Joe biden condemns president from standing at the nationwide Police Brutality protests. And 10 scenes outside the white house again with a curfew now in full effect across the u. S. Capital. And after President Trump visited a catholic shrine criticism mounts hes using religion as i can mix a call to. The family of george for lloyd has made an emotional appeal for justice as protests continue across the country despite curfews and threats of force the mother of floyds daughter paid tribute to him describing floyd as a good man and emphasizing the impact his killing will have on his child. Well there were ads you weigh. He will never walk down. It is a problem see the baby needs he needs that day he does not have day anymore. And therefore not pay. Any of purely. Because that one yes is the hill. Before its death or spot days of protests including in washington d. C. The us president has come under criticism for his handling of the tense situation in particular the forced removal of protesters outside the white house in order for donald trump to have a photo opportunity at a nearby church when Peaceful Protesters dispersed in order for a president the pressure from the doorstep of the peoples house the white house using tear gas d and flash grenades during this stage for a long fight on one of the most Historic Churches in the country or at least in washington d. C. We can be forgiven for believing the president is more interested in power then in friendship. Were just serving the passion that was based on the needs of the people is clear well ministers including those attached to the church the trump visited have also criticized the president accusing him of using religion as props for his own political ends and protests are continuing across the country that curfew has been place in many cities to keep order the protests have been mostly peaceful during the day but nightfall has brought some looting and vandalism in certain areas. Well well be talking to john hendren in minneapolis a little bit lets take you to some pictures from earlier in new york. We know that there were there were protests there during the day and here we see protest as walking down midtown we had violence last night in midtown has a protest as arrested there was some bomb them as a man looting in midtown so thats the scene now live from new york but lets go back to minneapolis for a 2nd to talk to john hendren so john lets talk 1st about that george floyd Family Press Conference in minneapolis was tearful it was poignant so so one of the family have to say. Well roxie washington was the one who really did the most poignant speaking there and she said that George Clooney has left a jogger who will never know her father will never have another graduation never see never will never see her walk down the aisle and she talked about justice for george what in his familys been very clear about what that is his brother cherone stopped about this yesterday and that is they want all 4 of the officers who arrested george floyd to face charges now one of them already has derek chiffon is charged with 3rd degree murder and with manslaughter but they want all 4 of those officers to be charged and i just want to give you a little look around here daryn at the scene here if you look back there under those tents at that gas station you can see that there are people speaking a lot of listeners and then theres been music here theres food theres been even dancing at point over here there is a flower memorial that you can see where people have laid for him and then here is the somber sight behind me. And that is where george floyd spent his last moments it was right in front of this food store. And that is where the real memorial has been you can see the newest addition over here is the george floyd painting but i want to introduce you to somebody this is a grand jury who lives here 3 interesting facts about any. Liz in the military is a fireman and a new prince but were not going to talk about that today were going to talk about why youre here im here because. This is this story the part of history its a part of our history 7. I think that minnesota started a revolution across the country and nobody expected ive been talking about this for a year that some like this is going to happen i just didnt think it was going to start from minnesota and so what do you get i mean what are you hearing people say why are they still out in the streets now after its now been a day. Well. If you live in this city and you know what its like this is like a great cloud over the city right now. People are sold trust the nation right with this colvin and everybody been in isolation in iraq before an employee in the in the turn on the t. V. Or be out here and see Something Like that take place thats that was a snapping point thats all they needed was that was the few sort of fire right and instead of home theres one officer being convicted what happened to the other and very and thats why everybodys out here and if there was 4 on the department and there might be 4. 00 to 8. 