People in africa but officially barely 50 coronavirus deaths across the continent ahead of the w. H. O. Says those numbers should be seen as a warning. But top u. S. Official facing the coronavirus says expect 200000 deaths and millions of infections. And from profit making to Community BuildingTime Restaurants night feeding our support locals. For the top u. K. Health official has offered a stark assessment of how long it may be before life here and elsewhere goes back to what we all took for granted just a few weeks ago the u. K. Steps the chief medical officer says social distancing rules will be refuse after 3 weeks but says that it may be 6 months before life can return to normal dr jenny harris says relaxing social distancing efforts sisu could risk a dangerous 2nd pick meanwhile in the u. S. The countrys foremost Infectious Disease expert says the virus may cause as many as 200000 deaths along with millions of infections dr anthony for she offered that prognosis as the federal government considers rolling back some containment measures in europe italy. Has recorded a wreck or drop in fatalities for a 2nd day the number of new cases is also the Lowest Reported since whedons day but spain records is another 838 deaths a new high its infection rates have ever declined and aid agencies are warning of the severe risks to refugees Doctors Without Borders says people in camps on the greek island of less false its been moved immediately meanwhile syria has reported its 1st coronavirus death we start our coverage with this reports from paul brennan. A steady procession of hearses bring the latest virus victims to the temporary morgue set up in madrid largest ice rink on sunday spain recorded another daily death toll of more than 830 people such a small increase on the previous day is seen as a glimmer of hope for the situation remains critical he joins the figures yet again that it is very likely that the outbreak is evolving properly and thanks to everyones efforts having only 20 percent of our cases recovering is an encouraging statistic but it is true that the number of people going into intensive care units is doing creasing and there are many regions operating at Maximum Capacity and many other regions quickly getting closer to this limit your body is one years old on a mass. The u. K. Has recorded its 2nd successive day of more than 200 new deaths and the government has put the entire country on emergency footing unprecedented in peace time asked about the timescale for the current restrictions the answer came a could be many months so i think 3 weeks for review 2 or 3 months to see whether weve really squashed it and that about 3 to 6 months ideally and lots of uncertainty in that then to see which point we can actually get back to normal and it is plausible that it could go further than. Theres been criticism in controversy over the limited scale of the u. K. Testing regime but there is evidence the capacity is slowly increasing this drive through test center in the car park or an Animal Adventure park at chessington has opened specifically for National HealthService Workers the Royal College of nursing britains largest Nursing Union estimates that up to 20 percent of the u. K. S Health Care workforce is currently at home self isolating these Testing Centers will bring certainty allowing potentially hundreds of nurses to return to the front line of nursing at a time when the Health Care System needs the most. In france overwhelming pressure on congested hospitals in some regions has made it necessary to transfer patients to other areas these patients are being taken by train from the ground best region to new aquitaine and some french patients are being transferred to germany for treatment by combination of German Military plane and French Military helicopter. We need to free up some space when you free up a space it gives you room for a new patient and that saves a life so there wont be a gridlock on hospital resources for those of us but. Across europe coronavirus restrictions have left the streets almost empty but the grim prediction is that it will get worse before it gets any better. Aljazeera. The british Prime MinisterBoris Johnson took to twitter on sunday to thank the public for at hearing the lock down 1st the most important thing is that our policy is unchanged next to delay the spread of the disease so as to reduce the pressure only n. H. S. Reduce the demand on the n. H. S. At that critical peak moment and thats how we hope to save many thousands of lives and i want to thank everybody who has been complying with our instructions to you to stay at home and weve already seen massive falls in readily usage i think down about 95 percent plus you should down about 75 Percent People really trying to work from home if they possibly can and thats what we want stay at home protect the n. H. S. Save lives. Well lets get more now from a go she joins us live now by skype so yeah that was the british Prime Minister there in a short expert of that speech that he released at what work can you tell us about this when i was unable to give any formal conference in the trial because he has tested positive for corona virus himself and therefore is so isolating so its a chance for him to be able to relate that message of trying day as much as possible go out mix with other people but of course he came rather late in the game and this time that he was criticised will eventually what he took because he was something that was maybe sort of. Just in the right nick of time but certainly something that hes willing to sort of underline time and time again not to go out and to keep the social distance. We also had a briefing there earlier this evening so on your from the the team her handling this crisis that briefing of course overshadowed by the news that it could be some 6 months before this a return or affects a semblance of normality absolutely and its really incumbent upon