Character of colonel than i thought this was very interesting certainly wasnt unexpected it was very interesting for this reason they didnt really question anything colonel that man said after all what colonel inman said is what what you said he was in that july 10th meeting he heard the same quid pro quo the same comments by some and if you want this meeting ukrainians and we have an agreement about this you got to an ounce youre going to do these investigations are the same quid pro quo that you did so why are these smearing him. Mr holmes you testified just as venom and said kernel of him and said that he warns alinsky about getting involved in u. S. Politics you dont question that they didnt take issue with that so why smear this purple heart recipient just like this mayor of a vast array of audit its just gratuitous i dont question the facts its just gratuitous the attack on you mr holmes that you were indiscreet and mention this conversation to others well i think youre quite right the indiscretion is when an ambassador u. U. A cause the president out in secure a line in a country known for Russian Telecommunications and eavesdropping thats more than indiscretion thats a Security Risk but why attack you mr holmes they dont question anything you said in question what conversation you overheard and bastard saw online indeed didnt question what you said he had knowledge that the one thing the president wanted to know the day after that conversation was alinsky was is he going to do the investigations and so on and said yes hell do anything you ask they dont question that so why attack you they didnt question your testimony when you said it. And i think you asked simon does donald trump give a blank and i would like to use the word here about ukraine and he said he doesnt give a blank about ukraine he only cares about the big stuff and you said well theres some big stuff here ukraines at war with russia thats kind of big stuff and his answer was no no no no no he cares about the big stuff that matters to him his personal interests like the biden investigation the julie what giuliani wants. I mean one question posed by your testimony mr holmes is what do we care about do we care about the big stuff like the constitution like an oath of office or do we only care now about party what do we care about but lets lets go beyond your testimony today lets look at the Bigger Picture what do we know now after these depositions these secret depositions of people watching at home might not know that in these secret depositions which apparently no one else is allowed to hear no members are allowed to participate its just secret apparently sounds like its just me and the witness only over 100 members of congress are able to participate in those secret depositions and the minority was just so. Unable to participate they got the same time they got in these open hearings it was the same format that was the secret star chamber that you marry so much about. So what of what do we learn through these depositions and through the testimony because so much of this is really undisputed we learned that a dedicated Public Servant named maria vonn a bitch known for fighting corruption widely respected throughout the diplomatic corps was ruthlessly smear by Rudy Giuliani by the president s own son by their friends on fox primetime and a whole host of other characters her reputation was selling so they could get her out of the way which they did and youre right it was quick to dis the president could have gotten rid of her any time he wanted but thats not enough for this president. No he has to smear and destroy those that get it his way and if someone fighting corruption in ukraine was getting in his way so shes gone shes gone and this makes way almost immediately there after she leaves the 3 amigos come in 3 amigos 2 of whom never made the connection that barisan means biden it took to morrison all of 30 seconds on google to figure that out but what were to believe i guess that in all the companies in all the world Rudy Giuliani just happens to be interested in this one thats thats absurd the interest of course was in an investigation of Donald Trumps rival the one that he apparently feared the most and they were willing to do whatever was necessary to get ukraine to do that dirty work to do that political investigation and so it began were not going to set up a phone call until youd make certain commitments that was investor somnolence testimony the 1st quid pro quo was actually just getting on the phone with President Trump and then there was the quid pro quo involving the white house meeting and witness after witness and none of my colleagues contested this talked about just how important that meeting was to the president of ukraine and why theyre at war with russia and their most important ally is the United States and the most important person in the United States that relationship is the president of the United States and if president selenski can show that he has a Good Relationship with the president id states. It means to his people that this new president has the support of their most important patron and it means to the russians that we have their back this president this new president who has negotiated with a far superior power that has invaded his country is going into a negotiation with putin over how to resolve this conflict whether he has good leverage or lousy leverage to persons depends on whether the russians think he has a relationship with the president and the president wouldnt give him that not without getting something in return wouldnt give him that official act that white house meeting without getting something in return and that return was investigations of his rival that would help his reelection an official act or