Were excluded. And the window to contain the coronavirus is narrowing a warning from the w. H. O. As an outbreak in northern italy gets worse. Welcome to the new agreement that supposed to usher in peace in afghanistan has come into effect the taliban and the u. S. Will begin what theyre calling a reduction of violence if the 7 day deal is a success both sides will sign an accord at the end of the month paving the way for talks between the taliban and other afghan groups the u. S. Says it wants to pull its troops out of afghanistan. Now americas longest war began in 2001 the u. S. Presence in afghanistan came a month after the 911. 00 attacks it launched air strikes and a Ground Invasion to remove the taliban from power more than 12000 american soldiers are still in the country thousands more from nato allies and partners countries are also there some 2400 american troops have been killed since the operation began and the u. S. Is estimated to spend more than one trillion dollars in its mission. Roslyn jordan was in jordan joins me now for the very latest coming out of washington roslyn that the real issue here is whether or not this deal will work dependent on what is described as the reduction in violence and how that is actually gauged. Also held the big question is what is that standard of measurement we dont know the pentagon wont say the state department wont say afghan officials wont say what the standard is for a reduction in violence that basically leaves it open to any of the parties involved in this stoppage as it were the United States the taliban or the Afghan Military to say that someone isnt complying with the terms of this 7 day pause and so there should be no signing of an agreement and doha come february 29th its a real question because this is perhaps the 1st real test of trust between the parties in this case the u. S. And the taliban with out that trust it is of fair to say that trying to get the taliban to then sit down with representatives of the Afghan Government or of the Afghan People as they would prefer its going to be very difficult to have those discussions actually take place so that an eventual peace accord can be reached within the afghan body politic and of course in the future in the present roles what happens if there is an unexpected violent attack of some sort a whether the taliban or not take responsibility for it in the country these are all sort of moving parts is hypothetical at the moment al qaeda still operates in the country it is dare i say it i dont want to use the phrase its a minefield isnt it of problems within the next 7 days. Theres so many if then scenarios that are surrounding this situation but i think its reasonable to assume that given that the agreement which the taliban and the United States reached is that this covers their own behaviors and not the behaviors of other parties apart from the afghan army its pretty fair to assume that if they were able to conclusively determine for example that al qaeda was responsible for a roadside attack well that would not necessarily do rael this process but if they found that there was for example a tal a ban roadside bomb aimed at u. S. Forces or aimed at Afghan Forces and they were able to determine that pretty quickly that might be the sort of thing that could do rail this process so outside actors 3rd parties organizations that are not a part of this years long negotiation between the 2 sides probably not enough to turn things over but certainly it would create a long term problem which is what happens once there is a peace deal between the u. S. And the taliban and the u. S. President donald trump wants to drastically cut the number of u. S. Troops in country then you might see a discussion about whether or not too few u. S. Troops means a much more dangerous situation not just for the Afghan Government before the Afghan People well for that update thank you rosalind also in jordan a cause bunton washington thats kosovo also to shoot jonah was a distinguished fellow at the south asia center at the Atlantic Council joins me also from washington d. C. Good to have you with us on the program so in terms of what youve fallen in terms of this agreement between the taliban and the u. S. And youll rippin ian whats the likelihood of success. Well it depends on how you define success and i think for president. Its the fulfillment of a Campaign Promise which was that he would exit from the u. S. Is longest war and hes now in an Election Year he wants to be reelected he wants to check off this point and say i promised it and ive done it this is also a danger as his rosalind mentioned earlier that if something goes wrong that he might actually send out a tweet and say were out of here tomorrow and that would leave the afghans bickering and squabbling amongst themselves thats a danger you have a danger of course is pakistan which is help in getting these negotiations together if pakistan begins to play a much more active role in favoring one or the other that might complicate matters i think fighting for the peace now is going to be the big challenge but its also an opportunity well thats the broad sweep of your opinion across the whole whole scenario lets focus it down then to this next 7 days and in terms of whether you think this agreement weve seen lots of sort of agreements and memorandum of understanding over the