everyone a days to the strict rules that the government has laid out again not to go out little as possible and only in cases of urgency as it were but this was something that has also been echoed by the scottish 1st minister Nicola Sturgeon shes also underlined that too is something that was also hinted at by senior cabinet minister michael gove earlier in the day when talking about full cost as it were he said that he didnt want to give any precise dates but he did hint that it was going to be longer but only and again only if people manage to sort of do as the government is telling them to do and in a bid to try and squeeze down the amount of infections that could take place because as ultimately the end of the day they want to avoid extreme pressure on the National Health service that is already being seen in its knee and in spain well in terms of the pressure on the Health Service is there any updates on whats happening on the front lines there sonja because the death toll in the u. K. Has in other places so going up is it not. Absolutely and theres no sign that there is going to be that there is a peak really happening any time soon could be could be weeks but what they are wanting is really to get those front line health work because the equipment that they so desperately need the personal protective equipment which theres been a last call and its been a lot of criticism as to why they dont have this they are of course fighting in the front line against this epidemic they are also concerned about the fact that testing out testing is going to be rolled out on a whole rapid level this week but still their consent has not been enough so far with you know its a 2 week containment period that this is well. They still on knowing exactly how many how well his. Status really with regards to coronavirus is theyve been you know they wouldnt have necessarily had access to a test and they would have to self isolate that for taking them out of the Health System putting more pressure on the so Health System itself also if they know that their status also gives an idea as to what immunity they have because they conduct will send an Antibody Test and if they do have immunity to it so that they can go back into the Health System which in that case getting on with their jobs as well and this also comes off the back of need is that there was one front line help was already died who was already volunteering in a unit in england one of the 1st casualties of this on the front line Health Service ok so your guy you go in london thank you. Nigerian president s mamadou bihari has announced a locked arent in lagos summer capsule a budget for 14 days in an attempt to curb the spread of the virus nigeria has 97. 00 confirmed infections most of which have been in the countrys 2 main cities well ahead of the world health and directing this is. All movements. In the city initiated here it over 14 days with effect from 11 pm on monday society is much too empty to n. T. This is a distraction. Ringback to ogun state due to its growth presume that it is legacy in the high traffic between the 2 states or citizens. Is still in their homes. Drove to. Rome as it should be postponed. Well the head of the World Health Organization has noted that the number of coronavirus cases in africa remains relatively low but experts are concerned that the virus could gain ground quickly and have devastating consequences as we noted a moment ago nigeria is the latest african country to put measures in place in a bid to prevent an outbreak decades of mismanagement and sanctions have left sudan with a crumbling Health Infrastructure there are currently an offensive this is all intensive care beds for one percent of the countrys 40000000 people and some bubbly starters have joined thousands of nurses on strike over a lack of protective equipment the country has 3 confirmed coronavirus cases so far with one death and will go on the lot so in for 3 weeks on monday lets get more now from dr Annie Sparrow shes an associate professor of Global Health at the high can school of medicine at mount sinai and joins us now by skype could have you with us on the news are there are clearly some challenges as weve just outlined that are to spare but only 49. 00 fatalities some would say this is encouraging is that not what syrians into these numbers. Is simply doing. There is that we know and that had news in the country that conditions are very limited in the government so we can only parent you know. That is in no way representative babs on what is really going on and and secondly in a condition that in horrible for the fans prettiness means that we have africa has mostly land reasons for the military this means there are massive refugee camps or a huge sprawling slum there as they have been has ation their existing lack of infrastructure and the lack of sense for to have electricity have roads or the 10s of existing accept and Public Health act like until its been sampled and then you have as you pointed out very few hospitals there too as he placed little unventilated and whats worse perhaps is that you know in here in the u. K. And we consider that a need that we we have probably 3 to the dish and per 1000. 00 population and thats pretty normal because the you can hear 3. 00 to 4000. 00 but in africa across the board as about theres not even one could 10000 population and there isnt really an existing convention control measures that we just take for granted little in the p. P. C. So people becomes an completely inadequate measure when we think it has no theres no ability to have this and that means no Running Water and its very difficult why before we come to the question of ventilators have events like when you dont have electricity and then there are this is a country where we have these straight endemic in tb an h. N. D. And malaria and money trishna and all of those we can even system and we know this is disease which. Means its best say so and were looking at a country which is very vulnerable on many many different levels. And and then of course you know we man had 49. 