something of clear value and something very important the big stuff as sawn than explain to mr holmes to help his campaign and we also heard abundant testimony about the other quid pro quo the withholding of Security Assistance which no one can explain theres no debate among my colleagues everyone in the n. S. C. In the state Department DefenseDepartment Everyone support this everyone all the reviews that need to be done to make sure that ukraine was meeting its and to corruption standards had been done and they had found to meet the criteria the age should have been released but it was withheld and no one could understand or get a clear explanation for why until it became clear to everyone its all about the investigations its all about the leverage and if there was any doubt about it the man closest to the president who meets with him every day Mick Mulvaney erased all doubt youre darn right yes we talked about the 2016 election investigation. And yes this was in the context of holding up the military aid and you know just get used to it or just get over it or whatever it was he said because thats how we roll it was are my words not is but thats the import yeah theres going to be politics and just get over it well if we care about the big stuff we cant just get over it now my colleagues have had a lot of defenses to all of this evidence which is piled up day after day after day and its amazing they hear you testified mr holmes it was clear that the Security Systems was being withheld was clear to all of the americans it was clear to the ukrainians you testify the craniums felt pressure they still feel pressure this day one of my colleagues saying the same hearing i mean i guess theyre not listening ukrainians felt no pressure theres no evidence they felt pressure which gets into their next offense which is its all hearsay its all hearsay now most of my colleagues i guess are not lawyers lawyers out there understand just how wrong they are about what hearsay is but lets just discuss this in terms that all people can understand the impression they would have you take from its all hearsay is because we in this committee were not in that ward room with you dr hill we were not in that meeting earlier with dr bolton that because were not in the room its all hearsay after all you are relating what you heard and you were saying it so it must be hearsay and therefore we dont really have to think about it do we we dont have to consider that you have direct evidence that this meeting in the white house was being withheld because the president wanted these meetings. These investigations we can accept that if that were true you could never present any evidence in court unless the jury was also in the wardroom thats absurd they dont accept the documentary evidence all the Text Messages about quid pro quos are we really saying and thats crazy and if the my Worst Nightmare is the russians will get it now quit they dont accept the documents the few documents that we have from the state department that were produced by the way by the state department where sonnen communicates directly with the secretary of state about this investigative interest of the president and they dont accept the documents either i guess the documents are also hearsay now might be a little more convincing if they were joining us in demanding that the documents produce be produced but of course theyre not and we know why not because the documents are like that one we saw on the screen they implicate others including secretary pompei oh so of course donald trump and secretary pompei i dont want to see those documents but a part of its all hearsay even when you actually hear the president mr holmes thats hearsay we cant rely on people saying what the president said apparently we can only rely on what the president says and there we shouldnt even rely on that either we shouldnt really rely on with the president said in the call record we should imagine he said Something Else we should imagine he said something about actually fighting corruption instead of what he actually said which was i want you to do us a favor though. I want to look into this 26000 crowd strike Conspiracy Theory and i want you to look into the bidens i guess were not even supposed to rely on that because thats hearsay well thats absurd that would be like saying you cant rely on the testimony of the burglars during watergate because its only hearsay or you cant consider the fact that they tried to break in because they got caught they actually didnt get what they came for so you know got a no harm no foul thats absurd thats absurd but the other the other defense besides it failed the scheme failed they got caught the other defense is the president and eyes well i guess thats case closed right the president says really quite spontaneously its not as if he was asked in this way no quid pro quo what you want from craig no no quid pro quo this is the im not a crook defense you say it and i guess thats the end of it well the only thing we can say is that its not so much that the situation is different and turn of terms of nixons conduct and trumps conduct weve seen here is far more serious than a 3rd rate burglary of the democratic headquarters what were talking about here is the withholding of recognition in that white house meeting the withholding of military aid to an ally at war that is beyond anything next and did the difference between then and now is not the difference between nixon and trump its the difference between that congress and this one and so we were asking where is howard baker where is howard baker. Where are the people who are willing to go beyond their party to look to their duty i was struck by colonel vans mins testimony because he said that he acted out of duty what is our duty here