector Investment on the way. In my opinion the state isnt focused on industry. If it was that offer the Raw Materials provide land provide investment licenses often machines particular workers with the social or the new government has made private Sector Development one of its priorities but for craftsman like.