00 s. At the moment but we are heading towards winter in assam has been and so it hurts just as here during in the Northern Hemisphere we can expect to see a drop off in new cases because were always even seasonal with grounds around when the viruses including you my new and grown abayas but when it is you know born it hasnt even quite begun in the. Sun not to have occurred is the quick and not means as they hadnt winter we expect to see an increase in in and they try to grow out of us and the rehab that you know influenza and that we normally see in winter which is going to make it much harder even for existing how cameras are good to discern between growing a virus and just as id and malaria i mean how do you tell the difference when you come in with the rare and i had it in my hand those are the signals from crawling with symptoms for malaria well given these very real challenges youre outlining what do you think needs to happen i mean whats the best way to tackle this. Well 1st of all we had to be pragmatic so certainly we could look at ways to reduce the whole ability of africans and Health Care Workers and the doctors and nurses as vulnerable because you know one of the best ways we know at the moment is to. Give a lie that seems like theres b. C. G. Vaccine nicety even seen its very old incredibly safe and we know that it has these and takes way way beyond which help reduces rates of the disease and thats evident as the conduit in time to me will be easy and thats nice and something we know how to do and exactly what were trying to do a in so many ways if we can reduce the severity of the things we dont need to you know we wont be getting to the bed light or the new state which we so just in went from boy did have a good rest. And there is no waiting to build that hari so its yes we must increase the diagnostic capacity and we must increase and we must do everything we can to try and scare up the p. P. That is make the Health Care Workers as an honorable but we also must actually look at these nontraditional ways of protecting Health Care Workers and i say that as an intense business we are all in the clinical frontlines yet when we were we need to find ways to mitigate is a very human things in such a deeply vulnerable continent and so many countries and ok thoughts are any spyro im afraid but thank you so much for coming on the news are speaking to us here on aljazeera thank you. Still to come on the aljazeera news hour from the catwalk to the emergency room high end Fashion Designers snowmaking must see that sheets. And its the Zombie Apocalypse the south korean drama thats critical hits during meet coronavirus love that. There are some new predictions coming out of the United States for the countrys top and factious diseases experts there says cases could reach into the millions so its around safire she says the prediction is a moving target sped up to 200000 americans could die from the virus in the hardest hit city of new york officials warn crucial medical supplies could run its next week the u. S. Has the greatest number of confirmed cases worldwide it surpassing china and italy looking at what were seeing now you know i would say between 10200000 cases but i dont want to be held to that because its deaths i mean were going to have millions of cases but i just dont think that we really need to make a projection when its such a moving target or a brand all strain says no live from the sunshine this fine sky rob quite a stark claim there from dr fight she how does that message being received in the u. S. Well the message that is coming out of. Experts like dr fauji is its very sobering and americans are listening to it for the most part with you know a very serious attitude there have been other warnings today the governors of several states appearing on television to talk about the situation in the places where they are in sharjah one of them Governor Andrew Cuomo of new york said that there is no way looking at the numbers of people who are infected hospitalized at the moment that we will not see thousands of deaths in the state of new york governor John Bell Edwards of louisiana where you orleans is a serious hot spot predicted that the hospitals may run out of beds and ventilators in new orleans next week governor j. B. Pritzker of illinois chicago another part it city where the curve is moving in the upward direction city pleading for test kits saying that the federal government has simply not provided the number of test kits that are needed we also had the mission of michigan governor gretchen whitmer. Later on this year there is supposed to be a big auto show and troy this is a major event in that city of course its been canceled and now the Big Convention center where the Detroit Auto Show is normally you know is being turned into a Field Hospital we mentioned the President Trumps the briefing from the white house is coming up probably in about 15 or 20 minutes or so President Trump has been a twitter today he boasted about the ratings that is daily briefings. Got and he compared them favorably to several Popular AmericanTelevision Dramas and reality shows of course President Trump formally was the star of his own reality show its difficult to see really in the most charitable interpretation of his tweet that he is not pleased by the fact that hes getting all of this attention and that millions of people who are watching him on television every day during his briefings by contrast he is likely opponent in the november election and certainly we dont know exactly what how that election is going to be conducted but the former Vice President joe biden said that trump has raised expectations on reasonably and that the worst thing that a leader could do would be to give people false hope simply call