thats what we need to be asking not using metaphors about balls and strikes or. Our team and your team ive heard my colleagues use those metaphors should be about duty what is our duty we are and this gets to mr hex point we we are the indispensable nation we still are people look to us from all over the world journalists from their jail cells in turkey the victims of mass extradition killing in the philippines people who gathered in Tahrir Square on ng a Representative Government people in china who are we as. People in ukraine who want to Better Future they look to us theyre not going to look to the russians theyre not going to look to the chinese they cant look to europe with all its problems they still look to us and increasingly they dont recognize what they see because what they see is americans saying dont engage in political prosecutions and what they say back is oh you mean like the bidens and the clintons that you want us to investigate what they see they dont recognize and that is a terrible tragedy for us but its a greater tragedy for the rest of the world now i happen to think that when the founders provided a mechanism in the constitution for impeachment they were worried about what might happen if someone on ethical took the highest office in the land and used it for their personal gain and not. Because of deep care about the big things that should matter like our National Security and our defense and our allies and what the country stands for happen to think thats why they put that remedy in the constitution and i think we need to consult our conscience. And our constituents and decide whether that remedy is appropriate here whether that remedy is necessary here and as you know notwithstanding what my colleague said i resisted going down this path for a long time but i will tell you why i could resist no more and it came down to this it came down to actually came down to timing it came down to the fact that the day after bob muller testified that day after bob mother testified that donald trump invited russian interference a russian if youre listening come get hillarys emails and later that day they tried to hack her server the day after he testified that not only did trump invite that interference but that he welcomed the help in the campaign they made full use of but they lied about it it structed the investigation into it and all this is in his testimony and his report that day after that donald trump is back on the phone asking another nation to involve itself in another us election that says to me this president believes he is above the law beyond accountability and in my view there is nothing more dangerous than an ethical president who believes there are above the law and i would just say to people watching here at home and around the world. In the words of my great colleague we are better than that adjourned. The end of another intense day the 5th day of public hearings in the donald trump impeachment testimony on capitol hill the chairman of the Committee Adam Schiff wrapping up proceedings there with his Closing Remarks a good 25 minutes almost 30 minutes id say he spent wrapping up there just about 5 minutes from devon inness me off is it from the Republican Party and quite a day as i say weve been hearing from 2. Witnesses that is david holmes political counselor from the u. S. Embassy in kiev and dr fiona hill the former russian advise that the white house a lot of focus today on that Russia Ukraine relationship and exactly who may have interfered in the u. S. Election of 2016 and looking ahead to 2020 as well im santa maria here in doha welcome to aljazeera is continuing coverage of the donald trump impeachment inquiry it is about 20 past 4 in the afternoon right now in washington d. C. Heidi castro is our correspondent on capitol hill who has been watching and listening to all of this today heidi as i said it very intense is the word i always come to for these for these hearings because there is so much information there i think maybe well do best to hear from the players themselves so lets start with david holmes this is his recollection of what he heard when ambassador solomon was on the phone with donald trump lets have a listen on bass or silence phone was not on speaker phone i could hear the president s voice through the earpiece of. The president s voice was loud and recognizable and a baster song and held the phone away from his ear for a period of time presumably because of the loud volume. I heard a bass or song and greet the president and explain he was calling from kieve i heard President Trump and clarify that ambassador song was in ukraine vasser song replied yes he was in ukraine and went on to state that president selenski quote loves your ass i then heard President Trump ask so hes going to do the investigation master song replied that hes going to do it adding that president alinsky will do anything you ask him to do heidi the republicans will say that 2nd hand it was overheard but really when you hear. David holmes reading that out there it does sound quite damning. Thats right and home says that thats not 2nd hand he says thats 1st hand because he here heard it with his own ears they were words that came out of the president s mouths mouth that that that he overheard on this very loud apparently phone call that the the the ambassador to the e. U. Gordon sol and had made it to trump they were actually sitting on the restaurant patio as holmes tells it and then after someone hung up with the president holmes who is a who was quite intrigued he said frankly never seen anyone just call the president the United States while having lunch before he asked what else was discussed and he heard from the ambassador that trump didnt give an expletive about ukraine that he only cared