00 more to it you dont know if they operate in the same in the sense right its a its a some private club that you join and youre sworn into secrecy and not to betray your brother. And as an africanamerican man here and in minnesota you feel like that could have been you. I do despite my intelligence despite my resume despite my work my work ethic and my successes i feel like that could have been me. That thats thats somewhat been me ive been pulled out of my car. And its based off of what type of vehicle youre driving if i drive my old winter beater im a rascal for those if i drive my little macheda. And it shouldnt be that way cant judge a man based off of the car he drives you know judge a man based off a man right so in a sense youre here for george floyd but youre also here for whoever might be next right or slow it is me hes hes hes a lot of minorities hes a lot of will arrest people not just minorities people that are. Oppressed by the system i can ask i can ask his generalized question not to line up 10 men here every nationality and ask him do you get nervous when you when a cop car gets behind you you even get nervous when a cop car gets wind oh yeah and you got all the right credentials i got all the right one interest right because your safety in your life is in the hands of someone that could paint their own picture of you despite your successes and it should be that way. And how long do you think this is going to happen how long are you going to keep coming out here. Until we get justice to all all officers involved in officers are like them are held accountable. All right well i just want to thank you akita for for talking to us and walking us through all that im sorry were not supposed to do that ill give you want to bring my apologies but that is that sampling of you from here really and its one ive heard from nearly every africanamerican young man ive talked to here and that is each one of them feel that what happened to george floyd could have happened to them. And john we know that minnesota has filed a civil rights charge of dense the Minneapolis Police over the death of george floyd well what does this all mean john. Well the governor has been keen to end these protests and he said i know that those. Protesters think that officials are not listening to them and i want them to know that i am listening to them we have filed discrimination charges against the Minnesota Police department what that does is it triggers an investigation that investigation looked half back 10 years into whether there has been systemic racism specifically against africanamericans in the minneapolis state Police Department and meanwhile hes seeking to make a voluntary agreement with the Minneapolis State Police to change their policies so it can be a more racially Fair Department all right john hendren live for us in minneapolis john thank you for that lets cross over now to washington d. C. And talk to show how. Seems a protest as you were telling us earlier splits into smaller groups tonight tell us where you on whats happening now. What about outside the white house they move in small groups they work around the Police Follow them when they come back some of them come back some of the we understand may be heading towards the capitol but were not really sure about the several 100 people now outside the white house once again the difference this evening is in the topography as we now have this fence here and the Security Forces are all in line behind in some ways its sort of feels much more secure as a result because as a result the combat troops are just right next to us pepper spraying us kidnapping house and so on bajor just sort of behind our lives like kept in that cage and i have come out every now and im up a spreadsheet offense but back read back then because i was a bit will reassure you got the sense and i was told is that people do you think donald trump is just he had his photo opportunity had his crackdown and now maybe theyll allow this to be a peaceful site a protest which is i mean a reason to volunteer is because the the tricks the troops starts sort of talking the protest is just what is the hype but you know and you know when theyre actually going on a development to to bring you well the defense secretary has given. Him an interview where he says when he came out with donald trump to visit the church or visit the white house he had no idea where he was going in fact unlucky. Brad i did if you can focus he thought he was visiting this building here which is a toilet in Lafayette Square which has some graffiti on it he said it was i thought i was concerned i was going to see a dime a jug a toilet in Lafayette Square he says he had no idea he was going to the church is really interesting is that hes distancing himself from visits to try to just enjoy him just go so much drugs and other to the joint chiefs of staff that he was there in full combat gear and theres a lot of outrage about that this took the show he got very quick very glad it got short because hes a veteran activist and hes been on so many. Part just here in d. C. About Police Brutality and getting justice and i want to i would use you feel that Something Different in order that everything will go back to normal once again in a few days well i would say that you know the intensity of Police Repression that weve seen over the last few days though not this evening is unlike anything ive seen personally in washington d. C. And in the last few years having been organizing here and in terms about whether or not people work again i think that depends on the extent to which people are organized ultimately thats what will have to be a result of all of this effort youve been seeing thousands and thousands of people take to the streets all across the country here in d. C. Facing incredible repression being gassed being shot at with pellets and things like this we had a whole scene in here in washington d. C. Last night of people being trapped on the street being gassed unfortunately some people taking them into their homes as always been an all out systemic assault i would say on a protest here in d. C. And so again moving forward he spent 2 weeks that can coalesce