many years i mean whats your take on this particular 7 days and how vital important or even. Unstable is it in terms of trying to make sure this next 7 days goes off without incident. Well of course its impossible to predict anything that could happen but its one thing is clear that both sides the United States as well as the taliban are now tired of this war saroj at the end of carneys piece in the New York Times in which he talks about. The yearning for peace is a very good indication of that and that would not have appeared if they hadnt already talked about all the possible things that could derail this process over the next 7 days this is going to be a testing period but i think the important things are going to happen after the 29th of february when the decisions will have the made as to who will be speaking for the Afghan Government who will speak for the other sections of Afghan Society whether the opposition parties will be involved and whether the taliban will be the sole party on the other side this is really going to be a test of the process and it may also test the ability of the United States to remain engaged in the region we often hear the phrase that the taliban will not speak to the Afghan Government what is it going to take for those 2 sides just those 2 factions to actually sit down and be at the same table in your opinion. In my view i think getting more than the Afghan Government involved is essential because the Afghan Government has after 5 months of bickering finally agreed that the elections are over and president rouhani has been reelected but hes still meeting with protests and opposition from dr Abdullah Abdullah and other groups so its critical that some kind of a National Power is available to talk with the taliban to talk as a group and to decide what to do and this is where i go back to my earlier comment it will be very critical for countries in the region iran pakistan and others to assist the afghans in making sure that there is no outside interference of abundance thanks so much for joining us from washington d. C. So u. S. Officials have now told democratic president ial hopeful Bernie Sanders that russia is trying to help his campaign in response sanders is warning that russian president Vladimir Putin to stay out of american elections Intelligence Community has long that moscow and other countries would seek to interfere in the fight earlier the kremlin tonight claims that its been meddling in the upcoming 2020 u. S. President ial election to boost Donald Trumps chances chandran has the latest for us from washington d. C. So john what we have is the intelligence agencies briefing the senior politicians and the president berating them hes also been speaking about that tonight. Thats right a week ago the acting director of National Intelligence did what the person in that job does very often and that is briefed members of congress about the latest threats to the u. S. Government and in this case he was talking about the threat of russian meddling in the 2020 alexion 17 u. S. Intelligence agencies if it concluded that russia didnt meddle in the 2016 election donald trump has not really is not accepted those findings and now the intelligence officials are saying that russia is meddling not just in the 2020 primary a general election but also in the primary a President Trump braided Joseph Mccabe the im sorry Joseph Mcquire the d. N. I. Over that because among the people who are receiving that intelligence was Adam Schiff Adam Schiff is the House Intelligence Committee chairman and a long time photo of President Trump and trump said he was worried that schiff would weaponize that information and use it against him trump has long denied not only that russia acted to meddle on his behalf in the 2016 election but he has suggested that ukraine did so based on no information that has been verified by u. S. Intelligence agencies as far as we can tell and that they did so on behalf of Hillary Clinton and so to a rally in las vegas the president called this does information heres what he had to say i see it is phony as these that do nothing democrats they said that he wants to be sure that trump gets elected here we go. You know we go ok did you see it. Arent people port i was told that was happening as i was told a week ago they said you know theyre trying to start a rumor. Its just information thats the only thing theyre good at that not good at anything else they get nothing done dont not think democrats did just that part wants to make sure i get elected. Well john disinfo may should old null city there is a suggestion from the intelligence says that russia might be trying to in direct to help but the sound of this campaign i mean how is he responded well senator of reportedly told that within the last month and hes issued a statement he spoke to reporters on American Television not long ago in a live interview but he also responded to a Washington Post report they were the 1st to disclose that this happened and he said i dont care frankly who putin wants to be president my message is to Vladimir Putin is clear stay out of american elections and as president i will make sure that you do the russian aim is supposedly to cause discord in american elections and to according to intelligence officials to cause americans to lose faith in the election system itself recounts delays in