When one of the things we have to understand about the oil and gas markets is that theres 2 parts to it one is the financial side which is what were seeing right now in the other is the physical side the actual crude being produced sold and then and then used in the economy what we saw today what today was the subtle but for the may contract in the future and so there are long positions and short positions and everybody has to settle on this day to move into june. The thing to understand about this is that most traders of crude dont actually want to trade in the physical crude they trade in what they call the financial crude or the contract and so at the at the by the Exchange Rules when a contract settles at the end of the trading period which is it each month then you have to either buy or sell another contract to offset your contract position or you have to settle in physical crude the challenge we have is with with production still relatively high of 70 something 1000000 barrels a day actually more than that and then demand it below 70000000 barrels a day theres a huge glut of physical crude so nobody wants to settle with the physical crude on a financial contract so essentially you saw the price of crude bid down as low as negative 45. 00 per barrel today trying to get someone else to take this contract it finally settled down 35. 00 today. So where do you see it leading then with with the physical crude. Physical crude look with the pandemic to demand destruction of about 30 to 35000000 barrels a day were over produced by probably 15 or 20 and that means that we have to reduce production to meet to become come in parity with demand or the prices will continue to be very very low what the what the solution to this entire issue is increasing demand or reducing production but im foreseeing low prices for quite some time until market equilibrium returns show i mean we are seeing some countries reopen some economies reopened but its very very tentative and it can all sort of reverse back as well so that leaves us to the reduction of production as you mentioned earlier of course easier said than done because we have seen opec try to do that so what has failed in that so far or do you think that opens will take the steps necessary to try to avoid this happening again i think it has to be an International Coalition not just opec not just opec plus but all Oil Producing countries were probably down right now in the states i know the president said that we were going to reduce production by about 3 100000 barrels a day were probably down a 1000000 from our normal 10000000 barrels down to about 9 that probably needs to come down some more but all the other Oil Producing countries need to do the same until the economy recovers we have to keep in mind that a good portion of half of our crude hydrocarbon burn a day is for transportation cars buses trucks airliners all that with all that basically stopped except for trucking the demand has been to greatly reduced and so we have to bruce production in order to meet make the supply demand curves. And efile point mr cafferty usually of course when petrol prices prices plummet its good news for the consumer up to a point does that work here do you think i know that people arent going anywhere but could that could that be a sort of so far lining to all of this or do the negatives outweigh any potential positive or more on the physical side gasoline has dropped precipitously but the effect here here in houston gas prices dropped from probably close to 4. 00 down to about a dollar 75 dollar 50 in some places which is a huge reduction. S. Deputy a trade is at minus 40. 00 a barrel it is not going to be stopping then to have going to be a knock on effect on the joint deliveries as well because once youve committed youve got to take delivery of that oil because all of these countries are full up to the brim they dont have storage tankers all of the barges that they can deploy out being deployed so how is that or physically going to move and less that moves physically oil prices are going to continue to spiral downwards as some are talking specifically in which countries a acing will suffer the most from these plummeting prices.