around a kind of organized thrust or just as i think obama can always seem to force as a different street outrage of Police Brutality and actual connecting of the dots between the Police Brutality and the economy and the Democratic Party when you see were joined by can t. Shirts around by can use the alter so much legislation that empowers the police in the in the 1st place and hes contrite now but he was boasting about it not so long that guy i mean do you feel that people are connecting the dots or is about all trump is about. Hes the reason why the still you know it by rule of 3 things i mean thats not what youre looking for what do you think there will suddenly you know the political spectrum out here once again but you make an important point connecting the economy in Economic Issues with race to lose to you know were still very much in the midst of a thing about has been damaged and the United States government has completely abandoned its people weve got 40 some odd 1000000 people unemployed all these different issues not top of all of them feel average at least theyre happening and so this is all flowing from the capitalist system in my opinion and so for me it seems important to make that connection not only to sort of get a better idea of music ensemble but so that we can begin to serious questions about what kind of side and what kind of system do we want moving forward seeing that the capitalist system is not us solving our problems and in fact was designed to do so i should go for that youre talking about a complete change of the entire american system so what he was not realistic as the country faces around the sort of gist of the footprint thats added some ways to the protests that were seeing today it will be realistic when we make it real for the people of cuba action so the same question the people of venezuela of vietnam china acts themselves all the same question grenada before they had their revolution to completely over change their society and so i think the big we have to do what they did we have to seize the time and. You know be you know take charge of our own destiny and have the confidence that we can in fact change society all it takes is the will to do it and the organization to carry it out properly sean lavin thank you very much you we will remain and its a nice act with a preview we just hope but maybe a little stay this is always a vigorous protest its a very solid sense that its you know this like civility is a good thing it means its you know you can handle a certain amount of a beating theres no way its coming out my this is what we have about you know that all of the all the tricks i went outside and all coming through this way so i will have to see they have to go around there i want to tear us out well be all right to come back to later on throughout the night thats me but the finale. Police in new york have begun making arrests off of the citys curfew came into effect thousands of people remained on the streets despite an early curfew people are being ordered to go home in the last few days theres been some looting and vandalism in the nighttime curfew set to remain in place until sunday but the state Governor Andrew Cuomo has criticized new york citys response to the protests he said the police there havent done enough to stop looting and vandalism cameras offer to send the National Guard to help restore order. The n. Y. P. D. And the mayor did not do their job last night i believe. Second you have 38000 and y. P. The people it is the largest Police Department in the United States of america you a 1000 people and protect property use the Police Protect property and people look at the video it was a disgrace but the citys mayor bill de blasio says deploying the National Guard only heightened tensions we do not need nor do we think its wise for the National Guard to be in new york city nor any Armed Forces Im going to tell you why this is really important we have this hour right now if someone needs a History Lesson when outside armed forces go into communities no good comes of it or gave a liaison that was in new york where police are trying to enforce the curfew. It started as a peaceful protest but things have turned taking a turn for the worst weve seen some looting theyve got a gentleman in custody over there the police are just showing up here in force right now. As another night of chaos here in new york city. They were. There and barely there. Were looting chase bank. Down the street here. Again the curfew is in effect right now. And we saw a group of about 20. 00 to 30. 00 break off. And there was the start of the booster who we were. And then the Police Responded this is what weve seen all night groups of looters that are breaking off from the peaceful protests and then start some sort of looting and then within usually 5 minutes you see a Huge Police Presence descend on the scene and thats exactly what were seeing right here right now while in the last few hours a curfew has come into effect in los angeles hes ahead of the go had a mode of protest as well still out on the streets in fewer numbers and earlier in the day more than 2700 of them have been arrested in the city since the protests began nearly all of them for curfew violations or refusing to dismiss so lets go to the west coast now to talk to rob reynolds there in Los Angeles Bob said things seem to calm down there but now tell us whats been happening on the streets around. Well there have been huge protests peaceful protests marching people chanting of course that black lives matter justice for darryl floyd and for. The george florida excuse me and for others