about the big stuff and then when holmes asked what was this big stuff there were there was big stuff he said like the war that ukraine was fighting against russia and stalin said no its not that the big stuff is the investigations into the bidens which would help trump politically and the reason that this overheard conversation is so damaging to the president is that it is some of the very rare 1st hand information that we have about that sheds some light at least about what the president s mind was what was his motive when he was withholding the security aid to ukraine at the very heart of the accusations against the president that may lead to his impeachment an effort by the democrats to remove him from office is this question of whether or not trump had corrupt intent it is a fact that the 400000000 dollars u. S. Security aide to ukraine was frozen by Trumps Office and it is a fact established by the phone call between trump and the president of ukraine that trump did ask explicitly for investigations into joe biden however. The question is how are those 2 connected and trump has said he outright did not want a quid pro quo well this conversation in which he appears to prioritize these investigations over any other sort of u. S. Policy concerns toward ukraine does shed some light that perhaps trump was acting in a way that put his personal interests above those of the United States ok heidi lets think about fiona hill as well dr fiona hill who we heard and she was and weve got a little clip to listen to hear a very keen to point out the difference between russian interference in the election and now this perception of possible ukrainian interference will have a listen right now russias Security Services and their proxies have geared up to repeat their interference in the 2020 alexion we are running out of time to stop them in the course of this investigation i would ask that you please not from a politically driven fold so clearly a source of interests a good example there heidi of the whole tone of dr hills testimony from from start to finish. Thats right she was very polished her credentials are impeccable she herself is an immigrant she talked about her background in that being a reason why she appreciated her position as a Public Servant in the United States and she went on further calling that these bunked accusations that ukraine somehow had meddled in the 2016 u. S. President ial elections and that somehow democrats were involved she said that these allegations were in her words fiction and she had stern words of warning directed really at the republican members of this committee in essence saying russia is watching right now and things that are being said she says these fictions are harmful even if theyre deployed for purely domestic political purposes and it was notable you know the republicans they did still ask her about these debunked theories they try to establish them as fact in the way that they propose the questions but it wasnt as an aggressive of an effort as ive noticed with previous witnesses but dr hill went on further to talk about how she her professional assessment of exactly how this irregular channel of u. S. Policy toward ukraine came about and she talked about confronting the u. S. Ambassador to the e. U. Orden saleh the same man who had to haul truck from the restaurant in kiev and she said to some land that what he was doing was going to blow up that his he being tasked to act upon the president s political agenda here domestically was at odds with what hills directive was which which she had understood was official us Foreign Policy supported by Bipartisan Congress which was to support ukraine militarily in its war against russian incursion and to champion. Its a new president who was in her estimation is making great progress in combat in combat corruption in ukraine and she said that putting all of that at risk for the parag that is of this president to help his Reelection Campaign she didnt use those words but she said to put his political interests above the good of the above established us Foreign Policy she warned would blow up and she said that is why we find ourselves in this current moment yeah ok thanks on capitol hill there and now to our washington studios and Geoffrey Kemp a service who is director of Political Studies at miscount and center a center right think tank and thank you 1st of all for staying with us as that testimony is has gone on and on through the afternoon so dr fiona hills testimony i mean i was struck and this is sort of what we were talking to heidi about i was struck by how direct she was she basically said to the committee dont start with this ukraine into feed stuff because it didnt happen she was so so direct with the yes i know fiona hill to some extent shes a person of absolute integrity i have we have many mutual friends shes also a deep expert on russia and everything connected particularly with this information and there is a distinct chain of propagation between that the Russian Foreign intelligence and military Intelligence Services to outlets like sputnik to far right sources like in 4 wars and this makes its way all the way up the republican media food chain up to President Trump himself and this is deeply concerning because it does damage our interests in ukraine as well as other parts of the world. Just listening to the closing statements a moment ago and for i mean the 1st thing you notice is how much shorter the newness the republican was than. Adam schiff with his summing up but the republicans just seem to be making this is big picture as they possibly can this is just an attack on President Trump and these are attacks which actually started when he was still candidate trub am i right in saying there is a selective direction in the republican