for the unvarnished truth saying that americans would respond on well if theyre dealt with its straightforwardly and honestly. We will of course keep an eye on that White House Briefing and come back to you for more after that but for now i. Lebanon could face a critical shortage of medical supplies if the corona Virus Outbreak there is not contained some businesses are shifting away from their usual production lines and stepping in to help hospitals and meets their new demands real moments as more. Work has come to a halt for many in beirut but for Fashion Designer tony ward who specializes in gowns business is slowly picking up in a different way i dont know. I mean. We 1st made these masks for our own employees and they can be worn in a very simple why and also washed his garment factory shifting from its usual production lines to helping local hospitals by making mosques body suits and bed sheets. They put me in contact with the director of a fake hariri hospital and he told me that they have a big shortage of bed sheets because they are preparing a new department we decided to buy fabric involve our staff and Work Together to make big. As lebanons doctors and nurses work on the front lines to contain covert 19 private and Public Hospitals are feeling the strain theres not enough money and medical supplies items that are normally imported its prompted other businesses like this plus that usually makes dental floss and diapers to step into design ventilators. Maybe after this outbreak we will learn a big lesson or lebanese can have an impact on the future percent and reality not always depend on whats coming from the outside and asked for help. Lebanon is already facing an economic and financial crisis according to Human Rights Watch the government has not given any money this year to the publicly funded refeed curry hospital in beirut where most cases are being treated and it only gave 40 percent of its jews last year while infections increase those running businesses like this hope their input can help prepare lebanon for whats may come mohamed al jazeera. Plenty more still to come on aljazeera the seas are. Or fall in love of the it will be. The. Love in the time of corona virus long term partners that face life on their own. Hello and welcome back lets take a look at weather conditions across europe 1st of all weve got an area of High Pressure in the atlantic is pushing the winds in from the north and northeast so colder direction so this frontal system ours the boundary between the warmer air in the south and the colder and the north so we look at the forecast a lot of fine weather across northern parts of europe but it is turning colder all the while just 5 as a maximum in vienna some snow on the northern side of the alps. There for rome and for athens up woman is going to take a little while to sink away towards the south but you notice for sarajevo a mix of just 3 degrees on shoes day bigots or to wednesday rome i think will have a high of 11 degrees wellstone choose a worth noting weve got rain across eastern parts of spain which will turn quite rightly to snow during the course of the day and through into wednesday on the other side of the Mediterranean Sea weve got to stir conditions through the gulf of sirte and windy weather here trippy looking a high of just 16 degrees scattered showers around the gulf of guinea region but no more than youd expect at this time of year there downpour possible in abidjan in the ivory coast and then across more southern portions of the continent some heavy rain across parts of southern go through into maybe some rain in places across parts of south africa but largely drying cape town a high here of 20 to. Join the colobus conversation. Spend their brains maybe have a different view this is a dialogue in cambodia are in fact telling theyre here we dont know how much theyre getting paid for it its hard to track its hard to treat everyone has a voice. Right here. We need to step away from gaming people are not necessarily this is a journey of progress not perfection on aljazeera. Overthrown and exiled point again same rule. Let me tell you an intimate film about the struggle of the elected leader of madagascar to return to his country and reinstate his presidency you know is that the truth which pushed by and we need a moment again if you think change is the all you know the way you treat it change the return of a president on aljazeera. The end. Where a crowd of the top stories here on out to see are our top few k. Health officials want maybe 6 months before coronavirus measures can be safely relaxed that chief medical officer told reporters that dropping that social distancing efforts to suit could risk a dangerous 2nd week. Americas foremost Infectious Disease expert says the virus make holes as many as 200000 deaths among the millions of infections in the modern federal government is considering going back some containment measures. In countries across asia and i calls in their borders in an effort to combat a surge of corona virus infections in the region the move comes as japan reports its highest daily rates of new cases. But in latin america countries have been ramping up their containment measures some more drastically than others and there is extended its nationwide curfew into the least the middle of next month venezuelas Opposition Leader is calling for more humanitarian aid to be allowed into the country but the outbreak could be particularly devastating and cases have been rising in mexico president Manuel Lopez Obrador is recommending that people stay home but the call is not mandatory all that school life and its manual repeller he joins us in mexico city manny whats the situation like for countries in Central America specifically honduras which is just doubled up on limits in peoples would bill a city. Certainly so and honduras did announce an extension to this curfew that was already in place this curfew is going to last until sometime in mid april this of course means that the freedom of mobility will be restricted during the day this means that freedom of mobility will be almost completely restricted at night anyone who breaks this curfew faces fines faces a restaurant wonderous is already reported some 110 confirmed cases of coded 19 as well as 3 deaths as of sunday now there is a larger concern here when it comes to countries in latin america and Central America as you mentioned specifically in honduras and this has to do with the countries prepared this and the amount of money that the nation spends on its Public Health care sector which is less than almost any other country in the region 100. 