who have lost their lives during encounters with the police but now it seems to be very very quiet you can see police are behind me but i think thats a good thing that people are actually and hearing through the curfew again in a very peaceful manner its interesting i know you were talking at length to about the trip that President Trump took to that Historic Church in. That square yesterday for the purposes of a photo op and to hold up a bible well an interesting response to that from a group of faith leaders here in los angeles who on wednesday a leaders from a variety of religious traditions are going to gather at a church in santa monica to hold their own protest meeting and to gather to to to discuss the situation in a rabbi neil daniels organize the event said quote the president s attempt to hijack the spiritual richness of america cannot go on the answer and he also said that that they hope by this gathering of faith leaders to show what a real response to a response that is to Racial Injustice looks like now im joined by. Coleman who is here and has been protesting today and cuomo we dont want to keep you too late because we know its curfew time so we deeply appreciate you taking the time to talk to us now i understand youre actually in town visiting friends and you felt that it was very important even though youre sort of on vacation to come out and take part to. I mean why yes or i just did it bill is right staying inside as a black man while this is going on you know ive been told since i was a child you know years like the police you know you always you know so respect to others but at the same time what were saying is you know we can lead to nothing and were still going to be killed for it so i just thought i need to come out here and im a voice heard and be a part of the movement what would be that sign that would convince yourself and the thousands and tens hundreds of thousands perhaps of people who are demonstrating around the country that their point has been taken and that something is going to change what would that what would that look like to you its going to take a real change were going to have to change the way that they operate their day to day operations theyve got to go through and talk to the office starry currently employed and retrain because obviously somethings wrong in the way that the way theyre being put out because it happens way too frequently to come and does it go beyond just you know Police Tactics and training is there a much broader change that. Is due in the United States absolutely absolutely we need to acknowledge that there is an issue here and that we do need to be a change 1st of all but the 1st step is acknowledging because right now its not being knowledge you know every time we have a movement or met with the another opposing the black classmate of course but then we have all asthmatic and we never said almost in a matter all of us matter you know im a im a christian man i love everybody but everyone is not being oppressed right now its black people it is people of color and dust issue here as a as a self described christian man what was your reaction when you saw President Trump having ordered the strike the square cleared by police to go and stand in front of the church and hold up a bible. I didnt i didnt. You know i didnt agree with with that i think it was almost dismissing the movie only dismissing you know and not knowledge being that we have voices out here and we want to be heard in a day thats all written for we want to hurt and we try to peacefully and thats not welcomed either you know we try to take any you know people dont like that you know so what else can we do you know were hands time you know i dont know what to do home and thank you very much for speaking with us i know you want to get back to where youre staying before the curfew really kicks in so thanks very much again and best of luck to you and stay safe ok so dare and again a very few people out on the streets of hollywood here we heard also that there was a major gathering of protesters at the home of mayor Eric Garcetti the mayor of los angeles that again was peaceful i have to say of course as night falls things sometimes do change you mentioned the number of arrests that have occurred there is a curfew in place and so we will see what happens as the night goes on but so far it looks peaceful daryn back to you rob just stay with us for a 2nd because i want to show our viewers some pictures of the Police Coming out in force in another part of hollywood with same pitch as a Police Cruiser or a number of Police Vehicles with officers Milling Around youve been covering hollywood most of the day today im not sure where this is inhalation to you but what could be happening there i mean that there are there are quite a lot of Police Vehicles in the street. What can say happens if there are significant groups of people who are disregarding the curfew or if there are people who are you know breaking the law by trying to take things from stores or Something Police will race to that location and then strategically place themselves in the streets and alleys surrounding that area and then sort of move in and as people scatter and run they are then intercepted in the streets and alleys so. Again i dont know exactly what youre seeing there but that is certainly not a typical we just heard of a bunch of police cars go by not long ago so maybe they were heading in that direction but its kind of a cat and mouse type of situation if the if some trouble starts somewhere or if there is a large group the police are going to to just enforce the curfew and they are