voting and that sort of thing and last time in 2016 you may recall that emails were leaked from the Democratic National committee that suggested the committee was doing things that might favor Hillary Clinton to the detriment of Bernie Sanders in that election and in this election again now you have reports from u. S. Intelligence agencies that the russians are acting to benefit Bernie Sanders so sanders says he will fight this but he also says he believes this information came out just before a crucial caucus vote in the state of nevada in order to hurt him osha see how about to. Transpire for the moment john thanks very much. Now after several extensions polls are being closed to parliamentary elections the result is expected to change the face of the countrys largest of cho the stars of moderate and reformist candidates were barred from running a suburb reports of iraq. He said its a religious jew to vote and irans supreme you didnt lead by example casting the 1st ballot and 7 to one rick conservatives have much of their support base they followed suit. By the hour show that. This is the 1st time im voting my reason to vote is to have a share in the future of my country and help it. Not voting doesnt solve any problems conditions could deteriorate if we dont vote we should vote for the winners so the new lawmakers can fix some problems. This 88 year old says he has been voting for 70 years as an adventure in trouble i have voted from the very 1st election in the Islamic Republic 81 parliamentarian toughing disqualified from standing of the reformist hopefuls also told they cannot stand ins elections it means conservatives could benefit from a lower turnout and lack of opposition and this will have also repercussions for you when a Foreign Policy and i think this will bring more support from the parliaments side for ukraine and regional policies but more importantly it will decrease the chances for the life the hood of any direct negotiations between the rand and the United States there are those who have stayed away upset at a lack of change and an economy reeling under u. S. Sanctions are solomon right. I voted every year but i saw no effect to convince me to vote this time i finished my studies i have a bachelors and finished Ministry Service but theres no job for me from what i see no reason to want. Now to ban it i know im not voting because previous lawmakers did nothing they had no effect in the country so i didnt vote told its not me alone many to vote. Results are expected later in the week at this polling station where we have permission to film its been relatively busy but there are others cross the city that was quiet but we werent allowed to film a lower turnout will leave whoever wins this election with the task of rebuilding confidence and trust in the system i said big al jazeera to her on social on the monday me as a lecturer in modern middle eastern history at the university santander of the sense that there will be more uniformly now in making decisions a thing that the reformists have been on. On the decline for for quite some time now they havent been able to put forward a coherent platform with regard to naders on rest between state and society weve seen a lot of. People on the margins of cities workers in the pendant trade unions are rising reformists really havent been able to to provide. An answer to this challenge and so they were seen in a way as being expendable by the Guardian Council i think that is also why the border no prominent reformers boycotted the election we saw former president carter i mean going and voting and everybody else went on vote on the spite lambaste in the way the Guardian Council excluding them can there will be uniformity now in the system making the Previous Parliament for example approved the f. A. P. F. Bills against Money Laundering but these were of course blocked by higher bodies i think we will see more uniformity between these bodies but parliament in iran still are quite fickle despite the fact that this one is going to be conservative dominated but by a large we are seeing a. Sort of alignment behind the Supreme Leader i see and all these conservative figures who now clearly have the opera and. Plenty more ahead here on the news hour including more than 4000. 00 people of picking a fan so are being displaced every day well explain why also criticize for inaction the u. K. Government to stop the pressure thats already flooded communities brace themselves for more heavy rain and little messy heads back after one of his bosses blames the players for getting their coach sacked peter will have more. Italy has confirmed its 1st death from the coronavirus after the number of cases were quadrupled in one day 15 years actions have been reported in the northern Lombardy Region many of them represent its unease 1st cases of secondary infection meaning none of them to travel to china where the outbreak began. To make this we are working to identify all the people that entered in direct contact with the confirmed cases the swabs that we tested in the last hours have sadly shown 3 further cases so we reach 6 cases of positive tests for the corona virus as the number of deaths outside china continues to rise the World Health Organization chief is issued this warning about the corona virus outbreak. Although that window of opportunity is not only to contain the