attack at the moment and then it just changes as the day goes. I believe its accurate to say that there is no real direction in the republican direction of attack as a republican myself i find this deeply disappointing and also shortsighted because the Republican Party is as much of a concern as the Democratic Party to forestall future corruption on the part of future democratic chief executives the Republican Party also has a specific problem in that it lost the majority of the house in 2018 because it lost the College Educated middle class and the College Etiquette educated middle class tends to think quite a lot of values like facts rational discussion forbearing the use of conspiracies and so i think the Republican Party did not do its long term interests any real service in its attempt to cast aspersions on the proceedings today do you think theres perhaps some almost comfort within the republicans who are thinking well the impeachment might well go ahead and probably will but we dont really have to worry because the president wont be removed we control the senate. I think the republican strategy has been to hold the line 100 percent and at this point we have no indication that there are any republicans in the house who will vote for impeachment that will certainly make it easier for the Senate Republicans to portray this as strictly a partisan exercise a partisan vendetta perhaps even what theyre calling a democratic crew to try to reverse the outcome of the 2016 election but these bigger concerns remain what is the Republican Party sacrificed through this approach what claims will they have to integrity that American Voters will respect what do you think all of this is doing to the country at the moment i know thats a very broad question but it is something which certainly President Trump likes to say and other Senior Republicans like to say that this is bad for the country its tearing them apart and its all a hoax eccentrics cetera et cetera what do you think it is doing having this in the public eye pretty much 247 now well i do think theres a certain degree of projection on the part of republicans in saying that these impeachment proceedings are leading the public to lose faith in government this is in large part a consequence of what the republicans themselves are doing to claim that these proceedings are all hearsay overlooks the fact that President Trump and his mr asian have obstructed the participation of high officials in any of these proceedings and one cannot help but think that during the watergate proceedings the obstruction of congress was one of the major points of impeachment that would have been brought against nixon so i think we are at and in a bad situation as a country i appreciated dr hills wish that we can return it to being a unified country but i think to do that Republican Party will have to reorient itself toward maintaining trust in people being open and accountable and so far weve seen no sign of that forthcoming from the Republican Party jeffrey have a sort of pleasure talking to you have really enjoyed that thank you for your time today. Thank you so as we say 5 days on the 5th public day of testimony we heard from that man on the screen there david holmes political counselor from the u. S. Embassy in kiev he worked closely with bill taylor who testified earlier in the week and also dr fiona hill is who we heard from former and russian advisor to the white house as we say very strong testimony she said directly to the members of the committee i would ask that you please not promote politically driven false false words but so clearly advance russian interests proceedings have come to an end now about 430 in the afternoon in washington d. C. More coverage and analysis of the impeachment inquiry a little later. Now while all that has been happening in israel the attorney general has indicted Prime MinisterBenjamin Netanyahu for corruption that india has been indicted for bribery fraud and breach of trust in connection with 3 separate cases israels longest serving leader could face up to 10 years in prison if convicted of bribery alone the attorney generals decision comes as israel faces a political standoff following 2 inconclusive general elections this year well the attorney general made the announcement a short time ago. Today i informed the representative of the Prime Minister mr Benjamin Netanyahu about my decision to try him under an inch klute 3 charges a day in which the attorney general decided to serve an indictment against a c. To try and minister the serious crimes of corrupt governance is a heavy and sad day for the israeli public and for me personally. So a bit of history here netanyahu has actually become the 1st israeli Prime Minister to be charged while in office the 1st. Case concerns allegations that he and his wife received gifts worth more than 250000 dollars the 2nd case accuses netanyahu of doing a deal with israels best selling daily newspaper for better coverage in return he said to have promised to slow the growth of a rival paper and the last case concerns undue favors to a leading Telecommunications Company and you know hes been charged with bribery as well as fraud and breach of trust in that case Prime Minister denies any wrongdoing and described the charges as an attempted coup he has also insisted he will not resign and is not legally obliged to do so. Tonight we are witnessing an attempted coup against the Prime Minister using false accusation and a systematically tainted and vice investigation for sure you notice that the decision of the attorney general is published today with unprecedented speed at the most critically sensitive time since the establishment of the state. More with harry force that now in west jerusalem harry he doesnt have to resign