not going to allow those people to congregate if there are people breaking into stores and things of that nature likewise the police are going to take action so well certainly try to find out more about what youre seeing there hopefully this inst incident that youre seeing is not going to end with any anyone getting hurt all right robin is there live for us in Hollywood Rob thank you for that. Now 4 Police Officers have been shot during protests in the state of missouri they were trying to control crowds in the city have sent numerous when they were fired at some of the demonstrators have been smashing windows looting and setting businesses on fire and officers are expected to make a full recovery but the police chief was furious about the escalating unrest in the city. Some coward fired shots at officers and now we have 4 in the hospital but thankfully and thank god theres a lot theres a lot but i you know. What can we make some sense out of this can we make some sense out of this thats all im trying to say mr flores devilish tragic but can we make some some some out of a lot of something that these kids come down here and i just thought it just thought light like like like crazy job but ive been now like like like that like theyre influenced by the jump and have family jello. Or flourishing pistols or heaven tracy back on his with the United Church of christ and far south as soon as he says violence that is going to one simple fact. I think people reached a boiling point and thats what were seeing now i want to express condolences to those the families of those operations and the op this is it is never going to take a lie and i certainly felt the deep passion employee of the police chief as he cried that there and i only wish that those tears would come every time a black light this last in st louis i wish that those tears would come from all of the people who stand in judgment in this one inch every time a young black person was killed on the streets. We need those tears we need that simply be we need to actually move was to a different place and we needed to be coming from everyone all the time no matter whose might was involved. Every evil act exacted against black and brown people in this country since the founding of black people being here still 69. Every evil act exactly against us has been. Do we go white me and cracked up by bible i dont see that any differently then would donald trump be to guests today keep wrapped up his little bible thats not new in this country its not our 1st time seeing it and it wont be our last and protests also took place in chicago with hundreds marching through the city they headed to the downtown area but are blocked by police and entering the Central Business district that area is off limits stop the looting and vandalism over the weekend city officials protesters to wear masks and practice social distancing to burn to for a surge in corona virus infections former u. S. President george w. Bush has commented on the protests saying it remains a shocking failure that many africanamericans especially young men are harassed and threatened in their own country the only way to see ourselves in a true light is to listen to the voices of so many who are hurting and grieving those who set out to silence those voices do not understand the meaning of america or how it becomes a better place when the protests against Police Brutality are drawing International Condemnation as well the un human rights chief Michelle Bachelet as weighed in and she says the protests triggered by the killing of george florida highlighting not only Police Violence against people of color but also inequalities in Health Education employment and endemic Racial Discrimination. The European Union has also criticised the use of Excessive Force by police in the Us Foreign Affairs minister just that bell says he was shocked and appalled by the death of george broad. We have to be sure everywhere especially in societies which are beijing the rule of law democratic representation and respect for freedoms and liberties and dad. People who are in charge of. Taking care of the older are not using their capacities on the way that has been used on these very very unhappy. Death. Of just flight this is not usual by what and this has to be. Just to be the nouns and to be combat interstage and everywhere canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has struggled to respond when asked about President Trumps handling of the protests heres how he reacted. Id like to ask you what you think about that and if you dont want to comment what message do you think youre sending. When we all watch in horror and consternation whats going on in the United States it is a time to pull people together. But it is a time to listen. Is a time to learn what injustices continue despite progress over years and decades. While solidarity protests have been held around the world drawing attention to Police Brutality and races in the number of Different Countries palestinians have joined in the movement in the occupied west Bank Protesters gathered outside the church of nativity lighting candles for george floyd and. A palestinian man killed by Israeli Police in jerusalems old city on saturday. Today we came to show our alliance with the oppressed in the world against injustice against the u. S. Administration that oppresses black people against the Israeli Occupation that oppression is the Palestinian People in tel aviv hundreds of israelis came to the u. S. Embassy Branch Office for a black lives matter protest some said they wanted to end Racial Discrimination in their own country. And the