outbreak we still have a chance to contain it but while doing that we have to prepare at the same time for any eventuality because this outbreak could go any direction it could even be messy but what im saying is its in our hands now if we do well within the not only window of opportunity we can reverse any or we can average any. Serious crisis. Doc to be to hooters is the dean of all the National School of tropical medicine at the Baylor College of medicine he joins me now from Houston Texas good to have you with us live on aljazeera but a stark warning there from the w. H. O. Chief that the window of opportunity is narrowing how seriously should we take that warning now that we know that secondary infections are now taking charge from people who never travel to china so thats right i think thats where the the worrisome news is this afternoon that were now seeing clusters of cases in iran clusters of cases in korea were not quite calling it a pandemic yet but were inching closer to it by definition a pandemic would be where we have multiple areas of transmission globally and were awfully close so im very concerned about where were heading right they have been a couple of cases reported in the u. S. I was wondering how do you deal with it as a medical practitioner in terms of the conversations that doctors would have with the u. S. Health department in the c. D. C. Well remember this is happening at a difficult time for us so and so theres you know the number of cases is still not significant we still do not have a significant level of transmission but the worry is in the coming weeks we my the c. D. C. Director bob redfield dr redfield said that he thinks its likely now the virus will gain a foothold in the u. S. Well start seeing human to human transmission and remember what that what else is happening right now weve had a rough flu season influenza season and its now projected to go into may so were going to be simultaneously potentially finding coronavirus and influenza and then because of our very aggressive Vaccine Movement were worried about measles coming back and if as it did last year and historically measles when it peaks is late winter early spring so guess what time were headed into late winter early spring so we have this very concerning situation we may be battling on 3 fronts coronavirus measles and influenza and so i think its going to be a very interesting time over the next few few weeks until we get into april and may certainly full Global Medical practitioners like yourself unlike the chief whos also talk about sort of the history surrounding the way that this particular virus the current vice is so easily spreading i mean it is still a mystery in the way that its managing to transmit itself i mean how do you start to investigate the way these sorts of viruses are spread because they they travel in different in different ways they were different methodologies behind them. Right and remember this situations is a moving target so it started out saying it was only animals to humans and then there was under standing that there was limited human to human transmission and now the new numbers coming out of china suggest its got a very high what we call reproductive number what that means is of a single individual gets it we now up to a 4 and there are others get it so its thats a pretty transmissible virus and we dont exactly know how we know its likely that its your respiratory droplets contact but theres concern that it may get access to the airborne route actually not many viruses do that we know measles does the chicken pox but given the significant level of transmissibility it would not surprise me if that turns out to be the case it was good to get your insight dr hotez thanks so much for joining us from the u. S. Thank you now the u. N. Says violence and became a fan so is forcing more than 4000 people to flee their homes every day it says raids by armed groups are getting more and more frequent and many of those who for skate the conflict have reported murders rapes and attacks old villages 700000 people have been displaced in the last 12 months nearly a quarter of who left in just the past 3 weeks david also is a Counter Terrorism expert in Global Risk International in london he says rebel groups deisel are taking advantage of the vacuum of power in the king to fasten. I think book in the 1st 2 has now become the weakest link in the looked at google my region which you know comprises of the j. And molly and that has been principally because of the influx of jihad these that have taken advantage of the prosody of the borders since the collapse of the Islamic State and we have seen experience jihad the east you know coming towards mali and because of the influence of the french operation back a bit over the g 5 most of these jihadist fighters have moved towards booking fassel that they see as on prepaid you know to convert them with on govern species you know i see in west Africa Province spritzed was an area that has its the ngs within that region so there is some kind of a concoction of jihad the civilization which has been made worse because you then have militias which are coming out you know linked to the militia the full in the end from i have a crisis but in the region insecurity it leads to displacement and then these for that leads to for that insecurity because a lot of people