but jay will be difficult to stay as Prime Minister and be effective with this sort of thing going on. Well it is just an extraordinary situation all around i mean you say he doesnt have to resign well there are some who say that yes he does that there is a law that mandates ministers must stand down if they are indicted the question open and left open according to legal experts is whether that also includes the Prime Minister so there could well be a Supreme Court challenge to his legal right to stay in charge as well as that any member of the knesset the Israeli Parliament who is charged should have a right to appeal to the knesset within 30 days to seek immunity if that were voted through by the knesset but there isnt the requisite committee in place at the moment because were still in this transitional situation after a 2nd. Inconclusive election so theres a question is everything put on hold until he gets that right after another election potentially once as a government or do they try to arrange a temporary committee to allow that to happen but as you say there is a bigger question other than just the sheer legalities of it and thats the political realities of whether he will still have the support to remain in office now up until this point there has been relatively solid support within his own party the likud but today the very day that the indictments came down before they came down his prospective main rival get on czar said that if there were d a 3rd election he would want there to be a leadership election within likud before that to decide who would lead the party into the election next march which is going to happen if they dont resolve the situation in the knesset in the next 21 days the current crisis. And as well as that one of the local news channels here rang round senior figures asking for their reaction to what had just happened presumably seeking someone to support netanyahu and they were met with a resoundingly silence no one was willing to come on to the airways at least tonight to supporting ok and were. More at the political implications in a moment with our political analyst mon bashar harry thank you for now just one here a little bit more from Prime Minister netanyahu now he went on to say that authorities went after the truth they were just off to him because look you know arms will mimic the polluted investigation against me erode the public faith in the system they should worry every citizen we have to put an end to this the public has the right to clean investigation that seeks the truth and only the truth the only way to restore the publics faith in the system is to establish an outside independent committee that investigates the method puts an end to this it is about time to investigate the investigators. As promised moment to share with us from london time to investigate the investigate is that sounds. Similar to a certain leader in washington who is under a lot of other political pressure and self. Im going to come out of the similarities between whats going on in washington whats going on in jerusalem are just standing not only are we talking about those between 2 our allies 2 friends leaders political lovers even i would say enemies of the palestinians but clearly 2 countries that identify with it some with it with each other so much its over the last few decades as too liberal democracies and so on so forth where their leaders are basically accused of bribery or sort of quid pro quo as it were and that in both cases the 2 populist leaders are going after everyone for the accusing them of anything even resembles bribery whether it is the media or the Fake News Media is to call them whether it is that good judiciary whether it is the opposition or even now the deep state and clearly both are adamant that they are edison and that what is going on is that cool against them it is really astounding. Lets look at the wider political situation now one because this happens at the same time that israel continues to be unable to form any sort of. Government how does this effect what were probably going to have another election again. You know its not new to israel to change governments lets all remember that now its been Prime Minister for the last 10 years thats a decade of give you a similar example in the decade of the 1990 s. We had in the beginning of the ninetys we had shot me here then rabin then parece venn netanya oh then brock then sharon did you count how many what is 77 Prime Ministers within one decade now we had for the last decade we had Prime Minister nothing now and clearly if he goes as i expect he will he would leave a huge vacuum and already the system is paralyzed by his presence by his insistence on running already within likud as harriet was saying earlier there are voices that are coming out and that will come out i think more forcefully us time will prove that netanyahu no longer has a future political future of the country and hell probably end up in prison like his success like his predecessor you know with omar but be that as it may now we have 3 possibilities one that he does insist and that he could does support him and he does run and probably will use to that he does step aside and likud will run towards some sort of a National Unity government with the socalled center right blue and white party and that would be probably disasters for anything that theres a piece or Peace Process or whatever is reconsideration with the palestinians and 3rd that he would be that he was step aside there would be a 3rd elections there would be newly could leadership and were not exactly sure what would happen but because of not the neo likud might not fare as well as as it did before but regardless of what the scenario is election or otherwise that any other steps down otherwise i