calls for justice for george floyd were also heard in argentina people marched through the center of the capitol but as i was to show their solidarity with the protests in the United States. There also there was also outrage in the netherlands where a socially distance protest was held against the killing of floyd they gathered in the hague taking a knee as they call for an end to Racial Discrimination their love of their history. From people who live here you. Know. Was. Was. All right lets bring you some incredible pictures now over in Portland Oregon these are these are live pictures now coming to us here at aljazeera thousands of people staging a mass sit down over what appears to be the burnside bridge thats there in Portland Oregon its the 5th day of protests in the city so live pictures there from Portland Oregon of people staging what was a sit down with on the move now across this bridge in Portland Oregon pictures there from either a helicopter or a drone not sure but thousands of protesters there on the move in Portland Oregon. Where the protests in the u. S. As well as the coronavirus pandemic are happening during an election the tuesday 7 states in a district held their primaries which had been delayed in some areas because of coronavirus extra Safety Measures were in place that in person voting stations with a number of mail in ballots the situation closely watched ahead of them as elections where it could become the norm. Or dont trump is all but certain to take on the form of Vice President joe biden for the democrats in the event but the pandemic and job losses have divided voters as christians women reports now from pennsylvania. Joe dambrosio has been cutting hair and bethlehem pennsylvania for 47 years barber shops are closed now due to the coronavirus pandemic and joe thinks thats prudent given his age hes got enough savings to ride it out a bit longer in course of one week i lost my best and oldest friends you see so its real real to me hes seen a lot of change in bethlehem over the last 4 years the local steel plant that once employed 35000 people is still mostly empty but many of its former Union Workers lean republican instead of democrat they lined the streets to greet President Trump recently when he visited a local manufacturing plant a rare trip out of the Nations Capital when much of the country was still on lockdown pennsylvania is one of 4 states that President Trump won by less than a percent in 2016 older Blue Collar Workers like the ones that used to work here in the Steel Industry were crucial to his victory and they could make a difference again in 2020 National Polls show that among Senior Citizens like these former steelworkers joe biden is more popular than trump i hear more and more people in the trustworthy that are just not trustworthy the state has one of the oldest populations in the country but polls have been wrong here before widebodies that are republicans. They all told me to same thing or not vote for him again. Well you know thats a very heartening but. We all thought that hillary would like you in a lot of time around the president hasnt seen the country rally behind him as usually happens during a time of crisis or attack but his base remains committed we saw it during his a visit to believe high value recently with crowds out on the highways welcoming him he has a core in that corps gone nowhere over the last few years the question is has he built on that at all is there milder roget in among groups like seniors joe voted for him in 2016 and plans to again well i think hes the strongest guy he knows how to deal and he knows he built the economy he not afraid of china leaving the state closely divided between those who think the president is best suited to lead an economic recovery and those who blame his handling of the crisis for it in the 1st place kristen salumi al jazeera bethlehem pennsylvania so lets talk to elizabeth shes an associate professor of american studies and Political Science at the George Washington university and she joins us live via skype from washington d. C. Elizabeth good job in the program so what impact are these latest primaries them going to have do you think on joe biden will have the same galvanizing effect they had for him on super tuesday. These primaries will not have that same kind of effect on the one hand hed be only candidate who is running it people are still voting for him even though Barry Sanders dropped out of the race in part because theyre trying to push. Biden moderate tendencies in a more progressive direction but biden is virtually uncontested at this point however biden has also being hanging back and has been critical recently until his speech. Condemning the Police Violence against black american intel then he had really been letting trant take the center stage with the belief that from the trunks mismanagement of the crank this one bit of that him and it has as weve seen in these recent reports where he is leading in National Polls by much of 10 percent but he will have to do a lot more to really energize a lot of the democrats going into november and if trump is losing support who are the people turning away from him with these protests and the covert 1000 pandemic and the and how can the Democrats Use these crises to galvanize support by. You know i think were seeing different people from trump on the one hand with his mismanagement of the coded endemic we saw a lot of people who had supported him. Earlier on not because they supported his kind of get tough measures or his anger but because they thought that he would benefit the economy and a lot of those people are