good to areas where they already stretched and overstretched by you know these poor verty and inequalities so what is happening now is this is now creating communal violence between settlers and people that are coming in as refugees and displaced persons so i think the situation is really really bad you know and that is where the u. N. Is really calling for a an intervention within that within the region of universal but i think its quite important for the book in a faster government to get its act together but work alongside regional powers and regional states that are already facing the same problems as well in that region. Well still ahead here all the news police are deployed to germanys mosques as the government warns the threat of far right attacks remains high. In thailand dissolves an Opposition Party led by a billionaire who challenge the military backed government is also one l. B. De will say songs for things to heavyweight 5 to 6 times story coming up in sports with peter after the break do stay with us here on the news hour. Hello again welcome back to International Weather forecast well here across the southern United States the big story over the last week has been the flooding we have been talking about mostly along much of the rivers down here a lot of the rivers are at flood stage the good news is here on saturday we do have a break in the rain but it takes more than just one day to let all of that water begin to recede out here towards the west though were going to be watching some rain pushing through los angeles and Southern California into parts of new mexico as well arizonas going to be seeing some rain thats going to continue to make its way a little bit more towards the east becoming snow into those Higher Elevations but sunday is also going to be did we see a day of more rain across much of the Central Plains as well not a lot of rain but this is going to instigate the flooding situation across much of the area over the next few days the eastern part of the caribbean looks quite nice but it is over here towards mexico southern mexico that we are going to be seeing some very heavy rain and that is going to be making its way more towards the south into quad amala so for Guatemala City it is going to be possibly a rainy day for you where the temp to there of 26. 00 degrees and then here in brazil we are watching one front making its way towards the north towards Rio De Janeiro and with that we could be seeing some Severe Weather 24 degrees here on saturday but down here 21 is at us a little chilly with a temperature of 24. Frank assessments the one good thing about these bushfires usage really wiping out the politics of Climate Change informed opinions economy i think is actually whats keeping donald trump afloat right now critical debate sequel on those 2 schoolchildren know what the law is all d about this argument is astonishingly patronize an indepth analysis of the days headlines this is the beginning of a new iraq of the new conscious and aware of youth about struggle against an ethnic sectarian kota inside story on aljazeera thanks love to make loans to sufferings because behind the suffering a millions of taxpayers because those taxpayers never go away theres a new one born every single day a 19 it is an emerging National Missile city and we put it we officially request the accusation of the support mechanism we created together because i happen to live in greece somehow im a sinner im a bad person. S. Will begin calling a reduction of violence if the 7 day deal proves a success both sides will sign an accord next week. Democratic president ial hopeful Bernie Sanders has warned russias president to stay out of the us elections it follows appalled certain american intelligence and briefed congress that the kremlin was meddling to boost both sanders and trumps campaigns. And italy has confirmed its 1st death from the corona virus after the number of cases were quadrupled in one day 15 new infections have been reported in the northern low body region many of them represent italys 1st cases of secondary infection meaning that none of them to travel to china where the outbreak began. The u. N. Secretary general has called for an immediate cease fire in northwestern syria and hundreds of millions of dollars in extra aid and turning a good tariff says the man made humanitarian nightmare for the Syrian People must stop as the space for safety shrinks further the potential for human suffering worse an estimated 2800000 people in northwest syria required humanitarian assistance earlier these months we saw it we would need to reach 800000 people displaced by the recent and ongoing violence now something much greater is required its. We are you vising our plans and issued an urgent appeal to donors put in additional 500000000. 00 u. S. Dollars to cover the needs of the newly displaced people over the next 6 months. But the military offensive by Government Forces to retake the remaining rebel held areas may slow efforts treats hundreds of thousands stranded on the border with turkey. Reports from hot. Asim is the head of an extended family his originated from s. M. The town in the south of italy when the town was have. Him and his family fled a few days ago they arrived here in a rebel held village in the countryside north of it destitute hes planning to join the thousands of poor and displaced syrians living in olive orchards here in its live city. I need at least from a large family their dog me to buy them but each cost around 250. 