Can do they dont want to go into a no war we can say a war that is a comprehensive for a conventional war with the americans because they are unable to do so but also i think americans also do not want to go to the war because that this isnt for the war can be easily started but no one can have the decision to end the war if that attack would be resulted of heavy casualties on the americans theres the that would be the retaliation Something Different if there would be no casual it is its only minor casualties or materialistic casualties then. Retaliation will be different also so it depends on the evaluation of her math of the attack and how the. Would be reacting to wars this kind of attack so in my perspective that the americans will favor to the escalation this situation because i think their forces in iraq are vulnerable there are a lot so you know nonstate actors could deliver the message or deliberately the reaction that would be causing a lot of kids realty is maybe and therefore i think. United will go for the us collation the situation time to remind you of all the developments as we know them out of the gulf this wednesday iran launching more than a dozen Ballistic Missiles at 2 iraqi air bases which host u. S. Forces one is in a bill the other is the i and al Assad Air Base in the province also irans revolutionary guard issued a warning to israel and other u. S. Allies in the region saying they will be attacked if they countries are used to strikes against attack from. Straight to baghdad now some of binge of aid as our correspondent whos been covering this one since the early summer take us through it. What in the early hours of the morning we heard news that iranian i r g c commanders are confirming that they launched missiles that iraq and in the hours leading up to now we got confirmation from iraq to Security Forces as well as the us president that 2 bases in iraq one in the province that i know the base and the other one and theyre being very hit theres no reports of the u. S. Base being hit but weve seen reports of rockets and fuselage landing in agricultural areas or been weve also been hearing about some sort of material damage in analysts and base which is a major Logistics Hub a sprawling complex where at any given time hundreds of coalition u. S. As well as iraqi troops are present it is a very important logistical hub as as well as a place where we visited as well from where drone flights as well as other aircraft take off and land so this is where we are where we are we have heard about some casualties fear of some casualties or may not be sources but so far nothing has been confirmed theres been a lot of confusion because. Apart from the messages that weve been getting from pentagon the u. S. President some kurdish officials of the Iraqi Government remains missing from this picture and were still waiting to hear from the iraqi Prime Minister and Security Officials about what happened and what are they going to do about it could you just clarify for our viewers as you did. About the actual bases themselves these are not u. S. Air bases these are joint facilities can we call the bat. But these are essentially iraq the bases of all of the facilities that the u. S. Led coalition and the militarys using in iraq are iraqi facilities which were handed over to iraq after the u. S. Led invasion in 2003 there was a u. S. Pullout in 2011 and these bases which were under the use of u. S. Forces have been handed back to iraqi Security Forces in 2014 when iraq requested the United Nations for help to fight against i think the u. S. Led coalition came in a 6 month 60 Member Alliance was quickly formed and these bases went back into somewhat the control of joint Security Forces predominantly the u. S. Forces so there are a number of these bases spotted across iraq some in baghdad some close to both the further afield in the north and the south as well there are some iranian news outlets who have been sharing possible targets that are being used by Coalition Members so these bases now after the defeat of bison are mostly based for Recon Missions where drones and other aerial equipment flies out to make sure that iceland is not regrouping and since the assassination of questions of the money all of those operations have been suspended as well as the operation to train iraqi troops that is the point that the Prime Minister was making as well that now that the mission has changed for what the Iraqi Government asked International Troops to do theyre having to protect themselves against attacks from within and outside of iraq and it will be an additional burden on iraqi Security Forces to defend them thank you so a binge of a day in baghdad. Thats a good iran now and not to forget where all of this started the notion of cause and so the money and weve got pictures here of the burial ceremony for the Iranian Military chief who was killed in that u. S. Airstrike on friday his death as i say sparking this latest escalation in tension between the u. S. And iran this was supposed to conclude yesterday but of course there was that stem paid which killed upwards of 40 people jury the funeral procession and other news out of iran as well unrelated stage certainly a boeing 737 which belonged to Ukraine International airlines has crashed due to technical problems this happened just after takeoff in the capital tehran which is where i beg it is for us now just quickly as i know theres not a huge amount of information but can you tell us what youve heard so far. So weve heard that the spokesperson for the Aviation Authority here has confirmed that boeing 737 has crashed shortly after takeoff they say is down to technical problems you understand that its crashed in the south of iran but we have no reports of casualties at the moment we believe its under elated to whats been going on between the United States and iran here but just seems its time to technical problems it was on his way to kiev ukraine is on a boeing 737 ok thank you for keeping us up to date on that one and if you do get any more let us know. Lets talk about events in reaction in iran as well we talked about. The Donald Trumps tweet a little bit earlier where he said well lets find a sort of different perhaps more nuanced reaction from the iranians from the foreign minister. Yes he cited the u. N. Charter he said that this was a defensive measure and a retaliation to a specific incident but he also said that iran doesnt want a war doesnt want to escalate it but this is been the line since these strikes have taken place the revolutionary guard have said the same thing that if the United States retaliate then iran will be forced to escalate this because this farce of rons concerned this is in response to a specific incident and that is the assassination