the people who were peeling off from him during cokehead i think what were seeing now what in response to trumps mismanagement of the larger protests around the country and use yesterday of course against nonviolent protesters the way hes deploying the military in washington d. C. In other places i think were seeing a different reaction a lot of it its from what we might imagine his base to. Kind of White Working Class voters people who themselves have had their own run ins with the police or people who are fearful of kind of large expansions of state power and these are some of the people that weve seen and a lot of gays who have not supported him and thats an interesting point you make because i want to ask you in is about whats your impression about what happened in front of the white house not before last with trump walking over to cent johns church off the gas saying peaceful protest has i mean hes faced huge criticism for using religion as a Political Tool is this likely then is this what youre saying this is likely to be a turning point do you think i think it might be and i think what happened yesterday its actually. Not just you standing in front of the church with the bible as hes talking about dominating. But there is a split screen where people were seeing your speech at the same time that they are watching unarmed peaceful protestors being gassed being shot at by the police in d. C. I think that is really going to lunch and i think that was a large wake up call for people we know that trumped up and had authoritarian tendencies and that shit like tendencies and i think what people saw our Television Last night what was fearful to a lot of people who might have been on the fence for him before elizabeth just a final quick thought from you we sometimes forget dont we that it was only a few months ago that trump was impeached but he seems unwilling or perhaps even unable to unite the country with his leadership it just seems to incite more violence more anger how it has lied to them to play out politically for him in the run up to 2020. Right now given how much of the country is protesting Police Brutality where you are seeing protests. In the United States me are the large multiracial coalitions of people multigenerational coalition the look of the country what the country would be in times like this in the past is a leader who can address these problems you can address people who can address their people and try to unify the country by making larger changes trump seems at this point either unwilling or incapable of that kind of even a fine work his modus operandi is generally to anger i dont see how hes going to be able to do that in a way that will and that will lead to anything but increased violence in the short term done that will certainly harm lection elizabeth and her great to get your thoughts thank you very much for talking to large as if you know u. S. President donald trump says hes on the lookout for another state to host organists Republican National convention because of social distancing rules it was due to be held in North Carolina he tweeted that the states governor still in shelter in place mode and that the party isnt being allowed to use an arena as promised North Carolinas governor had asked for the convention to be scaled down due to a virus. Now a reporter from a newspaper in the state of arkansas says he was hurt by a small group of rioters tony holt says he was attacked in the state capital little rock by a few who quote clearly didnt want him that old as one other journalists to be careful astray as Prime Minister has called for an investigation after an Australian News crew was attacked by police during the protests in the u. S. Oh oh. And so they are a cameraman was punched in assaulted by an officer during a live broadcast Police Across america have been criticized for pepper spraying shooting out and arresting a credited members of the press. Well as ive been hearing through the program the us president has resorted to threats of force as a way to control the unrest previous president s however have sought to balance military might with words of compassion and calm as hard as a cost report some say that balance a so far been missing from this white house in the days following the assassination of civil rights leader Martin Luther king jr in 1968 riots broke out in more than 100 u. S. Cities including the Nations Capital during that time virginia and her husband ben kept open the doors of their d. C. Restaurant where dr king had frequently dined i do remember those and city of activists everybody coming in. And it was we were just that kind of place the restaurant survived 3 nights of rioting eventually armed troops helped to quell the violence across the country and president lyndon b. Johnson told an aide i dont know why were so surprised when you put your foot on a mans neck and hold him down for 300 years and then you let him up whats he going to do hes going to knock your block off. Those words were precious and how long and hard this was the image of a white Police Officer kneeling on the neck of a black man in minneapolis killing him touched off protests now gripping the nation 52 years later were having this same issue. Thats a real tragedy. Its really a tragedy history remembers president johnsons response to the 1968 riots as a show of force coupled with an articulated effort to address the countrys racial problems in contrast President Trump has said little about the underlying issue of Police Brutality toward black americans his public statements have focused on law and order labeling some protesters anarchists and