00 in pinellas fatima malise from hellfire a town in the rural hama when Syrian Government troops advanced closer to her village she says the family left a rebel stronghold in aleppo fatimas husband was killed 3 years ago now she lives in this brick built by Turkish Charities with financial contribution from germany. The place doesnt provide any protection from the rain and cold but when i remember what we went through and the day to bombardments this feels fine for me or for my kids. This is what it looked like in a tent at camp in some other 3 months ago civilians converged on this town north of it live hoping for shelter food and warmth but when some of those attacked a few days ago the displaced dishpan till their turns and flat the school they struggle to settle is now deserted for now thousands of syrians seem destined to continue their long journey looking for shelter and peace for the hundreds of thousands of people who have recently been uprooted by the fighting the only way they can go home is if there is a ceasefire agreement one that guarantees syrian Government Forces will and the military campaign but cease fire agreements have never last long in syria and this explains why people have lost hope in International Efforts to solve the crisis diplomatically. How tie. Lets head to africa now where in south sudan presents are killer has dissolved his cabinet in preparation for a new unity government Opposition Leader i was shot has been appointed his 1st Vice President to former rivals will lead the new government in saturday in an attempt to end years of conflict morgan is in juba she says people hope theyll finally see change. Ahead of forming what has been termed as the revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity on saturday south sudans president on friday issued several decrees relieving the ministers of the government from their positions as well as relieving the 1st Vice President and Vice President one eager from their posts now the president also issued more decrees the most prominent being appointing the head of the Opposition Leader rick machar as for his Vice President according to a peace deal that was a time in 20082 between the worrying side story and 5 years of conflict he also issued decrees that saw the return of taliban daniel as Vice President and one eager also as Vice President now this all comes as part of a deal that was signed between the various opposition parties and the government in 2018 and a conflict that started in 2013 which has led to at least 4 100000 people being killed and more than 2000000 displaced within the country and some in neighboring countries but just because the 2 sides and or all the sides have said that they are trying to meet a deadline that doesnt mean all the issues are resolved the most outstanding issue between the sides had been the number of states that has been resolved by the president last saturday when he announced that the country will be returning to the former number of 10 states along with 3 administrative areas but then the issues of security arrangements still remain to be outstanding between the various sides that will in just a matter of hours be partners in the government they have said that they are going to agree to try to resolve this issues after the formation of the government to make sure that they do not miss another deadline and lets not forget that february 22nd is already deferred deadline the 1st initial deadline had been in maine 2019 and then that was postponed to november 29th team but due to several outstanding issues that had not been resolved between the warring sides they had to push it to february 28th seems so people on the streets of south sudan are saying that theyre looking forward to a government formation so that they can. See the impacts of the peace deal that has been signed in 2018 but is yet to be reflected on the ground theyre saying that the economy has suffered a lot since the conflict started and they want to make sure that peace comes to the country so that they can try to go back to their normal lives only 13 when the war started well staying on the continent the citys Prime Minister has left the country skipping a Court Appearance where he was due to be charged with the murder of his a strange wife thomas the secretary says he hasnt slowed but has gone to south africa for a doctors appointment for balis one of was shot dead near her home in 2017 his current wife from the same has already been charged with ordering her murder both deny any involvement to either miller has more from the capitol. This is where Prime Minister tom to bonnie was due to appear early on friday to face charges of murder and attempted murder following the 2017 shooting obviously a strange why for. Once the Prime Minister didnt appear in court there was intense speculation around his whereabouts and if in fact he was still in the suit too this is a Prime Minister who had previously fled the country when there was an attempted coup when he said his life was in danger in this case time to bonnie in south africa where his office says hes receiving medical treatment the Prime Minister had to be taking to africa for this emergency a medical check up. What is happening. Especially he smiled. And also taking into consideration that hes a very. Upset. He had to make sure that. When he comes back. The magistrate here charges against him and plead the 1. 