00 is one of the if not the most poorly equipped country to handle a contagion a Global Pandemic of this scale now there are Different Things a variety of different policies that were seeing take place across the region as you mentioned hala some more drastic than others like the case of honduras extending the National Curfew we could look to all solved or almost many people see it as a model for how we a pandemic should be handled as one of the 1st countries to announce a nationwide quarantine and then you have a the other extreme to that which is countries like mexico which have taken a more relaxed approach countries like nicaragua which you could still see soccer games being played outdoors the policy there is nothing short of of leaders burying their heads in the sand while you are in mexico city. I mean they have been criticised for their somewhat relaxed thats a change containment measure as anything change there its only that. That criticism contained continues hollow the president of mexico has been contradictory in his statements when it comes to corona virus and it was only until recently this past friday when mexicos Deputy Health minister asked people to stay in their homes nationwide calling for of for a voluntary a quarantine this is not mandatory and this is one of the criticisms that continues to come up unlike other countries in the region mexico continues to be reluctant when it comes to implementing the more drastic measures such as shutting down airports this is not taking place in mexico even if im in my home right now but if i were to look out the window there are people outside jogging exercising there are still restaurants that are open any initiatives for self quarantine and social isolation have been initiatives from private citizens and from businesses now mexico says that this policy is based in Scientific Evidence but its very clear that it that the economy is playing a huge role given that the mexican peso is among the most devalued currencies in the world at the moment. Im out on a pile of that live from mexico and i thank you. Well the corona virus has proven particularly dangerous for the elderly and for people with Underlying Health conditions its a percentage of those whove died from the on this in the us for 65 and older and the calico reports now on what Health Authorities on the public in saying to help their most vulnerable citizens who fall in law it will be. The at a nursing home in alabama john kline serenades his wife through a window social distancing join the coronavirus pandemic is now vital for those at risk but when youve been married for 45 years contact is equally important could you read more of. Bob shallow id like many is separated from his wife a necessary but difficult time for elderly couples makes me feel bad because i. Want her down with me. I know she cant the reality for seniors is frightening health Officials Say older adults are twice as likely to contract a serious illness from the virus than anyone else those that live in Long Term Care facilities are among the most vulnerable. For seniors living outside the Health Care System tasks as simple as buying food is risky many supermarkets are now operating what they call senior hours potentially lowering the health risks for those 60 and over we try and have the store spouse before they come in they are the target of this virus and so were trying to work for strong as a peer facilities like drive through test sites is slowly being set up but with an aging population the us faces worrying times as figures tick higher here in florida a quarter of the population is 60 or older making this state particularly vulnerable best testing is sporadic at worst nonexistent Health Care Providers say they want to test more but dont have the equipment so far there have been suspected or confirmed corona cases in 1900 elder care facilities a number that may get higher here waiting for you or close to the window while the authorities struggle others are doing what they can to support the Senior Community i did not expect and theyre just people way they in there is finally home find that you just dance like this in a circus saving for the elderly fear and isolation runs deep reaching out supporting and helping those most vulnerable to the pandemic has never been more important and a gallacher of his era miami florida. Well really a 1000000000 people around the world and i wonder some form of government restriction for people with autism self isolation and social distancing has its own particular challenges they have a wide range of learning behavioral and communications difficulties Priyanka Gupta has more. For bartik work here in poland its not just about Financial Security but also his relationships with friends he has a spur to syndrome one of the conditions of whats known as the Autism Spectrum Disorder the new coronavirus pandemic and government Restrictions Mean hes not stuck at home away from friends and people he depends on hes struggling to cope with the fundamental changes to his life and actually about losing his job i says is the late my. Current and it effects my life in many places ive seen most about my own. But. Which happened to me i know in the many questions which