dont think. We should expect anytime soon anything that the resembles a peace Like Coalition in israel that wants to live in peace and security with an independent palestinian state is any of this good news no one from benny gantz from the blue and white party that you mentioned i would think under normal circumstances it should be but then he couldnt form a government either yes for the time being its not very good and he was pretty disingenious for someone who claims to be of in overtly clean and whatever it was disingenious today by saying that the indictment against the now where sad day for israel or maybe it is but certainly a happy day for hand well there are 2 possibilities now one is that as weve heard from get on side in other opposition leaders too and at the now it is very possible come out that somehow in the next 2 weeks likud pulls a self together thrice to 2 to limit the damage sidelines not the neo and enters into a National Unity government with guts it could be. Could Prime Minister for a while and then got guns being Prime Minister but certainly guns now has a Better Future either in a Coalition Government now or more more possible or possibly or more probably a coalition d government after the 3rd election thank you mon bashara a senior political analyst in the. Now the bolivian riot police of fired tear gas to break up a funeral procession that turned into manty government demonstration in the past as thousands of people were taking part in that procession it began in a loud one sided with a debate in congress over whether to hold new elections bolivias interim government is hoping elections will help defuse the street violence thats killed at least 32 people now since october an update from marianna sun chairs now in the past tell us more about this as we say a funeral procession that turns into a demonstration. Well come out the there were thousands and thousands of well even coming from a lot of the city that is where on tuesday there were clashes with police and 8 people. Were killed there police and the army actually. The thousands of people who are coming to the center of the past day were escorting this 8 coffins of these 8 men who died there and they were there were they wanted to reach the president ial palace something that they never can really do but they were at the perimeters of the president ial palace and they were about to hold a vigil with the 8 coffins and these thousands of people when the police started firing tear gas it was not a protest it was it was a was a vigil people were not with their sticks they were not throwing rocks they were not really a threat to the police however the police threw a very gas to to all these thousands of people who had to leave and run for safety fleeing the gas is the saddest part come out of this to see these vans with the 2 coffins on top trying to get out of this place another van with other 2 coffins being stuck because there was a police car is stopping stopping that van there were people trying to get other to carrying to other coffins out of the area they had to leave them on the ground because they had to flee the gases it was a really sad situation were waiting for a press conference at the president ial palace where the minister of defense hopefully will explain why the police opened fire with through tear gas to all these people there were many children there as well what they were trying to do these people was not only hold it really vigil but they were true. We teach their message across they want to hold somebody accountable responsible for the deaths of these 8 men they say they blame the interim president i knew is they want her resignation however they want somebody to be held to come accountable and theyre very angry at this supreme decree passed by the interim president saying that neither the police or the army will be held accountable in the effort to it bring peace to the country so there are many questions out there as to what will happen but these people of course they feel very vulnerable and they feel very angry at what this interim government is doing marianna son says what the update from the pov thank you we now look at colombia with thousands of protesters of marched against government plans there too and traduce pension and tax reforms workers unions and students gathered in the capital bogota in whats been described as the biggest demonstrations in recent years protests is also blamed president even decades government for the failure to prevent killings of human rights activists im going to go now to. P. F. C. Out of thunder a lot of noise behind you took us through it if you can. Well come on there are ongoing clashes between a number of the protesters and the police in riot gear as you can see behind me there is more police on this side theyve been dispersing all this area of downtown. While the great the majority of the protesters are a couple of blocks from here and Central Plaza will be about this have been an extremely peaceful day of demonstration as you were saying in your introduction one of the largest and most diverse in years here in bogota sorry theres a lot of tear gas. So this situation is a bit complicated for us you should be able to see some of the tear gas there and the antiriot police that continue to disperse the protesters as it was saying it was extremely extremely big extremely peaceful and we know that some of the protesters then were throwing rocks and bombs to to city hall and that star of. Created. The problems that were seeing now at the center if youre ok to keep going can you just tell me a little bit more about the protest movement itself just because you know everything we see in so many other latin american countries theres a lot of momentum there what does it feel like in colombia.