of custom so the money that customs and the money was the general in charge of the of force which is part of the revolutionary guard that could force deals with operations outside the country now he was a very popular general the 2nd most important man in iran and this assassination has started off this cycle of events here weve seen hundreds of thousands of people come out on to the streets asking for revenge saying that he should be avenged calling up on politicians of the b. Disappear to retaliate for the assassination a pilot titians of said that they would the Supreme LeaderAyatollah Khomeini he also said that he wouldnt have waited until the burial so there were 4 days of mourning his body went to city of the holy city of the funerals have here in toronto and then to home city of code of mine where you want to be buried next to those that died fighting in the iran iraq war and we understand that he was buried in the early hours of this morning but before right before he was buried iran dont still strikes against those bases in iraq around 132. 00 where earing time local time here that was the 1st wave of attacks and around an hour and a half later the 2nd wave of attacks was launched from here on head but right now the revolutionary guard at the authorities here. Saying that they dont want to escalate this but they have sent out to Warning Center the warning to israel and also regional countries that has us faces that if an attack is kind against iran using those bases those countries will become a target and im sure those regional countries are very nervous at the moment and waiting to see what the United States reaction will be thank you in teheran well be talking more with outside later on events there and maybe more on that plane crash as well i want you to have a look at some pictures 1st of all just a short amount of pictures but this is the Missile Launch this is the launch from iran we dont have details on exactly where in iran but those are. 3 theyre all of the dozens of missiles which were sent from iran to wards those 2 bases in iraq that quite extraordinary pictures on in the middle of the night those being fired across hundreds of miles hundreds of kilometers to reach those 2 iraqi air bases which also housed u. S. Troops who just had those pictures in of the launch of those iranian strikes i mentioned with. The tweet from donald trump lets just wait it out to you because that is the language is very interesting the way he writes all is well he starts off with saying missiles launched from iran to military bases located in iraq assessment of casualties and damage is taking place now so far so good we have the most powerful and well equipped military anywhere in the world by far i will be making a statement tomorrow morning its coming up midnight in fact on the u. S. East coast has Gabriel Elizondo in our Washington News and its peculiar language there isnt it all as well and so far so good. Yeah it is peculiar language but i think what youre seeing there from President Donald Trump is hes trying to downplay the situation a little bit its important to note to come out that tweet came out just about 9 50 pm local time here in the u. S. Used before 10 pm about 2 hours ago so that tweet came out after the president had been briefed by his war cabinet which was his secretary of defense secretary of state as well as joint chiefs of staff chairman who all rushed to the white house as this as the 2 bases in iraq were being attacked and briefed the president and its unclear what exactly they briefed him about the details of the attack but of the attacks i should say but clearly trump got the message or the message he wanted to give out to the world really into the American People where is it from his perspective everything is under control now white might why might he be saying this you know there were talks that the president could it could be addressing the nation tuesday evening which raised all sorts of worry here in the United States that perhaps this could be escalated very quickly but what were seeing now is perhaps a pause the white house is dark right now the press the office at the white house is completely closed were not expected to hear any more statements from any more government officials than from the pentagon or the white house this evening until wednesday morning local time here is what i think youre getting the sense of here is that without the pentagon confirming all of this were hearing that no u. S. Troops were killed but we still havent heard from him about any of the damage to u. S. Assets on either of these bases but clearly i think the sense that youre getting here from the pentagon at least in the early so early assessment of this is that this could have been much worse clearly i think if for example a mess hall full of american soldiers was hit and there were significant american casualties youd probably be seeing a much different reaction coming out of the white house. Right now so i think thats why youre seeing from washington standpoint from trump standpoint putting a pause on this right now yet and thats what the iranians i guess were hoping to see is the fact that and they say its that this is a retaliation for the death of their money not an escalation i know she is also the language from some of the u. S. Plays the likes of secretary. And secretary defense marcus fairs to say we dont want to miss collation theyre quite keen to say that but then in the same breath they say but will defend ourselves. Yeah earlier on tuesday pompei o. Did say this is before the bases were attacked in iraq and he did say we we dont want to school ation he said were trying to deescalate the situation we seek a diplomatic solution that was kind of the language were hearing out of washington on tuesday however in the same breath whats happening is as as there are some diplomatic avenues opening for example we did hear late on tuesday from the white house the President Donald Trump did speak to the emir of qatar for example there are 10000 u. S. Troops in qatar very strategically important ally to the United States but also as you know very well a neighbor to juran as well trump did speak to the emir of qatar about the issue he spoke to the german chancellor Angela Merkel as well so you are seeing some diplomatic avenues opening up here on one hand but we got so i have to point out that the u. S. Has denied or blocked a visa for irans foreign minister mohammad. Reef to come to new york for the u. N. Security Council Meeting on thursday the u. S. Said that they simply did not have time to process his visa but of course we know that clearly if the u. S. Wanted to get the foreign minister his v. Said they could probably do it so theyre essentially blocking it by all accounts so that this