are not on hi everyone how well doing a tap from the u. K. Is autistic and to offer 3 children are on the autism spectrum shes using video blogs and Live Streaming to help herself and other families cope with self isolation. My usual life has been changed and obviously as a parent to children im expected to be in a position where im staying and structure in their lives than what im still autistic so i have found that my anxiety levels been high and i think the best ways to fight with that moment ought to try and find some kind of routine or schedule within the life that were now living so that you know what to expect from day. For those who depend on support from doctors therapists and specialists teachers the closure of schools and lock downs of cities and towns is particularly destructive. Panic buying supermarkets has also affected those with specific food needs a distress around them can affect some of them deeply a lot of autistic people work on certainties. Things of famines that theres a rumor that people think of the people pathetic but we are quite a lot i think we read a room we saw it was all the remember so a lot of panic that we found within the community is caused by people around us panicking experts say while most of the world is hunkering down the key for families with autistic children is to find ways to cope. And so on families telling us that childrens react responses have been quite emotional and old higher levels of sensory seeking behavior that theyre seeing as well and all all response to that has been to try to create a level of routine as governments around the world take unprecedented measures to protect Peoples Health and safety many are concerned about how a longer lock down will affect the lives of some of the most vulnerable the others here. Are the coronavirus pandemic has had Global Airlines particularly hard with several 2nd government bailouts but Qatar Airways group c. E. O. Are quarrel bucker believes the Airline Industry will bounce back. It has been difficult but we are persevering we have our passengers that are all over the place where we have to take them safely back home we have received a lot of requests from embassies and governments around the world to help citizens to be taken back to their homes and to their loved ones and Qatar Airways is just serving the the World Community if airports around the world start closing down and airspace are being blocked it is of course natural that got there it was with a list completely stuff flying but for the time being we have a Skeleton Service that is flying around and this for the foreseeable future will continue airlines and the evolution industry plays such an Important Role in our lives these days that this industry will rebound like it did previously of course this time it is very serious much more serious than 911 we havent have faced such a situation in the last 100 years so now we have to wait and see but at the end it will be survival of the fittest and we want the terrorists to be one of those survival Success Stories have a lets step back from the coronavirus for just a moment and update you on some of the days other news these really Prime MinisterBinyamin Netanyahu and his main rival benny gantz say theyve made significant progress towards forming an emergency unity government bring you more on that story in just a 2nd half an hour lets take you live to the white house where president obama trump is giving his daily News Conference on the coronavirus pandemic lets listen in. Everybody being here. In the rose garden tremendous distance between jurors social distancing you practice it very well we appreciate it its great. I want to start today by highlighting several critical developments on both the testing and treatment that will help us win our war against the corona virus on friday the f. D. A. Authorized a new test of ella by abbott labs that delivers lightning fast results in as little as 5 minutes thats a whole new ballgame. I want to thank abbott labs for the incredible work theyve done theyve been working around the clock normally this approval process from the f. D. A. Would take 10 months and even longer but we did it in 4 weeks abbott has stated that they will begin deliberating 50000. 00 tests each day starting this week and as you know even before this development weve been doing more test test than any other country anywhere in the world its one of the reasons that we have more cases than other countries because weve been testing its also one of the reasons that were just about the lowest in terms of mortality rate because weve been doing more testing so we have bigger numbers to look at. I want to also thank general seminar and of the army corps of engineers and. General paul of the czech whos here with us is going to say a few words in a little while what the army corps of engineers did along with thema in new york was incredible they built 2900 beds worth of hospital an incredible hospital in the Javits Center which i know well and i just want to say that was unreal they did it in less than 4 days. People have never seen anything like that and its an incredible complex. Top of the line hospital they did it so quickly everyones trying to figure out how they did it including me and i was a good builder but they did it very quickly mike so were very very happy so what i think army corps of engineers fema the incredible job they have done now theyre moving to other locations throughout the country where they already have people building hospitals who are doing them in louisiana new jersey many many other places but these are incredible men and women and they worked around the clock and. The people of new york are very happy Governor Cuomo expressed his thanks which we appreciate but these are. I mean this nobody could have done a job like that most people have never seen anything like it the deployment of Rapid Testing will vastly accelerate our ability to