00 to 2. 00 plead its likely that the court will set a new date for to barneys appearance perhaps in the next week or so but what remains uncertain is whether or not to bonnie will return to the suit anytime soon and make his way to this court to face those charges his wife. Is also facing the same charges she appeared earlier in the week and is due back in court in the middle of march now both have said that they had nothing to do with the murder of deep well or to barney this is a development that really has caused a lot of Political Tension especially within the all bus its a convention thats the governing party here in a suit to the party that leads this is a party that isnt united some want the Prime Minister to resign immediately while others may wait for him to leave office at the end of july when he says he will retire and when he spoke to people in a suit is saying that he would retire and he didnt at any point deal with the charges hes facing nor did he say that is the reason he is stepping down. Germanys interior minister has warned that the far right poses the biggest threat to the countrys security and thats after going people were killed on wednesday when a gunman opened fire at 2 she should bars in the city of her though extra Police Patrolling last train stations and pauls double it came in her small. Meanwhile the investigation into the murder is concentrating on his social media postings and what was on his Computers Office is admit he contacted them several months ago as an attention seeker but no action was taken as his comments were not openly racist they are clear his motivation for wednesdays murders was from the far right separately the f. T. Party has caused its own controversy by including a link to the murderous manifesto in a tweet while saying it deplored the shootings the far right party has itself now been condemned for its link to the site the current christian democrat leader says the f. T. Is to blame for creating a basis for exactly the kind of thinking that led to the shootings but back in high now such thoughts pale in comparison with the suffering of the victims and their relatives many of whom had come to germany with the hope of a new life and instead found themselves targeted by a racist murderer dominic cain aljazeera hanau. This body delved into areas that others have and like going to reform one of the most powerful Political Forces in thailand the military but their ideas proved popular with many thais perhaps too popular and the military and the courts moved against them. The election last year the 1st since a 2014 coup was also future forwards 1st and it won more than 6000000. 00 votes. It was an outcome that perhaps surprised the military that had spent the preceding years devising a new political system that many believe was designed to maintain its grip on power it now seems inevitable that thailands fight for democracy will once again be taken to the. Theyve avoided the worst for now but People Living in iron bridge a Historic Town in the english midlands are still worried earlier this week following storm dennis the river severn came over the wall here only these temporary barriers stopped the town being flooded in some areas residents had to evacuate their homes in others they were able to limit the damage we had sandbags regular contact if you need anything ill get it for you. And the scientists are saying its going right now. And ill go with them. And like paul more and more people in britain are getting used to the idea that the Climate Crisis means the prospect of heavier flooding increased warming means theres more energy retained within the atmosphere thats going to lead to more moisture within the atmosphere thats more energy and more moisture in the atmosphere there and implication of that is theres going to be more intense rainfall there was major flooding at the end of last year when Prime MinisterBoris Johnson made a point of visiting some affected areas this time around hes been criticized for staying away his government is promising to spend billions of dollars on flood defenses and flood victims are being offered immediate grants of several 100 dollars but some local authorities want more help the support thats been given here has been pretty slim really and weve had a great deal of help from the Environment Agency working with the council but we really do need to think now about getting some resources into find longer Term Solutions for places like im bridge and as ive said were going to need probably 30 to 40000000 pounds of commitment from the government so well be seeking ministers to come down have a look and also to think with us about how we can protect this environment because we cant do it alone once the rivers return to its normal levels serious questions are still to be answered like what to do with the 10s of thousands of new homes which according to a new report have been built over the last 10 years in areas of britain that are greatest risk of flooding the prospect of storms that are both heavier and more regular is forcing the country to think hard about how it copes in future and how it will pay for the solutions barbara aljazeera in shropshire.