terrorists when America Needs to hear in a time like this is we need to become a family act like a family Whose University equity is our straight jacket he say lets discuss the ban idea and this crackdown and the equality and inhumanity. Americas racial agony has simmered since the nations founding in slavery and boiled over many times. In 1902 rider set los angeles ablaze after a jury acquitted by Police Officers who had brutally beaten another black man rodney king ironically it would be king who would call for calm after days of unrest and we all get along and we and we get along and president george h. W. Bush toured the damage then and told the nation the federal government would continue pressing for justice this must be their were rallying cry of good and decent people for their say. For all our sakes and hope is what president barack obama gave to a community in nation in 2015 after a white supremacist killed 9 people at a black church in South Carolina obama gave the eulogy for one of the victims but it was this powerful moment that was a call for unity may a. Great. Historian say grace is a necessary element that past president s have shown in times of National Turmoil and element so far missing from President Trumping. Castro aljazeera washington now the protest movement in the u. S. Has also seen a boost of solidarity online instagram has witnessed a montage of black images under the hashtag blackout tuesday the concepts spread from the Music Industry with some Major Companies pledging to suspend business but the movement attracted some criticism with people calling for racism material to be shed instead of silence Tech Companies look like theyre fighting back against the u. S. President s executive order targeting social media giants lawsuit has now been filed against donald trump by the center for democracy and technology is being supported by Facebook Google and twitter the group says trumps executive order down on social Media Companies threatens to curtail and chill constitutionally protected speech lets bring in Avery Gardner shes a senior fellow at the competition data and power the center for democracy and technology and joins me via skype from washington d. C. A very great job in the program 1st thing lets just if you can outline for us what what trumps executive order actually does and how its being spun by the white house. So when the president s executive order is children constitutionally protected speech of every single american i want to emphasize that this is not about protecting essentially on mentally the speech rights of secular companies this is about protecting speech rights for all of us because what the president did is he said i dont like the way one company moderated my speech and im going to bring the weight of the federal government down upon it in every american i possibly can and what that does is childrens needs rights of every single state is sent here in the United States thats why weve brought our lawsuit today. And everything so just has a bit more about the lawsuit what youre hoping to achieve with it is it going to succeed the thing. Absolutely were going to succeed. Weve been a quarter contacting people speech rights for 25 years and weve done this in democratic administrations weve done it republican administrations when the federal government challenges illegally to free speech rights of Everyday Americans we view that as a call to action and we have no choice but to bring more suit to stop it so what our lawsuit will do is stop me executive order from going into effect and tell the president of the United States but he may not bully private companies and private citizens into the speech that he wants instead we live in a democracy we live in a democracy where people have a right to say what they want even if we dont like what it is they say and perhaps most fundamentally we have the right to say what we think about elections and this executive order came to pass because the president didnt like what one social Media Company appended to his tweets contained disinformation about the mechanics of elections and there is no more fundamental right and need to support our democracy and to ensure the rights that we can talk freely fairly and honestly about the way the fundamentals of democracy operate thats why we brought this case because while his action did strike at the very heart of americas core values avery just a final thought to you so we understand that you got the backing from vig tech platforms like Google Facebook and twitter so what support will they bring in because thats pretty significant doesnt it. Actually we brought this lawsuit without the support of any company we didnt confer with them before we brought this lawsuit some of them do supporters nationally but you foundation when individuals in america were bringing this on behalf of the American People and were happy to enjoy the support of some of the major Tech Companies as well but thats not why we did this we did this for the people of america and were hopeful that others will join us in vindicating their rights every gotten abuts told you thanks for talking to al jazeera and you. Tens of thousands of people took to the streets in cities across france this was the scene in paris tear gas being fired at protest as the protests began peacefully outside a Courthouse Police moved in to clear large crowds in other parts of the french capital demonstrators want to draw attention to the case of adama try henri a 24 year old black man who died in Police Custody back in 2016 the rally also drew supporters of the black lives Matter Movement in the United States.