monitor track contain and ultimately defeat the virus we will defeat the virus it was also allow us to test doctors nurses and other Health Care Workers immediately and enable us to act quickly and aggressively to shut down the spread of the virus so important in critical facilities like hospitals and Nursing Homes and we will ensure that we can give cities and states the best information to guide local Decision Makers and making. I would want to point out that the hydroxy florek wind is being administered to 1100 patients people in new york along with the z. Pack which is as if through my son and. Its very early yet its only started 2 days ago but we will see what happens i want to thank steven hahn who lives a great doctor. Left one of the best jobs in our country running an incredible hospital in texas and hes the head of the f. D. A. And steven got approval for that so fast lets see how it works it may it may not but we may have some incredible results were going to know soon so its tested its being tested on 1100 people in new york the f. D. A. Is also allowing the emergency use of a blood related therapy called convalescent plasma as an experimental treatment for seriously ill patients this treatment involves taking blood plasma from patients who have already recovered from the virus so their recovered their strong something was good in them that worked and so we take the plasma from those people that have recovered so well meaning their plaza is rich in antibodies against the virus and transfusing it into 6 patients 6 patients very very very powerfully so sick patients will. Be transfused with the the blood taken to boost their immune system well see what happens and were having some early results that are good but we will see and thats going i think very rapidly again now weve got approvals and really very quick time were also looking at an approval for the sterilization of masks i kept saying to myself id see some of the masks are very complex were delivering millions by the way millions but i kept saying why arent they able to use that mask a 2nd 3rd 4th time and. Mike de wine the great governor of ohio called me they have a company that is in the final process of getting approval for the sterilization of masks and in some cases depending on the mask some of these massive very very strong very powerful very strong material theyre able to sterilize the mask up to 20 times so that its i guess like getting 20 masks and so we worked on that as soon as i heard from mike today i got involved in the f. D. A. Is now involved and were trying to get a fast approval for the sterilization of masks that would be a tremendous difference would be really helpful. Well much of the research has to be done we have a lot of research left to do obviously this treatment on plaza has shown promising results in other countries work in communication with other countries and very Strong Communications and theyre very reliant on us in just about all cases we have the greatest people in the world theyre very very anxious to find out how were doing on our. Different things whether its a cure or it whether its. Really anything having to do with getting people better. We have. Some interesting things will be announced i think over the next few weeks but well see what happens theyre being tested right now the vaccines are moving along very rapidly the mechs vaccines are. An answer but id like to see if we could do something therapeutically so that we can take care of the people that already sick and were working on that at a level that people would be amaze cizik incredible people they dont stop this method also has been used for more than a century and thats the blood related therapy in more than a century to fight off Infectious Diseases so its not unusual our level of. Complexity has changed but its a concept thats been used for a long time including during the spanish flu epidemic and that was really a pandemic of proportions like frankly nobody seen until what were facing now that was in 1918 you know what the result of that was probably from 752100 1000000 people were killed. And also other viruses like the one in this out outbreak this is a very tough one this is a tough one because its spread so quickly like nothing weve seen it spread so easily so quickly were unleashing every tool in our nations best arsenal economic metal metal if you look medical and scientific military Homeland Security is working very very hard with all of them in order to vanquish the virus as you know every level of government state local and federal is working nonstop to obtain more personal protective equipment for frontline workers were. Delivering vast orders of this material im going to ask a couple of the people here to join me that both make it into illiterate joining us today are the leaders of americas largest distributors of pharmaceuticals and medical equipment including Mckesson Cardinal health Henry Schein Owens in minor medline fed ex and u. P. S. We just concluded a very productive meeting about ways to keep our supply chains and Delivery Systems moving at top speed and maybe id like to just ask for a couple of minutes for mike coffman to come up and maybe ed a 2nd mike is with cardinal and ed is owen and minor. But i and i appreciate and if anybody else has anything please come up but if you could come up mike for a 2nd and ed for a 2nd just you could maybe say what you told me before when we had the meeting thank you. Thank you mr president thanks for your leadership on this because of that leadership we have really seen the Government Agencies working with industry like no time before we see the h. H. S. Fema the c. D. C. Work incredibly effectively with all of the distributors and all of this tributaries working together for the good of the people and all of us have been so focused on making sure that we take care of our customers because we our customers are the ones that are taking care of the patients every day and we need to do everything we can to make things good for them and so its been great to see how well all these Government Agencies have been coordinating together with us thank you thank you. Thank you mr president let me 1st start by thanking administration for all the support you provided to the industry and one of things we did we did hear the challenge and starting in january weve ramped up our production in the americas including our facility in North Carolina where were now manufacturing an additional 40. 