I think hes done a very good job except in one area mariya that i really feel that he fell down on is that he relied upon the c. D. C. To do all the testing and really the strength of the American Health care system is in the hands of private. Organizations and once saw last week that the testing was approved by have today and turned over to private labs we can catch up on testing and that way we can map and quite frankly understand the progression of the disease in america much better. So. You know i was just my my answer today is i think. I mean i agree with you about the testing but i feel like his response has been absolutely opposite of what you would want your d leader to how you would want your leader to respond and how change the church ejector of whats going on in our country in the number of cases during 20 years ago during george w. Promoting what should be right he was still traveling during all this time claiming its not as big of a problem these are huge missteps why dont you think i just want to jump in here because i think we could frame this as this president because he is so cognizant whether it was the crowd size of the inauguration whether its the crowd size at his rallies you know perception hes a marketing guy all of this matters and he knows what he says is going to rattle the markets and investors and create jitter so the criticism here has been that hes treating this like a political crisis versus versus a Public Health crisis and i think thats what has sort of heightened in the United States. You know dr im just curious how you know how do you know that donald trump didnt understand the situation and doesnt really im trying to figure out how people know that as i just in fact was with the president we were going to go in mar a lago we had quite a brief scene and i just kind of intrigued how Everybody Knows what he does know or doesnt know theyre telling us right there to tell us about 3 thing did you were you were you convinced that the president understood a pandemic what might happen that he really got all the facts together because sometimes he says things like my hunch is that hes talking about the corona virus so im wondering whether maybe his messaging and what he understands maybe theyre not those 2 things are going together david i think what the limit is that hes trying to make sure that the public and thats why all the professionals are at the microphone but he also feels he has a role to encourage people and he also has been i think deeply concerned which i think the big issue is is the damage its going to be done to the economy and people are going to be her tremendously by that and i think hes been trying to balance both hes been trying to balance both but at the same time. You know i think the criticism has been is that the president is always a little bit narcissistic in the midst of all of this and thats what people at this time are looking for him to go beyond and i use one of his tweets that just came out about an hour ago as kind of an example this this opportunity to unite where the president reads a raise just had a very good teleconference with nations governors went very well but then he goes on to single out someone he has political differences with and that is Governor Cuomo of new york he says cuomo of new york has to quote do more so thats not a unifying message and that sort of where people feel that despite political differences if you were governor did you hear what Governor Cuomo said you can list more than well i disagree dispute the both of them maybe gauging and partisan politics i. I just tell you as a reporter what i hear on the street is the desire of from ordinary americans for their politicians to do just the opposite im sure there are probably lots of politicians that are engaging in partisan politics but i think that when it comes to leadership in crisis what americans are looking for right now just talking to the Grassroots Level which im very comfortable within interior is the fact that thats what theyre looking for and theyre feeling a little bit absent and thats whats increasing anxiety i really want to bring it back to what can i bring it back to a health care Public Health perspective this is not about the economy right now this is ravaging other countries we need a Public Health response not a political response david you asked read all of his tweets everything that is being written im going to just go back and say one thing i do agree with it was good jane youre trying to get credit for closing at least taking that step to close the borders although it wasnt that great is still american citizens were allowed to come back from china but with that being said read all the tweets i dont know where his conversation with you was but the fact that he was still flying a week ago tomorrow lago shows that he does not understand the threat of this virus to our nation to the world we have we have 2 months to learn from china look at other countries we had time to not reject the World Health Organization test kits this is not a place where american individualism should come out this is a place where we need to come together as a country need our leader to still reassure. Right now we dont believe theres a virus you just Senate Democrats you can win come november how is this even possible when so many lives are at stake while i think because this is a sharply divided country and people have really moved to the furthest corners in terms of their partisanship its not just our political leaders its ordinary americans and so i think thats what youre seeing there but its interesting this is really affected donald trump sort of. Make America Great again movement theres even a fracture within the movement now some people who are really getting nervous and feeling they need a stronger message unquote a virus and then youre hearing the sentiments of his son theyre the sort of reflects the other side and i think this is the challenge and you know as a mom im just going to say that is its really important for us all to act like grown ups and you know thats sort of the one thing that i find whatever out in the street whether im at the white house is its were at that point now where its kind of time to for the grown up in the room to go ok enough is that looking at it we have days where you were the professionals that i work at work with i do not hear this type of rhetoric i think theyre focused on what is the best thing to do in their clinics what patients they can really safely care for and i dont think theyre really worried or wondering what washington is doing on the other other hand i really do believe that how people perceive the impact of this both economically and health will really affect the election in the fall there is no question about that whatsoever.