certainly does not bode well for opening up diplomatic avenues in that sense so youre seeing a little bit of playing both ends of that both ends of the spectrum here if you will but i do think you are seeing an opportunity potentially for some diplomatic avenues and as they say an off ramp here for both sides iran and the United States to come to some core of talks thank you Gabriel Elizondo in washington. We made mention of this earlier its been almost a supplementary news the fact that irans revolutionary guard issued a warning to u. S. Allies which it considers were complicit i guess in the in the killing of a consummate a man and that includes israel powerful sit in west jerusalem take us through this one. Well yes no reaction coming to that yet from the Israeli Government is heading toward 7 am here in west jerusalem but as you say there has been this report on a news agency links to the i. R. G. C. Israel would be among targets if there were a wider escalation there was mention of a telegram account according to reports of haifa the port city in northern israel instance pacifics being targeted in such a why the response now this of course all would depend on exactly what happens next in terms of the u. S. Reaction to this attack overnight on these bases inside iraq but it does accord to some extent with what we were hearing semi officially at least from the Israeli Government earlier this week there was a security Cabinet Meeting on monday the israeli Prime MinisterBenjamin Netanyahu apparently according to leaks to the local media telling his colleagues in government during that meeting that this was an american attack on iran on irans most senior military commander last week that israel was not involved and according to those same reports those intelligence briefing given to that security Cabinet Meeting which suggested that israel would not be in line for any response from iran at least in the 1st instance that u. S. Interests in the region instead were far more likely to be struck in the iranian retaliatory response however of course that does not mean that israel is totally outside of this iran sees israel in the United States very much as joined at the hip in terms of their military and Political Alliance the kind of strategic measures that sort of money was in charge of inside iraq inside syria have been viewed here in israel as serious threat and israels been carrying out military action against those interests for some time. Thank you for all of that very full sit in west jerusalem some analysis now from Lawrence Korb who spoke to us earlier he is a former u. S. Assistant secretary of defense and says irans retaliation for the assassination of general sort of money actually puts President Trump in a difficult position. President trump has no good options he thought that killing so long and would put a stop to this tit for tat if you will responses he does not want to get the United States and a big war with iran i may not read it much bigger for example that that iraq on the other hand he doesnt want to look weak because basically he thought that killing so all of money would put a stop to fool all of us and remember he ran as the president who is going to get us out of these wars if you count the troops he said then after the recent attacks on the us faces in the semper we have 60000 troops in the region right now and so he has no good options and it will be passe to see what he does we do remember after the iranians blew up the Saudi Oil Fields he didnt retaliate the iranians may have taken that as a signal that they could you know question by attacking the american bases until a. Contractor and of course that he retaliated by filling general sulks omani i think its least work option would be to maybe. Attack a rainy ship for example own. Strain of hormuz or 2 but basically i hit some of the a radian forces that are in iraq those are the 5 things i think we can do and dont forget we have the whole situation with iraq what i would the iraqis going to say whatever his responses will it get them to want to move the u. S. Forces out which would undermine our security because isis is really you know reconstituting itself not as a counter a but as a terrorist group. You know fall from the streets of baghdad or terror around for that matter the assassination of general cos and so the money by the us a sense shock waves through the large Iranian American Community says in california many people there oppose the government in tehran but they dont fancy war either reynolds reports from los angeles. Well sensualists is home to more people of iranian descent than any city other than tehran the crisis over the assassination of general Qassam Soleimani has cast a fearful shadow over the sunlit streets theres a lot of fear and anxiety and just worry about whats to come people are worried about yet another war in the region and in their homeland impacting their family and loved ones in a farsi language book shop on westwood boulevard proprietor sam begs a day says President Trump is only interested in his own political ambitions for reelection hes trying to make it a lot at the media at least and because of that he made everything on safe at whole war president tom is not a military president thrawn is not a politician milby he was a businessman he doesnt understand anything hes brainless travel agent michael amir he says the crisis has affected his business a lot of people are they counseled they are god you can sit in bed and there is you know if they go out of the day want to return as soon as possible still he approves of solmonese killing that they are the biggest terrorists and im glad you know that they got to know that by contrast the National IranianAmerican Council condemned the assassination extremely reckless and extremely. Irrational several days ago Los Angeles Area iranian americans took part in a protest rally over the assassination many were shocked by President Trumps threats to destroy iranian cultural sites i think that for many of us this actually feels like terrorism when someone from. Your cultural and Historic Sites some iranian americans fear they will be subject to harassment by the. Government or individuals if the crisis worsens there have been multiple reports of u. S. Citizens of iranian heritage being stopped by authorities at the u. S. Border and questioned at length about their political views this community has weathered crisis after crisis between the u. S. And iran but this one feels different this is the most serious action that has been taken i think and in recent history which is i think the most worried we have been about oh oh a war in iran and a possible war thats broader than iran a Community United in fear of more violence robert oulds al jazeera los angeles.