00 to 50000000. 00 masks per month to get into the u. S. Health care system and we talk a lot of dot this in the premium in one of the issues were struggling with is the demand increase you know used an anecdotal example of one hospital in new york that traditionally uses roughly 1220000 masks a week are now using 22300000 mass a week so you multiply that times the entire poppy entire u. S. Let alone the same demand outside of the u. S. Thats part of the issue are running into is even with a significant ramp up in supply you know theres still that demand that is that is much greater than that supply and i think you. And i bring that up because when we just gust. Back in a room we were in a Conference Room very nice one actually its called the cabinet room. That statement was made that theyve been delivering for years 10 to 20000 masks ok its a New York Hospital very its packed all the time how do you go from 10 to 20 to 300010 to 20000 masks 2300000 even though this is different somethings going on and you ought to look into it as reporters where the masculine are they going out the back door how do you go from 1000230000 extension 0. And we have that in a lot of different places so somebody should probably look into that because i just dont see from a practical standpoint how thats possible to go from that to that and we have that happening in numerous places and not to that extent that was the highest number ever heard thats the highest number youve seen i would imagine right but disband makes them and delivers them to a lot of hospitals he knows the system better than anybody and i think you were more surprised that i was when you saw that number so thank you very much i hope i didnt get any of your clients in trouble. Put it could be that they are in trouble so they have to look at that in new york femurs work in with these companies to launch project air bridge to expedite the movement of critical supplies from other countries to the United States the 1st flight arrived at j. F. K. Airport new york this morning filled with 80 tons of personal protective equipment including 130000 95 respirators those are the ones that we were talking about before 1800000 facemasks and 10300000 loves and many other things millions and millions of different items fema has scheduled 19 additional flights and is adding more daily we hope to have about 50 flights were going to have i think including the one that came in today were up to 51 flights with these massive planes from the Different Companies that was so nice to be here today would you like to Say Something and to have please come up thank you. Thank you mr president for the incredible leadership i will share with you that u. P. S. Is really proud to be part of this effort Vice President pence and i had the opportunity to speak before and the way were going to win this war is with great logistics and u. P. S. Is going to be part of that effort we have a Big Brown Army 495000 u. P. S. Ears across the country that are ready to deliver were bringing in the supplies from anywhere around the world as fast as we can so that they can serve the communities that need them most were proud to be partnering with the states as well because we know that in partnership with those states we can deliver what is needed everywhere so thank you mr president. Please thank you. Thank you mr president i would certainly like to echo my colleagues comments that the collaboration amongst many of the Government Agencies and the private market and the distributors represented here today has been incredible has been increasing in ramping up over the past weeks todays 1st delivery of Operation Air bridge i think is the 1st evidence that its working the 51 flights you reference were excited about we look to build upon that so i would echo my thanks for your leadership and certainly to the staffs. For the terrific partnership and the commitment to protect the people we think about most often which are the people on the front lines providing care and maybe just a quick word of thanks on behalf of all the c. E. O. s here to our teams that continue to show up in warehouses across the country in pharmacies across the country and do their jobs to keep the supply chain going the supply chain is working its resilient supply is a challenge were tackling that thank you. Thank you thank you mr president and thanks to. An h. H. S. I think great leadership and its really working well the demand has skyrocketed and were doing a lot of things to bring in more mass more other protective apparel we are involved in re processing mask and weve already started as about 100000 mask per day and we hope to expand from there are so were quite optimistic about it thank you. Anybody if you want yes please. We have no thank you. Thank you thank you mr president we appreciate the opportunity to work with your administration on a lot of collaborative fronts number one weve all talked about p. E. Products thats critical and its not just the hospitals thats a must but its really to all Health Care Providers out there working on the front line so our commitment is there to get it to the hotspots and gets the care providers that are taking care of those patients is absolutely key 2nd we talk in there about buying in america and getting resources back here and manufacturing in america that is critical a lesson to be learned from where we are and lastly
